If someone had told Avery that she’d be flying to a tiny island in the Caribbean to film a reality show masquerading as her identical twin sister, she would have thought they were crazy. And yet, she finds herself in a tin can of an airplane, about to land on Siren Island where a film crew waits to document her every move for a new reality love show – Swept Away.
Even though Avery has a long history of helping her sister out of trouble, this time really takes the cake. Avery promises herself that she’ll push herself outside her comfort zone as she’s spent the last several years focusing on her career and healing from a near-death accident. As much as self-reflection can be annoying, Avery admits she’s been letting fear take the reins for too long.
What she doesn’t expect is for Siren Island to live up to its name, nor to actually find love. When she meets the women of the Laughing Mermaid, Avery’s world tilts as everything she’s ever thought to be true of herself, and of the world, gets thrown out the window. As her beliefs get tried, the producer, Roman, can’t seem to stop baiting her as she does her very best to meet the challenges head-on and tries to form a connection with the bachelor, Beckett.
As her reality gets rocked, Avery scrambles to not let fear dictate her future, and to emerge from the depths a new woman – ready for love and a life of adventure.

A Good Chance By Tricia O’Malley ARC in exchange for honest review. This is the story of the journey of Avery’s healing and love story. It’s not a conventional story as her healing journey happens on dating reality show. It’s a very good story that develops the characters slowly enough that you get to really know them yet fast enough that you’re not bored either. Lots of action happening all the time. This story is cute and funny and shows us a bit of magic in our humble lives. We just have to look for it or listen. Definitely a book I’d recommend!
I am thoroughly enjoying this series by Tricia O'Malley. Ms. O'Malley brings Siren Island to life with each book. Avery was a charming heroine who had so much going for her once she got the opportunity to break out of her shell. Her character was so so clearly written that I felt her humor and anguish as the story unfolded. Sister love and support, friendship, mermaids and romance. An enjoyable read from first page to last.
The third book in the Siren Island Series finds us back on the island where a reality show is being filmed. Avery’s twin sister applied for a reality show and got accepted! Only problem is she’s now flaked out and made other plans, asking Avery once again to step in and bail her out. Avery is the serious sister, haunted by an accident that almost took her life, looking for love on a reality show is the last thing she wants or needs. Making a vow to try and break out of the cocoon she has been living in for years she packs her bags and gets on the plane.
Roman is producing yet another reality show, while he’s really good at them, he vows this is the last one. He’s a serious environmentalist, reality shows just pay the bills for his real work. Along comes Avery, she’s feisty and butting heads with him at every turn, spiking his curiosity, she’s not your typical reality contestant.
Beckett is the man of the hour, he’s the man on Swept Away. A surfer boy with a big personality Avery is not impressed with him at all, will she see beneath the surface to the man he truly is? Will Beckett keep her around when she’s made it pretty obvious she’s not interested in him?
I loved this book, Avery is wonderful, she’s feisty, she’s funny, poor thing she has no clue what she’s gotten into, thank goodness she makes friends with one of the other girls who can explain things to her.
Throw in a few mermaids and sirens and watch out.
Will Avery see through Beckett’s antics and find true love on Siren Island? Will Roman and Avery see each other for who they truly are and find their happily ever after? You’ll have to read the book to find out who falls in love with who!
This was a fun read. At first I didn’t like the female lead. She was neurotic and overly negative, but as I got to know her story, it was easy to start to empathize and root for her. I really liked the message that the book conveys about keeping an open mind and that very person is more than what is on the outside.
I really liked the personal interactions between the two main characters in this book, right up until close to the end. There's a scene where they are discussing Avery giving Beckett a chance since that was supposed to be why she came on the show. She made a statement that she wasn't "a liar or a sneak" when , in fact, she was both lying and being sneaky.about her real identity. Then at the very end, he comes back six weeks after walking away, declares his love, and they live happily ever after. They still barely knew each other, it made the whole ending seem like a throw away.
After reading the other books in this series, I was eagerly waiting for this one to come out. I LOVE this book.
Avery’s twin sister signs up to participate in a bachelor-type competition on Siren Island. As usual, Avery ends up bailing her sister out of trouble when her sister is unable to participate in the event.
While taking her sister’s place in the competition, making friends (and frenemies), she shows who she is: not just a girl who has suffered serious trauma and betrayal, but a strong woman who handles crises, perseveres over her fear, and discovers the strong person she really is.
There is, of course, love. And there are, of course, sirens. It wouldn’t be Siren Island without them.
This book touched my heart, not just because of the love story, but because of Avery’s triumph over her fears, and the joy she discovered in making new friends, her love and caring for others, and the love she finds with…..
Well, to find that out, you’ll have to read the book.
Believe me. It’s worth the read, and it was worth the tears I shed over it. (Good tears, all good!).
The highest praise I have for a book is to say that I look forward to reading it again. I absolutely cannot wait until I read this book again, along with the other two in the Siren Island Series.
Social media influencers beware, this book of the series is slightly denigrating toward your career choice. The plot of this book is a good and fun shake up from the last two in the series. I mostly enjoyed the pragmatic lead, Avery, and the reality-show setting. I relate to Avery as an engineer who once scoffed at the thought of women making money off of social media and beauty, but have since come around to being non-judgemental (after largely being proven wrong about the box we put anyone in). That said, I don't know that the book fully completes that redemption arc, as it still fully indulges in the "You're better than the other women" type of compliment. The main issue bothering me though started with a lack of stated diversity. While some characters remain nondescript, the book consistently celebrates the main character's "pretty white skin." I understand that's been the common representation of mermaids, but it doesn't have to be and shouldn't continue that way in an otherwise progressive book. I know the author likes to plug the "reef-safe sunscreen" (which is great!) and Black & Brown mermaids can use that too, while also glowing, glinting, swimming, singing, and being beautiful. I fear the series is solidfying as a "white jaded damsel needing a white man to heal her" type story. I'll reserve final thoughts on that until I finish the series.
I was excited to have been chosen to read an ARC for the first time and this review is my own opinion. When I was done I read it again to make sure that I had carefully proofread and still only found one small error that I have reported to the author.
I have read most of Tricia O'Malley's books and always enjoy them. This is the third book in the Siren Island series and it doesn't disappoint. I couldn't put it down! I wondered if I would enjoy the premise of the book, based on a reality bachelor-type show - which is not my thing at all! However, O'Malley's characters caught my attention and never let go.
Avery was a scared, anxious woman who has been hiding in her job. She pushes herself to face her fears, discover her strengths and heal with the magic of mermaids. She learns she is brave, competent and strong enough to take a chance at love. I love the strong women O'Malley uses as characters and the way they encourage and enable other women to find their strengths. Something we all should do.
I strongly recommend this book. You will enjoy the characters, laugh out loud, wring your hands with worry and cheer on your favorite characters. I want to visit Siren Island.
If you are new to the Siren Island series, each of the books is their own story with new main characters, but center around the same destination villa called Laughing Mermaid, and therefore have some repeating (and much-loved) characters making an appearance.
While they are are a little cheesy and slightly predictable, I love mermaids and imagining them in real life. Even more so, in this full season of life, I love an easy, fun read so my brain can have an escape for a little bit. This series is providing precisely that at the moment!
This book was a really fun twist from the typical vacationing beauty who finds love. Instead, a reluctant young women ends up entering a reality show competition to bail out her sister. It is so far out of her comfort zone that its comical to see how she responds to the other participants, but endearing to see how those relationships blossom. I also loved how forward many of the characters were with how they were feeling. It's something I admire in people and struggle to do myself.
Overall, this was a fun, feel-good read with such a happy ending. So grateful I stumbled upon this series.
Avery’s sister Ruby was picked to go on a reality TV show but she wants to travel the world with her current boyfriend, so Ruby talks Avery into taking her place since they are identical twins. Ruby also thinks this will help Avery get out of her comfort zone and learn to live again after her terrible accident. Avery finds herself on a tiny plane going to an island in the Caribbean. Once there she meets Roman who is the producer of the show. They have trouble from the get go, but they also have chemistry. As Avery tries to complete the challenges and get a connection with the bachelor, Beckett, she finds she has more feelings for Roman. This is a very good, fast paced book. I really liked Avery as she gains back her courage and confidence she lost after her accident. I really liked Roman as he tries hard to navigate his feelings for Avery as well as produce the show. Sheryl Lynn, Avery’s friend, co-contestant and roommate on the show is a wonderful secondary character. She is supportive, kind, and caring in her friendship with Avery. I would definitely read more books by this author and this series.
A Good Chance: Third in the series for "The Siren Island" books was all I could wish for! I was able to Beta Review this story and loved the main character Avery from the start! Not your normal situation being based on a Reality Dating Show.... I was still able to identify with our girl and see myself in parts of her personality. The entire series is based upon healing, exploration, and growing as a person. You can relate to the characters and come out in the end cheering them on and feeling better yourself! The touch of magik, and the message of love and family will move you. Let's face it... who hasn't dreamed of releasing their inner Mermaid! If you haven't.... you have to read the earlier books.... each do well standing alone, but are still woven together with a light touch to keep the continuity. Can't wait to read the next one.... and I've already re-read the first two!
Irvine and her daughters Jolie and Mira of the Laughing Mermaid B&B have helped two people find love, again. Avery is coerced by her identical twin into taking her place on a really tv show on Siren Island. It is particularly difficult for her because a near death experience has caused her to become introverted and unwilling to take chances. Roman is producing the tv show because the money allows him to film documentaries about conservation of land and animals. The two are very different but as Avery breaks out of her shell with the help of some other contestants she wants to take a chance on Roman. Roman feels something for Avery her has never felt before. But she is supposed to be attracted to the bachelor and it is a conflict of interest for them to become involved. I found this to be very intertaining. I wanted Avery and Roman to fall in love. The other characters were well written.I learned just enough about them to make them interesting. I liked the way Avery took charge in every situation. I recommend this author.
I think this is the most FUN book Tricia has written. Who doesn’t like watching the Bachelor TV show? Well Avery has a twin sister named Ruby and we all know what twins get up to. Ruby applied to be on the show and was accepted but forgot she booked a round the world trip with her boyfriend. The show Ruby signed up for is called Swept Away. Avery was in a very bad accident and has basically done nothing since healing but work and stay home. I loved the behind the scene info on this TV show. Guess what island the show decided to film on—Siren Island—and guess who the guest were!! Yep, Irma and her daughters Mirra and Jolie. I love the interaction with some of the girls, how they handle things, how the bachelor handles what happens on the show. I think I will look at our TV show a little differently now. So much good stuff happens in this book and I really think this is the best in the series. I highly recommend this book.
By the third book in a series, based around the same island and same things, I'd usually be bored, and things would get predictable. I can honestly say, I'm loving this book as much as I loved the first one. The story is magical. And the descriptions of the island, the water, and everything around makes the story and book come to life. I could smell the salt air and see the crystal clear water. I absolutely adored Avery. I loved getting to know her. I was super nervous that this was a TV show style book, but the author did a beautiful job in combining the magic of the Sirens and island to the drama of a reality show! I honestly loved all the main characters, especially Cherylynn. And beckett was adorable once he dropped his TV persona. Im so glad that Avery ended up with Roman. They were so cute together. And beckett and cherylnn are perfect too! I love how supportive they all were to each other.
4.5\5 Stars rounded up! I Wanna Marry Ryan Banks meets Aquamarine in book 3 of O'Malley's Siren Island series. Ruby signed up for a reality dating show on Siren Island, but plans with her boyfriend interfere. So, her twin sister Avery goes in her place. On the island, Avery does fall in love, but not with the bachelor on the show. As she works through her fears and troubled past, she learns about the mermaids around the island. At the same time, producer Roman takes a special interest in Avery and ultimately discovers the deception about who she is. My only complaint about this book is that Irma, Jolie, and Mirra aren't in much of it. They are mentors to the contestants but we only see them during the big, defining moments and reveals of the two main characters. The book isn't any less magickal, however, as Roman and Avery dive into a world where fears are to faced, love embraced, and mermaids are real! Another inspiring installment in a magickal series!!
Avery gets talked into doing a reality show at Siren Island in place of her twin sister. Avery is an environmental engineer, not exactly the reality show type. Avery has spent the last couple years trying to get over a traumatic accident and not really living life, so her sister Ruby, feels that getting Avery out to a beautiful Caribbean island and trying something completely out of her comfort zone might get her back to herself again. Avery meets the contestants and works art making it a team effort. She can't really take the meet the bachelor idea too seriously. Well, she gets a new perspective and learns about magic , while meeting someone else that might be a romantic relationship. She never expected all that from her trip. Empowering women and having fun so it doesn't turn out to be too bad of a trip!
I have read all of O’Malley’s books and loved every single one. Her writing pulls me in and completely takes me away. In this book, she does it again, although the premise itself was a surprise. I wondered at first if I would really like it, but I stuck with it because of her way with words and with creating characters who become like family. My only...I’m not sure what word to use because it’s not a complaint but perhaps just a question/concern is the characters who arrive on Siren Island & the newcomers—what is the backstory as to how they became mermaid? Tat would be interesting to know and perhaps that’s coming in a future book!
A Good Chance is a wonderful light read. It makes you feel like you are going on a vacation to the Caribbean with the vivid descriptions of the setting and surroundings. The main female character Avery is likable and realistic. You can understand her and why she acts and reacts the way she does. It is a joy to travel along with her on a journey to paradise and self discovery. Siren Island truly sounds like a wonderful place and the women of the Laughing Mermaid are extremely interesting and intriguing. I recommend this book, especially if you are in need of a quick “pick me up” trip away from reality.
Avery helps her sister by taking her place on a reality show about love on Siren Island. Putting herself on screen on this kind of show is totally out of Avery's comfort zone, but after being in a bad accident years before and hiding herself away since, this is just what she needs.
I loved Avery's willingness to face her fears head on, and even though she constantly doubted the direction the show was taking, she still kept trying to make the best of her situation. The other characters were such fun to read, as were the mermaids, who subtly help steer Avery in the right direction.
I enjoyed reading this story and look forward to more set in Siren Island.
Astounding. Every book I read by this author is better than the one before. How does she do that? This is the third book in the Siren Island series. Avery is convinced to play a participant in a reality show on Siren Island. The characters she meets and the show’s producer, Roman, are not only believable characters, but also very likeable overall. I don’t watch reality TV and don’t really think it is entertaining, but this book certainly is, even including laugh-out-loud scenes. While there are plenty of conflicts, this book is full of fun surprises and the ending is the best! I would highly recommend this book, along with all of Tricia’s other books.
“A Good Chance” by Tricia O’Malley is the newest book in the Siren Series. I have to admit, one of my favorite things in this series is Irma, the owner of The Laughing Mermaid, and her two daughters; so as the storyline started to become clear, I was a little apprehensive. To my delight, this story was engrossing and immensely entertaining! The protagonist is strong, intelligent, straightforward and grounded. The interactions between Irma, her daughters, and the other characters are true to the previous story lines and exceptionally well-written! This book is an excellent addition to this series! If you enjoy a little bit of fantasy in your light romance, you NEED this book!
Avery’s Sister has signed up for a reality show to find love but instead wants her hermit of a Sister to take her place instead without anyone knowing. How can Amber pretend to be Ruby who is in every way her opposite?
Well she doesn’t have time to think as her identical twin has booked her flight to Siren Island where the show is being hosted but will the Bachelor cat he Avery’s eye or will she finally find Mr. Right??
Couldn’t put the book down and read late into the night to finish it. I love the Siten Island series and am addicted. I never want it to end!
Once again, Ms. O'Malley has given us a book that makes us wish that we could actually go to Siren Island.
The characters come to life and seem so real that you would love to meet them. Who wouldn't want Irma and het daughters as friends and mentors. That is what Avery found when she bailed out her sister for the umpteenth time.
After reliving a past trauma, winning a reality dating show and learning that magick is real, Avery and we readers get a satisfying ending that leaves us feeling good. Something we all can use these days.
I like this book. Loyal, but fearful, Avery bails out her twin sister Ruby by taking her place on a reality show. She falls in love, not with the show’s “bachelor,” but with one of the producers. Their relationship and the personal growth Avery experiences form the plot. The characters grow on you, and Avery actually finds her strength. It doesn’t hurt to have a touch of magic included. That just makes it all the more delicious. There’s some really good wisdom in this not so simple tale. It’s interesting to find a real life connection with fictional character characters. For a pleasant, well written, really good story, read this book.
Maybe it helped that I read this book on the plane to the Caribbean. One look at that aqua water and I think I could hear the sirens call too! This is the third book in a series, but the first I have read. I really enjoyed it. Avery agrees to help her twin sister by taking her place on a reality dating show on a tropical island. It is so far out of character for her, but it becomes an eye opening experience as she heals from a the trauma of an accident while falling in love.
I thought I couldn’t possibly feel more than I did when I read the Mystic Cove series but this Siren Island series... I think I will be rereading it trying to channel my inner mermaid. Since I found the writings of Tricia O’Malley I have devoured all of her stories. Her stories truly transport me to another place and remind me that we all hold a bit of power and magic.
Are reality shows your thing, or maybe you want to learn about what might go on behind the scenes?
This book is your answer to a few of the possibilities! A massive villa on a tropical island filled with beautiful women and a handsome bachelor, what could possibly go wrong...or right? Read on to find out what happens when you try to help your sister out of a jam and end up finding yourself instead.
Ok, I am self-confessed, mermaid tale lover. Each book in this series so far could be stand alone, but you would miss out not starting from the beginning. You practically feel like you are standing on carribean shores. Again a humorous fun read as Avery takes her twin sister's place in a reality bachelor show. I enjoyed it even though I never watch reality shows. A solid author who weaves magic, reality and storylines effortlessly. A new favorite reread.
Once again, Tricia O'Malley has written a fantastic story! I loved it!! I've read the other books in this series and this one did not disappoint. Avery's character develops from a scared anxiety-driven woman to a smart, strong woman who faces her fears. She learns that facing those fears make her brave, and strong enough to take a chance at love.
I was grateful to receive a beta copy which I read so quickly I had to refresh my memory. Thus a day late for full review. I loved the book the characters. There was serious stressful scenes and yet funny at the same time. The be prepared motto of Avery were perfect and laughable. It was interesting seeing what goes on been the scene of reality TV shows.
