I got this book out of my local library which is open now by appointment. Yes the cover pulled me in but I love this cookbook so much I’m going to buy my own copy and I don’t buy a lot of cookbooks. I’ve made several recipes and plan to make several more.
This hardcover edition had a spiral bind on it which helped with the layout. However, it was just like any other Taste of Home cookbook, only emphasizing freezing portions. Did not wow me but was o.k., and trusted recipes you know from them. Photos were nice.
-not really a meal planning book. only 6 pages to explain meal planning. the remaining 442 pages are just recipes.
-recipes i found interesting: pork noodle soup, sirloin stir-fry with ramen noodles, garlic and onion cashews, chia orange yogurt, peach stuffed french toast, shrimp and crab casserole with wild rice, polish casserole, chicken cordon bleu bake, sweet and spicy pineapple chicken sandwiches (the spicy comes solely from store-bought spicy barbecue sauce, easy to substitute out), broccoli-cheddar tassies, grilled buttermilk chicken, honey garlic green beans.

I know not everyone is on board with this book. But this is one of the few cookbooks I felt was right up my alley!
I could pronounce the names of the ingredients! I even own most of them! The recipes are things I would actually like to eat (well enough of them are)! I actually liked more then 60% of the recipes in this book!
Safe to say I may have, perhaps, absolutely bought this book to keep cause I ran out of renewals at my local library and had to give it back...and there were way too many good recipes in here to copy without totally mashing copyright laws.
It was a nice idea but a little chaotic.. I like that there were options for freezing and such, but the sections were all over the place. The amount of pages does not make up for the seeming lack of planning. I had this in my amazon cart but I don’t want it.
I liked the deserts. I have other go to recipes I use for other meals. I like to cook from scratch more. This is probably for someone who is needing more hand holding or who likes meals in a box that feel more homemade.
Recipes are okay though if you've read any other Taste of Home cookbooks, it seems like many of the recipes are repeats. Ignore the planning. The recipes are decent at least.
I am rarely disappointed by Taste of Home publications. It is real cooks, cooking from home, using real ingredients, producing comfort foods. This cookbook gave me several ideas in areas I was looking for inspiration, freezer meals, make ahead selections & crockpot cooking. The ONLY reason I didn't give it 4 stars was occasionally there was 1 picture across the divide & recipes on either side of it. In a few instances one had to do some digging to see which recipe went with the picture. Definitely worth the purchase price. I've already flagged 100+ recipes for near future consideration.
