Briar can’t hide the wreckage on her face, but it doesn’t matter. She’s only at the Fortress to deliver her Alpha’s message. That’s it. All she’s got to do is complete her task and get the hell out. But when Briar comes face to face with Matese “The Beast” Lawson, things change. She remembers him. He used to be part of her Yellowstone pack, but he left after a falling out with the Alpha. In her eyes, he’s a traitor. You didn’t walk away from pack; you just didn’t. The fact that he now dares to try and take her prisoner, declaring her as the enemy is outright galling.
Matese Lawson left the Yellowstone to get away from his pack’s callous Alpha and his brutal dictates. Hoping a change would heal his bloodthirsty wolf, Beast, Matese walked away from all he knew. In doing so, he thought he’d left Briar Nolay in his past, but when she shows up in his new pack’s territory, it feels like old ghosts are haunting him. He doesn’t trust her. He should kill her and be done with it, but Beast isn’t having it.
***
Briar could feel eyes on her and knew it was him. He was watching her. He was always watching her.
Angling her head, she silently cursed the battered side of her face. Her cheek was so puffed up that her eye was swollen completely shut. Even after a day and a half, it still felt like her heart was beating in the wounded side of her face rather than in her chest. The damage prevented her from being able to spot Matese, but she didn’t need to. She felt him there, just beyond the shadows. It was unnerving, mostly because it was the first time in months that her wolf roused from her depression and took notice of something. And wasn’t that just typical. Briar had done everything she could think of to cheer up her wolf and get her excited about life again, but after weeks of nothing, she’d given up hope. Honestly, she couldn’t blame her animal. Their life had gone from bad to worse in a rapid succession of horrifying events, and there were days when even Briar had difficulty mustering the will to drag herself out of bed to pretend she still cared. That little surplus of will she’d been hanging onto had slowly dwindled day by day, and now she and her wolf had a plan. They weren’t going to have to live like they had been much longer because they weren’t going to be alive at all.
Lifting a hand, Briar rubbed absently at where the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end. Matese! He had no right to be dredging up her old wants and torturing her wolf with his presence.
They’d been playing this game ever since she’d come to War God’s pack territory and their castle-like compound called the Fortress. Matese didn’t trust her. He thought she was there to bury a landmine and then scurry away before it detonated. He was wrong.
“Well, what are we going to do about her?”
She could hear the War Gods Beta, Tallius, talking to Reign. They were discussing her, and while she felt a slight hint of shame at eavesdropping, her need to know her fate overrode it.
Tallius’s response was immediate. “Send her back!”
Relief and disappointment flooded Briar in equal measure. Part of her had hoped these War Gods would be the ones to pull her out of the fire, but she hadn’t come expecting it.
Sighing in the hall, Briar couldn’t help the wave of helplessness that crashed over her. She’d be going back to Cray and his hideous Yellowstone pack. It was what she’d expected. The WG owed her nothing, but deep down she’d hoped there would have been a way out for her.
My pack territory is in Central Montana, between Stone Crow Estates and the North Fortress. Born and raised in an untamed location that bridges the gap between rolling prairies and majestic mountain peaks, I am born to a family that also bridges the gap between cultures. My father’s people boast a fiercely proud Scandinavian ancestry while my mother’s tribes descend from two savagely beautiful and unique nations (White Clay and Nakoda) that inspire my Skin Walker series.
I'm a huge fan of MMA, boxing, 30 Seconds to Mars, DMX, Nahko and Medicine for the People, and 21 Pilots (“…sometimes quiet is violent”). I also love to read because it encourages me to write. (I hate it when authors add that they love coffee and chocolate. Really? Who doesn't love coffee and chocolate?) Anyway, I love beer...kidding. I don't love beer but we are engaged in a very serious relationship. (Mom, please don't call me when you read this.)
Please leave feedback….well, only if it’s positive. “Keep in mind that I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my shit! (Erykah Badu lyrics!)

I don't know what it is about werewolf's and mates but damn I'm a sucker for them. I love the possessiveness and the fact it's so far off from my mundane life.
Since the good old days of Wattpad, I loved reading werewolf stories and I would read loads! And only recently I really felt like reading one again and I found this. This has everything a werewolf romance should have.
A possessive male - check! Chemistry like no other - check!
I really enjoyed reading this and it brought back great memories of reading werewolf novels when I was younger.
I thought the last book was my favorite, but I was wrong this one is. I was so caught up in the characters and the story that I was wrecked emotionally by the end. The HEA was a living, breathing entity that I just had to experience. This author has always been one of my favorites, but she has reached a new level in her writing with this book. I really hope that she gives us stories for Reign and the twins, I need to know if they find their ones. No matter what it is, I can’t wait to read the next book by this author.
I love all of the Spoils Of War books; but, I have to say that Matese has been my favorite thus far. Matese, with his "beastly attitude" is amazing. He fakes his way through life by copping a tough persona. He has never really controlled his wolf and is more like a Viking Berserker; until he meets back up with Briar from his old pack. To her, he acts like an ass, thinking her to be supportive of the Yellowstone Alpha. It takes him awhile to see through her mask. She acts tough when she is really just scared. He begins to see the real Briar who she is brave and selfless. She would call attention to herself taking the punishments for the weaker female wolves. Matese going crazy all over the Yellowstone pack was awesome. Seeing him become tender and loving with Briar was great to read. This series (like all of Susan Bliler's books) is AMAZING!!!!
I absolutely loved reading this one Matese/ Beast was an amazing character. I loved this shape shifter romance. I hope there will be more in this series.
The blurb got me on this one. I had to find out what happened to the women with her eye swelled shut. I wanted someone to avenge her. Or help her get revenge. This was a great book, kept me hoping for the heroine to find, if not love, at least peace in her life. Nobody should have to live under the thumb of a sadistic alpha. One thing I hoped would be in the epilogue was what happened to the other 20 women help virtually captive by the alpha.
I did not see the end of that fight coming! Wow! I love this series. It's different and better every time! Matese is a protector with an uncontrollable beast. He fears there is no one for him. When Briar shows up at the fortress beaten and torn up he thinks it's a trap. Briar is beaten and in pain. It was so good I could not put it down.
I love Susan Bliler's books! Haven't read a bad book of hers yet, but this one left me with questions which is why I didn't give 5 stars. What happened to Cray, the Yellowstone females, Reign and the twins, Rysik and Rylin?
Matese fought the attraction from page one doing everything to push her away and hurting her a lot in the process, so it’s a hardheaded, but he fights just as hard for her in the end.
Loved this book. An amazing story great action and wonderful love story. It was perfect. Just the right amount of drama and personal conflict. Hope there is more to this series.
Oh my goodness! This book is fantastic! Matese is a beast and Briar is just the right mate for him. The two of them are just perfect for each other. The plot is intense, action packed, and the characters are amazing. This is the third book in the series but can be read as a standalone novel. The reader will not be willing to put this novel down until The very end! Great 👍 read!
I can't express how much I loved Briar and Matese's story. It's been a while since I've been moved to tears but this story did it. I love the Skinkwalker series but this Spoils of War is next level awesome. I can't wait for Reign's book and really hope there will be more characters. I highly recommend this series!
This book was pitch perfect. I read it slowly, savoring every scene, over the span of 3 days. It flowed well and the characterization kept me invested from start to finish. I cared about the characters. The ending sequence was pretty spectacular as well. I love the authors work and her talent never disappoints. Highly recommend!
This was one if the best yet. I love Martese and Briar their story grabs your heart strings right from the beginning and doesn’t let go. You had my heart beating fast at the end.
Really loved all the War books, my favourite out of all her books and that's saying something because I loved all of Susan's books!! Can't wait for more of this series as I want to read about Reign and the twins just for starters ☺️
Love these characters! This series is quickly becoming a favorite and I did not think I could like anything more than Susan Bliler's Skinwalker series. Looking forward to the next one💕
Matese is so badass, it's like he is a one man army. He took on a whole pack and then some for Briar. She knew she loved him a long time and he was always half in love with her. I'm glad Matese took on his old pack, they were too cruel.
