Volume notes:
Kirisu-sensei is probably going to join the main four leads soon enough after being introduced here.

Nothing really special about this volume as most of the chapters in it are episodic in nature.

Series review:
"We Never Learn" or #BokuBen is a comedy manga that draws its laughs from the interactions of the main character Yuiga with his harem, I mean, his classmates Fumino, Ogata, and Uruka. He tutors them, with a college scholarship on the line for him. There are also two other supporting characters in the periphery, teacher Kirasu, and recent alum Asumi, whose orbits sometimes cross into the paths of the main cast. It has the usual pervy tropes found in manga of its ilk, although toned down because of the high school setting. It was a manga I did not expect to enjoy as much as I did. It gave me that "finale high" which I associate with stories that get me as a reader.

One reason I probably enjoyed this series is the earnestness of the main character. One can't help but cheer for him. He's a good guy and hopelessly clueless sometimes, which is main component of his charm.

My rating for the entire series is 4 stars.

Nice cozy read. Continuing the series, though in this volume I felt things were a lot slower and there was very little development to the main plot line. There were some small chapters with current situations but that added nothing to the main story, just some funny moments. I'm curious to continue this series and I hope for more action in the next installment.

The art is cute, and I really do like Nariyuki and all three of the girls. I feel like this vooume relies on some tried and true teen gags, which van be funny but also eye roll inducing. I am enjoying this, but I wouldn't say it's my favorite.

I received my copy from the publisher through Edelweiss+.

Nariyuki Yuiga is still tutoring the two geniuses, Rizu Ogata and Fumino Furuhashi. Takemoto is still into Nariyuki.

So, something I didn't bring up in my last review came up in this volume, so I'll discuss it here. Something I relate to personally about this series is wanting to do something that others feel is wasted time/inferior to what they think you should do. In Ogata's case, she wants to go to a liberal arts college to learn more about communication/human emotion through literature so she can be better at games (it makes sense in context). Everyone is telling her, "that's a stupid dream," or "why waste time on something like that? It won't benefit you in the future," but they aren't concerned about whether she enjoys her future career or not. This is something that I have experienced and it is unbelievably painful to hear, mostly because the implication is, "careers are for making money, not having fun" which is a horrible way to see it. A person should choose a career that makes them happy, and while making enough money to support yourself is important, why can't it be both? I enjoy Yuiga continuing to help each girl down her chosen path, even though he himself is more concerned about financial stability. Speaking of which, let's talk about Yuiga briefly:

While his character is pretty one-dimensional, all things considered, I do love the fact that his primary focus in life is financial stability. One of my favorite parts in this volume is him being grilled by Sekijo about the kind of girl he likes, and almost all of his answers are centered around financial stability. He even mentions he doesn't plan on having kids until he's financially stable, and I absolutely loved that. I will admit that he isn't a particularly interesting character, especially as a shounen protagonist, but I do like his character and enjoy watching him stumble into ridiculous situation after ridiculous situation. That aside, I do have some gripes with this particular volume that I have to address.

The biggest issue I had was the overabundance of fan service and accidental pervert scenes. I don't remember how many were in the first volume, but I don't think there were that many. Certainly not as many as thee were in this volume. While it didn't necessarily offend me, it was just ridiculous how many there were. Some of the fan service instances were fine, like Takemoto forgetting to wear her bra to school and then having to play basketball (I'll admit, that whole chapter was pretty funny) but the rest of the time it was just cliched and uninteresting. Again, not enough to make me stop reading, but pretty annoying. The other gripe I have is with the teacher, Kirisu-sensei. To me, she seems like the stereotypical, overly harsh teacher that's gonna get in the way of our hard-working protagonists. She gets a little sentimental scene towards the end, but it wasn't enough for me to change my opinion of her. Also, the fact that Yuiga was so informal towards her was kind of weird, considering she's against him. But since she wasn't a central figure in the volume until the end, I can't complain too much.

Anyway, those are my thoughts for this volume. The series is still average and though I enjoyed the art and some of the comedic scenes, I can't bring myself to give it more than 3 stars. It is still a fun series that I recommend if you want a lighthearted comedy and I will be continuing with the series. Give this a go if you want to relax a bit.

Pretty solid volume. There's a bit of a pattern to this series, so it may get too formulaic, but it's okay for now. Basically each chapter usually follows one of the girl's interactions with the lead Nariyuki (usually misunderstandings or them coming to terms with their feelings towards him little by little).

The misunderstandings actually add up to lead to a confrontation between our lead and their former tutor (the woman referred to as "Sensei", Mafuyu Kirisu) in the student guidance office. You wonder how he's going to skate from this trouble with all the alleged misdeeds he is accused of by her, and how she'll interact with him and the group going forward.

We also meet a rival for Riza, Sawako Sekijo. Like a lot of the characters in this volume, she puts up an abrasive front, but deep down she's a Tsundere who cares for Riza. She even does a total bro move for Nariyuki in this chapter. It seems she has been added as a member of the study crew too, though she doesn't really seem to show much affection for Nariyuki as of now.

Overall, the stories are pretty typical fare. Again, misunderstandings involving things like accidental kisses, accidentally winding up in the girls' sauna, forgetting a bra on sports day... You know, totally normal things everyone has done in real life. xC

The studying is still key, but you only learn a few things, like studying techniques and what certain algebraic symbols mean, so it doesn't offer that much education value for the reader to this point. The real draw seems to be how will these characters acknowledge their feelings for Nariyuki, and who ends up with him. Besides that, it's obviously seeing how well these characters can learn their subject matter and what they plan to do with that knowledge when they go to their requested schools.

6.5/10

So I like this series but I’ll be the first to say it’s doing nothing new for this genre. A boy somehow falls into a situation where he must interact with multiple cute girls on the daily basis. And then emotions happen.

I’ve only seen Rosario + Vampire and some of Ouran High School Host Club. We Never Learn doesn’t haven’t a unique spin like monsters or a club of boys “hosting” girls. But it does feel pretty down to earth. A kid from a poor family wants a scholarship but must tutor three girls in their worst subjects. The girls are Rizu the loner, Fumino the sweetheart, and Uruka the energetic one. Their mishmash of personalities while not incredibly unique, hooked me immediately. I THOUGHT I knew who I wanted the MC to get with, but my mind was changed.

And unlike most series in this genre, it seems like all girls have a fair shot. So it’s kind of fun in that way.

Harem time is here! Let the embarrassing situations begin!

Ok, now it seems to be headed in the right direction. And what's this? A possible 4th femme fatal coming round? And what's up with that 1 sister of sensei's? LOLWUT? Hmm, interesting things afoot, indeed! Oh, & boobs planted on a face, boobs touching...! Also, a sauna full of naked girls, & sensei is trapped! Oh, dear, oh my! And, an accidental kiss?!?! Wait, what was the guidance counselor REALLY doing out there in the rain?

3.5/5 It’s cute fun with typical harem tropes. We start with the principal demanding that the girls do well on there mid terms. We also have a couple chapter outing where the cast studies at a mountain retreat. Stereotypical stuff like forgotten bras and getting trapped in the girls bath abound but still fun stuff.

We are also introduced to Sawako, Ogata’s “rival”, as well as Kirisu Sensei the girl’s previous tutor.

Our harem plus Sawako & Kirisu on the cover of volume 2.

Buddy read with Jeff.

I can kick myself for not reading this series sooner. It’s one of the best harem/rom com/tutor manga I’ve read yet. The art is perfectly lined up with the absurd stories and situations. I can’t rave enough! Onward to Volume 3!!

Dynamic art style and great characters but every chapter is a set-up for excessive fan service shots, so, this series is not for me.

I am starting to like the characters, but the stories are silly. Maybe this would appeal to a teen or preteen which is probably the target audience. Live and learn!

I still hold my position that this is a silly harem romantic comedy with hardly any real substance. Especially when this volume has a bunch of chapters with nothing but boobs.

But I would like to point out that this series does have some genuinely good study tips. This is coming from someone who's stuck in almost the same boat as Ogata.

Good points and bad points. Romance wise, I ship Nariyuki and Uruka. Uruka would be my waifu if I were actually into girls.

This series has 21 volumes.
