Twenty-five year old Billie Romano is struggling. She is grieving the death of her beloved dad and nothing in her life is going right. Her mother has remarried with indecent haste, so when her grandfather presents everyone in the family with a DNA testing kit for fun, Billie couldn’t be less interested in playing happy families.
The test results are shocking, and Billie finds herself caught in a turmoil of emotions as she is faced with a reality she could never have imagined.
Her journey of discovery takes her to Ireland, and to the stunningly beautiful Castle Dysert on the Wild Atlantic Coast, when Conor O’Shea once more steps into the role of fixer of problems and soother of troubled souls. Can Billie make a whole new start or are some cans of worms best left closed?
Jean Grainger was born in Cork, Ireland. She has been a tour guide of her beloved home country, a teacher, a university lecturer and a playwright. She began writing fiction at the suggestion of her clients on tours, many of whom were sure all the stories she told them would make for a great book. Her first book, The Tour, has become a Number 1 bestseller on Amazon. It tells the story of a disparate group of American visitors to Ireland, who, along with their Irish tour guide have a life changing experience in the magical Emerald Isle. Her second book, So Much Owed, is a family saga set during the Second World War. The story centres on the Buckley family of West Cork and how their lives are pulled in different directions as they become embroiled in the war. It is a sweeping family saga of intrigue and romance against the background of occupied Europe. In her third novel, Shadow of a Century, she tells a tale of a battered old flag found in New York in 2016, a century after it was used during the Easter Rising, when Ireland made her final bid for freedom from Great Britain. This tells the story of a journalist who uncovers a story, one with much more to it than a flag. Her fourth novel, due out in Spring 2016, Under Heaven’s Shining Stars, is set in the 1970s in Cork, Ireland and is a novel about friendship. Three boys, Liam, Patrick and Hugo, though from very different backgrounds are united in a deep but often times challenging friendship. As their lives progress, only by staying strong, can they prevail. Or fail. Her novella, Letters of Freedom, tells the story of Carmel, stuck in a pointless marriage, when a figure from her past emerges and changes everything with a ‘like’ on Facebook. This quick read will touch your heart. She lives in Cork with her husband and her two youngest children. The older two come home occasionally with laundry and to raid the fridge.
Every time I read one of Jean Grainger's stories I find myself thinking that if I ever make a bucket list the first entry will be to visit Ireland and Castle Dysert. I absolutely love Conor O'Shea and his family. He seems like the typical guy next door that you'd love to be friends with. Although he is generally cool, calm, and collected, occasionally his wife Anna has to step in to help keep him on an even keel. In this book Conor is at it again, helping others to mend family relationships. Having read everything that Jean Grainger has written I am astounded by her ability to repeatedly turn out top quality works each and every time. This one is no exception either. This contemporary series is also kept interesting by addressing issues of today. Although each book can be read as a stand alone I highly recommend one begin with the first book and read through all of them. I'm sure that you'll also fall in love with Conor, Anna, and their boys. Well done Jean Grainger. You have quickly become my favorite author.
I love this series! A taste of Ireland;the culture, the quips, and the landscape in the different counties that the wonderful Conor O’Shea has taken his travelers to is wonderful! And now that he is fully invested in the Castle Dysert, it’s been delightful to read about all those who stay, seeking answers in their lives. A great, clean, delightful read!
When I read the first in the Tour series, it was in anticipation of a friends trip to Ireland. I googled all their stops on the tour, so I also could embark on the trip. However, Conor draws you in personally, and all the various tourists have a story. I didn't plan on reading the series, but here I am finishing book 5 and on to book 6. Enjoying each. Conor's family is growing. More places to visit, more history to embrace, more tourists with interesting stories. Five star reading fun.
Another enjoyable read in the series by this very reliable author. The lighthearted and more serious books always pull me right into the story and I have a hard time taking a break once I get started.
Finding Billie #5 – I absolutely love this series. This book ends up sharing a storyline from The Star and The Shamrock. Ms. G is the ultimate storyteller and The Tour Series has been a fun, interesting, heartbreaking and heartwarming set of books, with Finding Billie adding to the glory of this series. As always, the storylines of Billie mesh into a tapestry of present, past, history, modern themes, romance and discovery, while using Conor the tour guide then hotel owner as the foundation of the series. I loved visiting with past characters; getting an update of their present whereabouts. Some good and some sad, but Ms. G always shares updates with her readers. Face it, we faithful want to know the rest of the story.
This is a difficult review to write because it is so easy to turn it into a book review since I have the pleasure of reading each book from the first. Lucky new readers, please start with the first book; the foundations laid in each story build upon each other to give the reader a wonderful glimpse into the lives of others and not just the Irish and the American, while learning of Irish history and language. Each book is a standalone but why deprive yourself of a wonderful world written by a talented, knowledgeable writer definitely gifted as a great storyteller. 5* The Tour The Tour #1 - I never get tired of reading Ms. Grainger's books. This is another well written, heartwarming, funny, entertaining, intriguing story. The characters are realistic and run the gamut of personalities. Funny and sad and heartbreaking and uplifting things happen along the route, but the reader never wants to stop reading. The vivid descriptions of Ireland and its culture and its people and the scenery, including buildings, keep the reader immersed in the pages. 5*
Safe at the Edge of the World #2 - What, this is a lot about a couple of Americans. But as I kept reading I forgot that I wanted to read more about Ireland. We still have all our favorite characters from The Tour and the two Americans find safety with the fellow tourists and the crew. Help comes from everywhere and this intense, intriguing story with its surprises is an exceptional book on its own. It was similar to works by Mario Puzo; substantial, heartwarming, heart wrenching and entertaining. Ms. Grainger is very talented in her craft. 5*
The Story of Grenville King #3 - What an amazing collection of stories. No, it's one book but the intertwining stories of the many characters make this a rich, fulfilling, twisting, intriguing story. The characters are well developed, interesting and so real. The dialog is better than average. The plot goes on and on with new happenings, twists and turns. The emotions run the gamut: love, happiness, fear, sadness, hate and more. This is the first book I've read of the Tour series and I didn't miss anything not having read the previous books. I've read several stories by this author and never have I been disappointed. This book is amazing, substantial and hard to put down. My review doesn’t do justice to this story. I’m glad I contacted the author to review her books. 5*
The Homecoming of Bubbles O'Leary #4 - A terrible person ruins the life of a good person, but .... I absolutely enjoy The Tour Series and this is probably now my favorite of the four books. There are a lot of storylines going on, naturally - Ms. Grainger wrote it, that just kept me glued to the pages. Our favorite characters are still there just as realistic and likable as always. The variety of characters that Bubbles attracted to himself with his big heart and wise ways ran the gamut of different personalities and quirkiness, and the range of emotions gave such depth to the story. While there are a lot of good things happening, there are also the bad. There are plenty of heartbreaks and joys, but the journeys everyone made through the good and bad, as well as their discoveries kept me immersed totally. Of course, Ms. Grainger has a talent for vivid descriptions and I felt as if I was there, too. I contacted the author to review her books. 5* The Tour end.
The Star And The Shamrock – Ms. Grainger does a wonderful job telling about the transportation of children from their families in Europe to the UK. The Jewish children of this story land in Northern Ireland and the reader is introduced to the Irish side of the equation.
The storylines are varied and heartwarming and heart breaking about this horrible period in man’s history. The characters run the gamut from extremely good to extremely hateful. There is good where it is least expected. The pulling together of different cultures, different age groups and different religions shows that man can rise about prejudice and intolerance and make a difference.
While the history is important, this book tells the experiences of a set of characters as they strive to make the best of a bad time. There are plenty of heroes and none wear a cape. It was hard to put down this book since I so immersed in the history and the story. Even though, I know a lot about WWII and the Holocaust, I found Ms. Grainger did an interesting presentation of history and everyday life. For those who don’t like to read about world history, or any history, this is a good introduction. I contacted the author to review her books. 5*

This series has evolved from being about participants in the coach tours Conor guided around Ireland to being equal parts about Conor, his family and his business (running the hotel); and the storyline for Billie and her family. Somehow, it works.
From staffing issues to family reunions, the twins' antics and the devastation of Ana's illness, Conor's life is far from relaxing. Yet, despite the fullness of his plate, he still finds time to help others.
I loved Ana's character development as well. Over the course of the series so far, she has progressed from a relatively minor 'side' character to a main event in her own right. The portrayal of her illness was handled well, and the author did her justice in letting her strength shine through.
A small and unexpected twist at the end gives readers something more to look forward to in the next book.
I listened to the Audible Audio version of this book and found the narrator suited to the story.
Am I glad I read it - yes Was it a waste of my time - no Would I sit down and read it all over again - yes Would I read more by this author based on this book - definitely, looking forward to Book 6
Another heart touching story (or actually, stories)
Wow, when I picked The Tour to read,I hadno idea how immersed I would be in Conor O'Shea and his amazing wife Anna would be. They are not confronted because it is far more subtle, but they listen to people when those peoples' doubts and fears are expressed and rather than shake their heads, maybe commiserate a bit, they listen, and if there is anything they can do to help, they help! They never take a hands off attitude but open their hearts and given that Conor has always been who he is, he has a huge network of others willing to help as well. The problems they solve, the broken links they repair, are blessings for everyone. Do not for a moment think the O'Sheas are among those who believe they are commissioned by God, that they themselves are storing up credits in Heaven. They offer whatever help they can because they have had tough times themselves which gives them empathy. These storirs are engrossing and I finish the books far too quickly. Try them!

Can Billie make a whole new start or are some cans of worms best left closed?" synopsis copied Last book in the series, and I loved each one. Again, full of interesting characters, both old and new. Now I am sad to be saying good-bye to friends.
This is the 5th book in the Tour Series, and I really enjoyed it! The book weaves stories of Billie Romano, a young woman in her 20’s who grew up in Boston and lives in CA. She had a younger brother who passed away a few years prior and though was remained close with her father, he also passed away. Billie and her mother have a strained relationship, but she is still close with her grandfather. Billie learns some news and ends up getting her grandfather and his lady friend along with her mother and her new husband to go to Ireland with her. Of course they stay at Castle Dysert and interact with Conor O’Shea who helps them with their journey. Conor’s wife Ana, twin sons, father, in laws, and the workers at the castle are all part of the story.
Really enjoyable writing - these characters are so human and down to earth and when I read it I want to be part of their charming Irish world!
Billie Romano is 25 and works at the biggest movie animation studio in the business. But she's still crippled by grief over the deaths of her brother and father. She's estranger from her mother who has remarried. So when her grandfather surprises everyone at Thanksgiving dinner with the gift of a DNA kit to trace their ancestry, she's less than thrilled. Little does anyone know that the heritage those kits reveal will unlocak family secrets and spark a trans-Atlantic journey. Setting a series of novels in a luxury hotel is an ingenious way to propel the story of Conor O'Shea and his family and friends while inserting new drama and characters in a natural, plausible way. Readers will enjoy catching up with old favorites while meeting new additions. A delightfully smooth and addictive read, kind of like Irish coffee. Once tasted, it's all but impossible to stop after just one.
This series is a lesson in life in addition to being great fun to read. If we could all follow Conor's "teachings", we could live a happier life and be kinder to each other. The story line is predictable but how if unfolds in each book provides a very interesting and engaging read. You feel the emotions of the characters as they work through the situations that life (the author) has put them in. By the time you get to book 5, you begin to feel like you are almost an intimate member of the O'Shea family. If you are looking for fun and a uplifting series of stories, you can't get any better than this. Jean Grainger provides in subtle ways a blueprint for dealing with our personal challenges and our sometimes troubling interpersonal relationships.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the Conor and family books. I really liked The Tour (first book), but didn't care for the second one at all. I decided to give the third book a chance and fell back in love with the family/strangers/castle and descriptions of Ireland. Having visiting years ago, Jean brings back very fond memories of my visit. Thank you for the fun, light-hearted with a bit of suspense/drama thrown in stories in this difficult time in the world and look forward to the O'Shea family's next adventure
Have read so many of Jean Grainger's books - after reading number 5 in the Tour books - I was amazed to learn to the anti-semitism in Ireland. My mother is from Clonakilty and father from Cork and I never knew this. My mother is a third cousin to Michael Collins and my father's uncle opened the Acadia in Cork (the dance hall) in case I have the name wrong. Keep the books coming as I so love them. I live in Canada and emigrated here in 1965 at the age of 18 - very different world back then.
The fifth book is about a young woman, who is still dealing with the death of her father, finding out her father was not her biological father. Her fractured family, her mother, new stepfather, granddad and his wonderfully crazy girlfriend, all go to Ireland to possibly meet her biological father. Connor and family are intertwined throughout the story and a big surprise for Connor at the end. I love the way different family issues are explored and resolved in this series.
I’m not one to usually enjoy “series” books. Typically, I tire of them after just a couple no matter how well they are loved by many. But I have thoroughly enjoyed “The Tour” series! From the first one, I have enjoyed the interesting characters and story lines. The continuing characters are likable and well developed. I’ve only read this series by the author, but I think I will likely be checking out others of her books as well. I thoroughly enjoy her wholesome style. Oh, and I’ve already purchased the sixth in the series!
The book started promising but by the end there were so many story-lines that it got a bit muddled and I almost didn't finish reading it. I pushed through because once I am over half done with a book I get obsessive about finishing it. I kind of regretted that when she once again went into her usual preaching against the Catholic religion. I am not Catholic, however I still find this need of hers to disrespect this church off-putting. Jean Grainger should retire her rant's against the Catholic religion, just saying. It has spoiled more then one of these books for me.
I really enjoy this series. I started it because I was taking a trip to Ireland and thought it would get me in the mood for the trip...It totally did. I do audible books and loved listening to the pronunciation of names and places. The trips he took in the bus were places I wanted to go. And now with his hotel you still get to meet travelers with things happening in their lives as well as catch up with our regular characters. When this book was finally available in audible I jumped to listen to it. Now to wait for the next one to be in Audible format.
I have really enjoyed The Tour series. Connor O'Shea, part owner of a five-star, magnificent castle hotel on the west coast of Ireland, is the nicest guy you could meet, but he manages to encounter some characters who are not so happy to know him. All of the books in the series introduce guests and staff who have touched me, made me angry, had me laughing and hoping there would be a next book in the series.
I enjoy Jean Graingers’ work and she is one of the author’s that I follow.
“The Tour” is one of my favorite series! I particularly enjoyed the sensitivity that Mrs. Grainger used in approaching the subject of DNA testing and finding a biological parent. I felt she was very tactful in her approach. One of the reasons I enjoy Mrs. Grainger’s work so much is attributed to her ability to create characters and situations that are very relatable for us as readers.
I fell in love with Jean Grainger's books a few years ago, and have enjoyed every one! Her characters are endearing, and I always feel like I've come home when I get to read more about Conor and his family! Please continue to delight us with more tales in the future! I highly recommend them to anyone interested in Ireland and their unique heritage.
I just finished this book with happy tears in my eyes, I loved it this is just the type of novel I love to read . I would recommend it to anyone , my friends ,relatives of strangers. I've read a Lot of your books starting with The Tour and then I was hooked! You are such good writer I read a Lot of your early ones did not know you have 15 under your belt! Keep it up have loved all that I've read so far. Thank you so much Jean!! Joy Buterbaugh
I find Grainger's books delightful to read. Not intense for deep, just fun. Predictably, all of the loose ends are tied up and mysteries are solved to everyone's advantage. She always includes enough background from previous books to fill in the gaps if t hff e reader hasn't read tgem... it's als8a nice refresher for those of us who have read them in order but forgot some details!
Enthralling life adventure spiced with Irish humor!
I could go on and on about this book as Jean Grainger is my favorite author. There is much the same as you would expect in this type of novel but This author brings enough unexpected turns as well as life lessons. This is now the 14th of her books I have read and have been unable to put them down since reading her first book about a month ago.
Ms. Granger is the BEST STORY TELLER !! This is Book 5 in the Series and does not disappoint. As if any of her Volumes does that !! She weaves the Characters. so well and they are very real and likeable as they revel the Story. Connor , the central figure, is such a kind and loving man who wants only to show his beloved Ireland in the best of light. I urge readers to begin this series of you are interested in Irish History and the beauty of the Land.
This is the fifth book in The Tour Series and it is every bit as good as the other four. The series follows the O’Shea family and friends. I do recommend that you start at the first book because even though each book is a separate story, the characters from previous books are mentioned and are often part of the next book. I think it was helpful to have the background story on everybody. I highly recommend the whole series.
If you have ever been on a bus tour in Ireland then this series is for you; and if you have never been on a bus tour 8n Ireland then this series will make you want to go. The country is as enchanting as it is depicted on the book. The characters are people you could know. And Conor O'shea is the epitome of a tour guide you will meet when you visit. I loved each book book in the series mote than the ladt!
I never write reviews but this time I must. This series has given me so much pleasuer! I have read the previous 4 books in the series, and am now going to start #5. I feel like I know more about Ireland and it's history and now, want to know more. The characters are written so beautifully that they feel like friends! Ireland is now on my must see list of countries to see. Do yourself a favor and begin this series today!
Jean Grainger is a wonderful storyteller. She weaves history, current events and her lovely characters into stories that enchant the reader. Her characters are engaging and make you feel at home. And as for Ireland, you enjoy it's history, future and beauty all in one read. Am almost sad to nearing the end of this series but have already purchased the first 3 in another one of her series.
I’ve read each of the Tour series and fallen truly in love with most of the characters and especially the star Conor. Choices in lives mirror the choices each of us have made or seen other people make so we identify with the consequences and the characters. Along the way we admire the pure storytelling that Jean Grainger has mastered. We all have stories.
