When the village you call home exists alongside the most dangerous dungeon in the land, the word "weak" is completely relative in this manga adaptation of the popular light novel series!Optimistic young Lloyd would like nothing more than to achieve his life's dream of becoming a soldier. But while he might have succeeded in making it to the capital, Lloyd has failed his entrance exam for military school! Despite his crushing disappointment at this turn of events, Lloyd chooses to remain in the city, while remaining blissfully unaware of his true strength. And as Lloyd persists in achieving his dream, the plot thickens around him...
Another fun and funny volume! Alka's behavior was a big problem and while I'm glad Marie and others call her out for it, it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Also, while Selen's blatant yandere personality is funny, it worries me that this will be the extent of her character. Not that I'm expecting incredible character development, but I want a little bit more from her than, "oh, its the yandere who loves Lloyd".
Criticisms aside, the artwork/ art style were amazing (especially the fight scenes!), the characters for the most part were entertaining, and Marie's reaction to the demon lord's reveal was fucking hilarious. Her reactions are kind of the best anyway, but this was something special.
A fun second volume in this series, curious to see more!
Two things I have to say about this. First: I know Lloyd's insistence on his 'weakness' is played for laughs, but really, when you grow up your whole life having people tell you something, like how 'weak' you are compared to everyone else, that kinda though can get imbedded in your mind and can be very, very difficult to dig out. I'd like to see that aspect explored, but it probably won't be... since it seems like this aspect of Lloyd's character is for comedic purposes. Second: I really hate what the author did with Selen's character. I mean, started out with decent backstory, Lloyd breaking the curse gave a reason for her to hang around him and for the plot to tease a romance, which would've been fine, even if it is a trope. But now she's portrayed as some kind of deranged, obsessed stalker. It's super creepy and I feel like it took a great character beginning and made her completely two-dimensional, at best. The two volumes of the manga only cover the first volume of the light novel, so I hope there will be some improvement in Selen's character, and the stalker-ness get toned waaaay down.
4/5 'Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town Volume 2 continues Lloyds journey to join the military and further exploration of our secondary characters. For being only the second volume, we do get significant story development, including the resolution of what in a different manga would be a big plot point. We also come to understand more about why Lloyd is the way that he is. Another great installment. I am excited to continue this series with volume 3.
Not into the fan service level of this one, but the story itself is still neat enough for me to enjoy it. Concept is fun, and there's enough cute characters here that I like it quite a bit.
