Only three things stand between Ava Carmichael and her twelve billion dollar inheritance:
1. A year of living in Bliss, Kansas. 2. A relationship that lasts six consecutive months. 3. And pie.
Ava has run a multi-billion-dollar company, negotiated with shark investors, and hobnobbed with business royalty, but she’s about to be defeated by her inability to turn sugar, flour, and apple pie filling into something edible.
Conveniently, the owner of the diner next door, Parker Blake, is magic in the kitchen. And he technically works for her. So she can make him teach her to bake. And, hey, if everyone assumes they’re heating up more than the oven during their time in the kitchen…well, that’s called multitasking.
Parker Blake likes his women the way he likes his coffee: not in his diner. But gorgeous, strong-willed, type-A Ava clearly isn’t going to stop messing up his kitchen—or his simple, stress-free small town life—until the conditions of her daddy’s will are met. So, sure, he’ll teach his “boss” to bake.
But once the kitchen door closes, it’s pretty clear who’s really in charge.
Erin Nicholas is the New York Times bestselling author of over sixty sexy contemporary romances. Her stories have been described as toe-curling, enchanting, steamy and fun.
She lives in the Midwest with her husband who only wants to read the sex scenes in her books, her kids who will never read the sex scenes in her books, and family and friends who say they’re shocked by the sex scenes in her books (yeah, right!).
High Heels and Haystacks is book two in the Billionaires in Blue Jeans series by Erin Nicholas. I think I might have loved this book even more than I did the first book. Not because it’s better. I think I am more used to Erin’s writing style now. And, I have fallen in love with these three sisters and with the town of Bliss, Kansas.
Ava Carmichael can sit at the head of a multi-billion dollar conglomerate and not bat an eye. But when her father died and the will mandated she and her two sisters spend a year in Bliss, Kansas and run a pie shop, she was completely out of her element. Her specific job was that she had to bake the pies. And, she had to date someone for six months, and have fun! Who better to fill that dating stipulation than the sexy diner owner next door, Parker Blake. And perhaps he could teach her how to bake pies as well?
“Food can actually mean something to people. And food is what I do. It’s the only thing I really know how to do. So yeah, I want my food to matter.”
Parker Blake’s father moved he and his mother to Bliss when Parker was a teenager. It was supposed to be a better life for them, getting them out of the big city, and it was. Except that his father died only a few years after they moved there. Now Parker runs the diner his father started. He runs it just as his father did, with the same recipes, and the same hours. He provides something the town needs, good home cooked food. His hours and his routine never vary. It’s the way he likes things, it’s what he needs, peaceful and stable. Then Ava and her sisters came to town and took over the pie shop next door and turned his world upside down.
“She didn’t know what to do with Parker Blake. He was not just surprising her, but he was distracting her. And making her like it.”
Parker and Ava have instant chemistry but both are very regimented people, very set in their ways. Ava is supposed to be having fun, learning to bake pies. So Parker has decided that he will teach her to appreciate food, to enjoy food, to enjoy the process of making food. And let’s just say he has some pretty awesome teaching techniques.
“Every time he thought he knew her, thought he knew what to do, how to handle her, she did…this. She became real and vulnerable and…amazing.”
It was so much fun watching these two fall. Especially Ava. She was so stiff in the beginning. But she felt like Parker really saw her, understood her. She could relax with him, let her guard down. She didn’t have to be in charge. But she also challenged Parker and his routines. She saw that he had so much more to give, ways he wanted to grow. He just wouldn’t let himself. These two both made each other better but drove each other crazy. But oh that chemistry was there. Together they gave cooking a whole new definition!
“Somehow, in a short time, Bliss had grown on her. It was a bump in her road, or so she’d thought, but there was something about a place that ran according to its own rules and everyone was accepted for who they were and where everyone had a place, no matter how quirky.”
This series is just so much fun. I can’t get enough of it. I can’t wait to get to the next book, Brynn the scientist’s story, and Noah, Cashmere and Camo. And now I seem to have a huge craving for apple pie!
I think it’s cute that you think you’re telling me to jump… It’s me who’s telling you to tell me to jump. Because it’s hot… And I really want to jump, Parker.
“What are you doing with my rooster?” Ava glanced down at the bird under her arm. “Showing him who’s boss.”
My Review:
Eric Nicholas has penned a delightfully sweet, steamy, and multi-layered tale, peppered with amusing wit, delicious steam, and expletives and bawdy talk. It was an entertaining and well-crafted story that was thoughtfully written with an insightfully observant narrative for two fascinating and rather unusual yet likable characters. I adored this book. Ava and Parker were both headstrong personalities and prone to bossiness, but they had common goals and surprisingly, many more commonalities than differences once they got past their wariness and bothered to spend time together. Their relationship was a slow process of merger and acquisition rather than an outright take-over, although that occurred as well with enough sensual chemistry to power a nuclear reactor. I enjoyed how they successfully maneuvered, accommodated, and managed each while forgetting the selfish intent they each had started off with. And I totally agree with Parker, ketchup should never defile a steak.
What happens when you put two strong willed, always in control people together? Well, I’ll tell you; eggs, bowls, avocados, and pies get thrown into walls, a lot of wood gets chopped, and you get some hot, inventive sexy times! The second Carmichael triple has met her match and well on her way to fulfilling the stipulations of her father’s will and getting her twelve billion dollar inheritance, she just didn’t expect to lose her heart along the way.
My perfect man is a good guy hero and if he happens to love to cook and can handle a strong woman who loves to be in control, well all the better and that’s exactly what Erin Nicholas gave me (okay and all her other readers) when she crafted Parker Blake. He is a bit set in his ways and could smile more, but overall he is my kind of hero. Fulfilling his father’s legacy by keeping the diner he started when the family moved to Bliss, Kansas years ago Parker loves serving the people in the town even though he has very particular ways of doing so. When the Carmichael triplets arrive to take over the Pie Shop next door that their father left them and they have to run for a year to inherit their late father’s billions, Parker is on board for helping them any way he can because he doesn’t like what the will stipulates if they aren’t successful. Ava helping herself to his eggs and butter every time he turns around drives him nuts, but he also can’t help but be a bit enamored with the woman who is twisted around the axel trying to bake pie, but doing it in pencil skirts and high heels he can’t help but notice and have oh so dirty thought about on a daily basis.
There was so much I loved about this paring including the fact that these two were very much alike even if they didn’t see it in the beginning. They both needed control in their lives, they lived by their schedules, and they wanted to make sure the people they care about were happy. I enjoyed watching them both realize how much the other one “got” them, how they had figured out what made them tick, and the admiration they had for each other. I loved their sparing because it showed their passion, and watching Parker cook for Ava just to please her and because he wanted her to slow down and enjoy good food was captivating.
I won’t say these two didn’t make any mistakes, but the ones they made weren’t malicious and they meant well, it just took some perspective for them to see it, accept it, and realize that mistakes lead to make up sex which is never a bad thing.
I loved everything about High Heels and Haystacks and this series gets better with each book. If you love small town romance and you aren’t reading Erin Nicholas then you are missing out!
When the exact same type of people are forced to work in close proximity there can only be one outcome: sparks flying everywhere. Ava Carmichael, CEO of a multibillion company, has been tasked with creating a pie if she wants to keep the company. Nothing is going according to plan. And if there is one thing Ava lives by, it's a plan. With spreadsheets. And a Plan B, C, D etc. And then there's Parker Blake, owner of Bliss's only diner. He is a man who likes things exactly the way they are. He has rules. He may be grumpy and surly. He may kick customers out and refuse substitutions. But that's just how he likes it.
The two of them don't like getting messy. But with each other its a different ball game all together. Eggs and avos thrown, attacking roosters and bossiness make for some interesting times. Not to mention the references and analogies involving food and pies. This was another fun and delightful read and I'm looking forward to read the next, and final book in the series.
I really didn't think I would like this one as much as I loved Cori and Evan. I was wrong. Seeing the total power-house, kick ass Ava Carmichael get humanized and mussed up and...just trust me on this when I say that you're going to find spices ridiculously sexy after reading this. Sexy, grumpy, hot man cooking for her. Yes, please, and Please sir, may I have some more? Two thumbs up. May be my favorite Nicholas book yet!
Pretty sure that High Heels and Haystacks ranks up there as one of my top favorite Erin Nicholas reads! A fantastic, sexy, swoon-worthy story that will give you all the feels. A love story between two people who are really so different but the same all in one. Parker, even though he likes things a certain way and wants a certain type of woman....can't seem to get Ava out of head. Ava, who is all about results and will do anything to get them, knows that she HAS to date someone while she spends time in Bliss, thinks that Parker will be the perfect fit. They've already spent a couple of months together and he's not so bad to look at. Sparks immediately fly when these two come together. They are perfect for each other. Balance each other out in a way that makes your heart happy. I highly recommend this one!!!
Delightfully fun, sweetly sexy, engagingly charming and emotionally thrilling romantic journey for this total opposites but perfect for each other couple.
Ava Carmichael is head strong, driven, wicked smart and can not bake a pie to save her inheritance. (could be because she doesn't like sweets or food in general) Parker Blake is sexy, quite, keeps to him self, grumpy all the time cafe owner next door and a dream in the kitchen. (and bedroom) Parker has to teach Ava about pie and struggles to fight the growing attraction between them knowing she will high tail it out of Bilss just as soon as until the conditions of her daddy’s will are met. Will he be strong enough to keep his simple, stress-free small town life? Loved every heart pounding twist and turn .... awesomely entertaining read!
PARKER!!!! I was so not expecting you to be so, well... *fans self* ...dirty and demanding!!
I am a little ashamed to admit that I thought that Ava and Parker might be my least favorite couple in this series (I’ve been really excited about Brynn and Noah),but I was SO, SO wrong. They were perfect together, and not just because their chemistry was OFF THE CHARTS!! You know how people say that two people “bring the best out of each other”? This is not the case with Ava and Parker. Instead, they just each recognized the truth in each other and allowed themselves to just be who they are. Parker took the time to discover what REALLY made Ava a bad***, and Ava really saw who Parker was behind the grumpiness and stubbornness.
...And they really knew how to use a mud room, a kitchen and a greenhouse.
There was such a sweetness and honesty from Parker that, when mixed with his skill of control in the bedroom, I couldn’t help but fish over him. <—See, I’m not even sure how I got back to talking about him. Lol.
This story was a perfect blend of humor, heat and sweet that made me fall even more in love with the Carmichael triplets, the town of Bliss and all of its residents. I can hardly wait to read more.
I received this book for free from Publicity team for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
4.5 hearts
I'm generally not big on billionaires but small towns are my history. I understand them. They aren't quite as they are portrayed in fiction but there are quirky folks who are comfortable and accepted as they might not be anywhere else. And the billionaires in this case are WOMEN not men! Cori was so creative and fun in Diamonds and Dirt Roads . And now I'm invested in the town and its people, as well as the other two sisters, Ava and Brynn, and Evan's friends, Parker and Noah.
Ava is the high powered, organized one. I can relate to her perfectly. She multi-tasks, she figures out options and backup plans after analyzing the situation. Her abilities are not about having power or money, other than to protect the other members of her family and keep them happy. Her methods of organization, time management and lists are standards with me. She is always busy, not letting go, and doesn't really let herself feel.
Parker has his own rules and organization. Some of his reasons are emotionally similar. The rules are also a way of managing expectations. People are often happier when they know exactly what to expect. His consistent methods give him some control and efficiency also. There's also an aspect of paying homage to his father and how he created the diner.
I enjoyed getting further into the dynamics of Bliss, Kansas. The stories deal mostly with the main couple and their personal growth. But we also got to revisit Cori and Brynn, as well as Evan and Noah to add to the story of Ava and Parker. These people are fun, and their banter is humorous and sexy. I look forward to the third book of Billionaire in Blue Jeans serieswhich is Cashmere and Camo. It is projected for release in May.
This was a slower burn story than I was expecting, as there was definitely the foundation of the Ava and Parker relationship in the first book. But, I enjoyed it. Sometimes, a slow burn can be a lot of fun, especially if you are enjoying the characters and the connection with the characters.
I loved the small town feel of the story, the idea that I felt I was getting to know the people, and the town, and Parker and Ava. There were places where I thought the pacing of this was a little slow, but there were also places where I was charmed. Pie shops, chicken coops, every time Ava threw things in the kitchen, especially when it was at Parker.
Sometimes, the charm of a story are the things that happen to build the story, and this is the case in this book. As it builds to the relationship with Parker and Ava, it also built the story of the town of Bliss and why it just might be a place all want to live.
Ava, Cori and Brynn may think they have the world figured out, but they still have a lot to learn when it comes to matters of the heart. Even from the great beyond, Rudy still has a few lessons to teach his girls. In Diamonds and Dirt Roads, Cori found the courage to go after what she wants. In High Heels and Haystacks it's Ava's turn. Ava is a confident businesswoman, but her personal life is lacking. So are her cooking skills. Enter Parker Blake, her nemesis/temptation. They may get on each other nerves, but the kitchen isn't the only thing their heating up. Pie is the least of her worries. She may have just lost her heart. Small town fun equals big-time romance and life-changing lessons.
The sexual tension between Ava and Parker was so freaking hot! I loved the back and forth between these two. I wouldn’t call this an enemies to lovers storyline because they never hated each other it was more that they were so much alike that they liked getting a rise out of each other. There were several close calls in the romance department between Ava and Parker but it just served in making them hotter for each other and when they finally got together it was awesome and definitely worth the wait. I liked how even though they were alike they were different enough to complement one another. I loved the interaction with Ava and her sisters and then the other guys in there group. This was a great second book in this trilogy and you definitely won’t be disappointed in it. Can’t wait for Brynn and Noah’s story next!
Another great one in this series and the author actually made me like a type of heroine I normally don't care much for but I liked how she gave Ava layers. Yes, she had a limo, went to all the best places but she was still down to earth and would do anything for her sisters. And she also made me like grumpy don't colour outside the lines Parker. These two were remarkably similar and just clicked. Ava made Parker see that change doesn't have to be bad and Parker taught her how to have fun without work taking over.
I absolutely love a grumpy hero who falls hard and that is exactly what I got in High Heels and Haystacks. Parker Blake is the perfect combination of grumpy and gruff exterior and sweet and sexy inside. He meets his match in Ava Carmichael, the sassy CEO who moves to Bliss to fulfill her father's will and finds so much more.
These two have it all: hilarious banter, over the top chemistry, and they genuinely like each other. Oh, and the steamy sex! Like seriously, melt-your-kindle steamy.
Erin Nicholas has created a fantastic series with these triplets and the men who fall in love with them. I can not wait for Noah and Brynn's story!!!
What a great story! Erin Nicholas brings her great writing back to Bliss, Kansas for another great story. I didn't think I liked Ava with what I knew from the first book in the series, but after reading this book, she may be my favorite of the triplets. Parker and Ava definitely cook up some heat in and out of the kitchen. If you like fun, sassy and sexy reads, then you don't want to miss this one.
Ava and Parker are both strong, hard-headed individuals who like things done their way. Put them together and the sparks certainly fly...both in the kitchen and the bedroom. They need to adhere to Rudy's will stipulations and at the same time get what they want out of the deal. For Ava, that means making pies as little as possible and getting back to her CEO gig in NY. For Parker, he wants to own the diner outright and maybe get the chance to dabble in specialty pies at the pie shop. When they agree to help each other they never imagine the intensity they feel won't allow them to just walk away from each other. What happens when their hearts are just as engaged as their heads makes for another awesome story by Erin Nicholas!
The book title gives an indication that in some ways, the grumpy, small town diner owner, Parker, and the Manhattan CEO, Ava, are polar opposites, but they both like order, routine and control in their lives. When Ava and her sisters move to Bliss, Kansas to fulfill the terms of their father's will, to live in Bliss for a year and make his pie shop a success, Ava gets put in charge of making the pies. There’s not much need for pie baking in her corporate world, so she’s a little out of her element. Since Parker knows plenty about cooking and baking, she hopes she can convince him to teach her to make pies, and the time they spend together can fulfill the other term of the will – that she date the same man for six months.
I read the first book in this series and fell nose over toes for all these characters, so I had to grab an early copy of this one when I had the chance (and yes, I loved it so much I also purchased a copy.) There are so many elements in this series that make it a terrific, satisfying and unique read. Triplet sisters who couldn’t be more different from each other in personality. Quaint, quirky, loveable peripheral characters. Vivid, inviting, realistic small-town setting that is vastly different from the sisters’ background and upbringing. Great twist on the billionaire trope with the heroines as the billionaires. Larger-than-life heroes with unique personalities and huge hearts. It all adds up to a fantastic, delightful, entertaining story that I couldn’t put down. There were some insightful moments, as Parker and Ava learned new things about themselves. There were laugh-out-loud scenes like Ava being the boss of a rooster. There were heartfelt, poignant grand gestures (and grand gestures gone awry). And of course, with food and baking so prevalent, there were lots and lots of creative uses for food outside the kitchen.
Nicholas does an amazing job of creating a warn, endearing fictional world and making the reader a part of that world, and it was great fun to revisit Bliss, the Carmichael triplets and their guys. Plan a trip to Bliss, KS in your immediate future and fall in love with Ava and Parker. Then you’ll want to catch up on Cori and Evan's story in Diamonds and Dirt Roads so you’ll be ready for Brynn and Noah’s story when Cashmere and Camo comes out next month.
*I reviewed this book freely and voluntarily, having made no commitment to provide a review and receiving no compensation of any kind from any source for this review.
This book has both cursing (including f-bombs) and sex – if those things will cause you leave a bad review, you should probably skip this one. This book can stand alone, but I highly suggest reading the first book so that the circumstances of the Carmichael girls being in Bliss and their various relationships really make sense. It is also just a great book so read it for that reason, if no other. ***SPOILER TO END OF THIS PARAGRAPH*** This book also has some food-sex-play. If that's not your thing then you might want to skip the first sex scene.
Sometimes the first book of a series is so good that the second book can come off a little flat or a little less amazing, but this book didn't suffer from that “hangover” at all. I really loved the relationship that developed between Ava and Parker, which I confess surprised me. I wasn't sure how Erin Nicholas was going to make two grouchy, contrary people come together and make it believable, but I should have known not to doubt her because these two worked perfectly together. Their relationship developed so organically and so smoothly that neither of them really seemed to notice it, which made for fun reading.
Although I loved them as a couple, watching Ava grow and change as a person was really great because the fact that she wasn't able to just relax and enjoy life made my heart ache for her. Seeing Ava learn to enjoy not only the simple things in life but just life in general, and to actually enjoy being herself was my favorite part of this book. And then there was Parker. Oh, Parker. He wasn't my kind of hero to start with, to be totally honest. His growly dictatorship at the diner made me want to cuss at my Kindle I must admit (I'd never eat at his diner because in real life having someone tell me what I can and can't do is as off-putting as it gets), but learning about his past, and watching him change a little to become someone who wasn't as harsh was really fabulous. When he talked about Bliss being home, I swooned, I can't lie. Also, his “grand gesture” to Ava? It was so sweet and so perfect for them that I actually said “aww” out loud when I read it. While I still don't enjoy the growling, dominant alpha schtick, I did wind up loving Parker and that really surprised me.
This might seem weird, but I need to talk about Hank for a minute. Hank and his cronies were fantastic in the first book but oh my goodness, I loved him in this one so much. (SLIGHT SPOILERS TO END OF PARAGRAPH) When he went off on Parker about who Ava was, I wanted to high five him so hard. That entire speech made my heart flutter, I loved it that much. Their dad might not still be around, but they've got one heckuva champion in Hank.
I ADORED the little looks at Noah and Brynn and cannot wait for that book. Specifically giggling on game night, oh my gosh. I loved that so much.
I would highly recommend this series to anyone who likes a billionaire story with a twist (the twist being that the billionaire part isn't that big of a deal) and a true love story between two highly unlikely characters.
Oh, how I loved this one, a great continuation to this series.
This time we get to see Ava and Parker’s story, and it was so much fun and sexy. We knew them from the previous book but in here we truly got to see what made them tick. And I loved it.
Ava is the most serious of the triplets, she runs Carmichael’s and like that, she’s able to help her sisters do their own thing. I loved that about Ava, she was a truly sweet and caring soul who hid behind a kickass wall. She was great at that and I loved her kickass side, but I loved her soft side the best. And I loved that it was Parker, someone who didn’t treat her any different than he would treat any other person, who made that softer side come out.
Parker was lovely, such a tough exterior, but inside he was so loving to others. It wasn’t something people noticed at first sight, however the town DID notice, they just let him believe he was all toughy. He was happy like that. And that made me fall for this town even more (even though I prefer cities to small towns, lol).
These two together were awesome. Not only were they stubborn, but they got things done, and those things were done to better other people, to take care of others. These guys could rule the town, lol, but instead they took care of it.
They were also crazy hot, like whoa hot.
I didn’t expect to love these two so much, tbh. I’ve been looking forward to reading Brynn’s story and yeah, I knew this story was gonna be good, but not this good. :-)
So, completely in love with Ava and Parker.
*Thank you to Rock Star Lit for providing a copy in exchange of my honest opinion*
*great big happy sigh* Just when I think the last book I read by Erin Nicholas was the best one she's ever written. She goes and writes another one that surpasses the last one. I absolutely loved this new story in the Billionaires in Blue Jeans series. Loved everything about Parker and Ava. Their sexual chemistry was off the charts steaming hot! Their interactions were so funny and cute and sweet too. Lots of awww moments. He likes things a certain way but Ava just storms into his life and turns his life upside down. And she looked hot doing it too. They were the perfect fit in every way. And let me tell you, I so wanted to take Ava's place in this story because Parker sure knew how to take care of her. I will never look at food the same way again. I need my own Parker now. Even if he comes off as gruff and grumpy. I loved the way Ava brought a smile to his face and made him laugh. I'm sighing again just thinking about this story. A definite must read. Seriously, go out and get this series. You will love it!
I am absolutely loving this new series!!!! Bliss, Kansas sounds like the perfect place to live.
Ava and Parker seem so different on the surface but it doesn't take them long to figure out how much alike they really are. All they really want to do is take care of those they care about. Once they figure out that it's better to do it together, life takes on a whole new meaning for both of them.
This is one of my favorite Erin Nicholas books to date.
Erin has this way of dragging you into her stories by the heart strings. The sexual tension between Parker and Ava is amazing. The baking in the kitchen isn't the only thing that heads up. Can Parker get Ava to finally cook a pie by herself and will Ava put her guard down and stop throwing stuff at the wall 😊
The second book was as good as the first. The Bliss story continues and the characters are as lovable in this story also. Loved the happily ever after.
It’s official - Erin Nicholas is my newest obsession.
That should be my review right there because everything I’m going to say from now on is just variations on that theme.
I loved this book. It felt like it took the sass of a Jill Shalvis novel and mixed it with the relationships of a Nora Roberts’ novel - and then added a sparkle that I’ve come to associate with Erin Nicholas all herself.
This is the second book in the Billionaires and Blue Jeans series. While you don’t really have to read the books in order (I personally have yet to read the first in the series, Diamonds and Dirt Roads - but will soon since I just bought it today), I honestly think you’d get a better handle on Bliss, the triplets, and their men/soon to be men if you read them in order. The next book, Cashmere and Camo, comes out in May 2018. Thank God - not sure I could wait much longer than that.
As well as the page-turning writing, I found that the book really captured the magic of two people falling in love. Ava and Parker were kindred spirits who were so similar yet so different. Their interactions - irritation to acceptance to sex to love - felt so real that I actually got that jumpy, happy feeling in my tummy. Beautiful!
Not only that but the book was laugh out loud funny. The scene about the rooster was bloody hilarious - I actually laughed out loud, had to stop reading and then relate it to the other folks in the room.
That happened a lot. You honestly feel like you know these characters. Like they are part of your own life and own world - or more like you are part of theirs. I had to stop myself from constantly asking my own friends and family if they’d heard about Ava and Parker’s shenanigans. Luckily, they already know I’m crazy so it wouldn’t have been too big of a deal if I had!
As I said, I’m full on obsessed with Ms Nicholas’ books and this one is no different. So far, I’ve found that her novels are full of sass, style and sexy times. Plus, her characters say ‘fuck’ a lot and that just makes my little ladylike heart go pitter pat. 5 stars.
The shenanigans continue in Bliss as Ava and Parker finally give in to the outrageous chemistry between them. These two headstrong characters will take you on a fun, wild, and "blissful" ride! I highly recommend this one.
I give High Heels and Haystacks by Erin Nicholas Five Stars. This is book two of the Billionaires in Blue Jeans series. This book can be read as a stand alone novel but I would recommend reading the books in order of how they are written. Like all of Erin's books this was very well written, was a quick read, and had lots of Humor. You will find yourself going through a bunch of emotions but laughter and love will be the biggest ones. This book has a HEA and you will fall in love with Parker and Ava. If you love boss/employee romances you will love this book because it also has a twist to it.
Ava Carmichael is set to inherit twelve billion dollars but in order to do so she must follow through with the demands her father put in his will. If not she stands to lose not just the money but her job also. In order to keep her way of life and inherit the money she must live in Bliss, Kansas for a year, she must have a serious relationship with one person for 6 months and she must bake pies... Ava is use to being in board rooms, negotiating million dollar deals, and working side by side with other business owners but do you think she can make a simple pie? The answer is no! Ava is about to be defeated by a simple pie and she does not like that at all.
Parker Blake is the owner of the diner that is located next door to the pie shop. Unlike Ava, Parker is a wiz in the kitchen. When Ava figures out that Parker technically works for her she decided that she is going to make Parker teach her how to bake a pie. Ava also figured that people will see them together and assume they are dating so this idea will take care of two items on her checklist.
Parker Blake has an ideal of the type of women he likes and Ava Carmichael is not that type. Ava loves to come into his kitchen to borrow stuff so when she walks in and hits him with her new idea he is ready to help her out immediately because the only way he is going to get her out of his kitchen is to check off the boxes on her checklist and get her out of town. Parker will help his "Boss" learn how to make pies but the gloves are off as soon as the kitchen door is closes and it becomes pretty clear who is really in charge.
High Heels and Haystacks is a journey of two people finding a way to blend their lives together. I have been waiting for book two because Parker and Ava both have the have these OCD personalities that clash all the time. Putting them together seem like a headache because they are so much alike but when you read about them you can see they were made for one another. They understand each other’s talents and faults. When Ava comes up with a solution to her part of her father’s stipulation in the will she goes to Parker with a deal. After they make their deal they are spending more and more time together and in the process Parker and Ava learn more about one another. They also break down each other’s walls and it is a sight to behold. You learn so much about them from this book and you learn why they both must have so much control. Ava wants her sister to get what she wants, and, in the process, she forgets about taking care of herself and enjoying life’s little pleasures. Parker is obsessed with things being his way or the highway it is. Then he starts letting Ava into his daily life and talking her into his home where he cooks for her. He starts changing without even realizing it but when Ava makes some changes to both their lives he doesn’t know how to handle it. It will take both Parker and Ava looking into themselves to see if they can make it work.
I love Parker and Ava because they were made for each other and with their charts, spreadsheets and organizational skills. They make you laugh and want to enjoy the food the way they do when they are in and out of the kitchen. I love their dirty talk and it gets cute when Ava tries to be the boss in the bedroom. Their chemistry is intense, and they heat up any room they are in together. I love these characters and cannot wait to read more. It’s a great story of romance, love and small town filled with family.
Loved book #2 in the Billionaires in Blue Jeans series by Erin Nicholas!
Triplet daughters of a recently deceased billionaire have to follow his will to the letter to get their inheritance. So...they move to Bliss, Kansas and take on his 'rules'. They've completed Rule# 1, which was move to Bliss. Rule #2 is to run Rudy's pie shop (WHAT??). Rule #3 is different for each daughter.
This is Ava and Parker's story. Ava the high powered CEO of her dad's corporation and Parker a very young curmudgeon.
After reading Book #1, and seeing Parker and Ava at each others throats more often than not, I wondered...how will this work. THIS is the power that Ms. Nicholas has with spinning a tale!
Parker likes things the same. Same is good. Same is comfortable. He values the people in his town, although he also has strict rules about his diner! Ava must change with the times, and with her corporate adversaries. Change can be a good financial opportunity. Changing beaus for corporate benefits is just what she does.
Ava can't cook, has never even tried, but her father has give her the task of making pies and dating a man from Bliss for six months. She kept wondering what she did for her father to give her this millstone around her neck! Parker's diner shares a wall with the pie shop. Ava enjoys throwing things at their adjoining wall because she is so frustrated with her task. Enter Parker and a deal to help her learn to bake and heat up the kitchen...and they do...and not always pies!
Even when Ava oversteps and Parker is hurt, they learn something about each other and their relationship. Maybe Rudy knew what he was doing!
High Heels and Haystacks: Billionaires in Blue jeans by Erin Nicholas
Wow! Erin Nicholas really brought it in book two of Billionaires in Blue Jeans series. I loved Diamonds and Dirt Roads and loved getting to know all the characters but I secretly was waiting for this book.
Ava and Parker are just sizzling. Their chemistry and passion for each other is undeniable. Ava and Parker are total opposites. Ava is a rich CEO and a city girl who dresses the part and used to being in control of everything. Parker is his own boss. Parker is a country boy and a small town diner owner. When Parker and Ava get together everything heats up. I love Ava and Parker's banter. Ava and Parker are the perfect example of opposites attract. I love the sexual teasing they throw at each other. My heart swooned. Just perfect.
In High Heels and Haystacks you get everything and then some wrapped up into one book. Erin Nicholas really has a unique writing style. I always feel like I'm there in the book. She has a way of making you laugh on one page and then cry on the next. Erin brings all elements to every book she writes. I always get excited when I hear Erin Nicholas has a new book. High Heels and Haystacks was just amazing. I enjoyed every aspect of this book. It was so good I read it all in one night and now have read it a second time. Ava and Parker are just that. This is definitely a must read. Grab your copy and grab some pie because you will definitely want some after reading High Heels and Haystacks and sit down and fall in love with Parker and Ava.
I have been waiting for this book! High Heels and Hahstacks was such a great and fun read. I fell for these triplet sisters and the men who are called upon to help them in the first book, Diamonds and Dirt Roads.
Triplet sisters, Ava, Brynn, and Cori, have to run a pie shop (as well as a few other stipulations) for a full year in order to fulfill their dad’s will. Noah, Evan, and Parker are the men who will inherit it all of the girls can’t fulfill their parts of the will.
Ava, is tasked with making the pies, dating one guy for six months, and to live in the town of Bliss for one year. It sounds easy, except it’s not anywhere near Ava’s comfort zone. Parker, owns the diner next to the girls’ pie shop, he has his own way of doing things and doesn’t want any kind of change. He’s willing to help Ava out, begrudgingly, as long as he gets what he wants in the end. However, neither plan on liking each other, let alone falling for them.
This whole story was fresh and exciting. It was truly about two people who were falling for each other without a lot of major upheavals going on. It kept me up way later than I should have been just because I couldn’t put it down. Parker and Ava were so realistic and believable. I’ve not only fallen for this group of men and women, but the whole town of Bliss as well. This book was just as refreshing to read as the first one. I can’t wait for Brynn and Noah’s story!
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
