"This is T'Challa, a king, a warrior, and an Avenger. But his kingdom - the hidden African land of Wakanda - requires more. Wakanda, a strange mix of science and savagery, past and future, demands that its ruler be more - and less - human. He must be a beast of prey - a Black Panther. And tonight the Black Panther is on the prowl!" -- amplified opening narration to the third story

I was unaware of the new Marvel Verse series - a pocket-sized or digest version that offers a sampling of stories for a particular superhero and/or -villain throughout their years in print - but the idea seems like a good one, especially if it was to attract younger readers or to provide a sort of entry level for those unfamiliar with the characters. The Black Panther edition assembles an updated 21-century retelling of his debut story (which was initially in the pages of The Fantastic Four during the 1960's), a two-part action-adventure from BP's own 1977-1979 series that also features the Avengers, a special appearance in an early 80's Iron Man special in which he is on equal footing with said title's actual star, and the finale was fairly recent issue in which sister Shuri assumes the mantle of Black Panther. It was not necessarily essential reading, but a nice mix of old and new moments.

I really enjoyed the old comic issues (my first ones!!) even if they are pretty different from modern ones. The story was great. the characters superheroes. It's a four stars read. The last story, Shuri #1, was INCREDIBLE. I definitely want to read that series.

Anyone can read these! It’s not just for young readers- I’m 31. I’ve seen all of the movies but I’m just now getting into the comic books and I love them- and each issue in the graphic novel is amazing! Also, yay for Shuri! I really think she should be the next black panther!!

I am bothered to find out that this was a black comic book written by a white dude. I feel like Stan Lee could’ve chosen a black author for this particular one- but can’t do anything about that now. At least Shuri is written by a black woman!!

A solid collection of action packed stories from a varied spread of time periods, though unfortunately these are quite dated now, so maybe not necessarily such a great introduction to the character for newcomers or returning readers. The addition of Shuri #1 as the final story is also a little baffling as that isn't really a T'Challa story - and this becomes even more annoying if you have also picked up the Marvel-Verse: Shuri book as that starts off with this reprint as well.

After reading and watching Ant-Man and The Wasp and Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania, I got Marvel high and wanted to read more of the Marvel-verse. Ok, so Marvel-Verse is about collected stories about each hero, heroes and even villains.

Interesting mix of Black Panther comics from different decades and series, but a little uneven. For fans only, ages 8-12 (is Rhodey reading an issue of Playboy in that one panel?!?!).

The old issues in the middle part of the book were super silly with the highlight being the red elephant - eagle hybrid made out of pure sound (what?).

These Marvel-Verse books are supposed to give new readers an intro for various characters, however this volume for Black Panther seemed rather mediocre to me. First we start with a Marvel Adventures Fantastic Four low-stakes story which felt like a bad Sunday-morning cartoon. Up next, two late 70s issues of Black Panther + an early 80s Iron Man Annual - although these showcase two of BP's biggest foes (Klaw and Killmonger), they felt kind of boring to read through. Rounding off the book is a modern 1st issues of Shuri where she's supposed to take on the Panther mantle. The only problem is that this doesn't actually happen in this issue, which makes reading this one kind of pointless.

I sincerely hope there are better Black Panther stories out there, because these aren't it.

Fun, some of the older comics are...eye opening about popular western views of Africa.
