After a piss poor performance with a deadly werewolf leaves her scarred for life, private detective Dionne Cruz isn't trusted with anything more arduous than an uptown babysitting job. But when a random gas explosion proves to be anything but, her investigative and witchin' skills are tested to the full. But there's mischief in the shadows, and If she screws up again, more than her reputation is on the line - she could lose her soul.

A Postcard from Hell is a (fairly) light-hearted, cozy-like paranormal mystery - think London Lovett and her Port Danby series. If you enjoy a bit of the unexpected mixed with serious fun, then you will love Dionne and Liam as they tackle their first mystery together!

AFTER ALL, WHAT WAS LIFE WITHOUT A LITTLE DRAMA?

The story is a paranormal mystery with a touch of humor. This is a quick read that will keep the pages turning with a large cast of characters—but don’t let that fool you. The Goblin Dicks Paranormal Detective Agency is co-owned by Harrison and Dionne. They will land a big case, one that will bring in a tidy sum to help the business. What should involve both partners will have one slacking and the other picking up more than half the load?

Throw in a former police detective that is also involved in a case in the same building, and things start leading to more clues. Why are their several deaths tied to one building? Now threats are being made to their client? What is behind the mysterious postcard and to what extreme is someone willing to go to obtain it?

“An ancient handwriting on a modern-day postcard with a modern-day message, with a ridiculously expensive stamp on it. I’ve got to admit, this one has me baffled.”

I loved the creativity of Ms. Adrienne Blake with her characters and their talents, both good and evil. Humans, goblins, witches, weres, and demons—all are tangled up in this mystery. Maybe two individuals might just realize they have something special this time around.

This may be short but oh boy, I loved it!! I want more from the Goblin Dicks Paranormal Detective Agency (great name, by the way) and see just what Dionne has gotten herself into next!
Liam was yummy but Harrison should be hung by his Goblin toes!
Escape your stress-filled life for a short while with a feisty, snarky witch to help you decompress!

Dionne is an investigator/partner in Goblin Dicks Paranormal Detective Agency. She is part-human, part-witch, and part-goblin and her partner in the business is a goblin. During her first assignment, she was nearly killed by a rogue werewolf who tried to rip her heart out with his claws, and she still bears the scar over her heart. Therefore, her senior partner Harrison, a former detective, wanted her to take it easy until she is fully recovered, so he lets her handle what should only be a “babysitting” type of assignment providing protection for six months.

Dionne arrived at the Crane Building for the fancy penthouse party Harrison sent her to in his place and was delayed in the lobby by Detective Liam Wells. They had gone to the academy together, but she had no interest in the annoying man. She was just about to get in the elevator when there was an explosion and the building shook! It looked like the floor with the explosion was where Liam had just been to follow up with a witness, Wendy Cane. The police were saying it was an accidental gas explosion… but it was more than that. Not only was Wendy dead, but an innocent neighbor died next door to her. Harrison called her to say their penthouse client in this building, talented author Albert Alderton, still wanted their protection, so she would be coming back here for the evening shift while Harrison protected him during the day.

Liam came over to Dionne’s apartment to talk about evidence Wendy had given him in his case: a postcard with an old stamp that his murder victim had given to her. Dionne looked at it through her witch’s slipstream vision, where magic and reality collided, and saw evil magic. They team up so Dionne can look at Wendy’s apartment with him and see if any magic was involved. Dionne felt that whoever was doing the magic in Wendy’s apartment made a complete mess of it, then kept casting more spells to hide the screw-ups he made before each botched spell. But Dionne told Liam it definitely wasn’t an accident and confirmed he had a double homicide on this one when the badly done magic caused the death of the neighbor who was in the kitchen when the explosion occurred.

Dionne went to her client’s penthouse and happened to ask Albert if he knew Wendy and the neighbor who had both died in the explosion. To her surprise, he knew them well since they were his beta readers who read his books before publication. Was there a connection with her client and Liam’s investigation? Things were getting complicated and intertwined. This investigation could ultimately cost them not only their lives, but worse as something evil wants their souls.

I was delighted with this well-written book that not only contained humor, but merged multiple mysteries together in a paranormal setting where anything could happen! The characters were wonderful and likable, developed well so they felt more real to the reader. The story line was well-paced and kept the reader’s interest from start to finish. Grab your copy and be prepared for lots of action and intrigue!

A POSTCARD FROM HELL is the first book in The Goblin Dicks Paranormal Detective Agency series.

There are a lot of references to past events, but this is supposed to be the first in the series. It left me feeling that I had missed a book that doesn’t exist. It’s not that I felt I needed to have read another book, just that there were all of these references to something else. For example, if I needed to know about the attack that left Dionne scarred, then why not a prologue, at the very least, that provided that?

Now, the Postcard from Hell? That was a fun paranormal mystery with a dash of romance. Dionne and her partner at the Goblin Dicks Paranormal Detective Agency are working around the clock for a big client who has received threats. The first night that Dionne is to relieve Harrison, her partner, for her shift of babysitting the client a gas explosion happens on another floor in the building. Thus begins the many questions about a pretty little postcard for a seaside resort.

“An ancient handwriting on a modern-day postcard with a modern-day message, with a ridiculously expensive stamp on it. I’ve got to admit, this one has me baffled.”

The story is creative, the characters are deliciously diverse, and the plot is beautifully tangled and twisted.

Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via Booksprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Dionne is getting ready to start her job for her agency that her partner Harrison set up. He thinks that this a good job since her werewolf attack on her. Dionne is about to head up when she runs into Liam. She can't believe he is there, he hasn't changed to much. They are catching up with one another when an explosion hits. Liam realizes that the explosion is located on the floor of person that was a witness to a murder.
When Dionne finally makes it home, the last person she expects to walk into her apartment is Liam. She has feelings for him that she will not let him know about. He is their to ask her help with something from his case. The item gets her horrible vision and wants it away from her.
The client still wants them to protect her and will pay for entire new wardrobe for them. So she gets her new clothes and gets ready. Liam again asks for her help. He takes her to the apartment complex her client is and takes her to the second floor. What she finds out from there, doesn't make it sense to her.
Turns out her client and the others are tied together. Dionne and Liam will work together to keep everyone safe but the person that is behind everything is the last person she expected.

I enjoyed this. The author did a really good job of seamlessly inserting the reader into her world (one where mythical creatures and magic exist alongside humans in a modern-day setting) without it being confusing or overwhelming. The main character sleuth (Dionne) was smart, strong and I liked her snarkiness.

The book does refer to previous events (despite being a first in series). On the one hand, I like that the characters had a concrete background and old history. On the other hand, I found myself a few times thinking "Hey, I'd have liked to read about that!". (Maybe a future prequel novella? I'd read it if there was one).

The book is described as being "cozy-like" and it does have a lot of the hallmarks of a cozy. However, there is -a lot- of swearing in it and I'm not just talking "damn" either. That's the only bit I can see throwing some cozy fans off, even though I didn't mind it.

Picked up on Kindle Unlimited where it is currently available at the time of this review. I can definitely recommend checking this book out and look forward to seeing what's next for the series.

Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable.
Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story.

Our heroine already has a bad rep so this is her chance to prove herself. Of course, she might need a little help from the attractive police detective.

This is the start of a new paranormal mystery series featuring a fascinating mix of characters both paranormal and mundane. I really like the mix of characters. We only get glimpse of many of them in this book, so I am definitely looking forward to learning more in future stories. This story is well written and easy to read with mystery, suspense and a nice dose of humor as well. The plot has several surprises in it which keep you guessing and turning pages to see what comes next. Overall, it was a very fun read and I am looking forward to more stories with this detective agency.

Highly recommended.

Right from the off with a name like Goblin Dicks Paranormal Detective Agency, you know this is not your average Witchy Mystery

The characters are well written and not the "broken Witch" cliche you may expect. In fact park anything you may expect because this book is such a breath of fresh air, You can't help but enjoy it!

I cannot wait to see where this series is going to go!

A quick fun cozy mystery about Dionne who is a witch and a private investigator and the name of the detective agency had me chuckling, it involves a postcard with a very expensive stamp on it, a body count that has something to do with the building and a hunky police detective Liam. Anita Blake meets Stephanie Plum

A Post card from Hell is quite an entertaining read. Whodunit junkies and fans of the paranormal alike will enjoy this cheeky and humorous "detective gets her man - and her demon" mash-up. Cleverly written, slightly snarky, and clearly ripe for a sequel. I'm all in. This is a very enthusiastic and totally voluntary ARC review.

A great short story that I personally feel needed a little bit more added to it as there are references to past events, maybe a preface to add those references? Other wise the story was great and kept me pulled in.

A Postcard From Hell was a fast paced read that beckoned the reader to continue reading. The characters are a bit different that one would find in a cozy mystery, but that just adds to the story line. The author's writing leaves the reader wanting more as the story comes to an end.

This was a fun and short romp through the mundane Paranormal world of The Goblin Dicks Detective Agency by Adrienne Blake.

Dionne Cruz is a fun character with spunk. She is a brilliant detective and has a little Witchy magic to help if needed.

As with most good stories, the bas guy gets in the way and a little Romance starts.

Read it!

The book had an ingenious hook; witch policewoman becomes a Private Investigator with her Goblin partner. If that isn’t enough to get you reading , be assured that the twists, turns and surprises will. It’s a simple job and you know what that means! I sure hope there are more stories to be told!

Mystery

I love a good mystery and this book didn't disappoint. Twist and turns made it difficult to foresee the end and tell who was the culprit and why a mere postcard seemed to be so all important.

Good read

I usually don't read short stories but this one sounded like fun and had good reviews. I liked it. There was enough world building and character development I knew who was who, and the mystery was entertaining. The magic was fun too. And I want to pet the cat.

A Postcard From Hell - I did not realize this is part of a series. There are references to past events. Other than that, this was a quickly read story without any confusion. Fast paced, filled with humor but too much of the vulgar language. There is an overview, which I like since I do not always remember what a book is about or know. I found this book on Booksprout. 4*

Spelling Bee - Oh, sweet mother of frogs–– What a cute, funny little coffee break read. This is my first read by this author and I loved it!

Cute, funny, even with the kids. The storyline is good with plenty of humor. The characters have likeable personalities, even the 13-year-old. Good dialog.

I find this a good introduction to the Misty Cedars series. The pace is fast and too soon the story is finished.

There is an overview, which I appreciate knowing about a book before I read it. I found this book on Booksprout. 4*

Dionne made an almost fatal mistake in her past assignment with a werewolf and now, she just has to bite the bullet and accept the babysitting job until she can prove herself again. But hey, these uptown jobs do pay the rent and are bread and butter, especially to private eyes. But she did not bargain on something more sinister being involved, something darker and more dangerous and something that she had known before rising from her past....

An excellent fun and exciting read; a great start to a new series. Gotta love Dionne and her relationship with her ex-colleague Liam. I hope she holds out a lot longer and makes him work hard for her attention, and not fall for his charms the way everyone woman has done so!
