Those that know me know that I am quite fond of Sherlock Holmes with a side order of weird.
"Sherlock Holmes: The Long Sleep" serves up an excellent portion of both.
John Watson meets up with an old army comrade at a funeral. The man, Jock Travers, a shadow of himself, tells Watson a tale of terror on the high seas. When Watson relates the story to Holmes, Holmes is keen to investigate and the scene is set for a horror-tinged tale of tomb robbing and its dire results.
William Meikle's Holmes and Watson are well drawn and the friendship is strong and balanced. Lestrade makes a couple of appearances and is a good, solid character. The original characters, even the minor ones, are well-rounded and feel very real.
An excellent novella that I highly recommend to all lovers of both Sherlock Holmes and weird fiction.

July 30, 2023This is another solid offering from William Meikle in his Weird Holmes world. This time, we follow Holmes and Watson between the foggy streets of London and mouldering country estates as they tease apart the real, the rumoured and the unexplained (some of it weirder than the rest). The events in The Long Sleep aren’t as inexplicable (within the world context) as they are in some of the other stories, which I appreciated.

Entertaining horror listening 🎶🔰
Another will written British 🏰 murder mystery haunting horror paranormal adventure thriller short story by William Meikle (The London Terrors book 3). Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson are invited by four business men to visit. Sherlock is asked to open a sarcophagus which after many attempts Sherlock manages to open and the business men get what they want. Then go will for some time, then Sherlock gets a summons from the four men. The mummy is killing each of the men in turn looking for what they took. I would recommend this three book series to fans of Sherlock Holmes and readers of fantasy haunting horror mystery novels 👍🔰. Enjoy the adventure of reading or listening to books 📚. 2022 😄👑👗😤

I thought this was quite good. I really enjoyed the story and the writing.

This is a novella–not terribly long, but just the right length for what it is. Watson’s voice is engaging and feels appropriate to the milieu. Holmes is his entertaining self, as are the various typical characters around them. My favorite parts are interactions between the famous duo and those they aim to help. The side characters have more depth than I tend to expect from a story of this length, that’s already focused heavily on specific characters. Lord Northwich’s manservant in particular intrigued me.
The sarcophagus holds some interesting mysteries, and for a while it’s hard to tell whether they’re supernatural or man-made (I won’t spoil the answer!). I really enjoyed watching Holmes work the mystery, and watching Watson try to keep up! This is a fun read, and I’ll have to check out some of Meikle’s other Holmes tales.
