The Big Book of Missouri Ghost Stories

Rate this book
Hauntings lurk and spirits linger in the Show Me State

Reader, beware! Turn these pages and enter the world of the paranormal, where ghosts and ghouls alike creep just out of sight. Author Troy Taylor shines a light in the dark corners of Missouri and scares those spirits out of hiding in this thrilling collection. From a headless ghost who stalks the aptly named “Murder Rocks”, to a large hairy monster that roams the banks of the Missouri River, there’s no shortage of bone-chilling tales to keep you up at night. It’s even rumored that the devil himself came to St. Louis in 1949, but nobody knows for sure if he ever left. Around the campfire or tucked away on a dark and stormy night, this big book of ghost stories is a hauntingly good read.

Definitely some spooky stories, but I mainly enjoyed for the history of the state. The author researched well and lays down a nice foundation for each of the "haunted" locations. For instance, the reader gets a decent life synopsis for individuals such as Daniel Boone and Jesse James, while the possible haunting is maybe a few paragraphs. This suited me well as I was more interested in the history portion. I noticed that the author also has one written for Illinois, so I'm excited to read that one too!

I got this book as a souvenir during my recent trip to Kansas City. The content pulled me in, although at times it seemed to slow. Eventually, I was able to reconnect with the stories, getting used to the narrative style. It's definitely an acquired taste, and a good start for those looking for info on Missouri's most notable ghost haunts.

Enjoy!

Not a book you read straight through, lots of short stories. Had the details of the Exercist story at Alexian Brothers Hospital, The Lemp family hauntings and a lot I didn't know.... Entertaining for sure.

Great history in each story. Need to add photos.

Great stories. I would recommend this book to all. Have read other books by Troy Taylor, they're all good reads.
