L. Pichon says that when she was little, she loved to draw, and her mom said she was very good at making a mess (this is still true today). She kept drawing, went to art school, became a designer and art director at Jive Records, and began to publish children’s books. After its publication in the U.K., The Brilliant World of Tom Gates won several prestigious awards, including the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, the Waterstone’s Children’s Book Prize, and the Blue Peter Book Award. L. Pichon lives in Brighton, England, with her family.
Not entirely a book, it is half a story (about Tom's vacation) and half an activity book. While I did have fun reading it, quite a few of the activities aren't ones I can do as I got this book from the library. I also had expected a full story so I was slightly disappointed about it. Still, after a while I was looking forward to the activities and seeing what is next. For most I liked the crafts/creative things. I wasn't a fan of the one on how to do that table of 9. Plus, sorry I think that Tom should have a bit more respect for his sister. Instead of snooping what she is reading, not giving a fuck that Rooster is in her ROOM when she is allergic (I have an allergy too for feathers and cat/horse hair/dust/you know what and it is a PAIN and I get eczema, my asthma flairs up, and oh yes, my eyes feel like they hurt like hell, and some other things), making mean drawings. I also found it a bit mean of the parents to expect their daughter to just scrap her own FREE morning for her brother. I get that everyone needed to help out since one of the parents was an idiot with the date, but you daughter is in college and definitely deserves a bit of free time when she gets that. The ending was abrupt and sudden. I would have liked to see a bit more about that part because now it just feels cut-off as if someone forgot the next few pages. Not sure if I will be reading the next book, I don't know I am just getting less and less enthusiastic about this series. This being a lot of activities and less story is also not helping, though helping my decision for not continuing.
Tom is a boy who loves books, picnic and definitely his family but only he does not like is school. Toms sister Delia is grumpy and bossy she always doesn’t go anywhere with Tom well sometimes she goes. Tom is really smart but he hate school.
By far the worst Tom Gates book. To sum it up, It's a poor sequel to super good skills, with barely a story at all. There is so much wrong about this book that it makes be angry about it. The "ending" is a joke (literally), the amount of pages taken from other book (with the activities) was just lazy, and the story has as much depth as a puddle. Don't waste your money on it, it sucks.
Good ideas but I gave it 4 star because I could not figure out how to do the paper banger. The best idea was the picture frame but very less story.( Plus my name is Rishi and I am 9 years old)
El libro está muy chulo porque te cuenta la vida de Tom y además, lo mejor de todo, es que en el propio libro te da manualidades para hacer, y es muy original porque te cuenta la historia pero también te enseña cosas.
It wasn't really a story, I mean, like, there was story's but loads of crafts were in it, but I read at night so I couldn't read it properly. I loved the book, though.
Good book, Toms parents forgets it’s the holidays and he has to spend time at his cousins, friends and other places. He forgets it’s insect day on the next day. It’s a very short book.
A slightly less amusing one in this series, as this one is filled with lots of pages for doodling, as well as instructions on various art & craft or games, in which some of them appeared in other books before. Nevertheless, how Tom spent his half term break is quite amusing.
