Every time I turn around, new opponents are looking to knock me down. No part of the magical community is safe. And now my enemies have left me with a horrible accusation hanging over my head, using so many tricks I can barely defend myself.

If I want to clear my name and keep my freedom, I have to turn to the guys who once made my life hell. They've changed their tune and made amends, but how far can I really count on them? Especially if they discover that my greatest foes are within their families.

I'm going to have to find out. The truth can't stay hidden forever. But no matter what the villains in the university and beyond it throw at me, I won't give in. I'm the last of the Bloodstones... and hanging onto that role may be the only way I can save everything that matters to me.

*Horrid Charms is the fourth book in a university-age paranormal academy series. Expect magical villainy, a tough heroine who bends to no one’s will, a dollop of steam, and a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance where there'll be no choosing required.*

After the cliffhanger of the third book, I knew that with Rory being framed for murder, this installment should be rather interesting. And it was. While Rory now has all of the other scions on her side, she's starting to realize that the people against her won't roll over quite as easily.

I liked that we got more of all of the scions working together in this one. While Malcolm is the last to come around, I am enjoying their journey more than with the other boys. I think it's the whole enemies to lovers thing. I just love that trope. Also, Malcolm seems to be the only boy with spunk and he's just interesting. But now that he's coming into the fold more I look forward to the group scenes. I do like their friendship and I think that it needs to be showcased more.

Still don't trust the rat and I also really don't trust Rory's mothers best friend. Something is majorly up with her but based on the way this book ended, I think we may get a lot more with her coming up.

Rory has been framed for murder and must figure out a way to prove her innocence. It is clear the current barony is behind the murder and charges, but Rory has a hard time figuring out who else might be in league with them. With the help of the other Scions, she prepares her case.

I'm still enjoying this series. I could do without the cheesy cliffhangers but I've started not paying much attention to them. I like how it seems that Rory has finally figured out that there are good and bad people in every society within her world, whether it be the Naries, the Fearmancers or even the Joymancers. I'm interested to see if she abandons her original plan to the Joymancers infiltrate the school. It seems like that is where she is headed, but she's stubbornly clung to the idea that Joymancers must be better people just because her adopted parents were good people. Now that all the Scions are starting to pay close attention to her values, it should be interesting to see which direction she leads them.

It looks like the next book in the series comes out later next month. I've got it on my TBR.

Royals of Villain Academy 4: Horrid Charms
by Eva Chase 4 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐

******** May Contain Some Spoilers ********

I will try my absolute best to keep spoilers to a minimum or completely out of my review. Sometimes it can be hard to do so.

I love this series! Eva has done a phenomenal job with this storyline and has kept it intriguing. Honestly I'm not sure how I feel about this book. Eva did her job amazingly with this book as she has with the others. This book is all about clearing Rory of murder charges. It's kinda cool that almost every fearmancer at the academy is scared of Rory now. I'm so ready for the older barons to get what's coming to them. Oh and that blacksuit, Lillian, that was Rory's mothers best friend, she needs to die! The relationship between Rory, Connor, and Jude get really steamy and the "L" word gets said. Things with Declan get alot more interesting. What's going on with Malcolm and Rory, well it's complicated. The ending is a cliffhanger, but I don't believe it's real, it's a trap!

•••••• I highly recommend this book/series! ••••••

Why we had to wait for eighteen to nineteen chapters before Rory spoke to Cressida, I don't know. Maybe because she's having too many menages a trois? This book didn't quite deliver for me: If she had spoken to her since the beginning, it all would have been solved. Or maybe Eva should have left some mystery to about who Rory crossed paths with while entering the dorm (cliffhanger in book 3). The only interesting thing is Malcolm... he's changed a lot. Other than that... the book was meh. I'm already four books in & I want to know if Malcolm will join the Quartet and make it a Quintet... so I'll read book five. Thank heavens I don't have to pay for it because that would have pissed me off... ROYALLY!

Oh, I didn't have a lot of sex in my late teens but I do know enough that sex with teenage boys is not that hot as in the books. Maybe they should be in their mid-twenties, which would make it more believable to me.

I STILL don't trust the mouse...

Holy moly!!!! Talk about an insane amount of exciting twists and turns. Rory thankfully gets closer to her fellow scions throughout all the craziness. This particular book picks right up from the last one with the black suits picking her up for alleged murder. Desperate to prove her innocence she and the guys try everything they can to get to the truth. But exactly what does get revealed from it? Twists and turns every which way, and one brave, strong, kind hearted girl in the middle. Brace yourselves though for there is a HUGE cliffhanger in the final chapter that I doubt anyone saw coming. Suffice to say I CAN'T WAIT for the follow up book to come out 😊😊😊😊.

Horrid Charms is book 4 in the Royals of Villain Academy serial series. This book started right where book 3 ended. The story keeps getting more exciting. The relationships are developing further and Rory is now dating 3 of the guys. I borrowed this audiobook from the library. The narration is good. I am starting book 5 now. 5 stars.

Book: Horrid Charms
Author: Eva Chase
Recommend: Yes
Spice: 🌶️
Age recommendation: 16-30+ Years

Plot:
A Young girl who was taken from her adoptive parents house, and placed into a magic university called bloodstone academy, has found that the 4 top royals 3 who want to date her and one who wants to break her.
In this book we find the main MC has gotten into a pickle with the law. They think she has killed a fellow student and are doing everything they can to pin the crime on her. So we follow her though her journey to discover who really did kill the girl. We also get to see how her relationship develops with the 4 boys. As we know Jude is all in, tells her he loves her. Declan is still a teachers aid so not a lot of progress there, just a few hidden spicy moments. Conner is starting to show his true feeling towards her and allows himself to fall in love. Then we have Malcom, who is now all in. He is doing what he can to help her and to win her over as well. She tells him that even if he dose win her over she will continue to be with the 3 other guys and he better be prepared to share her between them.

My feelings:

Oh how glad I ma we are now setting up the Harem, I mean when you start reading harems, we are reading for spicy chapters right?? Well I Mean I am.
So we are finally getting MFM. But not much more yet. Hopefully we will get some more in book 5.
The build up for the spicy chapters wasn’t that bad, it didnt feel like a long trip but it would have been better if it had been a tad faster. But being about a 6 hour read per book it dose not seem to bad.

I am starting to understand the other boys more now as well, we are getting some background on them all, and its very interesting.
I feel the most sorry for Malcom and Conner, there parents are horrible.
I do suspect that Rory parents might not have been both fearmancers, I think one of them might have been a joymancer and that they can feed from both fear and joy. But well see.

“He looked at me then, with an expression I couldn’t read but an intensity in his eyes that made my breath catch in my throat. “I don’t like you. I fucking adore you, Rory.”

This book felt a little boring. I don't know if it's because I have read 4 books in this series back to back but this one one felt slow and anticlimactic. And that's crazy because she was accused of murder. That's kind of a big deal and they were all acting like it wasn't. It was just a weird situation and I don't think the characters reacted like they should have.

The last book doesn't come out until October... The thing is, I read so, so many books that I sometimes forget about smaller series like this that I have started. I should have waited to pick this series up until it was finished because I will probably never pick up the last book. I will honestly probably forget all about this series by time October 23 comes around.

Thats not to say that I haven't enjoyed this series, because I really have. It was kind of a surprise to me but I really enjoyed them. It's been a long time since I have read physical copies of books so quickly. So that right there says something because I could not put them done. I do recommend. I just read so much that I forget things.

Story is a good one but Rory’s and the other scions sex-capades are truly too much. I don’t mind strong female characters with plenty of romantic sex scenes but these are eye rolling “yeah right” kinds of scenes. I actually skip those 3 way scenes, but it prevents my interest in reading the rest of the book. Rory is set up for a murder and is working on being found not guilty. Lillian Ravenguard or whatever her name is, is a black suit with ties to the barons who set her up. This book ends on big cliffhanger but I might just read reviews with spoilers to find out the conclusion to this saga. Haven’t decided. Too bad because the premise and plot are interesting. I downloaded something else to read while I decide. 😬😉

It was fun while it lasted. After reading book 1-3 and being conflicted after book 3, I couldn’t get into book 4 at all. There is no reason for the series to be as long as it is. As for the relationships between characters, I didn’t realize it was going to be a glacial burn. Rory has had little to no character development, when she’s the one who needs it the most. The plot isn’t interesting to me. I mean it was, but then I got lost somewhere along the way. It’s just so repetitive. I don’t know how many times scenes/sentences were repeated for the sake of adding filler in order to make it longer. Rory is incredibly stuck up. She never apologizes when she does anything wrong and expects everyone to bow down to her when they offend her. I’m just over it.

So I actually got about half way through this book and almost decided not to finish it. Again, the story has potential but the books just drag, repeating things we already know and creating plot devices for the sake of it. This book did frustrate me, and after reading some reviews, which did spoil the ending, I chose to finish the book. The ending felt rushed for me, I felt like that could have been dragged out, rather than the other stuff. The main saving grace for this book was the scene with Malcolm and Jude. I do like the story, but I just don't love the way it's delivered.

Also I don't trust the rat, I refuse to believe she's not up to some shady shit.

Book 4 is an improvement over the less exciting third installment of the series. Rory is feeling more confident about her own magical abilities, the boys are being being supportive (and hello smegsy times!) and even Malcom is coming around. Sure, she’s fighting a murder charge, but what college-aged woman isn’t these days?

Great cliffhanger! I cannot wait to start the next one.

Still having fun with this series, though this volume felt a little filler-ish. Rory experiences the fearmancer justice system after she was framed for murrrrder most foul! Harem is gelling, with some 'I love yous' and Malcolm has finally gotten his head out of his butt. Halfway mark, I'm still sticking with the ride.

This was more suspenseful than the earlier books of the series. Rory has been arrested for a murder that she didn’t commit, but thanks to illusion magic, even her own memories do not appear capable of acquitting her. Rory and the scions race against the clock to prove her innocence in order to prevent her from becoming a puppet for the barons. This also ends on a shocking revelation (that makes no sense to me how it could even be possible).

So, finally Rory’s relationship with the guys is progressing. I really like that her relationship with each of them is different and has advanced in a diferent paces. They did grovel and said sorry, now is time to move on.
Let’s talk about how somebody is out for blood, specially Rory’s. Things keep going wrong for her and she keeps getting in trouble when it’s not her fault. In this book loyalties are being tested and nobody is to be trusted.
Little by little she is figuring out her past and who can she trust. While at the same time trying to find out who wants her gone. It’s a lot!
I personally really like this plot. The barons are complicated, new characters messing things even more, lies, secrets… It’s great, I can’t wait to read the next one.

3.5 to 4 stars. The story continues... but at the same time I'm not really sure its moving in any one steady direction. Its almost like we have come this far only to constantly be side railed and never get to the problems that and points that presented in book one. I keep waiting for us to finally get back to those and we just seem to be moving further and further away. I'm not sure that if we continue this I'll be able to stick with this.

Rory starts knee deep in all kinds of hot garbage here in book 4. Now instead of being bullied by the scions she is being bullied and set up by the council.. Maybe? Probably.. Honestly its super unsettling not ever knowing who our real enemies are and never getting to the bottom of things. Though I have all kinds of suspicions we still don't have anything coming to light here. Its great though that our scions are really going to bat for us now.

I'm going to continue the series with the thought that I better start seeing a clear and direct path because I'm still hung up on the book one stuff.

3 stars.

Okay so maybe I'm still holding a bit of a grudge because of what happened between Malcolm and Rory in the last book. This book just felt kind of there to me. It wasn't particularly action packed and for all of the characterization that happened with the guys, and all the anxiety around the trial, this installment kind of had a filler chapter feel for me. I wanted something more from this even if I don't really know what. The cliffhanger at the end also wasn't as shocking as it should have been because I'd already read the description for a later book in the series, although that one is totally on me.

All of that said, this was still an entertaining read that I gobbled up in no time flat. I'm now kind of slightly worried considering this is like book 4 or so of 8 so there's still a ton more to come for Rory and her guys. I'm actually kind of hoping that we'll see Rory snap at some point and start to relish the fear. Maybe I'm even hoping for a bit of a villain origin story. Regardless, I trust this author to entertain and that's good enough for me.

Aaaaand another cliffhanger ..omg Eva Chase what are you doing to me ?!

Although, this time I can kinda see where the story is going, I think ... oh well, I'll find out eventually.

Rory and her fellow scions are drawing closer together but her, and therefore also their enemies draw closer as well, with more complicated schemes with more far-reaching consequences than before.

Rory still kicks ass and I love her spunk and the way she stands tall even when faced with overwhelming adversity.

Malcolm is such a complex personality and I'm glad that he too is coming more into his own and starts to make more decisions based on what he thinks then what his father thinks is a good course.

But yeah! the plot thickens again and I'm super curious which direction miss Chase is going to take the suspense part of the story in.

I do really hope that we will see more of all the scions banding together and getting to know each other's talents as scions more.

Great read!

We can see that Rory is growing throughout the books (as well as the other scions). With Declan giving her those reports about the joymancers and the fearmancers, she finally understands that everything isn't just black and white.
I cannot believe so many people are determined to put Rory down, but our girl still fights them hard.

I found myself wanting more of Malcolm. He's been a huge d*ck to Rory but he's groveling hard. Hopefully we'll have more of him in the next books.
Jude and Connor, so adorable! I love Jude, so far he's my favorite of the four guys. And Declan going lengths and lengths to help Rory even though he has a billion other things to think about... If that isn't love, I don't know what it is!

Again, I cannot wait to read the next book (especially with thay cliffhanger, even if we shouldn't trust what Lillian says...).

I have this interesting experience with Eva Chase's books. I find that I often have a hard time getting into the books later on in her series, despite liking the overall series, characters, etc. I can't quite put my finger on it. After I've read a book, I'm glad I've powered through, but I often have to put her books down multiple times before I finish them - they just don't fully hold my interest the whole time while reading them. This was one that took me awhile to get through. I'm still interested in Rory's story, but I'm finding her as a character less compelling as we go on. I want to see more depth and range from each of the characters, not just shock and disillusionment with a system you already thought was corrupt and broken.

I was very excited to start this book and my expectations were definetly met. This novel and series is sexy, magical, and full of suspense. I love how Eva has made the story unpredictable unlike others I have read by different authors. Rory may be a magical being, but she also comes face to face with real issues such as bullies and feelings for multiple people. She is having trouble choosing which boy she wants to be with. When I started the first book in this series, I kind of expected she would end up with one of the Scions, but I never expected that in the fourth book she would be sleeping with 3/4 of them. Rory shows us what the true meaning of friendship entails and how one small act of kindness can go a long way. I can't wait to read the next!
