Fandom: Harry Potter Relationships: Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter, Hermione Granger/Ron Weasley, Sirius Black/Remus Lupin, James Potter/Lily Evans Potter -------------------------------------------------- The plan was never to raise Sirius Black from the dead. Draco’s intentions were only ever to free him from the veil, most likely so that he could move on. It’s Harry’s actions as he entered the forest, ten years ago, which have afforded Black the prospect of life and are causing these accidents along the way…
A story about hope, courage and the act of changing state.
one of my favorite ship dynamics is when character A is deliberately repressing and misrepresenting every human emotion they've ever felt, and character B so maladjusted that they cannot even understand what a normal interaction would look like. let us all say hip hip hooray for things that are fucked up in real life but make delicious fucking food in fanfiction!
a pretty random thing to highlight, but something ao3 user newleaves really zeroed in on (and which i have never considered before) is the accents of it all? the books are, i think, pretty clear on the class divide btw someone like Draco Malfoy and Ron Weasley (let us ignore the implications of class divides still existing in a separatist society where people can do magic lmao), and the differences in how they subsequently speak. but idk if it ever occurred to me that Harry, having grown up in a middle-class household in Surrey, would have a really distinct accent as well, and a class background different to both Draco's and Ron's? now naturally, this is more thought than Evil Terf Lady probably put into all this, but these are the joys of being an adult reading fanfic about children's books lol. anyway, i was really chuffed every time Draco internally remarks on who says dinner and who says tea! the class of it all, babyyyy
also, something i really like about this fic (and even moreso the sequel) is the fact that some interactions are so fucking obscure? like, what even are these people talking about, what are these sudden tense silences in the middle of random conversations? at times it almost felt like flipping the channels and landing on a really engaging but contextually incomprehensible argument. and i think this just really fits with the character work and the themes of emotional vulnerability/transparency (or the perceived impossibility thereof), and it really rewards patience, especially in the sequel! like, these poor bozos don't understand themselves or each other enough to have a straightforward argument, let alone have one with *checks notes* harry's resurrected father! i love terrible communication i love sad bozos! hip hip hooray!!
