If you've read Martinusen's "Winter Passing" and "Blue Night," you MUST cap it off with this satisfying wrap-up. If you haven't, I challenge you to spend some time in the mystery-wrapped stories of this wonderful writer.
Martinusen crafts a stand-alone story, but for those who've read the previous novels, there is much to find that is familiar and intriguing. This time around, we view WWII history through the eyes of Amanda, on assignment with a television show. She is not only fighting for her job, she's fighting to discover the truth of her family's heritage. What she finds will rock her world and challenge her beliefs.
I wish I had known this book was part of a series when I started it. It figures I would start with # 3. I really enjoyed this book. There was not a dull moment in it at all. The characters were well written and the subject matter kept me interested all the way through. I cried several times and really liked how the author made it all feel so real.
I was shopping at my local Christian bookstore when I came upon this author. I love WW2, historical fiction and decided to purchase this book, although it was older. I never dreamed that I would love this story like I did. This book was published in 2002. At that time, I was around 11 years old and read young adult at that time so I can't really recall what was popular in adult fiction. However, I have this feeling deep inside that the author was truly ahead of her time. I am going to try to write to her to seek re-publishing it! The story is told from two perspectives: one from Ms. Delsig, a Holocaust survivor and the other from journalist, Amanda Rivans. Ms. Delsig doesn't want to face the past but with the help of friends gradually releases what she has been holding back, while Amanda unravels her family's history to find dark secrets that destroys her identity. Each woman is taken on a journey of faith, forgiveness, and God's omnipresence in our lives.
This book got better with every page. The story was interesting and not too predictable so plenty of suspense until the very end. Looking forward to reading books 1 & 2 in the trilogy.
Can't have left too big an impression on me... I'm having troubles remembering what it was about! I managed to finish it quite quickly though, so it can't have been too bad ;)
