Boston Boys #4

Boston Roomie

Rate this book
From USA Today Bestselling author Melissa Belle comes a steamy, roommates-to-lovers romance.

I need a safe place to crash for the summer. Only one problem—this place comes with a roommate. A sexy, chiseled, Italian chef roommate…

Diego

The last time I dated someone, I got burned. Literally.

And I’m a chef. I’m used to a little heat in the kitchen. But I want something that isn’t going to flame out in one night.

Then beautiful and brilliant Shohanna becomes my roommate. Our chemistry is scorching, and no matter how much I try to ignore the flames, the fire between us grows bigger.

My summer just got a hell of a lot more interesting. Because now I have to prove—to a woman who trusts no one—that every man who came before was an appetizer, and I’m the full course meal to make her mouth water, her heart melt, and her legs shake.

Shohanna

I want Diego. I never want any man, not after the last one burned my heart black. But I want Diego.

And when we end up being roomies for the summer, I can barely keep my hands off of him. So what do I do when it’s too hot in the kitchen to ignore the heat?

A summer fling is not what I want. I want to heal from the devil in my past, focus on my job, and stop the nightmares.

So a summer fling is not on my list of goals.

But maybe it’s just what I need…

Wow this was a great read by Melissa Belle! Shohanna first sees Diego at her friends wedding and she cannot take her eyes off the sexy usher. But she in not looking for a relationship after the trauma she recently experienced with her ex-husband. Because of this she has serious trust issues. Diego is a chef working in his uncle's Italian restaurant. The more time Diego and Shohanna spend together the more the closer they become. For some reason, Shohanna feels safe whenever she is with Diego. I truly loved this story and the way all. the characters looked out for each other. 5 stars!!!

I again didn't notice that this was fourth in series and I felt like I was missing out and I the story was heartbreakin at times so I didn't want to read the previous stories not because it wasn't a good story because it was but because I wanted something upbeat after.

DNF at 10%. I never DNF books, but it was just that bad and I had very little hope it would get better.

The intro was strange and I feel like they tried to cram a bunch of info into like 3 pages. You get the wedding, where Shohanna and Diego both see each other for the first time. Some super quick and rushed character introductions all at once from both POVs. It’s like they shoved everyone that might come up later in the story into the first few pages then had to add a few sentences to try to make a story line from it.
In Shohannas section, I can’t figure out where she came from, where she’s currently living, and why she’s going to be moving. Like is she living outside of Boston and commuting to the city? Living in Manhattan and commuting to Boston (although that would be insane)? I don’t get it.

““And to you, Shohanna,” Rosie says with a grin. “You’re working in Boston!” I force a smile onto my face and hope I pull off a “yay, I’m excited” look. “Why didn’t you want to come back to Massachusetts?” Rosie’s hazel eyes widen. “You never mentioned.” I can’t crush her innocence by telling her the truth, so I murmur something about loving the fast pace of New York City.

“You know what I think?” Rosie says to me. “I think you need to move into Boston. The city is perfect for single people.” “You sound like my sister,” I say with a smile. “You two would seriously be best friends. And I know it makes sense for me to live closer to work, but I can’t sign a lease in case, by some happy miracle, I’m called back to Manhattan.””

So far the quantity of references to / active tarot readings is weird. Why is Shohannah whipping out tarot to read for herself in a party at the bar? Why are people making all their life choices based off of it??

“Cali said her reading showed that all of us will benefit from the renovations,” Roberto insists… And for you, the cards’ specific message was that your whole life is going to change in a positive way this summer. And the renovations are a part of it somehow.”

Paris is moving on—after Cali’s tarot reading, my cousin decided us being temporarily relocated was a sign that she and her boyfriend, Caleb, should take the summer to try living together under one roof along with their giant Newfoundland dog, Survivor.

Introducing characters:

I feel like I’m missing information since I didn’t read the first books in the series.

“You pissed off Roberto? Again?” He hands me back my change, but I push it back at him, and he nods in thanks. “Of course I did. I’m his only nephew, and he doesn’t know his son well enough yet to feel comfortable yelling at him. I’m good for it, though.”

Roberto doesn’t know his own son? Why not? I’m confused.

In a couple pages it says that Paris didn’t know her dad and found him during Diego’s senior year of college, but what about the son?

The meeting of Shohanna and Diego:

“Shohanna Best.

“Diego. Fancy running into you here. You’re the hottie I’ve met twice now. Well…” She cuts off as she blushes. “Really, we only actually met last week at that bar on Charles.” I blow out a breath and extend my hand. “Right. O’Shea’s Bar. I’m Diego Lanno.””

Wtf. Diego says her name then she says Diego’s and that they’ve met twice, so clearly they know each other. And then he introduced himself again?? That’s bizarre.

The weirdness continues:

“You winked.” She hesitates and then adds off-handedly, “If that was indeed meant for me and not someone standing behind me.” I throw back my head and laugh. “I appreciate your bluntness, Ms. Best. And yes, that wink was exactly meant for you.” Her smile’s genuine now. “Can’t say a guy’s ever done that before.” “Winked from the altar?” A throaty laugh escapes from her mouth. “Exactly. I think you might have broken like ten rules of the church when you did it. I didn’t see you after, though.”

Idk if I can continue this. It’s just so awkward and weird. Why is winking breaking 10 church rules?? Why is that the first time someone’s winked at her??

He wants to heat up the kitchen with his new roommate

Boston Roomie is the fourth book in the Boston Boys series. It is the first book I have read by Melissa Belle so I was not sure what to expect. The book sat for a long while before I picked it up and cracked it open. Once I started reading I found I was quite enjoying the story of Diego and Shohanna. This is a nicely written book with an entertaining story-line and a couple well developed characters.
This may be the first book I have read by the author but it will not be the last.

I received a copy of this book for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

This wasn’t for me. I didn’t feel the chemistry between these characters, plus Shohanna blew seriously hot and cold, which I get considering her background but the fact she seemed to never explain her behavior to Diego just seemed like a plot device to drag it all out. This is also the middle book in a series and I felt there was information I was missing on the other character. I also really didn’t like the fact that characters were all named after cities/states (Paris, London, California) it confused me right at the start, but clearly you were supposed to have read the previous books. Not a bad story, I just found it hard to connect with the characters. For some reason, I found the name California irksome and cringey, especially considering many of the other characters are named after places.

I enjoyed this series of stories but I'm hoping this isn't the last one. Drama, suspense and romance with some HEAs.

Rushed ending

I liked the book except for the ending being rushed as much as it was and then all the epilogue finishing it off.

Shohanna is admiring the usher as his friends are getting married. She had only seen the back side of him so far, but he amazing. When he turned and she could see his face, she was doubly impressed. Too bad she’s neither young nor naïve now or she would have been all over him at the reception. But she’s through with men – she’s already been burned.

When they get to the luxury hotel, Diego Lanno heads for the kitchen. Bucca’s Ristorante is catering the meal, so he wants to check with his uncle to see that he has everything under control. Unfortunately, he got so lost that it was easier to go outside and re-enter from the lobby! Through the glass, he sees the woman from the church who got a frightened look when someone bumped into her. He tried to go after her as she fled, but someone blocked his path – his ex, and he had to tread carefully or she would make a scene and his newlywed friends didn’t deserve that.

Two months later, Shohanna again read the Tarot cards Cali had given her at the wedding and taught her how to use for her own readings. They were amazingly accurate except for one thing. Every single time she asked about her destiny for the upcoming summer, she got the Romance & Love card! Not even remotely possible! No dating, no men, never again! For this summer, Shohanna was going to be working in Boston, but she didn’t want to sign a lease in case she got transferred back to New York. So Rosie said she would see if she could find something for her short-term. Then her sister sent her a text that upset her. Her ex-husband, Rick, said he wanted to see her, despite there being a restraining order against all contact!

Diego is moving out of his apartment to a house this summer so the apartment can be renovated, and he needs a housemate. He hates the idea of living alone in a quiet house, having been used to a happy, noisy Italian family always around him. Cali had read the Tarot cards for him – which he really didn’t believe – and she said his whole life would be changing in a positive way this summer and that the renovations on his apartment were a part of it somehow. Nope, he didn’t see how moving out of his apartment was going to change his life!

When Shohanna and Diego end up as roommates for the Summer, it’s the perfect chance to get to know each other better. Diego is a really good guy, thoughtful and caring, everything that Shohanna needs after her frightful experience with her abusive ex-husband. Could the Tarot cards be right? Is there an important change coming for both of them this summer? Can the gentle chef teach her to open her heart and learn to trust again? Can he keep her safe and give her what she needs to heal?

This was a really good story with great characters the reader could easily like. Shohanna has been through a bad situation, yet she has the strength to overcome the bad with the help of friends and co-workers. Diego is just perfect, with a friendly and caring personality that just begs you to trust him. Will the two of them find their HEA? Grab your copy and see how everything works out.

I can't help but to fall in love with each of the Boston Boys as the author writes them. I've had a crush on Deigo since we met him so many books ago. But, he has matured since then and has become a hot and sexy Italian chef. He's renting this palatial home for the summer, but he needs a roommate.

When Shohanna walks into his life, needing a place to rent, Diego doesn't like the idea. He feels the attraction, but he's already had on relationship crash and burn. But there's something about her that makes him consider whether there could be anything, maybe a summer fling, or if a roommate is all he'll find.

Shohanna is a strong woman who managed to escape a volatile relationship and simply wants to start over. Trust is something she doesn't have a lot of, and whether she can trust Diego will be the hardest decision she might have to make. But when her past catches up to her, will she have Diego's help, or will she be standing alone?

This story is hot and steamy and not just in the kitchen. Diego has a heart of gold, and Shohanna is a strong woman on her own. It's so sweet and heart rending to watch the two find their way through this relationship. I just want more of these Boston Boys.

What captivated me is the story of healing and growth after such horrific abuse. Being a survivor myself the story spoke to my soul. Breaking a cycle which many woman find themselves in, sometimes more than once is hard to overcome and I loved that Sho found her way to trust and love again. Diego is patient and understanding, strong and just a wonderful character, wish I had met someone like that in my life. I just loved this story.

Great story and fast and easy read. Johanna and Diego both have baggage but they also have an undeniable attraction to each other. Can they help each other? Realistic story with real life characters. We get the highs and lows, emotional angst and watch them overcome all for each other. Part of a series but it’s a stand-alone. I haven’t read the other books yet and don’t feel I’ve missed anything important. This was good enough that I will go back and read the other books in the series. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).

The story is about Diego and Shohanna. They pass each other at the wedding reception, but attraction is there. Fast forward couple of months, we see that Shohanna is having trouble with her ex husband who does not want to leave her alone and is actually trying to break the restraining order. The story pulls you in from the start and you cannot wait to see how it's going to unfold. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Beautifully written storyline with attraction, chemistry, an abusive, stalking ex-husband, our H, a gentle and caring chef who had previously been burned, and our lovely, investment banker heroine who after leaving an abusive marriage has sworn off men. The main characters are developed, likable, and relatable. They grow, heal, and have a chance at a HEA. I liked it.

Oh my...everyone needs a Diego but Shohanna needs him desperately. A great love story of an abused woman and the most patient, understanding man who gives her patience and understanding, allowing her the freedom to move forward at her own pace. Can he protect her from the past when she needs him the most?? Will she be able to open her heart to him? Loved it!!
