Not all endings are good ones, even for those left alive at the end, in Escaping Darkness Book 6....
A routine survey mission turns into the unthinkable as the Yellowstone Caldera finally breaks free of its earthen chains, releasing thousands of years of pent-up energy in an instant. As fire and ash consume all in their path, signs point to the disaster not being as natural as it first appears...
Barely escaping the disaster in a small plane that takes off from the Yellowstone airport, Mia finds her Texas A&M life turned upside down as the days of class and studying turn into a fight for the very air she needs to survive. While she tries to help her fellow survivors, her niece and nephew are being watched over by her parents on a small farm that quickly succumbs to the choking clouds of ash.
Both sides of the family must fight against man - and nature - in this unique take on the classic Yellowstone post-apocalyptic story. Written by ES Richards in conjunction with #1 best-selling post-apocalyptic author Mike Kraus, this thrilling post-apocalyptic series features characters that are vulnerable, naive and inexperienced who work alongside the prepared and experienced to get through the end of days. The Escaping Darkness series will be 6-books long, published at a rate of approximately one book per month.
The Shadows - Escaping Darkness Book 6 - a review by Rosemary Kenny
A what if...? near-future scenario, The Shadows, Book 6 in the Escaping Darkness series finale, by the dream team of apocalyptic thriller-writers, E.S.Richards and Mike Kraus, brings to a close the survival adventures of Mai,her family and new friends made along the way.
The Armageddon-like Yellowstone National Park's volcanic eruptions continue to kill or seriously harm all those within its vast range of deadly fumes and ash. But now the grim truth is emerging that this might not be a natural event, but evilly man-made. Mia's family farm is enveloped in the toxic ash and life is very difficult. Yet even this is not their only challenge; survivalist groups and other predators lie in wait to seize anything of use - whether people, supplies or even munitions to gain power over those weaker survivors and refugees who are unable to resist.
A powerfully-written novel, that ends (for now) the current series, The Shadows is a salutary warning of what may come to pass in a nightmare future scenario, where survival of the fittest may not just apply to wild four-legged creatures, but mankind as a whole - you have been warned!
This was good but a lot of not believable things they did. They had the car windows shot out and they never wore they masks while driving in the car. The toxic air would have hit them just as bad if not worse but then they always put on their masks when getting out of their cars. That just didn't make sense. The ending was something else when the kids reached their state. I didn't expect that. I know that the food would run out at some time or go bad, so life as we know it would die or hope the air would get better before Humans would perish. I hope we will never experience Yellowstone erupting.
Wow, all six books, from Yellowstone, to Huston, Phoenix, Philadelphia. Where does it all end and when. Power hungry megalomaniacs, Men who think they are better than others all trying to takeover and run their cities how they see fit. And others fighting against maniacal takeovers that terrorise and kill people in order to fulfill their dreams. Amidst it all a family separated by distance and need, find themselves fighting heavy ash clouds, storms, hunger and thirst, to return to each other. Aiding others in their journeys.
I have enjoyed the journey of Mia getting back to her family farm in Houston, a long trek all the way from Yellowstone’s eruption. She and her friends have endured a lot and now she is nearly home, they may have to part. Only problem I have, and that is why it is three stars, I have found that there is a bit of repetition in what people are thinking and feeling, and needing to do. but otherwise a good read, and will read the next one.
....though the storyline is still fantastic, I felt that I had to give it a 3 star 🌟 rating due to all of the discrepancies!!! It seems like it was written by two people who didn't read what the other had written. Badly in need to be edited!!! Very disappointed 😞because all the previous books in this series were great. But like I said, the storyline and characters are still 5 stars 🌟.
This book was fantastic, emotional and started me thinking more about our world and what we could do to improve grave situations. A heartfelt book which has left me wanting to know more of what will happen to each of the characters. Despair, death or comradery and survival. Who wins who looses and will Mia find all she needs for everyone. Please write another book!
This is a fantastic series. I'm on the edge of my seat. So many things that could happen. I hope the boys return to the farmhouse and they find more people and food
I have come to the end of this book and hope that this is not the end of the series. If it is the end then I am very disappointed that there is no more. It has been very entertaining.
Sometimes a bit heavy handed/repetitive with the ‘morality’ /emotional issues that made it feel a bit uncomfortable to read but other than that, a very good post apocalyptic series, based around a natural catastrophe. Hope there are more to come......
I found myself highly invested in this series. I’ve swung through a whole host of emotions whilst reading it. However I found this book to have been rushed. I feel the series could have been extended by another two books.
I just knew this would wrap up this series but nope... Now to wait for the next installment. This was a good one and I'm glad we still have some great characters to follow. Look forward to the next book. Cheers!
This series kept me reading non stop start to finish. As with all of Mike Kraus books I couldn't put them down. I hope there will be a follow up because you left me wanting more.
Absolutely riveting there are many books dealing with the end of the world this is definitely one of the better ones. The continuity of th individual stories was dealt with brilliantly.
It took some time to read all six books but after the last book it left you hanging to complete what was about whatever was going to happen to the Clark family and the three boys in Philadelphia.
The books are a good read. I have enjoyed all of them. But, I read that this is a six book series. That would leave the series incomplete. Will there be another book in this series?
The survivors are going to be great. Thank you for the suspense and twists and turns. I really enjoyed this book and hope that you will continue to keep the survivors alive.
Mr Kraus , as always, starts this series with exciting plot and action. The characters are believably placed in a believable situation that draws you in.
The next amazing book of Escaping Darkness. You will love the characters and the quick action and thinking involved. This is definitely a must read. Do you yourself a favor if you’ve not read the first ones, go back and start at book one.
I felt like this book was a bit of a letdown and was more about setting the pieces up for the next book. There was some repetition with some characters and what they were thinking and feeling from previous books (especially Jorge). I don't know that a rogue organization like the Authority would be able to control a large swath of the country with federal and state forces not being seen at all. It does set up for a major confrontation next book.
