One of a Kind

Rate this book
MacKenzie Parker is no ordinary woman. She’s quirky, klutzy, and would much rather be home eating her weight in cheesy puffs than hob-knobbing it with the rich and almost famous. Out of her element and her mind most of the time, MacKenzie is shocked when a sexy stranger gives her the best kiss of her life just as the ball drops on New Year’s Eve. Sadly, she’ll never know who he is because he kissed her and bolted. It doesn’t matter that man is totally out of her league.

Sam Stone is no ordinary man. He’s an ex-marine and the head of his own security company. He’s big, strong, and definitely not looking to settle down. That is until he spots the peculiar redhead while working a job at an extravagant New Year’s Eve party. She’s a rose among thorns. A true beauty with crystal-blue eyes, shiny auburn locks, and freckles that run rampant across the bridge of her nose. Or maybe it’s her abundant curves or the fact that she’s nothing like the rich, pretentious jerks at this party that draws him to her. All he knows is watching her has been the highlight of his evening. Whoever she is, she’s one-of-a-kind, and a woman like her deserves to be kissed as the clock strikes midnight and Sam’s just the man to do it.

This book is intended for a mature audience––ages 18+. It is a stand-alone with a sexy hero and an HEA.

This story....sigh. It's a BBW romance, and those are my kryptonite. I can't NOT read them. There was a very jarring moment at the beginning that set me on edge. Unfortunately, since I'm the definition of stubborn AF, I kept reading hoping that it would get better. I am here to tell you I was wrong to hope.

Mackenzie, the heroine, got off on the wrong foot with me with some choice fat shaming of her New Year's Eve date, and that is NEVER cool, I don't care if it's the heroine. She's obsessed with her size, but of course all the guys want her. She manages to completely ignore the warning signs that someone is stalking her, and she thinks it's fine to walk through a darkened park in a horrible part of town daydreaming about the hero WITH HER HEADPHONES ON.

Sam, the hero, is not exempt from the dumbassery either, as he's an almost 40 year old man who is very good looking (at least that's what Mac kept saying) yet he acts as if he's never been around a woman in his life, except for sex. Never mind that his only living family is his mother and sister. He says some really stupid things to reinforce Mac's weight issues ("I want to get fat together?") and I was shocked at how ALL of the personal information that they got about each other, that could lead to love? Was shared with them by other characters. *shakes head* I really wanted to chuck my kindle, but frankly neither one of them are worth ruining my precious, precious kindle.

I have a big pet peeve when characters spend alot of time wondering why they're attracted to and/or falling for each other. If they don't know, chances are VERY good I don't either.

The setup for this story had promise but there's so much wrong happening here that I just can't recommend. Just pass.

Great Read!!

This is the first book I have read by Kayt Miller and I am officially hooked. This is the most fun I have had reading in quite some time. Sam and MacKenzie are interestiing, fascinating and multifaceted. I laughed, cried and hung on every written word. I could go into more detail about what great pacing and how well written, blah, blah, blah but, I have another of Ms. Miller's book downloaded so I must cut this love fest short.

This is the first book I've read by Kayt Miller and I think I would like to read another one.

I enjoyed reading the story from the first person POV and that it switched between Mac and Sam. I also liked that there wasn't a lot of overlap so we weren't reading the same parts of the story over again.

I liked both of the main characters at the beginning, but by the end I'm a little unsure how I feel about either of them oddly enough. The story has lots of ups and downs and they were almost a little too volatile/back and forth for my taste without learning about each other. However, there were some very sweet and spicy moments and there's a HEA at the end.

Overall, it was a good story that had a lot going on but still managed to be a good quick read.

I read the whole book, mostly because I'm a completist, but. What. Happened.

First of all, I'm not a fan of first person, much less alternating first person. And . . . this book was just so much not what I was expecting from the description or the good reviews. The characters are more caricatures, and the plot was just too over the top for my taste. Almost nothing about it was believable, and I'm capable of suspending my disbelief on industrial strength cables if I like the characters enough, but I just . . . couldn't.

Go figure--I liked this one, too! Although it's not about the Flynns, it does involve a timid girl and a gorgeous guy. Looks like Ms.Miller has found the apothecary's formula--you know, the one that can turn anything into gold?

And again, the story is pure gold. So is the enjoyment factor. I prescribe two of this author's books a day--they're that easy to take.

Romance and mystery

The relationship between Mackenzie and Sam at times did drive me a little crazy. He was quite overbearing at times and she lacked common sense about personal safety through most of the book. I still found it to be an interesting story with a mystery involving someone coming after Mackenzie.

A kiss at midnight

I f'ing loved this book. I couldn't put it down. Mac is carefree and fun loving meets the serious Sam. This was a great read, romance, comedy, misunderstanding, and a little mystery. ..it was a tad long, but definitely 4 stars.

Marvelously quirky

Read it. Just read it. Mac is a delight and Sam's bafoonery is a facepalm waiting to happen. The supporting characters are just as great as the main characters and i am greatly looking forward to reading about Mac's BFF and Sam's quirky sister!

Had to adjust the formatting constantly, which made it really annoying to read. Did not like the writing style, it was very messy to me. The characters were not my favourite. Couldn’t sit through it. DNF at 47%

Good read. Would have made it a 4 but something did not quite mesh. The plot of the story had some holes, overall liked it

Good idea. Could use better execution

Good concept with good characters but sometimes Sam was just too much and there were times in the book where paragraphs kept repeating.

One of a kind.

Liked it very much. Independent woman and smart. Very relatable. Is a girl who likes to eat good food, no matter where. And finds a guy who loves that.

Sam and Mac

These two were so funny. Leave it to
a man like Sam to put his foot on his mouth everyone he's near her.
Kayt Miller is easily becoming one of my favorite authors.
