Ok let me just go ahead and recommend this series to everyone that reads fantasy . This isn't for the TBR list it's to be moved to the top and read and enjoyed from the first page to the last . Cully Mack has achieved something that is hard for some writers to do , this second book is just as good of not better than the first one .
The characters continue to grow and you the reader become even more vested in the story as it unfolds . They become friends that you cheer for and worry about decisions they make and don't make . The world building is excellent and the story moves along seamlessly and before you know it's past your bedtime but there is no way your not finishing the chapter .
All of this review books down to a few simple things . First off Cully Mack is an excellent story writer , second is you need these books in your life , third thing is by far the main reason why ....it's an excellent story from a new author and it is an amazing read that you don't want to miss .
P.s. Go buy this series sit back and enjoy it then go leave a review , all it takes is a few words , and it means a lot to the author .

A shellshocked Mirah flees as her latest nightmare comes to fruition. Nate’s soothing words that he would always be there to protect her now another painful memory to add to the overwhelming avalanche. She holds such power, a means to hold back the ravenous evil that threatens her world. Or is she a part of the very threat that she seeks to destroy, and she is unwittingly playing into its hands? Torn between protecting those she loves and fighting the monstrosity to come, she’s forced to move beyond her grief and gain a strength that speaks beyond that of an Elemental Wielder.
But she’s not the only one. Her brother Gabe must leave his childhood dreams behind and take on the role of a warrior, the one that’s to be their savior. His world is suddenly larger than his slaughtered clan and his sister. He’s the leader that must revenge all the clans that have suffered massacre and finally put an end to it ever happening again. He has already shown he possesses the power, though he’s still feeling every painful ounce of the last battle on his being. Still, he questions all of it every step of the way and doubts his abilities anew. A part of him longs to be that boy in the village before all of the bloodshed. Then he remembers family and friends brutally taken down in a moment, his own sister missing, and what she has suffered already. The boy inside of him vanishes and the Voice of Thunder emerges.
A brother and sister, two halves that together must keep the darkness from being victorious. It’s fated, written, or destiny. Perhaps. Or maybe their strength is created from something entirely different. It’s the kind forged when the flesh is ripped from one’s body, but with gritted teeth you force your body to fight through the pain. It’s the kind built when your heart is shattered, but through the tears you piece what’s left of it back together. It’s a strength that comes only through the toughest path, one of loss and suffering and with the knowledge the path must be crossed multiple times before the end.

Just like Book 1, this, too, was epic!

I'll try to give a review without spoilers.

The cover was attractive! - kudos to the person who made it!

Mirah, Gabe, Galia, Ammo, and all the other main characters until the end of Book 1 have changed a lot through Book 2, mostly because of the circumstances they had to face. They had become more mature, especially Mirah and Gabe. A major incident happens in the beginning that really disturbed the reader in me.

And then, proceeding from there, things got better. In fact, Mirah and Gabe started showing a lot of maturity, which suited them and the circumstances they were thrown into.

The plot got better and more complex, but I was able to follow it, even when I had to give a lot of gaps in between while reading. Cully Mack has a way with words - the story just burn into your memory for eternity. The descriptions were so vivid. The events and dialogue seemed very natural, too. The characters were all so relatable.

I don't think there's a thing about this book that I didn't like. More secrets were revealed, more mysteries unravelled... And then, another bomb falls on our heads towards the end, which will make us pick up Book 3 in a jiffy!

As for the grammar and spelling, the editing was done excellently.

I really enjoyed reading this book a lot! Those who read the first book, I think you should continue reading this second book!

After bugging the author to no end, I was given an arc copy. An excellent follow on from the first book. A story line with many twists and turns. An ending that was completely unexpected! Fantastic storyline. 1st dibbs on my new book boyfriend :')

Come on!

I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to sleep. I started this series yesterday and haven't gotten a darn thing done around the house. Now what? I'm on the edge wondering how soon until I find out what is happening... In other words, if you want a story with lots of action, twists, characters you will love/hate, and all the highs and lows, you should read these. But, be sure you don't have anything pressing to get done, once your in the story, it's very hard to put it down.

A consuming second installment

I did not want to put this book down. The story moves quickly and shocking things occur...not all good things, my poor reader heart. There were more editing errors this time around (mostly lots of extra questions marks which messed with the pace a bit). The story was worth it for me, still.

GENRE: YA Fantasy

MY RATING: 2.75/5
Characters: 3/5
Storyline: 2.5/5
Writing style/structure: 3/5
Overall enjoyment: 3/5

MY THOUGHTS
Unfortunately, the second book in this series was a bit of a letdown.

Things that didn’t work for me:
- I couldn’t stand Mirah. She acted childish and stubborn, just because she is meant to be ‘strong’.
- I had quite a few issues with the pacing throughout, which meant I wasn’t rushing back to read it.
1. Between the first book ending and this one starting, our two main characters get married. Given the build-up in their relationship, it was jarring that they were all of a sudden calling each other husband and wife
2. In the first part of the book, a pretty major character dies between one chapter finishing and another beginning. It was sudden, unexpected and unexplained. All of a sudden, everyone is grieving and yet the reader is like “umm but I just saw them one page ago”. I think that a chapter from their perspective would have sufficed, to explain what they were thinking and feeling. It would also allow the reader to grieve the loss of the character.
3. Events would happen back to back and then suddenly days or months would pass with nothing in between.
- The main storyline took a back seat in order for the many romances to be set up. As I stated in my review of the first book, this is more of a YA trait, which doesn’t match my reading taste at the moment.
- The first book did have punctuation issues, which I overlooked, but this one was more obvious. It would definitely benefit from being edited at least once more.

Things that did work for me:
- We get to know Ammo more, and his backstory. I freaking love him. He would be my favourite character, by far.
- The world building was written really well.
- The ending left off on a cliff-hanger, which has made me want to continue with this series.

I absolutely adored A Voice That Thunders - it really made me think of A Thousand Ships by Natalie Hayes, despite being very different in many ways. It was the perfect blend of slow build mythology crossed with historical fantasy. I... struggled more with A Scream That Shatters. I got off on the wrong foot when one main character suddenly dies between one chapter finishing and another beginning. It was sudden, unexpected and unexplained. For a major character to be killed off and the reader finds out about it with a single line essentially stating just that 'so and so is dead'. My brain did a full on stutter. Da what? I only saw them alive a page ago!

So maybe that just didn't set me up right for the book, but I struggled to engage with it after that. Whilst the world-building is still vibrant and interesting, the pacing seemed really, really slow. There's a lot of travelling, a lot of waiting, a lot of hiding and a handful of action scenes where people get captured, escape, only to get captured again. On top of that, there are so very many names. I was glad that I'd re-read A Voice That Thunders so recently as without the refresher of who was who I'd have stood exactly no chance at following what's going on between point of view changes. Even with that recent re-read, I found myself overwhelmed by the sheer number of characters I was trying to keep track of.

It's worth noting though that I seem to be the minority in this view. So it might just be me. But I didn't really get on with this. I might pick up the third in the series anyway as the first novel really did impress me, but we'll see.

This book was hard to finish.

The timing had a weird pace. Events would happen back to back and then suddenly days or months would pass with nothing in between. The pace just seemed slow. I still have so many questions like why Mirah can wield three elements and what it means for Gabe to be the Cloud Rider’s chosen and what Shemyaza’s purpose is. I debated on if I wanted to continue this series at all, but the ending was a big enough cliffhanger for me to want to continue.
