An Army vet wishes he were dead... A lonely vampyre wishes she were human... And a drug lord wishes he were immortal...
After a failed suicidal mission to destroy an opium kingpin’s yacht, Army vet, Brandt Dekker, is shipwrecked on a desolate island. He is initially happy to be alive -- until his haunting memories return. A stunning, yet awkward, girl named Lia has been caring for him, along with her mysterious and frightening father. They seem merely eccentric at first, until an astonishing truth surfaces: Lia has fangs. Real serpent-like fangs. She confesses to be a vampyre and yet promises no harm to Brandt.
Panicking, Brandt tries to escape the island, but the only possibility is an ancient derelict boat that has no motor or sails. There is nowhere on the small island to hide. He must come to grips with his new neighbors, and find a way to become allies if they are all to survive. Because, there are real monsters hunting Brandt. Monsters with guns and explosives rather than fangs or claws. Assassins who will find this island and kill anyone in their path to get to Brandt.
With help from Lia to repair the boat, Brandt pledges to set sail and lure the assassins away. But the repair takes days. And as each day passes, Brandt finds himself more and more enchanted by the sweet and gentle woman who claims to be a benevolent vampyre. He doesn't believe he deserves love and happiness, but could they possibly lie in this enchanting girl's embrace?
Her past has imprisoned her on the island, and his has imprisoned his soul, and both of their worst fears come back to threaten their newfound hope together. Brandt had been willing to sacrifice his life for a chance at redemption against his enemies, until he came to the island. Now there is more at stake than he is willing to sacrifice. In a battle to save their lives, Brandt will also fight for his soul against a terrifying enemy that is more powerful than he could have ever imagined.
I've been writing stories since I was 11 years old when I decided my cool Dungeons and Dragons character needed to be the subject of an epic novel. Never did get that one done, but kept the fire burning ever since. I became a visual artist, the last 20 years working as a computer animator. I make other writers and directors dreams come true, making their bad stories look good on screen. So, I wondered... could I do any better? I find that writing books is my passion, the thing I like to do even when all other choices are available. I only hope enough people find the stories worthwhile. I would love to keep doing it as a profession one day. Thanks for reading!
I have been very stubborn in my ways, and genres. I love historical and action novels and admittedly never read a vampire story. Yet, I finally decided to branch out and read this intriguing vampyre book. Of course, the excellent graphic cover helped convince me. And I am thoroughly amazed and so glad that I stepped out of my comfort zone! Within that great cover is an action-packed, tense, heart wrenching story about lost souls who encounter a very strange chance meeting then face plenty of danger. I adored Lia and fell in love with Brandt. I loved the intensity, the romance, and, of course, edge of your seat action. From the very start, the story draws you deeper and deeper until the very end. Schanz held nothing back with his imagination and his writing-style is superb. I cannot wait to read Vampyre’s Sunrise! Very highly recommended!
Recommended by a friend but was going to put it down and go to something else. Best decision Ive made continuing reading. Very Unique, strange take on Vampire Legion.
Mr. Schanz is new to me and I am so glad he was recommended to me. Mr. Schanz has away with his writing that kept me on the edge of my seat that Kept me glued to the book. A Vampyre’s Daughter is full of suspense, plenty of twists and turns, drug lords and romance. This read is definitely a must read and I highly recommend this read to anyone who enjoys a fantastic read.
Fascinating tale with an intriguing twist on vampirism. A story with vampyres and humans that involves danger, intrigue, suspense, murder, drug lords, and mercenaries. Also a story about love, loneliness, hardships, acceptance, hope, family and friends. Very well written with some very interesting characters and a very intriguing story line.
I really enjoyed reading this story. I enjoy vampire books in general but I like that this is original and twists the tale into something that entertains and surprises. The plotline grips from the beginning to the end and the action starts high, and then builds to an exciting and thrilling end game. The pace of the story is good and makes it both easy and interesting to read. I found Lia a bit of a mystery and although I found her sweet I initially found her difficult to warm to. As the book developed I started to appreciate her unique qualities, although she’s still sweet she has a core of steel and bravery. I love her humour and intelligence which comes through during the book. I also find her childlike appreciation of everything magical. Brant is a cynic with a wicked sense of humour and lots bubbling under the surface. He’s a fascinating character. I really love the way the author makes the setting feel so real and vivid. He has a way with descriptions that draw you further into the story, making it like entering another world without our world. Another thing I love about this book is the war surrounding what makes someone a monster, at what point in time does the bad or the bad deeds out way the good. The book makes you question and think about whether is it really the traditional monsters of fiction that are evil or if is evil a more human trait.
Jeff Schanz takes the vampire story and, with delicious twists make is a Vampyre story. Special ops Brandt meets the sweet, innocent Lia when he’s rescued by a mysterious bat like creature after he’s thrown from a boat that just blew up. He’s sure he hallucinated the whole thing, but reality comes up to bite him. (Sorry :) ). In the meantime, a century old enemy of Lia and her father’s rears his ugly head and chaos ensues. It’s an adrenaline rush, to put it mildly. Schanz’s gift of storytelling is wonderful and all wrapped and tied off with a blood red bow. Great read!
When I started this book, I kind of expected it to be your typical vampire genre seduction novel. I wasn't wrong, but it's a whole lot more than that and I was delighted to find a story that dealt with current social issues including drug cartels and PTSD. Lia is sweet, naive, fierce and absolutely adorable and Brandt's driven, broken intensity and moral crusade kept me riveted from the moment he appeared, clinging to a piece of a destroyed boat. And Mikhail is t he kind of ruthless, genuinely evil villain that every good crime hunter action story demands. If you're a fan of action novels, particularly those with a paranormal theme, this one is sure to tickle your fancy .

Brandt and Lia’s story is filled with suspense, romance and a fascinating twist on Vampirism . From the very beginning the not knowing what to expect was thrilling !! Brandt is Hero and a Purple Heart recipient , Lia the beautiful intelligent Vampire living on a secluded Island were brought together under an extremely dire situation, Lia saved Brandt’s life . Great story and very well written, loved it !!
This book wore me out! I was on edge, stressed for our hero and heroine and couldn’t put it down. It has vampires, a former soldier with PTSD and a death wish, an evil drug dealer who happens to be a bad vamp, explosions, gun fights, vampire fights, good versus evil and love. The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star is that it needs more editing.
One story involves two characters. They are modern characters with modern problems including falling in love. All the staples of a good story about modern society.
The second story involves vampires, murder, suspense and intrigue. All the staples of a good vampire story.
I’ve read a lot of vampire books and it’s rare too find someone who manages to put a new spin on it. This was different enough that it held my interest. I liked Brandt and Lia and wanted to keep reading to find out what was going to happen to them.
Wow a gripping story with a rollercoaster of emotions. It has great character build up and a good storyline . It keeps you tur ing the pages just to see what happens s next.
this was a really great book! one guy wants to be dead. she just wants to be human. after being ship wrecked he ends up on a island. only to find out that there are two vampires here. someone from her past comes back for her. read to find out what happens.
This is the first book I have read by this author. And I really enjoyed it. Had a slow build but a great ending. I hope there is a second book that continues the story.
Vampires?!? This book keeps you traped. Brandt is having a rough go and cant remember. Lia is hiding everything. Once everything changes, how will it end.
Dekker is reduced after blowing up a boat and wakes up in an old home with no electric or running water. The only person he's seen is a young woman and vague memories of a winged creatures with yellow eyes carrying him to shore. This book was great. Well written great characters lots of action a little romance and great story. Highly recommend.
After a very slow start, I really enjoyed this book. The story and characters were unique and not something I've read before which is very intriguing to me.
