The Demon Academy #1

Sinful as Hell

Rate this book
This academy is like no other…

My name is Lexi Cameron and until three weeks ago, I thought I was human.
It was all a lie.
I’m a demon, and I’m signed up to attend The Demon Academy.
I soon find out it’s the darkest, cruellest school around and not many survive a full year, let alone three.
Welcome to DA, where unless you are a high demon, you can expect to be treated like trash.
My plan?
To be invisible and get the hell out of this academy, but it doesn’t work out that way…

I have one angel teacher trying to get rid of me, the students of DA making sure I know what a demon can do and I’m not going to survive Demon Academy for long.

That is until the Lucifer sons see me.
They want to break me,
they love to play games with my heart,
and even if I wanted to run from them…I can’t.
I’m apparently their mate.

And just like their father’s home, hell can’t be escaped.

Wow, okay- there's a lot to unpack here so I'm going to do it in a list format.

1. Adverb usage. You get used to it, but that doesn't make it a good thing. There's a lot of: "'Thank you,' she said gratefully." Which I'm not gonna lie, really hurts my soul.
2. Chapter titles. The mc is constantly using fun colorful language, but all of the chapter titles use the word "flipping." Like,,, ma'am, you and I both know that ain't it.
3. Teacher as a love interest. Kill me.
4. Pacing and emotion. There's a lot of flawed character reactions. For example, our mc fears for her life and then less than half a page later is chillin but tells us that she's shaken. There's no showing here, only telling. I have a feeling if the author dwelled more on her characters' emotions and let them properly react the too quick pacing would fix itself.
5. Racism???? Like, Jesus, for the love of god, if I have to see another werewolf/"animal" race be the only dark skinned characters in a book again I'm gonna stab someone. Also: weird eugenics correlation??? What the fuck.
6. Some of the main love interests were introduced waaaay too late, like halfway through the book. Y'all can argue all you want but that's just wrong, unless the author did that to make a point (which she did not, and if she did it would be Far too late now).
7. The book changes perspective for A Single Chapter 17 chapters in with no warning. This would not have been an issue if it was pre-established, but it was not. (BONUS: Our mc doesn't wear a dress she's told to and she is described as "wild and untamable")
8. Stilted dialogue. It just didn't sound natural. I'm convinced the author was afraid of contractions.
9. Javier is an Adam Sandler fan.
10. The Lucifer brothers keep reminding us that they were brought up with humans but none of their actions reflect this ever??
11. Weird slut shaming and homophobia? Both of which are just naturalized? This book is also guilty of throwing in a random gay friend who is there all of twice and calling that diversity.
12. A multitude of things described as "sexy" which just cannot be sexy? I just,,, I know it's a romance novel, and I read a lot of bad romance novels, but?? You can't?? Just call anything?? Sexy??

Alright, that's my list folks. I read this book in about 6 hours (which I guess says something?) but oh boy was it a ride.

Such a weird ass ending, ugh.

Sinful as Hell was a pretty good book. It did get a little weird towards the end though and I'm a smidge confused as to what the heck book two is going to give me. Then again, it is G. Bailey and she does like to confuse me with her cliffhangers.

In this book, you will meet Lexi. Now she's a demon.. but she doesn't know she's a demon. Until they day she sort of gets kidnapped and sent to school. This whole DA, demon academy, was kind of lame. It didn't really give me school vibes but maybe more like lame summer camp? I don't know it is hard to explain I guess.

Along the way, there's some sexual tension between her and her "harem". It seems a bit unique because right now it looks 3 demons, one angel, and a wolf? No idea how this is all going to work.. especially the whole 3 demon thing - you'll have to read it to believe it. I'm thinking that maybe one of them isn't her true mate.. or I'm hoping.

Other than that, it was an okay book. Definitely want more so I need the next book ASAP.

I practically salivated at the thought of reading this book when I saw the blurb. Boy, was I disappointed. All the characters were walking contradictions. Claus and Nik were supposedly raised by human foster parents but were evil overlords. Morgan-something is a dark angel? I don't understand why an angel would teach in a demon academy, but okay. I'm not even going to explain how problematic that a teacher had the hots for his student, no matter how young the author tried to make him seem. Javier, I didn't understand how he fit in this story, except that he's a member of the harem? How does he even have access to the school premises??

Don't get me started on Lucifer. I saw that coming from the moment she encountered 'Luc' who she never thought about again. Um, what? And that damned cat??? Also her parents were supposed to be on trial for murder and she barely thought about them at all, instead it seemed my girl was tripping over a hot guy's abs every other page.

The conversations are expected and boring. I liked that the teachers could kill the students, (I mean it's demon academy) it was unexpected and different. But everything thing else was wack. I'm torn between continuing to the second book or just ending it here.

Sinful as Hell is barely put together enough to feel like it's making sense beyond the obvious things it wants to include.

The plot is there somewhere but it's treated with sub par attitude. Reactions to situations makes no sense in this book. The chick has a great relationship with her parents, they work as a family and you show me that she goes on with the academy life with just brief mentions of wanting to meet her parents to the extend that makes it feel like she ends up forgetting about them fucking locked up most of the time. Then there is the academy thing, no immersive class scenes, no exploring more of the demon side stuff to show action and a slave thing going on that's hella weird.

The romance is just nonsense. The bullying part is nothing but being shoved by a teacher who is going to be in her harem and the sons of Lucifer are having barely two scenes of them insulting her before they are on the mate bandwagon. There is also a shifter who keeps sneaking in the academy.. how? and where the fuck he goes when he leaves? No answers.

The characters are shallow, Lucifer's sons were the most anticlimactic LI characters I have ever read, the blurb builds up the expectations to something that left me disappointed with what I did get. There is barely anything from them and even less from Morgan and Javier. Lexi is a forgettable female lead, even the cat was more interesting.

The book had some idea it wanted to build on but it doesn't give enough for a first book to hook me in and then it loses me completely at the bland ass characters that lack in showing any of the development the story is telling me about.

I know what I kind of book is this when I picked it up. Nevertheless, I'm going to point out things that I found disturbing.

1. The MC's parents are in jail and there's a possibility they're going to get a death sentence. But Alexandria doesn't act like it really matters. Sure, she was worry but it was nothing compared to how many times she met a guy and think he's hot. Duh.

2. There's this confusing teacher, Morgan, that's described as rude and easily angered. I can understand if other teachers were cruel even to the point they're killing their students, this is The Demon Academy, you can't possibly get flowers and rainbows. But Morgan acted as he cared and then he became cold in the next second. So we have a teacher-student relationship but in the most complicated way.

3. Please, I really wish for Sera to get more exposure in the next book. Because, as Alexandria's best friend, she deserves more. I feel like she only exists to support Alexandria solely.

So why 3 stars?

The ending was unsatisfying. There are so many questions in my head and I need to read the next book because I think some characters are interesting to get to know more since everyone seems to like to have a hidden motive. I enjoyed this book, it's an easy read to pass the time.

OMG I'm so tired of Good reads not saving my reviews because it took me too long to write the dang thing. Give me a break here! This will be the second time I'll write this one so.. yea..

I always feel like starting a G. Bailey series is an adventure and to be honest I never know till about 1/2 way through whether or not it will be a hit or miss for me. Sometimes I feel like she is picturing the scenes in her mind so fast that she has difficulty getting everything down, which causes some of the stories to be super rushed and just missing something. But all the series aren't always missing the same thing so its not like its a purposeful thing.

I started out excited to see G. Bailey join in the fray on the bully romance bandwagon.. but I found myself really loosing patience and even my temper with this school and its.. heroes? I think this may be because not just the MC's have it out for our FMC but the entire environment is incredibly hostile as well. Lexi our FMC finds out she is a demon and is thrust into the dark side at Demon Academy. Her unique abilities as well as her familial history instantly puts her under the spot light. Lexi's mission is to free her parents from prison, but as she learns more and more she gathers the attention of not only Lucifer's three sons but also Lucifer himself.. which is never a good thing.

All in all I'd like to see where this is headed but the whole feel is pretty rushed so far. Lexi herself is a little on the naive side at this point but maybe once we see where the massive cliffhanger ends we can get her wizened up. Not in a huge rush to continue but its definitely on my list to keep an eye on.

The premise was interesting enough but the book fell painfully flat. The main character was so odd. Her reactions always felt a little off, right from the start of the book and throughout. The book just never felt like a smooth read. Probably with a bit of polishing and editing it would be great. There is potential there. As it is... I probably won't be continuing the series.

She has a super secret mark on her body that she's not supposed to show anyone - she never once mentions it except once when she accidentally shows someone. We never come to find out what the mark looks like. We never get a good description of the main character either. The book falls into the usual trope of the main character absolutely beautiful but doesn't know it. It also falls prey to the trope of "really beautiful blonde girls have it out for her because they're jealous that she has so much male attention even though she doesn't know why". This is the MOST common trope for these kinds of books and it feels so lazy. Somebody marks her arm - she is warned that if anybody were to notice then she would be killed. She then proceeds to not mention it again throughout the book and go to a dance in a revealing dress. Nobody notices or says anything. There's just little inconsistency errors all over the place. Meh.

DNF at 24%. The writing drove me too crazy to focus on the story. It just felt like something written by a seventh grade girl, and I couldn’t get that feeling out of my mind. The main character was very childish in her thoughts, despite her supposed age, and the descriptions seemed to jump around. It just drove me nuts and even though I pushed myself to keep reading, it was too much work. It reminded me of books I used to read from the kid’s section, like Sweet Valley High or Goosebumps. Not my style.

Disappointing

The plot was interesting enough but the story falls flat. The romantic ties for Lexi and her harem of fellas is really thin. The attraction is there but the story misses so much depth of relationship building. The ending is so off the rails that I don't even know if I care how it continues because it's so weird.

The premise of this story is so stupid. I’m sorry if that sounds a little rude but it’s stupid and I’m tired of seeing the word “fuck” everywhere. It’s redundant. Writing is not up to par with this book and I don’t like the main character Alexandra. Just not my cup of 🍵

Lexi Cameron thought being human was hard. Being a demon at the brutal Demon Academy is way worse. With cruel classmates, an angelic teacher out to get her, and the sons of Lucifer claiming her as their mate, survival seems impossible. But Lexi's got sass, grit, and just enough fire to take on Hell itself.

Packed with tension, danger, and irresistible bad boys, Sinful As Hell is a steamy, action-packed ride you won't want to put down.

Hell never looked so good or so dangerous.

Oh boy,smh. I’m disappointed.
I’ve always loved reading books by this author because the stories have really great lead and supporting characters and it’s always so well written. When you find an author who writes books with the best blend of snark and all the funnies and with a good plot and characters, you expect that all the time. I didn’t think it was possible for G Bailey to write a book that was lacking in any way; so naturally, when I read the blurb almost two months ago, I was crazy excited! I honestly couldn’t wait to read this. Can you imagine my surprise when I started reading the book and found that it was just blah? There were soooo many grammatical errors and don’t get me wrong, I’m not dumping on the whole book because of that but damn, when you add that to the fact that the book read terribly unnatural, things start looking badly.
I think the story has so much potential. It’s overall basis was great; I liked the idea that the author was going with, I just hated how it came together.. The prose that was used in the book was so stiff, almost formal like. Who speaks like that? I like to think that a book should read in the same way that we speak. Except in those instances where the prose reflects a particular dialect or something... for example, if the characters were Scottish or Irish or idk, Jamaican! I mean come on! You are an awesome author! What went wrong? Half of the characters felt like they were inconsistent to me; Claus and Nick moved from mean boys to protective, fawning idiots in the space of like two seconds! We’re introduced to Claus as the hot head and Nick as the quiet one but their personalities flip in again what feels like a hot minute. The character development is waaaaaayyyy off. The mean girls were lame, Lucifer’s sons were boring and for a school where you can be killed for losing a text book, our heroine certainly glided right through everything. I kept waiting for something to happen to make the story better but nothing ever did. It was kind of a drag. I mean don’t get me wrong, I liked some things but I mostly disliked stuff more and it was all stuff that could easily be fixed. I liked Morgan and Sera and even Javier (until the end...kind of). Their character personalities were consistent but I didn’t really like anyone else. And like I said at the start, I really fucking hate how the book read. It was quite frankly, annoying.
I’m not gonna lie, I’m really disappointed that this is how the story turned out and if I’m being honest with you, I had every intention of reading the whole series (naturally) but I’m not so sure anymore. If I do end up reading the next book it would just be to see if it was better written than this one.

I enjoy a good demon read, and Gem has come up with a twist on this one. But we have a start to a good series, that will keep you entertained with funny main characters, a great plot and fast paced story.

Here we have a human girl named Alexandria, who just so happens to find out that she is indeed not human. When she turns 18 she is supposed to grow into her powers. Her parents are taken and charged with killing 5 demons. So until her parents trial she is sent to the Demon Academy. Everything is so sudden for her. The discovery of Demons, that she is one, and then that her parents are killers apparently. Add to the fact being sent to a school of Demons. There she meets a teacher, a dark angel named Morgan. Yes sparks fly from the start between them. She also draws the attention of Lucifer's twin sons Claus and Nick. And then just throw in a wolf shifter named Javier and she definitely has her hands full. Here she must learn to survive in this brutal new world. This is where the adventure begins or maybe ends for her.

Sinful as Hell is defintaly eye catching. From everywhere to the story line, to the characters, to the plot. We are sent on a roller coaster ride of learning everything just like the female lead. The guys of course are all very yummy, and honestly i like them all. The twins are kinda bad but I admit i like them! This defintely promises to be a great series, maybe even my favorite of Gem's yet!

In the fist half of the series, this author shows lots of magic and gives lots of powers. Creates a "special" MC in her social scenario, that lately she would not handle. So the MC will lose most of her powers and some of the guys will too. So all the reasons that made you hang on to see, will just vanish.

It's like Bailey knows what we like and what we want to read, but she doesn't want to really work anything, so she builds to take away so she can write the solutions more easily. That's the second series i read that has this pattern. Feels lazy and it feels like a coup she uses like a formula. Her whole point is hold us to frustrate us.

How much long can you keep this Bailey? My only remaining wonder about your work.

I loved this book. It's a great start to a new series. It's set in a demon academy.. do I really need to say more than that? As soon as I saw that I was like, YES PLEASE!

Lexi has always thought she was human. So it was just a bit of a surprise when her parents are accused of murdering demons.. oh and that Lexi herself is a demon. She is thrown into this cruel world... one that she has to quickly learn how to manage. She does of course meet some men along the way.

I cannot wait to see what happens next!

G Bailey is an amazing story teller and this book is no different. Demon Academy is everything you want in an Academy book, a gorgeous heroine with inner strength who is yet to discover her full potential, 4 alpha males who you just hope are going to be in her harem and the ultimate bad guy. Throw in a world that has been built to perfection to intrigue the reader and you have Sinful As Hell . The tension is incredible. I devoured this far too quickly and am panting for the next one.

Fantastic paranormal academy book

Werewolves, dark angels and demons oh my..... This book was fabulous, loved the different characters, and that bombshell at the end, sexual tension with malcom was hot, the Lucifer boys - do I need to say more than that and Javier the alphas son what a great combination of love interests. Cannot wait to read more, it was fab reading about a demon with a conscience and good morals trying to survive in a school specifically for demons.

DNF. I think I got 38% and I just couldn’t handle it. The dialogue made me think a child wrote it. There was no smooth flow it felt super disjointed and the main character had no depth. It was all surface tension. Which sucks since G Baileys books are usually pretty good.

I want to be clear that each chapter separately is fine. The writing is captivating. My problem is the execution. I don't understand how a girl who has been human all her life can ease into her life at Demon Academy. Lexi is the daughter of two demons who end up being arrested for having run away and stealing 5 souls, allegedly. Lexi experiences seeing death, necromancy, and other heinous crimes and yet is still as sane as ever.

Love...is there love? Claus and Nikoli are apparently Lexi's mates. She gets caught up and shown a hex circle of humans who are bleeding out and Claus and Nikoli both claim her as theirs. Mr. Morganarch who is a demon on probation at DA is her teacher but he has feelings for her. Javier is the son of the werewolf and he is also her mate and claims her too. My problem is that Lexi is their mate and yet there is little to no chemistry between her and each guy. Claus and Nikoli grew up with foster parents on Earth and only spent three years with Lucifer and yet they are bad boys and kill people all the time. Mr. Morganarch and Lexi probably have the strongest connection because they have private sessions to train together.

The lack of environmental awareness is sorely lacking. Sure, I know about that Lucifer statue because it was mentioned so many times, but there is never a point in time when Lexi can go outside because it puts her parents in danger. She fears for her parents but not for her own wellbeing and she trusts too easily. Lexi's interactions with other students is little to nothing. There is also never a time when Lexi is in a communal setting that isn't classes or the ball.

The biggest shockers for me was finding out that Luc, from the very beginning of the book, is Lucifer who is apparently her mate. Lilith is posing as her cat, Amethyst.

The book doesn't pick up until about 37% of the way in.

I am currently reading the second book and I want to give a heads up that Lexi has these strong feelings for Claus and Nikoli and how they have "changed" but she has only been there for a month or so? Like, how would they have changed. Also, what are these strong feelings? It really feels disconnected.

I had read this story previously before it was out on audio and I liked the book, but I think the audio really brought it to life. I think G Bailey finally got back to her true writing self with this series, some of her others had kinda veered off a bit, but this one definitely hit the mark. I think she gave enough details and really created this amazing world that I am eager to continue reading/listening.

For the story, we meet Lexi who has a lot of crap going on in her life and it seems to always be shuffling/unstable to say the least. She does her best to navigate the Demon Academy and figure out who is friend and who is foe at school. I love her guys in this one, some more than others. I think Klaus is adorable, even if he can be posh and snobby. I think Javier is going to destroy my heart, and I think Morgan is going to be the biggest to fall for Lexi. I am undecided with Nikolai, but I am starting book 2 tonight so it might change haha. I loved the cliffhanger in this story, I mean I have my thoughts on where its going to go, but I like the big baddie in the story and how deplorable he already is. G Bailey didnt hold back, she made us a very true bad guy, some amazing tension and heat, and lovely world building/relationships with the side characters. I love Lexi and her wolf bff, they are adorable. I was shocked by the kitty cat, nice touch 😉

For the narration, this was my first listen of Lauren Sweet and I very much enjoyed her rendition. I think her strength lies with the ladies (she does a superb job with Amethyst, Lexi, and the horrible mean girls haha). I love her voice for the Lucifer boys. I think her weaker moments were with Morgan, but I think it was because the accent wasn't always consistent. I definitely give her two thumbs up, there wasn't a lot for me to nitpick, which is saying a lot! Adding her to my narrator list and already diving into book 2.

Recommend, great start to this RH series by G Bailey ❤️❤️❤️

I love this twist on Angels and Demons

I’ve never been a die hard academy troupe fan but I absolutely loved this book!! It has your typical elements most academy books have such as bullying of the main character and her being an outcast. I wouldn’t consider the love interests as being bullies towards Lexi but one of them is definitely your typical brooding jerk because he doesn’t like the feelings he feels towards her. Those are my favorite characters especially when they just accept their feelings!! 😍😍

The whole storyline was captivating from the start until that ending!! By the end of this book, the drama and plot has definitely thickened and raised more questions to be answered as the series continues. While a few questions were answered, we are still left wondering a few things like exactly why her parents fled, why her demon connection is so strong this young, and the purpose of her familiar Amethyst.

The story all flowed really well and never dragged on in any parts. There wasn’t any context errors or continuity issues that I had noticed. All the characters were detailed and easily decipherable between each other. They each have their own personality that continued throughout the entire book and never wavered or accidentally got mixed up by the author.

It will be interesting to see how the harem is built as the series continues. As of right now, it seems like only Nick and Claus are her mates. But the attraction between Morgan and Javier is obvious so I’m curious if they will end up being with her as the series continues. After that ending though, it seems as though no one but one specific person will be her mate.

I’m super excited to finish this series and read the spin off. I highly recommend this book to lovers of slow burn RH, Academy, angels and demons, and fated mates.

This was a fun, quick read and exactly what I needed right now!

Lexi finds out she’s a demon and ends up at the Demon Academy.
Her parents are on trial for murder.
There’s some big secret about her upbringing that we don’t understand yet.
Two of her mates are sons of Lucifer.
She has raging sexual tension with her hot angel teacher.
Not to mention, some an alpha wolf has a thing for her.
HELL. YES.
Off to a yummy start.

Then we have Luc himself, who is also claiming Lexi is his mate???
Dude came out of the woodwork with that one!
Bit weird considering his sons are clearly mated to her too; and don’t get me wrong, I’m NEVER opposed to a little father /son bonding in the harem but I don’t believe that will be the case here.

Based on the end of the book, when we find out that Lexi’s cat (aka her not-so familiar, familiar), is actually Lilith herself, it becomes clear that Lexi has a bigger purpose.
This is sure to become apparent when her demon is eventually unleashed, which I know is going to be nothing short of gruesome and spectacular all at once.
She also has that angel mark, making me predict she’s a mix of the two (that would also make sense for her being mated to the twins with their mixed blood).
Then she saw herself with a flaming crown, probably related to her mating with Lucifers twins and their future reign.
We will see how it progresses though!

I did get bully vibes in the beginning, especially with Morgan but I wish I didn’t switch to such an insta-love situation so quickly.
Lexi is not giving in exactly but the guys are chasing her like lost demon puppies; it’s giving the opposite of bully romance by the end but I digress.
Let’s hope Morgan sticks to his guns a bit.

~4 stars~

Liked: Amethyst/Lilith was my favorite(which is why the 2 stars), though I suspected early on that it was Lilith.

Disliked: It was so underwhelming. The conversations were so common(you've heard all of it before). The writing style did not feel as engaging as I would have liked it to be.
Every so-called twist could be seen from the second you start the book.(I mean, we all know who 'Luc' is the second he is first introduced). Would not really classify anything else as a 'twist' per se.
She really does not seem too torn up about her parents or have any conflicting emotions about simultaneously having the hots for everyone. Any emotions that were shown were to transient and like an afterthought.
For my personal taste, there was very little world building, I couldn't really get invested in most of the characters or enjoy the vibe. I mean, it's a Demon Academy, I expected so much more in terms of details!
I personally would have liked to see Sera a bit more. She felt like an anchor in the book that was not explored to its full extent. Maybe the other books in the series would show more of her?!
I guess this book is more of a stepping stone to the rest of the series where the actual story unfolds but I think if she just spent a bit more time with the first book it would not feel so weirdly rushed. It's only 190 something pages, the writer could have added 50 more pages if it allowed them to spend time on some of these characters that we are supposed to care for.

Overall: A 2-star read for me(because Amethyst reminds me of the cat I had growing up).

Sorry, I have very little that I enjoyed about the book!

Lexi is in for a shock. Her parents are demons which means she is a demon. They committed murder and stole 5 souls....or did they? All Lexi knows is that she loves her parents despite them keeping important things from her. They are imprisoned and until the trial she has to attend Demon Academy to bring out her demon and be able to control it and learn about her new world. Easy right? Then she meets some interesting guys who are wanting to kill her at first sight. They are definite sexy a-holes but there is definitely something else at work. Will Lexi survive her first year AND save her parents from death? Will the men she is drawn too kill her or will she kill them?

New author for me and it was actually pretty good! A few editing errors but not a big deal 3-4 throughout the book. This kept my attention from beginning to end. It was a fast read and not too long about 140-160 pages I think. I really liked Lexi because she did not fall for BS. She is a very strong and knows her own mind. She bows to nobody and makes no apologies for it. I also like that she doesnt jump into bed with the guys at first sight it takes her awhile to even like/warm up to them. I like that about her. She isnt giving it up until they deserve and earn it. Lucifer's twins, Nikolai and Claus, dark angel Morgan, and alpha wolf Javier. Her bestie Sera is awesome. Lets not forget her talking cat Amethyst....who I dont think is a cat at all. Anyways, I enjoyed this and excited to read more.
