This is a very different book written by Samantha Price. Heidi is not sure that she wants to remain Amish even though she has a boyfriend named Derek and a loving family. She has always wanted to become a model and decides to leave the community for New York. There is a turning point in her life when she gets on the bus to leave for New York. Her parents disown her even though some Amish families welcome their children back for visits after they left the community. Heidi is very successful and does not become a model but becomes a top selling real estate agent. She has everything that money can buy except for a family. She has been given her grandmothers diary and she loves to read about her adventures. One night when she is reading the diary she falls asleep and the next day she is back in the Amish community. She finds herself married to Derek with three children. This is overwhelming for her and she tries to find a way to get back to New York. The book switches back-and-forth and finally she makes her decision as to what she wants to do.
I have never read an Amish book quote like this one. How do you mix scifi & Amish-ness? Well, you should consider reading this to find out.
Without adding spoilers, I can tell you that the events seem to involve a diary written by the protagonist's grandmother. The grandmother was sent on a trip to visit several friends & relatives when she was 20, because she was "spoiled," having no skills at cooking or household management. The truth was, she was a premie, & her health was fragile at the time & for a good while after, so she wasn't taught, nor did her mother & older sisters allow her to try. The trip became an opportunity for her to prove them wrong. She learned very quickly how to manage.
At the time the protagonist os reading this, she is a long way from her roots. An inadvertent trip or dream, it's hard to say which, interrupts her life twice. She is not sire which life she likes more, the dream or alternate life or the one she's in.
At some point she makes a decision & enters the life she wanted. She gets a second chance.
Like I said, it is an unusual book that could make anyone of any age think. I believe it is well worth reading.
This book was an easy an interesting read but was a little confusing with Heidi going back and forth between two different worlds. Also, the journal she was reading of her grandma in italics could have been better left out of the book.
Samantha Price is one of my favorite Amish book authors. I wasn't a huge fan of this book. I glossed over a lot of it. I liked the premise, but it was Sligh confusing at first. It has potential, but overall it isn't one of my favorites.
Heidi left her Amish community and her boyfriend years ago to be a model. Alas, she was too short! So she became a very successful real estate agent. But her life felt empty. Reading her grandmother’s journal and falling asleep, she had a very vivid dream. Or did it real happen? She was again Amish, married, with three kids. But she missed her English life even while she reveled in her married, Amish life. So back she goes, in the same manner as before. But she again feels like something - or someone - is missing from her life. What to do? If this sounds a bit like Nicholas Cage’s movie, “The Family Man,” you wouldn’t be wrong. It’s an interesting concept. The characters in this story are likable and well written, and the story is quite entertaining. If you could alter a major decision in your life that would change everything in your life now, would you want to? Unlike Heidi, in real life, there is no going back. Maybe that’s what makes this fiction tale so delightful.
I really enjoyed this story. It's a different kind of Amish story which made it a unique and refreshing read. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like it but kept reading then I couldn't put it down. It left me looking back at some of the choices I made wondering if I could go back and choose differently how would my life be different? I recommend this book.
I was given this ARC to review giving my honest opinion.
This story was a great read! Samantha done well with this beautiful Christmas story. Could you imagine being in Heidi's shoes? What would you do if your life changed after you went to sleep one night, then woke up as a completely different person & life? The craziness, alone, would get to me. Lol Could you imagine trying to explain a situation such as this? This story is very exciting and full of love! A great Christmas story for the season!! Grab your copy today.
This book is definitely an original story, like all of her wonderful books! Each of Samantha Price's books is so different and enjoyable! I haven't stopped reading them - I yearn for the next story each time I reach the end of her books. I found this one extra-special. (I received a review copy of this book.)
Heidi owns a realtors company in new York very successful. She reads her grandmother's diary and goes back to the amish life she would have had if she hadn't left. Very good characters good story line. Good ending

Cute story about a woman who discovers what her life might be like had she chosen an alternate path for her life. Did she take the path of realtor in NYC or the path of mom in an Amish community?
A romance book that travels between two time zones. Which zone will Heidi want to remain in changes throughout the book. Thanks to Samantha Price and her publisher.
Heidi, wondering what to do to make the office personal happy. Janelle was a key worker, feeling others weren't pulling their weight, so be it. Her interest was in Scott and the christmas party This was the life Heidi wanted, but being alone for Christmas, made memories come forth. Pulling out her grandmother's dairy, which she hadn't had time to read before. And now knowing that the true love, she had with Derek, money couldn't buy. A parallel time shows her the life with Derek, three children, and life in the community. Which one is the true reality, and the one she wants.Samantha did a good job of weaving the two, and readers wonder which is true. For Heidi she got to see what the two roads would of been like for her life.
This book is a What If story, that was well written and kept me wanting to know what chose Heidi would eventually make . I know I am going to be rereading this book.I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Loved this story. It's the first Samantha Price book I have read. I live near the Amish and find them hardworking and helpful. I was wondering with Heidi what was happening. I will definitely read more of her books.
I am torn between liking and disliking this story.I really did not enjoy the parts about NYC. However, that was needed to make this a unique story that I came to enjoy.
