Begin the sweeping, internationally bestselling tale readers are calling... "Uplifting four-color fantasy" ... "A MUST read for all fantasy lovers!"..."Impossible to put down!"... "Heartwarming and heartbreaking" ... "Fantastic in every way!" ... "Vibrant, exciting, memorable, and unpredictable!"

Magic is everywhere.

Its presence saturates the idyllic forests of Thornwood, where the elves' innate power allows them to commune with the land. It flows south, to the Grove, where enchanted waters bubble forth to provide healing and succor to those in need. To the east, ancient fragments still persist in the dark, deep gnomish tunnels of G'naath. In the very throat of the Maw, the dwarven halls of Belgorne grow more magnificent with every passing generation, for the blood of Silverstone kings lives on. The great Tower of Kehrlia stands as a beacon in the kingdom of Mor, tempting prospective Incantors into years of grueling trials under its ambitious master, Sartean D'Avers.

The ordinary magics of Tahr, however, cannot stand against what is to come.

At the muzzle of the Maw, the mighty volcano Fang stirs, smoke and ash belching from its mouth for the first time in millennia. Random fires ignite across Tahr with no apparent cause. Beneath it all, darker powers roil and rage as those long-forgotten plot their violent exodus from the eternal prison of Fury. As the very land of Tahr begins to quake and crumble, the Master of Kehrlia makes his play at the throne, putting into motion a scheme that would enslave humanity.

Witness the fall of kingdoms through the eyes of Tahr's would-be heroes: Lucan Thorne: a roguish young tavern hustler. Aria Evanti: a demure elven princess. Firstson J'arn Silverstone: stoic heir to the dwarven Sovereign. Shyla Greykin: the wide-eyed, irreverent gnome girl who dared venture Outside.

Drawn together by forces unseen, these extraordinary individuals find themselves swept into an epic quest that will ask a question old as time: how far into the abyss can one venture before redemption is forever out of reach?

So begin The Days of Ash and Fury.

Epic

Lots of action and twists and turns. Evil kings destroying their kingdoms and going to war with would be allies. While the real enemy comes out of Fury to destroy the world. Four plus one novice hero's need to learn how to use their powers before all is lost.
Note these books and on a near cliffhanger, but the next book is out.

Wonderful book

As the characters try to understand the what and why of their world tearing apart we get introduced to more characters who’s lands seem not to be disturbed by the damage. These people are very powerful and our friends needed to find them quickly to form the core group that fights the demons and damage happening to their respective countries.

This magnificent tome of a book or three books in fact, took me quite a while to read but it was a pleasure to read all the way. I was enthralled by the way these books where written right from the first, love the way we get the stories of all the people living in Thar, we get to meet the Humans of Mor, the Dwarves of Belgorne, the Gnomes of G'naath, the Elves of Thornwood, the Druids of the Grove and the Airies of Eyreloch who all have to send their representatives to battle the evil threatening all life on Thar. Ash is falling on the land and killing all it touches and the evil Fury is rising out of Fang the volcano, the demon has been called from the deep and now cannot be stopped!! However the five are called to battle this evil! In the meantime so many other evil things happen in the land of Thar but amidst all the evil we get to see the beauty of the elves and the airies, their love of nature and their bond with their animals and their own kin. Magic is foremost in the story both good and bad magic and courage and love abound! The characters are very well described and I particularly love the two lovely and courageous gnomes and shyla, she is the best character in my opinion together with her wolf! However after reading for so long and as I was approaching the end of the book thinking no way is the author going to be able to wind all the loose ends up, true enough our stories end on a cliffhanger and boy what a cliffhanger this is!! I cannot wait for the next three books in the series, a series which in my opinion could be rated with the best of the books in the Dragonlance series! I have to believe the author when he says he will not keep us hanging around as some other authors have done for our next set of books and I just hope that Sean Hinn can be as prolific as the Dragonlance authors where!! This is an epic fantasy of gigantic proportions which just has to be read, cannot rave enough about this set of books!

This book is amazing! If you like Gemmell or Feist then I would highly recommend this book. It has everything a fantasy book should have - elves, dwarves, gnomes the lot. I will give no spoilers but it really is amazing. Written by a storyteller not just an author. Read it!

Claims of a grand setting are disappointingly implemented, the characters are generally shallow fantasy caricatures, and the story feels like a railroaded D&D campaign. The book begins like many sweeping fantasy stories by name dropping as-yet-unexplained locations to try and demonstrate the breadth of the world. But then it quickly jumps into immediate action to try and engage the reader, before soft pedaling thru character viewpoint switching so it can try to flesh out the world description a little more. The author is wildly unable to write for female characters though, turning one of the main characters into nothing but a cut out, and another into a secondary character after the first handful of chapters. Though all the characters do still follow the classic roles made famous by R.A. Salvatore, lacking any significant depth, and end up in the adventuring party for poor/missing reasons. Almost immediately the adventuring party gets forced into an standard D&D open ended quest with a false sense of urgency.
If this were the setting for a D&D campaign, I'd play it in a second. But as a story, it's a discount version of an R.A. Salvatore book.

I couldn't put it down

This trilogy has all of the requirements of epic fantasy: well-developed characters, multiple storylines and perspectives, an appropriate fantasy world setting. Throw in a diverse group of adventurers of various races, a love story or two ... or three ... or more, some evil to overcome, mix well and see what happens! Sean Hinn seems to let his characters determine their own paths. I, for one, liked the result! My only regret is that I didn't know that there is another trilogy after this one, which he has not yet written. I hate to wait for release dates! If I had known, I would have read them all next year, which is when he is expecting to have them all completed. That one criticism was not enough to diminish the 5-star rating these books earned. If you like epic fantasy, these are for you. If you like reading the whole series at the same time, you might want to wait a bit longer.

A very enjoyable read with a wonderfully (and at times horrifically) unfolding story filled with moments of both true nobility and sheer depredation. The combination helps keep the book feeling fresh no matter how many pages in one is, which is no easy feat. Still, without giving anything away about the plot and development, what struck me most was how the characterizations of each race did not result in caricatures, but were used to develop the characters themselves. In other words, it avoids one of the Tolkien-style pitfalls that epic fantasy often encounters, wherein members of a race are primarily defined by that fact rather than as individuals (e.g. elves being aloof, gnomes being cowardly). Much to the contrary, here the different races each have characteristics that are shown to affect each character in very different ways, which in turn allows the characters to develop individual personalities - and it is those individual personalities that truly drive the book.

Outstanding saga

Do you like Tolkien? Jordan? Sanderson? Brooks? Goodkind? You might want to add Sean Gunn to the list. It's the perfect read for a long winter. It is really long but totally worth the time and effort! While the plot and worldbuilding are excellent, it is the characters I fell in love with...and in some cases, in hate with. Hinn took so much care with creating a diverse cast of characters, complete with language and dialect. His horrible places are downright scary and his wonderful places, like The The Grove, are beautiful. I could live in The Grove forever. While it is long in narrative in some places, it's so well written that you don't mind. Finally, it shines a light on our own beautiful, horrible world and the things that make people brave and heroic or cowardly and vile. I really loved this series. I groaned only a little when I realized there was more. Well, at least it's winter. Time to hunker down with Act 4.

It's been a while since I've read an epic tale of this calibre and I'm so glad I gave it a chance! The characters, the world building, the plot, the....just everything! Wow!!! There are some characters you can't help but adore as well as a couple you automatically loathe and can't wait to see if they're going to meet an untimely demise or if they're going to continue to cause trouble for our unlikely group of hero's in this epic tale. Huge thanks go to the discovery of the EFFers page on FB, without which I probably wouldn't have discovered the awesomeness that is Sean Hinn and this first part of the series!
Nothing else to say, except....read it people! Just read it, I guarantee you won't regret it!!! 😍

A lot of effort has gone into this work and this is reflected in the large number of interwoven story threads. The different races had their own voice, which is good and there are so many characters that one of them must appeal! The plot was clearly laid out and easy to follow. The characters were fairly complex.

For me there were too many points of view, which changed too frequently. I thought that the interpersonal relationships were not given sufficient depth and the central love triangle could have been more believable.

Overall, I feel a bit lukewarm. I’m not sure I’ll read the sequel.

Kudos and then some

I am not generally a huge fan of fantasy. However, if any other fantasy books are like these, then Sean Hinn has officially sold me on the genre as a whole. Also, what a modern day wordsmith Hinn is! The language along with the characters and plot are truly fantastic. Hinn caught my attention at the prologue and kept it throughout three books - still wanting more. I believe that’s impressive without a doubt. Hinn has earned himself a lifelong reader of any work he publishes. I can’t wait to see what Hinn has in store for the future.

The first three books

Fantastic series so far. I picked these up thinking I was getting a complete and finished trilogy and alas it was just the first three and now I have to wait for the next three. Broke my own rule about series which is to wait for the series in its entirety. GRRM taught me that lesson. I will read the next series because I really enjoyed the series. It is an excellent read for fantasy lovers and doesn't follow the trite fantasy format. I can highly recommend. Gbash

Still catching my breath

The story started a little slow for me, but it evolved quickly to a fast pace multi-character adventure. It is so Epic it’s hard to describe in few words, but I have to say I loved how everything evolved and turned into a breathtaking adventure! The world is so rich, so many deep characters, so many intricacies in the plot! I really loved it! Even the villains are amazing and even the hero’s have a darker or more human grey area side! Hats off for Sean Hinn and this fantasy masterpiece!

Wow, wow, wow!

This is a saga I wil read again n again. Deep, heart felt, passionate characters who are faced with exceptional situations and perils; some find the wherewithal to face themselves and meet the challenges set before them with courage and some fall deeper into depredation. The writing is smooth and there are so many heartwarming and heartbreaking moments. Loved it. Can't wait for the next enstallment. Sean Hin is one to watch. Bravo.

A lot of back and forth between characters and scenes. Hard to follow in parts and keeping the characters straight is harder than it should be. Im not sure Id read anymore of these books for my grandchildren.

You can tell that i really liked it because i read three volumes in a little over a week - which meant several late nights! As a bonafide Tolkien fan, there are not too many fantasy series that i smile at. But this is a good one! Worth the read but there’s more to wait for ! Hopefully not too long! Elves, wizards, gnomes, dwarves, evil powers ... you name it these books have it! A fun escape!

Amazing

This is a truly wonderful read. This is fantasy, but still with a touch of reality. The characters are truly alive, I want to throat punch at least 1, and I'm cheering on several others. Dialogue and disruptive text balanced very well throughout. One of the few digital books I've read that I want the hardcover copy, just great writing and awesome story.

What a true epic story!

What a true epic story! At first I didn't know what to expect and then the more I read, the more I got into the story. I can't wait to see how all this turns out for the hero's. Of you like epic fantasy, swords , magic and a Dragon, then pick up this series! You won't regret it.

Started, but did not finish

I just couldn't get past the first few pages. It didnt grab me. I reed 15-20 books per month, and they have to pull me in right off the bat or I move on. To be fair, this book has great reviews, so I will definitely try it again. I will update my review then.

20 Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, 21 equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. I can't wait for the next three!

Darn! I was really into this fantasy. Can't wait for the conclusion. Love the mixture of the different magic of gnomes, elves, wizards, dwarfs, and the evil dragon. Looking forward to reading about their arrival and adventure in another realm.

It pulls you in like quicksand

Slowly, and inexorably. Character development takes a little time to get into but you find yourself flipping to the next page faster each time, eyeing the percentage at the bottom of the screen, wondering if he/she/they will do that before the end. (Of course I won’t tell whether or not he/she/they do.)

Uplifting four color fantasy

An excellent read, combing the best elements of classic and high fantasy. The characters are memorable and heroic, and just plain good, a thing missing in these troubling times of the real world. This book allows a brief getaway to a world where heroes are heroic, villains are villainous and the story is mesmerizing.

Just not for me.

This is not a bad book, but having read part 1, it had not captured me interest/imagination.

Clearly a well conceived adventure/coming of age story; well written if a tad slow, not a great deal happens in the first part.

If you like slow paced, gentle fantasy, this could be the book/author for you.

This is an excellent book with strong character development and multiple complex plots with excellent twists. Great action with some comic relief. I would recommend this to Fantasy Adventure fans especially those who enjoy Lord of the Rings. Be warned however this is a page Turner and will keep you reading all night!

I enjoyed this first book in the fantasy series which has elves, dwarfs, gnomes, and humans trying to figure out what it creating so much chaos in their world as the volcano Fang prepares to fully erupt. This looks to be the beginnings of a heroic journey some of them will make in an effort to try and save their world. I look forward to seeing how it will all turn out.
