Those four words echo in Violet Spencer’s mind, tugging at her curiosity even as rage builds within her.
Arbon Academy was supposed to be a bright new start. An opportunity for greatness, and something an orphan girl could only dream of. For a while there, it seemed to be exactly that.
But Violet's bright future is suddenly looking dim. Arbon Academy and Prince Alex are nothing but a facade. A trap.
In a sinister world of ballgowns and backstabbing, of perfumes and politics, of indulgent parties and illegal sword fights, Violet now faces the biggest challenge of all. Recovering her shattered heart from the prince who crushed it.
Supported by her new friends, Violet wants to make Alex feel the pain of his betrayal. Prince Rafe wants nothing more than to help make that happen, but things aren't always so straightforward.
Don't break tradition. Don't let them know you know. Don't lose your heart... again.
These rules will keep Violet alive. But at what cost?

Rafe is clearly endgame and i'm triggered that she and him aren't totally a thing right now.
Jordan, go away.
also, i love Mattie and Nolan with all my heart, and if Mattie isn't ok then someone is going to die. those twins are the main reason i love this series. protect those babies!
Much much better than book one. This one held my interest way more. I barely skimmed - I read fast though. I've now gone from liking Rafe to loving him. I LOVE his alphaness, dominance, his power and command. I love it. I want more of it. And as much as I like Jordan, he can't compare to Rafe. There's just something special about Rafe. Kinda reminds me of Braxton who you all know I love. As for Violet, I liked her more in this book than the first one. I connected a bit more with her, though we still got a long way to go. I hate love-triangles though, so we'll see how the last book in the series will settled my finale rating of the series as a whole. I like that Alex is an enemy here, I truly didn't like him. And I have to mention that the little we got of Rafe's father, I liked as well.
Characters: The list is long so I've put it in a spoilers tag.
Quick basic facts: Genre: - (NA) Dark Dystopia Contemporary College Romance. Series: - Series, Book Two. Love triangle? - Yes, between Rafe and Jordan. Cheating? - No. HEA? - No. Favorite character? - Rafael ‘Rafe’ ‘Fallen Angel’. Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Yes. Would I recommend this book/series? - Sure, I think. Will I read this again in the future? - Don't think so. Rating - 3.5/3 stars.
This wasn't supposed to be this long, and this messy, but here goes nothing.
This was a disappointment. Surprisingly, it was because of the romance, most of it anyway.
First off, the authors mentioned when the first book was released that this series wouldn't end as a Reverse Harem. It just wasn't the way Violet rolls. Then, before this book was released while they still said no RH, they did mention this series could end up as MFM. So yeah, she can still end up with more than one guy. I guess it's the way Violet may roll after all lol (I know mfm is a subgenre on its own, but still).
Anyway, I was ok with that as long one of the guys was Rafe and the other wasn't Alex. After seeing the cover of book 3, I figured the other guy was Jordan. Again, I was ok with that. What I wasn't expecting was that I wouldn't like Violet romance with Jordan AT ALL.
▪ There was no build up, no hints like there was with Rafe, it literally came out of nowhere. One moment Vi was heartbroken because of that piece of shit Alex and decided to have some revenge sex with Rafe. Then a few minutes after they fcked all the ways to Sunday, Jordy showed up, kissed her, and the rest was history.
Jesus, even Vi's thoughts echoed my own. Like, How did she get in that situation? She and Jordy barely had any interaction before. Where the hell did that come from?
I was expecting a build up throughout the book, not something that came out in the very beginning.
▪ "VIOLET SPENCER AND JORDAN WHATEVER-HIS-LAST-NAME-IS HAVE NO CHEMISTRY WHATSOEVER!!!" Vi has more chemistry with Mattie & Nolan than she has with her second secret boyfriend.
Now her chemistry with Rafe is off the freaking charts, you can FEEL that from their first interaction in book 1. Man, the scene Rafe fingers her is ten thousand times hotter than Vi & Jordan's sex scene.
So yeah, Vi and Jordan's romance isn't doing it for me, yeah he is sweet, and I do love him, but he with Vi is a big NO for me right now. They make no sense. Look, if Vi had found out she was bi and started dating Mattie, I would buy that just fine, but I can't with Jordan.
I still believe Rafe alone is her endgame. There are these little hints. Violet, like me, can't see the guys sharing a girl long term, especially Rafe. Rafe & Jordan are best friends, but they still feel jealous of each other. Always leaving the room when the other is around Vi, especially Rafe SINCE JORDAN KEPT COCKBLOCKING THEM. MY BABIES CAN'T BE ALONE WITHOUT SOMEONE RUINING THEIR MOMENTS.
So, I couldn't enjoy this book not only because most of it was about this triangle (Vi's vag couldn't chill even in the serious moments), but also because Vi was selfish when it came to the guys, AND she was rather meek, no longer the strong girl she was in the first book. There's also the fact that we could've got so many answers if it wasn't for Jordan getting in the mix.
And I can't end this without saying how much I love Mattie & Nolan, my favorite bi twins. I also love King Felipe (HE, MATTIE AND RAFE BETTER BE FINE), and Rafe with his little siblings.
p.s. I just remembered Jordan's fiance died! THAT'S VERY CONVENIENT. SHIT!
p.p.s. The cover shows Rafe & Alex, but the Playboy Princes are Rafe & Jordan. Alex hardly appears in the book, not that I'm complaining.

As much i liked the first book ,this one was quite disappointment ! Violet disappointed me as well , she was a selfish brat and not good for any of the princes and honestly I don't know how she ended having them both falling for her ! I do read RH ,but here that's not the case ! Both Rafe and Jordy didn't wanted to share her ,she didn't seems to care about their feelings ! She stepped between two best friends and the one of them gonna end with broken heart, and broken friendship for sure , because she can't choose who to fuck ?!..See ,she is just that selfish ! Second i just didn't felt her connection with Jordan ,not as the chemistry she shared with Rafe ! She just started to fuck with him, because he is the crowned prince of her homeland ,he is nice to her ,and makes her feeling special, and in results is she thinks she is fuckin goddess ! I don't know how Tate and Jaymin gonna finish the series ,but i truly hope she end with Angel ,coz i am team Rafe ! The plot was so good, but in the end nothing truly happened in this book , the book was only about her and how she was struggling who to fuck ! The most awkward moment was when the Swish king decided that gonna step and help her, to not finish as queen on AustraliA' ,because see this is such a bad fate ! See the oprah girl have whole country to protect her ,just by fucking the prince ,no matter that she fuck his best friend too ! I don't know who's father gonna be ok with this ? Not to mention that he is risking a international scandal just for some girl he never saw ! See, she was that special " i just can't find the reason ! She is a total selfish hypocrite bitch and as much i loved the first book i hated this one ! I still hope for happy end and i hope Violet learns from her mistakes and became an better person , because i don't like the person she became !As mush i like strong independent and sexual active heroines ,Violet was a whore who cared only for herself ! And i truly missed the part when everyone fall in love with her ,and why !Like her friendship with Mattee ,like wtf ,they just become best friends for two days, and next i was listening Mattee to confess her love to Violet, and i missed the part why ,same with the princes ! Give me a reason why is she so special ,and everyone was ok to die for her ! I missed the memo !

RAFE! I need to start this review by taking a second to appreciate one of my new ultimate book gods. I loved every moment with him, and when he wasn’t there, I was scanning pages to find out when he’d be back. This hard on the outside, cold, obnoxious ass that loves his family, is kind, caring and just a huge softy - ugh. I could not get enough.
Playboy Princes (another awful title) is the second book of the Royals of Arbon Academy series, where orphan Violet Spencer has won a ballot to attend the prestigious school that educates the royal families.
This book was a bit of a wild ride from start to finish. It picks up right where the last one ended, and it doesn't stop moving until the very last page. New plot points and conflicts were being thrown in from every direction, and it made for a fun read.
I was a bit worried in the beginning. What I thought would be a pretty standard academy bully romance was shifting towards a strange combination of The Handmaid’s Tale and The Hunger Games. Still, despite that and the non-stop drama, the plot made sense.
Playboy Princes (*dry heaving*) ventures further into the love triangle territory, and although I know it’s not for everyone, I certainly didn’t mind it. Jordan and Rafe are both entirely and equally swoon worthy.
So, I flew through this book as fast as the first, and overall, I enjoyed it. I’m choosing not to look too closely at the plot and world-building - It takes place in a dystopian future that’s kind of lazy in its set-up. It’s easy to forget that it’s not just a contemporary book set in the present day, but then out of nowhere, the authors will drop a (most of the time) subtle reminder. I think the same book probably could have still been written without the added complication of a “new” world, and be just as enjoyable.
Well dang, that went out with a bang and crash. Literally and figuratively! Damn, I really wanted more! This is the way to keep people hooked and needing all the answers.
Before I get into this review too much…if this review is a little off kilter, it’s coz I’ve been crazy unwell. I kinda feel like I’m letting my girl down a bit here, but health is whopping my butt 😭. I’ve barely managed a couple minutes being out of bed (and I mean minutes – 5 has been the max so far). Just wanted to explain prior to everyone thinking I was possessed.
Anyways, If you enjoyed book one you are definitely going love book two, as the plot does some serious growth and development. So be prepared for anything…Coz oh boy…all the games that are being played. Try and wrap your heads around all those. 😱😆
As much as I really loved a lot about this book, I do find myself having some mixed emotions with it. Don’t get me wrong, absolutely loved the story and characters but I did honestly struggle a bit with the relationships forming between two of her friends. To be honest, I can’t tell if this is just a really intense love triangle (I use the word intense because she’s sleeping with both of them) or whether it’s going to be ménage. But there are serious emotions developing for both parties and herself. So I’m thinking maybe menage. I’ll get back to you guys on that. (ADDED: At this point, it’s unconfirmed how it’ll end up and that’s how the authors want it – they being secret squirrels). Unfortunately, for me, this style of relationship does kind of turn me off a bit…I’m a one soulmate kinda gurl and I don’t want anyone else to be in the picture….so I’m guessing you can understand where my mixed emotions would be coming from. So on that note…
Team Rafe all the way!! 😁 So much so at times I kinda felt like it was hard seeing her with anyone else but him… but then my heart would hurt because I love the other dude too! I REALLY do!! (Sorry can’t name him 😉 )…and I know my heart will break for his hurt, but as long as he gets his own girl, my heart will heal.
But all that aside, I really loved just letting this story take me on the wild ride it was. I didn’t let myself think too much, mainly coz it was impossible lol 😆, but I loved the friendship development, individually, and as a group. And the friendship with Mattie, seriously, everyone needs a girl like that in their corner!…but all these friendships, I loved the most. It was a special growth and to watch as Vi let her walls done and let them help more and more, did truly touch my heart.
And I loved how we finally got to be introduced to some extra royals. Although some you’ll love (can I hug Rafe’s parents, they’re awesome?!) the others you may just want to punch and do bodily harm. (Ahem king of Australasia anybody? No wonder Alex is psychotic didn’t have much hope with a father like that), and oh how crazy we truly see Alex in this book… for no better words…I’m going to quote Mattie.
“…you’re more screwed in the head than I gave you credit for.” Alex just shrugged like her scathing anger meant exactly nothing to him.
You can tell that so much thought went into the development of this story and it’s plot…And it shows in the writing. It’s incredibly captivating even though I still expected to see shapeshifters and the such, clearly I read a lot of fantasy stuff lol. 😂🙈
We have our suspicions confirmed and begin to learn that the Ballot may not have been all it has been cranked up to be (you knew that to be the case right?!). And escape really isn’t an option for Vi. Not that she wants that, because she refuses to lose the people she has finally found her place with.🥰 So it’s time for Vi to learn fast how to play the game too…because her life may just be on the line. 😫😭
While all the games that are being played. Alex’s true colours begin to show and things are about to get real rough for Vi. But she now has a team, that’s got her back and it’s one heck of a team. The secrets in the shadows are coming to light. Plans are being made. Countries allegiances are a wee bit shaky…and the Resistance is rising up – especially the extremists -wanting to crumble all that the Royals have created. To say the Monarchies are in for a change is putting it lightly.
All I can say though, least in all this craziness at least one of my detested characters pushed Vi too far. Violence showed her face. Don’t mess with our girl she can kick-butt just as much as the others. If not more so.
I have some theories about the Resistance, who recently started showing a very strong interest in Violet. And I can’t wait to see the next level of crazy that Jaymin and Tate unleash.
Thanks to the amazing Jaymin and Tate for the opportunity of reading this ARC in place for an honest review. As always it’s an absolute honour being apart of your team Jaymin. 💜
Hope you guys are all staying safe and staying mostly sane.
**I do feel a very strong need to point out that this story is for a mature audience! The sexual content is quite graphic imo. Swearing is strong including C word. And also some possibly triggering content - just wanted to be completely upfront with those who read my reviews trusting what I say.
That was a wild ride from start to finish. Don't let my 3 star rating scare you (it's probably closer to 3.5 anyways), I had a good time reading this.
This book picks up right where the last one ended and it doesn't stop moving until the very last page. New plot points and conflicts were being thrown in from every direction and it made for a wild, fun read. Even with the non-stop drama, this book never felt like it was lost. I always had a sense we were going somewhere and I did enjoy a lot of the choices that were made by the authors.
Its not a spoiler to say that Jordan becomes a love interest because it happens in like chapter 2. I know a lot of people didn't like this because of an expectation that this book would focus more on Rafe but because I wasn't too invested in that relationship at the end of the last book, I didn't mind this plot point and I actually ended up really liking the relationship dynamic. Maybe I'm one of the rare people that likes love triangles. What I did like about this one is that both legs felt mostly equal, even if I am pretty sure I know who she'll end up with. I do kind of want her to end up dating both of them because I do think they complement each other well and that would be a dynamic I would enjoy reading about but I don't really think that's going to happen.
I absolutely flew through this. It's probably one of the most plot-heavy, fast-paced romances I've read in a while. If you're looking for something like that, I would definitely recommend this. I gave it 3 stars because it isn't the most amazing thing I've read writing wise and I mostly enjoyed it because of how wild it was but I still would recommend it and I did have a good time reading it. It left me pretty excited to see what happens when book 3 comes out in August!!!
Great sequel to one of my favorite books of the year. I always knew prince Australiasia wasn't endgame so I'm not complaining, but Alex was vilified to such a comical degree in Playboy Princes that it sometimes felt like a farce. I just think the story could have benefited from a more morally ambiguous character than the cartoon villain he turned out to be. Less archetypical baddie - more entitled, conflicted guy under his father's thumb but with potential for redemption and growth would have felt better. Just my opinion.
The relationship with Rafe was delicious, even her prince on the side was delightful, though that particular hook up caught me by surprise. I wouldn't mind a menage HEA, because let's face it; poor Jordan doesn't stand a chance otherwise. Not sure it's a feasible solution, but here's to hope.
Anyway, loving the plot so far. Can't wait to listen to the audible once it's released and I hope the final novel won't be too far behind.
4.5 - rounded up to 5 despite my one complaint.

Again I find myself more interested in the action, betrayal and drama of the series than the love story. For me it doesn't feel like love. There is too much pain for me to enjoy it. A love triangle is definitely in the future, IMO. However, the hurt it is causing the men along the path to get there is selfish to me.
Still an asshole, Rafe. Granted is shows more kindness in this book, however as soon as you think he has seen the light he goes back to being an appendage head. Once we meet his family it really does not make sense the level of cruelty he shows Violet at times. And again considering her past the fact she puts up with it is weird. Like tattoos are hot but dayum I am not gonna let someone treat me like that just so I can lick them.
Love Jordan. He deserves an HEA and NOT have to share his true love. Just saying, I know its coming and not digging it.
Still action packed. Still not overly excited about the love story.
The first book isn't exactly a masterpiece, but this book was a real disappointment. The lack of plot advancement and world-building momentum from the first book was killed in the first half of the book. Instead, the first half of the book was stale, nothing interesting plot-wise, lacked plot advancement and was filled with sex scenes that added no value in replacement . You could've easily taken ALOT of scenes out from the first half, and added the second part of the book onto the first and had a complex story.
The new love triangle is unthreatening and unnecessary. If the original "threat" wasn't immediately marked off a traitor to never been explored again until necessary to the plot, plus given more development or reasons for this backstabbing, it could've raised the stakes with the mean boy and made a juicy story.
We all know who is end game adding a replacement nice guy, that's not a threat to the main couple. Was a major waste of time getting to know and killed off momentum from the first book. All the time we spent getting to know him we could've explored the villain and given reasons for his actions instead of being dismissed until need. Jordon should've just been kept as a friend and we wouldn't have lost anything story or plot-wise if his love scenes were taken out.
It would've made the story more complex and interesting if we explored the villain and mean boy more instead of getting a bunch of sex scenes. Towards the last couple, pages are when the book starts getting interesting again plot-wise sadly to just been ended on another cliffhanger.
This book was just a let down from the first, the first half of the book was boring and added nothing to the story. could've been taken out and nothing would've been missed. Bummer the book didn't start getting interesting till the end.
Despite this book having bad writing, I'm too invested in Violet not to abandon the series.
Playboy Princes is the second installment in the Royals of Arbon Academy series. Now while I desperately hope for all kinds of harem.. I will sadly accept what I can get. Even if it's not the dream harem team that I think of. I also really don't accept or welcome the creepiness of any particular romance between a certain someone and his family. Sorry, really not sorry, but I will never be apart of that 'a' team.
Other than that, the drama was okay but definitely not a thing. I am glad that the main character has become more of a bad ass bitch in her own way because people constantly underestimate her due to her being poor. Like that is even a good reason to underestimate her. If anything that should just be another edition, or two, to be afraid of her. She has probably seen shit that you haven't and survived. So never underestimate her. Always be afraid.
Or maybe that's just me. I will always be afraid. I do still enjoy the romance though. I still want more - like a lot more but I will accept what I got. I'm not sure what to expect but I want everyone in my little circle to be alive and okay. IF not, I will riot. SO hard.
Aside from the mild RH elements(book is MFM), this series is not normally something I read and certainly not something I’d enjoy. But I am so sucked in and invested, the world could light on fire around me and I'd keep reading because life cannot go on if I don't see how everything ends. My life force is running on the drama and stress these characters are putting me through! The one thing I didn't like however was how much I had to let the setting go again and not focus too hard on it. It's still not explained enough and I'm just letting it be this abstract thing outside the realm of my reading & understanding bubble so it doesn't take away from this obsession I'm feeling right now. Honestly, the whole ‘After’ world they are in, after some type of disaster just doesn't seem overly necessary as a setting yet again. Even the mysterious weather machines that can cause earthquakes is something I could reasonably believe is acclimated to our current reality. Would it really be surprising the richest families rule the world and have the most dangerous tech? It’s almost ridiculous not to believe it especially when many of the rich already do control the world, maybe just not as openly as they do here. I just don’t know why their world is the way it is 🤷🏼♀️ A little bit of context would go a long way.
***There’s really a lot that transpires in this book & I doubt I will be able to sum it up nicely or in a way that makes much sense so apologies for anyone reading this utter nonsense while I use this review as my book therapy and vent :P ***
To start, I was a little taken aback by the addition of Jordan as a relationship option available to Violet. Damned if he didn’t win me over in no time though. Jordan is the complete opposite to Rafe's darkness and so sweet it's hard to believe he's not putting on a ruse like Alex did. Though, after what happened it’s easy to see why anyone would be so skeptical of his good natured and honest to goodness kind spirit. On that note, the whole fake relationship thing Alex concocted still has me livid beyond understanding. In hindsight however it does finally make sense a little more now and answer a few questions I had. The aristocracy uses the schools lottery to bring in the DNA approved match for a royalty member who will then be used as ‘their’ baby machine. It’s disgusting because they literally allow low class citizens to win a place at the school all as a farce to manipulate them into fake relationships with Royalty, so these people can then have perfect little children. No mention the 'mothers' I'm sure are used, abused and hidden away like a dirty little secret after the fact, their babies ripped from their womb never to be seen again, raised by complete psychos. I'm just glad Violet caught on to their plans for her and is messing everything up. It also helps that Jordan and Rafe have decent parents who aren't the scum of the Earth. I'm on pins and needles hoping Rafe's father is OK after what happened. Now though, I'm done with Violet being nice. Claudette (sadly for us) got killed by someone from the Society but that still leaves Brandon and Alex for Violet to go mental on 😏. I cannot express how dark my thoughts are revolving around these two. They deserve a just and brutal takedown. I am beyond bloodthirsty and ready for Violet to get her much deserved revenge. It's clear there's a lot more story going on than we know about and I'm ready for more literal explosions. The baddies have Rafe and they obviously want Violet. It's about time she takes these people out once and for all and show them just how much of a trashy little orphan she is-and I mean that in the nicest and craziest 🤪 of ways 🔪🔪!!! Can't believe how much I love these books and I'm so not ready for it to end. I am ready however for Violet to rise herself up and rain hell down on them all. 😈😈
Okayyyyyy, I enjoyed this book, but had a few issues with it.
The two stars are just for the hot romances.
Update: Vi has just found out that perfect-prince-charming-Alex basically cheated on her, then found out that the real reason she ever won a place in this school was to marry Alex and give him a heir.
Book 2: after the massive bombshell dropped, I felt like this book would give me more. Nothing major happened and it feels like a weak bridge between two books, not as a single book. Also, after with all the drama, I was ready for Vi to focus on someone new. Not saying that all her love issues would be solved, but I was hoping that she would have a heart set on someone.
What I did not want is ANOTHER. FREAKING. LOVE. TRIANGLE.
Seriously, one in book 1, got solved, and now another in book 2????!!! Man, I feel bad for Rafe.
Let me start by saying I loved the first book. The writing, character building, and story were great. This book takes a huge turn by adding an additional love interest and lacks character development. Many questions raised in the first book were left unanswered. The h becomes flat and what I loved about her in the first book is missing completely in book two. The minor characters are great in this installment. Love Mattie.
Well, well, well. Slightly better than Princess Ballot, especially towards the end. I still have issues with the story, such as the world-building (which is nonexistent) and the internalized sexism, but I have to say it was a little better than the first installment.
I wasn't expecting the whole Jordan romance storyline, but I'm pleasantly surprised. When I was reading Princess Ballot the thought crossed my mind several times, if only because I couldn't stand Alex and Rafe, and the few interactions between Jordan and Violet were nice and there seemed to be some chemistry in there. Honestly, I was so pissed at the two initially love interests that I hopelessly hoped that Vi would end up with Jordan or Mattie, the only ones who are actually nice to her.
So yes, unlike apparently most of the people, I'm rooting for Jordan. I mean, just compare how they talk to Violet... Jordan is always like "I'm sorry. I shouldn’t have kissed you without your permission" and "Is this... okay? Did I totally misread the signals here?", making sure that their relationship is consensual at all times, while Rafe is constantly groping her beneath her skirt, pushing her hard against the walls (intimidatingly caging her) and saying "If I were to touch you down there right now, I bet you'd be all wet" or "I know you want me, too". Shut the fuck up, asshole, and stop manhandling her and assuming how she feels about you. Seriously, it baffles me how people actually like Rafe: he's a textbook case of a sexist abuser. True, he's improved somewhat since the first book (and particularly in the latter part of this book) and I'm surprised by how well (considering) he took the whole Violet-is-with-Jordan-too thing. But still, nothing can justify his initial and continuous assholeness towards Vi. Not even his hinted traumatizing past. And Violet will end up with him, that far is obvious, but it would be amazing if she ended up choosing Jordan or being with both of them.
The last few chapters are honestly the best ones of the book. There's some actual action and problems seem to arise, so I'm hyped for Poison Throne. Let's see if in the last book we learn something about how the new political system works instead of losing so much time witnessing Violet's sexual encounters.
Things are getting interesting. I really loved Violet in the first book she woman of power how Took charge of her own life and planned though things.
But in this book I though she became a bit dumb, I mean staring of the book when she decided to tell Alex about her knowing everything. Smart plan! She really didn’t think that one through and even acting some times so recklessly, all I wanted to to is scream think thing through. She know that her life is different now and she is in a cutthroat world now where all you did was save yourself but still she was so stupid sometimes.
Alex is definitely a mean and at times horrible person but I hope I am not wrong about him actually Liking her. I mean he said the needed them to still be together but the only pushed her a few times to be around him or interact with him. With was a bit suspicious, not that I want them to get back together now way but I hope he hasn’t been completely screwed up by his dad.
The only light in this book for me was the drama between her and the boy’s. They was so cute and steaming sometimes, really chemistry bled through the Pages. Loved every second of that.
I- Here’s the thing. I hate it, absolutely HATE IT when a character strings along someone- or even someones. It really just tears something up inside me,, And besides that, this book felt....in a way anticlimactic. Sure there was the minute development I wanted but....it was EXACTLY what I wanted. So yeah
When the first book came out I struggled describing to my friends what makes this series so awesome and addictive. But after reading the second book I know it. This is the better version of the Selection. All those times the Selection came close to a little more political background and intrige and a little more depth it rushed away from it. And that Game of Thrones ending that came out of nowhere in the Selection is happening much earlier here and is much better built up.
Playboy princes is the perfect mix of a lot of different things. It's a great Dystopia that never gets too depressive, even though the not so great sides of this society are mentioned and shown. It's a lovely Royal story, with the castles and the balls and the gossip and of course with all the arranged marriages and forbidden loves. And it's a really tasty romance, with handsome princes, backstabbing princes, betrayal and love.
What I really loved about this book is that it continued where the previous one stopped and that it threw us once more straight into the action. No endless summaries or reminders on what happened, just right back into the story. And the story of this installment was really amazing. Yes, there was a lot of relationship building and bonding, but there was also a lot of plot. We got so much new information without info dumps, we see a little more of the world and society and so many dark plots are revealed. I really can't wait to read more.
And then we have the characters. I have to admit, and I feel a little stupid for it, that in a way I also feel a little for Alex. For some reason I have in my head that he's under immense pressure and absolutely stressing out right now. Of course, no excuse for what did, but I hope there's more to him that what we've seen so far. I also love how different Jordan and Rafe are. And yet, they both are charming and interesting. And even though I didn't fall head over heals in love with them yet, I am excited to see who Violet will end up with!
Is it a reverse harem if there are only two men? I think that's more of a menage or triad, but what do I know? Either way, I do like Rafe and Jordan and their relationships with Violet. Seeing a softer side of Rafe was nice and made him more likeable. Jordan is always sweet and I love how he treats Violet like she's precious.
These are short reads but all the action tends to be at the end. I feel like not much happened in this book, mostly just Violet avoiding Alex and getting with Rafe and Jordan. I need some depth, more than just surface plot. With the way this ends, I'm really hoping for a fun story in the final book.
How do I find a sexy prince who wants to have his way with me, protect me like I’m glass but also respects me as an individual?! Damn these books!
The plot of this book was more fun and intense than the first one. We find out more about Alex’s diabolical plot but also who some of the other players are in the plan. We also get more Jordan and Rafe time; how could that be bad?!
The ending of this is so cliffhanger how could anyone have waited to start the next book??
I am absolutely enthralled by this futuristic world of royals and intrigue. There's so many levels to an incredible conspiracy and my mind is flooded with theories! I had to genuinely force myself to take breaks reading this so I could enjoy it longer, and still read it over one day. It's so difficult to put this book down!
I loved the new levels were got to see of our lead characters. Though Violet made, in my opinion, a few dumb choices at the beginning and towards the end, she's an amazing character to read about. I'd honestly love a prequel novel about her training because it sounds fiercely intense. I also think there's another layer to Alex that we haven't seen yet, and that intrigues me. I can't wait to see what the ending to this series will bring!
DNF 70%. I really liked the first one but this was disappointing.
PROS - there is a part that wants to know how Vi gets out of her relationship with Alex.
CONS - I liked Vi in the first book but I hated her in this. If a guy is hot and shows her any interest then she becomes a big pile of mush. She is pathetic around hot guys. At one point she said that she needed the orgasm that Rafe was about to give her. Jordan gave her one 1/2 hour earlier. I don’t think she “needed” one. - Jordan came out of no where and had no personality. She thought he was hot and talked sweet to her. Now she’s falling for Jordan while still having something with Rafe. This is not a reverse harem. This a girl just having sex with anyone that is hot. Her and Rafe had chemistry but Jordan kisses her out of no where and now she can’t stay away from him either. She is also being selfish because she is pitting best friends against each other. If the roles were reversed and the hero was doing this to the heroine then he would be extremely disliked and looked at as an asshole. I just want Rafe to ditch her and find someone else. - this story was way over the top. The first book is about surviving bullies. This book is about fighting countries and changing the world monarchs. - Vi becomes useless in this book. It seems like her Royal friends are always saving her. They’re putting their countries on the line for a girl they met a few months ago. - dragged. This book was about 75 pages longer than the previous book and you could tell. - I thought the fight club was supposed to be super secretive. She fights once and everyone knows that she is fighting. I hate it when authors ignore their own plot points.

Let me just start this off by saying that I will absolutely be reading the final book when it is released. I absolutely LOVED the 1st book. I was hooked and obsessed over the Playboy Princes release.
I feel like 2nd books in trilogies are probably the hardest to write. It’s a bridge book between the build up and conclusion and I’ve found myself not loving 2nd books as much. This one falls in that category. Don’t get me wrong - I was still into the book and finished it quickly because I wanted to know what was going to happen next. I wasn’t disengaged or disinterested which is a major positive.
While it was entertaining, I also found myself so confused. I don’t remember Jordan being so obsessed with Violet in the first book and it felt like he was plugged in randomly into the #2 love interest slot when Alex turned out to be a major douche. The majority of the characters are so well developed that the lesser developed Jordan being thrust into the main character spotlight felt awkward.
The reverse harem feel that the book turned on also was a bit of a turnoff. Violet went from wrestling with the morality issues of being attracted to 2 men in book 1 to openly kissing and groping 2 best friends in book 2 without a real understanding as to why she has changed her mindset.
Like I said, I’m still hanging in there with the series because of how much I loved book 1 and because I was still engaged throughout book 2. It’s a very unique series that still shows a lot of promise!
Violet, a one in 15 million lottery winner, is attending the elite Arbon Academy with the world’s most exclusive and powerful royals. It’s her chance at a new life and a new beginning, but just as she’s getting comfortable, she sees the royals for who they really are.
The Princess Ballot is all a ruse meant to strengthen royal DNA with commoner. As fewer royal babies are born each year, the Ballot ensnares girls like Violet to be matched with heirs. Girls become princesses and queens, impregnated, and the royal line is ensured.
Instead of the loving fairy tale she believed she had with gorgeous Crown Prince Alex, Violet realizes he was simply wooing her in order to snare her for her superior genes and turn her into his baby-making machine.
I am probably in the minority here, but I feel for Prince Alex. Violet was really falling in love with him, and if the plans had not been revealed, she would have willingly entered into her own happily ever after with him. I think Alex is controlled by his father and would be a great catch if not for that. So perhaps he’s not as evil as everyone believes?
But oh my gods, this ending! There are rebellions afoot that want to knock the monarchy down, and two of the Crown Princes are involved. If you enjoy reading about sex, espionage, eugenics, murder, and manipulation, then you’ll love this series!
I loved the first book, I think I've actually re read it now twice. All the characters are so likeable. With that said, I was so excited to read the second book and was a little disappointed from the start. Spoliers
I didn't like the love triangle with Jordan. It came out of nowhere. I'm not a fan of reverse haram books in general and this sure feels a bit like its moving there. I would have preferred for this book to continue the Rafe/Vi buildup because they are meant to be. Jordan should just be a close friend. I can't see Violet or book one being selfish enough to get between two best friends. It was all very weird and not in a good way. I honestly just didn't like any of the love scenes with Jordan and skipped over it as it felt cringey and misplaced. I also felt like Alex became one dimensional as a 'villian'. Would have liked to see his character have more depth and struggle with the situation he was in. He became almost campy in behavior.
Overall, I love the world and the characters so I enjoyed the read and am looking forward to the next book. I just really hope it's more of a book centered on Vi and Rafe and not this weird love triangle that came out of nowhere and still doesn't feel genuine.
