Jane Lindskold is the author of more than twenty published novels, including the eight volume Firekeeper Saga (beginning with Through Wolf’s Eyes), Child of a Rainless Year (a contemporary fantasy set in Las Vegas, New Mexico), and The Buried Pyramid (an archeological adventure fantasy set in 1880's Egypt).

Lindskold is also the author of the “Breaking the Wall” series, which begins with Thirteen Orphans, then continues in Nine Gates and Five Odd Honors. Her most recent series begins with Artemis Awakening, released in May of 2014. Lindskold has also had published over sixty short stories and numerous works of non-fiction, including a critical biography of Roger Zelazny, and articles on Yeats and Synge.

She has collaborated with several other SF/F writers, including Roger Zelazny, for whom, at his request, she posthumously finished his novels Donnerjack and Lord Demon. She has also collaborated with David Weber, writing several novellas and two YA novels set in his popular ”Honorverse.” She wrote the short story “Servant of Death” with Fred Saberhagen.

Charles de Lint, reviewing Changer, praised "Lindskold's ability to tell a fast-paced, contemporary story that still carries the weight and style of old mythological story cycles."[1] Terri Windling called Brother to Dragons, Companion to Owls "a complex, utterly original work of speculative fiction." DeLint has also stated that “Jane Lindskold is one of those hidden treasures of American letters; a true gem of a writer who simply gets better with each book.”

Lindskold was born in 1962 at the Columbia Hospital for Women, the first of four siblings and grew up in Washington, D.C. and Chesapeake Bay. Lindskold's father was head of the Land and Natural Resources Division, Western Division of the United States Justice Department and her mother was also an attorney. She studied at Fordham, where she received a Ph. D. in English, concentrating on Medieval, Renaissance, and Modern British Literature; she successfully defended her Ph.D. on her 26th birthday.

Lindskold lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico with her husband, archaeologist Jim Moore.

Oh my god. Can it be? After all of these years, is there another Firekeeper novel?!? I was so unbelievably excited to wake up one morning and learn about this! I didn’t even know it was coming out. Just boom! On my recommended reads list for the day. Holy cow! I’m so glad I didn’t miss out.
Wolf’s Search is the seventh novel in the Firekeeper Saga, and while I wasn’t expecting another novel in the series, I’m certainly not going to complain! It actually seems like the series will be going forward beyond this book as well, so I am extremely happy right now.
To give context to my excitement about this release: I’m fairly certain the last novel to release in this world was back in 2007. Think about that for a minute. I had gone through all of the stages of grief with this series, all the way to acceptance. And now there’s more!
Wolf’s Search, as the name may give away, follows Blind Seer on his quest to learn magic. Well, magic without the use of blood, that is. Many a fan has appreciated Blind Seer’s insistence on this particular matter, even if it may be common practice in the world these days.
You may have noticed that there are a lot of reviews talking about how this book is too short. It’s actually 300 pages long, but us fans have gotten quite spoiled with Jane Lindskold’s longer-form storytelling. That and this novel is only half the tale (no pun intended). If I ever had any doubt about the continuation of the series, it was gone by the end of this book.
I don’t honestly know when the next novel will be out, or what the title will be. But I do hope we can get some news soon. And that perhaps the gap will be just a touch smaller the next time around. I’m saying that mostly because I don’t want to lose this world again.

My Review: Fantastic. Thank you Jane Lindskold for making a dream come true with the continuation of this series.

This book is an amazing continuation of the Firekeeper Saga that I have been waiting years for. It takes Firekeeper & Blind Seer and puts them in another new situation that must adapt to them as much as they must adapt to it.

*****Theme Spoilers*****
This story has flavors reminiscent of both Piers Anthony's Xanth books, as well as Anne Bishop's Landscapes of Ephemera books. But these flavours only enhance the world Firekeeper inhabits without overshadowing what has come before.
*****Spoiler End*****

I first found "Through Wolf's Eyes" on a shelf in my local grocery store. There on the cover was a young woman and a large wolf, I was intrigued and bought the book. Never could I have imagined that it would lead me to one of the greatest book series of my life. I have read every book in the Firekeeper saga at least 5 times (with the exception of this one, as it has just come out) and while before I picked up this book, I was hoping for maybe a story that explored west past the iron mountains (maybe finding the Royal Song Birds and Game Animals), after having read this book once I am invested in these events and cannot wait for book 8: Wolf’s Soul.

I am a fan of the Firekeeper/Blind Seer series and this book lives up to my expectations. The characters are like old and new friends. The plot kept me turning pages. I am looking forward to the next book.

I like every one else was thrilled that Jane Lindskold returned to this world full of amazing characters.
While I will always love following Blind Seer and Firekeepers adventures, I do find this 7th installment to lack some of the richer story telling that the beginning of the series had.
Still loved it though and am hoping that going forward, Lindskold will be able to bring a little more depth to the story, and take her time with the descriptions & storyline that always painted such vivid dreams before my eyes.

I love this series, Firekeeper is always entertaining. Love how their journey is continuing through all the difficulties. Both Firekeeper and Blindseeker are so blunt and straight forward it is funny. The teacher when they meet him after speaking for a while they are like. This dude isn't open minded enough lets go with the noob. At least he knows he doesn't know squat.

This book

Unlike previous books in this series, this book really doesn't include much action and creeps along painfully slowly. Much of it may be groundwork for its successor but feels more like stretching the story out to force readers to buy additional books to get the story.

Why do we climb mountains? We find out.

I liked this book! Journeys into the adventures are such a good read regardless of the literal cliff hanger. When I sink my fingers into my beloved dogs fur I think how wonderful a spell to have home talk would release a torrent of " love you, let's go outside, ball, ducky, love,ball,ball,,ball,treat,love"...lol.

The storyline continues but this time with more focus on Blind Seer and his goals moving forward. Another culture/community is introduced. Much shorter than the others in this series but there seems to be a very direct end point as the series is almost wrapped up. Excited to start the last novel and see what the author has been working us toward!

3.5 idk maybe it's cause I had read the original books at a younger age or that the writing style has slightly changed or that the last book was so epic it doesn't quite hit the same. It's definitely a builder book. And it did have me laughing and I enjoyed the expansion of this amazing world.

Do you like wolves and magic?

This series is one I love to reread. It's got all of the best stuff: wolves, magic, snark, romance, and an interesting setting.

Not bad for half a book. I wish this author was better with characters. Hers are all so forgettable and interchangeable. Even the main ones don't feel real.

I read and loved the Firekeeper saga when it first came out, many years ago, so I was very excited to learn that there would be more books added to the series.

In preparation for this, I re-read the series (which is not necessary, but I wanted to), and was relieved to find that it was just as good as I remembered. Other series I loved have not aged so well.

This book continues the story with the characters we loved and also adds new and interesting characters to get to know. Blind Seer is now a primary POV character, which is particularly fun.

This book does not conclude Blind Seer's quest (there is *a* conclusion, just not the ultimate one), and ends with new questions, so my only complaint is that I don't have the next book available to read yet ;)

It was everything I wanted and expected from a Firekeeper book and I look forward to the next iteration!

Jane Lindskold’s new “Wolf’s Search” is a return to her long-running Firekeeper fantasy series about a girl raised as a wolf in a world with magical “gateways” between countries. Firekeeper and her wolf companion Blind Seer pass through a recently discovered gate that has been mysteriously sealed for centuries. They hope to find a land that uses magic and spell casting, but without the use of blood sorcery. As they put it:

“This hunting then, through unknown lands, after a quarry barely more than rumor, was oddly enough a familiar thing to both her and Blind Seer.”

The duo and their friends make an exciting and perilous journey across a broken land to rescue a group of sorcerers caught in a spell gone wrong. I especially liked the author’s supposition that in ancient times, humans and animals could communicate, a favorite fantasy theme.

I bought the book and got a signed copy from the author at a recent scifi convention. I think
"Wolf's Search" stands well on its own, and fans of “The Witcher” might also enjoy it.
In the end, Blind Seer still hasn’t achieved his deepest desire, but that just leaves us happily waiting for the sequel.

Wolf's Search is the long-awaited continuation of the Firekeeper/Blind Seer storyline. Blind Seer has decided to seek a mentor who can help his development as a spellcaster, and of course where Blind Seer goes, so does Firekeeper. Jane Lindskold has done a fine job maintaining a sense of continuity with the previous volumes while exploring new territory. There are some dangling threads which were introduced and left undeveloped, but it is to be expected when starting what is likely a new series. If you enjoyed the previous works, this one is highly recommended.

As a prior reviewer noted, the book is episodic rather than having a self-contained story arc; the plot has been set up in Wolf's Search but we'll have to wait until the next installment(s) for full satisfaction. Today's publishing environment has encouraged authors to pop out multiple 300-page books rather than tell a story in one volume. As a reader it can be frustrating, but authors cannot write fast enough to keep up with their avid readers anyway. Does this mean I won't buy the next volume so promptly? No, I fully expect to buy the next one as soon as I learn it's available.

Just don't pull a George R.R. Martin on us, Ms. Lindskold, please!

So delighted to be reading a new Firekeeper Saga novel after a twelve-year gap!! Really loved the first six books in this series!

Blind Seer and Firekeeper are on a quest to find a teacher so that Blind Seer can learn how to use his magic without blood-letting (the way wizards use magic in the Old and New Worlds), if possible.

Three others accompany Blind Seer & Firekeeper: Arasan/Meddler, Laria, and the Wise merlin Farborn. (The Wise, remember, are the intelligent beasts, not common animals. Blind Seer is a Wise wolf.)

A hidden gate is uncovered in the Nexus Islands area and leads to a new place where Blind Seer can begin his search. I especially enjoyed discovering the new land and its peoples.

The best part is that usually Firekeeper novels are huge. So, since author Jane Lindskold had completed the first half, she went ahead and published it as Wolf's Search. The second half, Wolf's Soul, is still being written so we still have that to look forward to!

Highly recommended for all Firekeeper fans and for readers who enjoy character-driven fantasy and learning new ways!

Blind Seer and Firekeeper go through the hidden gate they found in a remote island of the Nexus Islands, and find themselves at the far side of the world. There in the lands where long ago people who rejected blood magic exiled themselves to live their lives on their own terms, Blind Seer hopes to find someone who can teach him how to control the magic that has awakened in him.

It's been 12 years since the last book of this series was published in 2007, and I'd forgotten most of what transpired before, but Lindskold does a good job of reminding readers of past events. Regardless, it was easy to follow this story even with the gaps in my memory, and it captured my attention the way the previous books did long ago.

This is book 7, but unfortunately, I didn't think to check if I'd read book 6 until I'd gotten almost halfway through this, then realized that I'd only read up to book 5 (if my record keeping can be trusted). So now I've read this out of order, and will have to backtrack. But it's nice to be back in Firekeeper's world.

Another Great Firekeeper and Blind Seer Adventure!

Firekeeper, Blind Seer and two humans (or is it three?) and a Wise Merlin set off on a quest to find a way for Blind Seer to use his magic without using blood. Their adventure takes them to a new land, with new people and new challenges. I read this book straight through. I couldn't put it down.
A fantastic continuation of the story that can be enjoyed even if you've not read the previous stories.

This isn't a bad continuation of the series, it's maybe even better than Wolf's Blood, but it's also only half a book. That's incredibly disappointing after finally getting to see these characters again after all these years.

I'll be honest Jane lindskolds books are what made me want to read instead of video game all day. As for this book it is a wonderful addition to the series, a little slow at parts but in general a wonderful read.
