Senescence: The Ashes of Youth

Rate this book
Senescence is the fresh new Techno-thriller that asks the question: 'What happens if you discover something that changes everything?'
“There’s no way of looking at these results apart from that they’re amazing… Remarkably good…” Dr. Helen Thursley is convinced that her discovery in an inhospitable mountain lake is the key to a great medical breakthrough. Helen does not yet realise just how right she is, and how much her discovery will mean for those around her…
“I'm not going to win 'owt writing about Michelle and her footballer husband eating lobster tails at Saikpura’s….” Journalist Will Kearney was cut out for better things, but nobody pays for investigative and scientific journalism any more, particularly not the few remaining editors at the Manchester Daily Chronicle. It’s all court write-ups and celebrity gossip these days. Or is it…?
“It’s getting late and Tom Hoth should be in a bar by now rather than under the blueish tinged lights of the brown brick 1980s University library building…”Tom is deep into his undergraduate degree when he comes across Helen’s doctoral thesis, he can’t believe that such a brilliant mind could disappear so quickly from research circles, and he determines to track her down…
“Today is a great day my friend, for I feel that we have finally turned a corner with this company…” Sir Piers Solomon, pinnacle of nepotistic capitalism, has just taken the biggest gamble of his life. He cannot, he will not see it fail…
"This has happened faster than I could have hoped. Such influence that this capitalist machine has over things, snap their fingers and bang… It happens. It happens just like that. Money talks…” Eldon Parr is an old man, he has dedicated his life to serving Queen and country. All he wants now is his reward, but he does not appreciate just how much he is going to have to pay for it.
Watch the characters from across the generations clash in a whirlwind adventure that strips each to their core and forces them to ask: What is it that I really want out of life? And what am I prepared to do to get it?

As the author is a friend I wont star rate it as im clearly biased.
Set around Manchester and in the pharmaceutical industry, two things i know pretty well. Each local reference gave me a smile.
Great story into what could transpire if the ultimate discovery happened. This will do nothing to quieten big pharma conspiracy theorists!
