As much as I love this author, these books were painful to read. It took me forever to get through these “beautiful “ women, who were in convents. Some were placed there by greedy relatives who wanted the family fortunes. Some were abandoned, some had always dreamed of being in the church. None had any physical flaws! The knights who rescued them were beautiful as well! No one had a overbite, a facial scar, a oddity of any kind. (Yawn) These perfect people fell into perfect love. It was hard to read and I often put it down and read many other things before I went back to it. This is not typical for me and this author. I can usually tear through a entire family tree with no problem.
First off; let me say, I LOVE Katheryn Le Veque stories. I have read MANY! Including almost all of the de Wolfe series. I am always able to connect with the "main character's" in her stories. THIS book was very boring & out of "touch" with my way of thinking.
I had already read the one story that was about one of the De Wolfe boys, so I skipped it. But I read every night to "wind down".. we moved the TV out of our bedroom years' ago & I love reading good stories that I eventually fall asleep reading on my Kindle & the hubby puts it up. But for some reason, I would read 6-8 pages and wake up realizing I barely read anything. I had to "back read" to see where I REALLY fell asleep reading the night prior.
All the women are in convents for one reason or another.. they all have been abandoned or wanted to be in service of the Church. I can say I actually liked the story lines, but the characters didn't "do anything" for me. Kinda boring..sorry. AGAIN.. these are the first (3) stories of Ms. Le Veque's that I really didn't like.. it was painful to read...I think it's better to stick with one "story" at a time.. even when they continue on the same family/blood lines.
Absolutely fantastic book. Kathryn at her best. The first 2 stories in the book were very good but I could at least pause if I was overtired or needed a short breather from reading. The last 2, especially the last one, I couldn't put down unless I had no other choice like my kindle died or I literally fell asleep. Totally riveting and really had no idea what would happen next until you read. Also, has serious has subject was w Bretten's emotional baggage, the story gave me some of the best chuckles in the entire book. Not only between Allaston and Brett but also between her father and his contemporaries. The second last book was similar w it's humour but to be honest the power of the last 2 stories has totally knocked out my memory of the first although I remembered I enjoyed them very much but I can't remember them has I write this since I found the last 2 stories so powerful
These have been the most amazing stories. I loved the way in which Aliston and Bretton came together. A very powerful and intriguing story and towards the ending the tears were running down my face. I book I didn’t want to put down. I look forward to more from Kathryn.
I enjoyed all the stories about the young girls designated to be nuns. Who would have thought that life could become so complicated and challenging for these young ladies. Kathryn Lee Veque portrays the nuns, each with their own exciting story. You will not be disappointed!
Every book in this set gets a 5 star rating. This is my first meeting with Kathryn but will not be the last. I like her writing style, all characters are completely defined so you never lose them in the story. This collection is a good way to spend hours immersed in a very good story.
I have enjoyed this book. All four were good stories. They all had challenges to overcome but in the end they fell in love. I never knew my ancestors but my 8 th great grandfather was married in Bath, England in that beautiful church. AncestryDNA says he was a minister. Interesting stories.
I only read the first story, it was okay. I wasn’t a big fan of the writing style and these all seem to be parts of several series that would probably be easier read in order. It was a bit long and parts drawn out. I just didn’t feel like going on.
Great characters with plenty of romance. Each revolves around women who lived in convents and strong alphas who take them for their wives. Each story had different plots while dealing with situations that are different. Lots of action. Loved it!
I thoroughly enjoyed Le Veque's Nunnery Brides collection. She developed the relationships well, she has appealing characters, and she seems to have great fun writing her stories. I like that. I could definitely recommend this collection to historical romance lovers.
They were all such great stories I just do not know how to write about all of them. But I must say that the last one was the most heart wrenching I have read of Kathryn's stories. I have read about a dozen of them.
Amazing medieval romance linking all the great warriors with cettain past and future that will keep you wondering what will happen to other characters and their stories.
This book told of four knights and their nunnery brides. Each was from a different series but some of the characters were in all these stories. A lot of plotting and action and three romances
Second time I have read these stories and still enjoyed them. My favorite author always comes through even when it’s the second reading. Thanks for the wonderful stories Kathryn Le Veque.
An excellent book with a few stories in it. The storylines and characters are wonderful. They are stories of romance and adventure. There is sex scenes in the stories.
I was pretty sure this was my first reading of Knighthawk, but the battle between Patrick and the Dane warrier I have read elsewhere. Either case, Patrick's story is so heart warming and I think after the first three de Wolfe novels my favorite. I loved reading about William and Kieran and Paris, my favorite knights. Patrick does have a little of each inside him. Thank you for Patrick's story.
Enjoyed these stories very much. Love all of Kathryns books. The last one was difficult to read at times due to the violent nature of Brettan, but I stayed with the story and was surprised by the ending.
Dark Steel. Sir Dane de Russe is forced to make a promise to a dying man. The man was the Duke of Shrewsbury, and he wants Dane to protect his daughter and his Dukedom. There is only one way that is acceptable.
Lady Grier de Lara has spent the last fourteen years shut away in a convent, always believing she will eventually become a nun. The news that she is an heiress and about to be married doesn't go down well.
Our honourable and battle hardened warrior never dreamt he would reach these dizzy heights. Our neglected and nervous heroine is in for a very steep learning curve.
There is an unstable man that will cause everyone heartache.
I managed to get through this story with only a little cry. A marvellous love story, that you can't help but get involved in. The characters are as usual fantastic it's great to meet the families of our heroes from previous books. Our author always manages to bring something fresh to each book.
I have read lots of her books and loved all of them. I am eagerly waiting for the next one.
NightHawke Sir Patrick de Wolfe is the commander of Berwick castle. He has been told a band of Scottish rievers have attacked nearby and taken a captive. This rescue will be no problem. The problems start afterwards. His actions could cause trouble for the whole family with the church and the King.
Brighton de Favereux was a bastard, left at the priory as an infant. Why would anyone want to abduct her now?.
A wonderful story full of adventure, danger and deep love. There are huge battles and soft family moments. Our larger than life hero is the sort of the man any woman would want. Even if he is a tiny bit arrogant. Our sweet heroine is scared and confused, with good reason. The de Wolfe family and their connections will be familiar to anyone who has read this author's work before. They are all wonderfully strong and well written characters. It is always a pleasure to visit with them. I loved every page, as usual.
By The Unholy Hand. Sir Maxton of Loxbeare is one of England's most skilled Knights. Since the end of the Crusades he and his friends have been mercenaries, sometimes taking jobs nobody else could do. However there is a line he will not cross.
Lady Andressa du Bose has been sent to a convent by her Aunt , so the woman can use her inheritance. The convent has an evil Mother Superior. Her nuns live in constant fear and hunger.
This is a fantastic book, absolutely filled with political intrigue, danger and great characters. Our hero is not a good man but he seems to be growing a conscience. Our terrified heroine seems timid, but has got nerves of steel.
I won't say too much more about the plot because I don't want to spoil it for you. Just know that before you start reading you should make sure you lock everybody out and make yourself comfortable, because you will NOT be able to put it down. I was awake until 1:30am to finish it.
I loved every page and can't wait to read the next in the series.
Devil´s Dominion.
The sins of the father are definitely a burden for the children in this story.
Our "hero" is a particularly nasty man. He is copying the pattern of the man who tore his family and everything he knew from him when he was a small child. It's taken him twenty-five years to be strong enough. Nothing will stop him now.
Lady Allaston De Velt decided when she was twelve to become a nun, but fate it seems has other ideas. She has heard the tales of her father's past deeds but now she will see for herself the consequences of them.
How our author get us to feel sorry for the "monsters" some of her heroes are is a wonder in itself. She gives us a lot of gory details that some might find hard to read, but are essential to the story. It is an emotional story especially near the end. Families can give us the greatest heartbreak and the greatest joy. We get both here. We also meet up with quite a few heroes from other books by this author, but not with details that would spoil their books if you haven't read them yet.
I bought a boxed set with this the only book of the four that I didn't already have. It was more than worth it. The set is called "The Nunnery Brides" and they are all great full length books.
This author has never disappointed me and I have read over thirty of her books in the last several years. I buy them now without even reading the blurb because I know I will love it. But I do have to check my records to see if I already have it because she's changed her covers for much nicer ones, so I sometimes think it's one that escaped me.
Rather cruel depiction of live and war during the 1200's. The collection of stories were based on women who were postulates that were abducted from the abbey or betrothed without their knowledge. It shows compassion and redemption towards those knights who killed everyone upon capturing the various castles. The stories manage to have happy endings
While the first book in this collection (Dark Steel) was at least a 3.5* for me, the stories went downhill from there, to the last book of the four (Devil's Dominion) that I couldn't even finish - one star would be generous. The kind of story where the "hero" burns a group of women alive right at the beginning is not redeemable for me.
This was more than brutal in many instances but readable and well incorporated in the story. It was not quite enjoyable but very readable and satisfying in the end.
