The last thing I want is to partner on a library exhibit with Max, a hot new art professor at my college, but it's part of my job as librarian so I don't have a choice. My attraction to him is intense and immediate, but I'm taking a break from dating so I can focus on myself. I don't need a distraction like Max.

He's a single father, and that's the only thing he can focus on now. He's never going to take a relationship with me seriously, no matter how much I want him to.

Single Dad is the third book in the Milford College series, novellas about the faculty and staff of a small liberal arts college.

Reread:
I really enjoyed my reread of this book. I’d forgotten how much I loved the gentle message behind this heroine's life experiences. Reacquainting myself with Max was also worth the reread. He’s a great hero that’s fun, flirty, and down to earth. I absolutely LOVE him, even more the second time around.

Original:
This was such a cute, fun, sweet and smexy read!

After putting her life on hold in order to follow the men in her life, Katrina has decided it’s time to put herself first. She has a list of things she wants to accomplish before she considers dating again. But the intense heat she feels each time she sees Max is hard to ignore. When they are thrown together for an art exhibit, she agrees to a “disposable” relationship. Nothing permanent, nothing demanding or complicated, just something…simple.

description

Boy, I could totally see myself as well as friends in Katrina. Adjusting her life to fit what she thought a man wanted and then realizing that time had flown by and she hadn’t succeeded in accomplishing some of her goals left her feeling like a failure. I loved that she was determined enough to fight for what she wanted even at the cost of heartache. Her refusal to settle for less is a mantra girls/women hear and may repeat, but often never follow.

description

Max was fun and flirty from the beginning. He was a lighthearted hero who was forthright with Katrina and determined to make her like him. Watching them together each time she tried to get rid of him was too cute. The fact that he called her on it only added to the cuteness factor. But as a single father, he had to be up front with her that his daughter was the center of his life and she would always take precedence over everything else.

description

While there was a lot of steam and chemistry between this hero and heroine as well as plenty of smiles and some drama, above everything else, this story felt real. Like many of this author’s books, each of these characters are developed with flaws. They do not have perfect bodies, they do not always smoothly glide from one scene to the next. They stumble and waiver, they are both awkward at times and communication is often difficult but always feels real. Katrina and Max were perfectly imperfect and totally realistic and I loved them all the more for it.

I always know what I’m going to get with a Noelle Adams story. A little angst, a little heat and a whole lot of fluff.

And I’m totally down with all of that. I requested Single Dad because I knew it would be a nice little break between longer, more in-depth type of reads and I wasn’t wrong. Max and Katrina were cute together and I loved the addition of Max’s daughter, Rika.

As much as I enjoy these quickies, there isn’t much to recommend them beyond an hour of fun reading. I needed a little more “something” to push this story to the 4 star level but overall I enjoyed Single Dad, as well as the rest of the Milford College series.

I'm so bummed that this was the last book in this series that I had to read. I really enjoyed my time with all the couples at Milford College. I'm not usually too big on romances with kids in them, but unsurprisingly, I thought Noelle Adams handled this element with grace, and I really appreciated the message of the heroine finding her own life/path independently of a man in her life.

If you’re a fan of sexy small town contemporary romances that cover the range of tried and true tropes (marriage of convenience, enemies to lovers, best friend’s sibling etc.) with likable characters and low angst plots, then Noelle Adams should be on your reading list. Though she has written a few outliers (case in point Late Fall, a romance that tackles the realities of aging, and as Clare Kent, she’s written a host of erotic romances including the science fiction series Hold) she returns time and again to what’s become her niche. Single Dad is the third story in her Milford College series set at a liberal arts school and is as good an example as any of why her writing is so appealing to many.

Max is a recently hired art teacher, a handsome man in his late thirties with a fourteen-year-old daughter Freddie. Katrina is a research librarian in her late twenties who sometimes works late and seems to always be passing by Max’s classroom on Tuesday evenings when she finishes her shift and he finishes his class. He’s always got a gaggle of students around him, mostly female, yet somehow their eyes always connect as she passes by. When a planned exhibition of Max’s students’ art related to books results in Max and Katrina working together to set up the exhibit in the library, it’s also a chance to explore the attraction between them. They both have reasons for keeping things simple and enjoying a no strings attached affair but when their feelings start to deepen will they break things off or find their way to a happy ever after?

It’s easy to like both of these characters and Max’s daughter, who plays prominently in the story. Katrina meets a young teenager who calls herself Rika in her library who hangs out every Tuesday evening waiting for her dad to pick her up. It’s obvious to the reader right away that Rika and Freddie are the same person, though Katrina becomes friends with both Rika and Max independent of their father/daughter relationship and it’s not until later in the second half that they all discover how they know each other. Katrina has bonded with the young woman over a love of books and reading and introduced her to some Jane Austen and Louisa May Alcott favorites – fans of those authors will appreciate the shoutouts.

Max’s baggage is pretty simple. He’s divorced and his daughter is his main focus in life. As far as he’s concerned, everyone else comes second, including any new woman he dates, and he isn’t looking for a serious relationship. He shares custody with his ex-wife, though Freddie only sees her on alternate weekends, and she lives with her dad and goes to school locally. Max is attracted to Katrina when he first sees her (he’s relieved to find out she’s faculty and and not an off-limits student) but clear up front that his daughter is priority number one.

As for Katrina, she has always been in the position of putting her partner’s needs ahead of her own and when her last boyfriend ditched her, she vowed to make her priorities come first. This means getting a second master’s degree, getting her own house, getting a dog and not letting a man distract her from those goals. Starting a sex-only fling with Max is the easy part. The hard part is when she realizes that she’s starting to want more, and worries that she will compromise her own dreams – again – for a man.

The sex scenes are pretty steamy. Max is a talented and giving lover and Katrina appreciates how he puts her pleasure first. Their initial discussion about why they don’t want anything serious sticks in both their minds and becomes the impediment to sharing how their feelings are changing. And then there is Rika/Freddie to consider as well. All would be cleared up with some honest conversation but then the reader wouldn’t get the satisfaction of the emotional angst and heartfelt confessions that lead to a very satisfying happy ending. Single Dad is a predicable yet enjoyable romance.

Thank you to the publishing team and Noelle Adams for the opportunity to read this book in advance.

OMG the feels! I am a sucker for Noelle Adams books because I can relate a lot to her heroines and this book was no different. Katerina is a strong, stubborn and imperfect heroine who is determined to accomplish the goals that she has set for herself and not to have her life revolved around her relationships. It was pretty much lust at first sight for Max and Katerina and it worked for them at first. Both wanted a relatively simple relationship as each had their own lives to focus on. The evolution of their "disposable relationship" to a real one is filled with miscommunication, and I am okay with that. When I say miscommunication, I am referring to the type where it's hard to admit that you have feelings for someone even when your not sure they feel the same way, and that's extremely practical and relatable. Her relationship with Rika was cute and the familial relationship was well developed.

Overall it's a great book, and I ended up getting teary-eyed a couple of times especially when they were both confused about their feelings.

Heroine was a sad and pathetic doormat licking up the few crumbs of affection that the supposed hero deigned to throw her way. Having a relationship with a single dad is probably not a good idea in most cases but this guy took the cake, dumping his girlfriend in the middle of a date because his daughter calls and tells him she's… bored!!! To add insult to injury, she then overhears him telling his daughter he is not doing anything important and he'd rather be with her than anyone else. The heroine perseveres and lo and behold, the teenaged daughter is 100% on board with the relationship from day one, even begging the heroine to date her dad. I'm sorry but it's too ridiculous. Totally stupid, implausible story.

I first discovered this author under her alter ego of Claire Kent and she writes darker sci-fi type romance under that name. I spotted this and thought I probably should try something more mainstream by her but confess I'm not really a huge fan of contemporary romance so going in my expectations were not that high .
This is a sweet, small town romance between Katrina, a young woman who has given up on love and just wants to find herself really and Max, a single dad who is desperate to be the perfect father.
What struck me as amusing was the distinct lack of communication between the couple as no matter how open they try to be there's still a lack of honesty which causes them both unnecessary hurt and angst. This is a short, easy read but the characters are likeable and if you are looking for a steamy read then this adorable little story will definitely deliver. I found it flowed very well and admit it lacks perhaps some depth as obviously Max does have a child who is part of this story but I finished it in one sitting so obviously it did hold my attention. This is hard to rate so I think three and a half.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

3.5 stars, rounding up

I haven't read the previous books in this series, but this novella worked find as a standalone. I liked that for Katrina, it was important for her to figure out what she wants for herself and not as half of a couple. Katrina feels like she's made a lot of major decisions about her life based on the man she was dating at the time, so it was interesting to see that explored here. But what I also loved is that Max told her that the right partner would ask her what she wants and support her, and he really tried to do that. The whole "disposable relationship" thing was off-putting to me at first because I was stuck on that word "disposable" (rather than casual), but I think that was deliberate. The chemistry was great. the sex was hot. I would recommend this book.

I just love this series, and this installment was no exception. Max and Katrina were great together, and I loved watching them realize their true feelings for each other. Rika was a fun addition as well, and I really liked the element that she brought to the story. This was such a fun read, and I felt all of the emotions right along with the characters. The epilogue was everything I wanted! Can't wait for #4!

Max is an honest man, “Katrina, I’m looking at you like I’m about to kiss you because I am.” Seriously the man doesn't have a filter, “because I’m way too old to have *** before coffee. I’d have made my best effort for you, but it wouldn’t have been my finest hour.” I liked this book, I loved Max.

Single Dad is the third book in the Milford College series, novellas about the faculty and staff of a small liberal arts college.

•••••••••••

REVIEW: 3. 75 stars—SINGLE DAD is the third instalment in Noelle Adams’ contemporary, adult MILFORD COLLEGE romance series focusing on the men and women who work at Milford College. This is twenty-seven year old, librarian Katrina Pierce ,and thirty-nine year old, art teacher /single father Maxwell ‘Max’ Wentworth.SINGLE DAD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from first person point of view (Katrina Pierce) SINGLE DAD follows the building romance between Milford College librarian Katrina Pierce, and art teacher / single father Maxwell Wentworth. Hired as an adjunct instructor Max Wentworth is looking for help setting up an art exhibit in the library, and Katrina Pierce is his contact. Working together, a definite attraction begins to develop,an attraction Max is hoping to take further. What ensues is the building relationship between Max and Katrina as our couple balance their personal and professional lives without falling in love.

Max Wentworth is a single father who is looking for a friends with benefits relationship from our story line heroine. Katrina’s last relationship ended when her boyfriend fell in love with somebody else, now Katrina is focusing on herself for the foreseeable future.

The relationship between Max and Katrina is one of immediate attraction but Katrina struggles with her attraction to Max, and wavers between remaining professional and wanting something more. Max offers sex, fun and flirtation never expecting to fall in love. The $ex scenes are passionate and captivating without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

SINGLE DAD is a fun and flirty romance. The premise is engaging; the characters are sexy and sassy.

Instant attraction leads to a promising start to this steamy novella, but insecurities get in the way of this being a great read. The third book in the series (though easily read as a standalone), Single Dad follows Katrina and Max. She is a librarian and he is the new art professor that everyone loves. Katrina has always let her needs take a backseat in relationships, so she’s put off by the charismatic and easygoing professor who seems to get everyone’s attention without trying. In an effort to focus on herself, Katrina has sworn off men until she starts achieving her goals, but Max doesn’t make that easy when he pursues her relentlessly.

I really liked the chemistry between these two from the start. Max can’t understand why Katrina seems to dislike him when he knows the attraction is mutual, and that tension was fun to read. Things started to go downhill a bit for me when they decided to start a so-called “disposable” (mostly sexual) relationship despite the fact that they obviously get along so well outside of the bedroom. It left a sour taste in my mouth, as did the lack of communication throughout the book. At novella-length, the story moves pretty quickly but still feels complete. I just didn’t necessarily love the direction it headed in for the back half of the story. I received an ARC from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review of this steamy read. I think I know who the couple featured in the next book will be and they have me intrigued.

Wow! I loved Single Dad! Such a great story packed into a novella! Single Dad is book three in the Milford College series which features staff of the local liberal arts college.

Katrina is on staff at the library. Having her masters in library science isn't enough for her. She wants her masters in English as well. But that is just one thing Katrina feels she is lacking in her life. Her past boyfriends have dictated how she lived until they left her drifting in the wind. She is bound amd determined to get the life she believes she should have. What she wasn't expecting was meeting new art teacher Max!

Max is the new part time art teacher. He loved his regular job as a graphic artist, but it can get a bit boring. He takes the art studio job to feed that hands on, creative side he has been missing. He is intrigued with the girl who passes his classroom every week. Although his daughter is his life, he knows he must meet this woman!

I really enjoyed this book! I liked both Katrina and Max and felt their misgivings were believable and relatable. I think they fit well together so they needed to figure how that looked in the big picture. Their journey kept me flipping the pages! I was happy with how everything turned out! Well done!

**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This is another sweet book in the series and we met Katrina in the previous book as she is friends with Beck.

Max is a very sweet man with a teenage daughter, yet when he finally meets Katrina he initiates a relationship with her even though she tries to be colleagues as she has given up dating for a while to get what she wants out of life.

Max pursues her carefully, a bit too carefully at times and his comment that only his daughter will be first in his life is sweet, but eventually causes a little problem in their relationship.

Its a lovely novella, perfect for a rainy day or when you just need a quick read with a happy ending.

Something was seriously wrong with this book. It reads like a boring list of minutiae. I'm never seen so many trips to the restroom described in a novel before, it certainly didn't further the plot. The main character alternates between sad crying and giggling for chapters. I want you too much so I have to break up with you has to be a worse plot device then the constant misunderstandings of other novels. I should have dnf'd this.

You need 5 large, peeping hot teacups for this book! Noelle Adams' Single Dad is truly one of the best romances of the year! I am thoroughly enjoying this series! The angst in this installment was sneakier but no less effective. Max and Katrina had such palpable chemistry but the flip side is that they were terrible at communicating about what they really wanted. Luckily for Katrina, Max was persistent at getting her to tell him what was on her mind and realizing when he was in the wrong. I thought it was pretty obvious I was glad that Katrina didn't compromise on finally going after the life she wanted, regardless of her relationship with Max. She deserved to do that, if only to prove to herself that she could. (There is a little bit of heteronormativity and it’s a cishet white book but there’s also an extremely small cast of characters.)

Characters: Max is a 39 year old white adjunct art instructor and graphic artist. He has primary custody of his 13 year old daughter Freddie . Katrina is a 27 year old white research librarian who is working on an MA in literature. This is set in Milford, VA.

Content notes: FMC’s ex cheated, MMC is divorced (primary custodial parent), on page sex, alcohol, STD stigma (“healthy”), gender essentialist language, ableist language, reference to former friends who were misogynists

Tried to finish this for weeks (and its a damn novella). Its just not for me.

Through the heroine’s judgmental POV, the hero sounds like a skeeze. The plot devices to delay the “big reveal” of his daughter just makes him seem like an absentminded father. The heroine’s pity party at not being a priority compared to his daughter was framed so pathetically.

Example:
“Maybe. But it wasn’t an emergency. He did have a choice, and he chose to leave you. I would have been upset too.”

Context for this was that the hero’s 14 year old daughter called him (she didnt know he was on a date) because she was upset her mom left her alone on her custody weekend. Hero cuts the date short to pick up his daughter, heroine is upset. Cue conflict. Cue me rolling my eyes.

Katrina has noticed Max since he started teaching art classes at Mills College. But she doesn’t want to notice him. She’s determined to accomplish the goals she had previously put aside because of her past relationships.
Single dad Max has noticed Katrina since she first walked past his classroom. In a big way. But she looks like an undergrad and his daughter is the only one he has room in his life and heart right now.
Some things are inevitable no matter how much one fights against them. This was a very heated single dad romance with likes likable characters.

-Single dad and age gap
-He’s a professor (39yrs) she’s a librarian (27yrs)
-Friends with benefits

Super quick and very cute. I thought Max and Katrina were such a cute couple and very steamy together although I would have loved a little more detail for a few of the intimate scenes. Rika is one of my favorite children out of all of the single parent books I’ve read, she is just so adorable and lovable.

This series of novellas is really continuing to help me out of my reading funk. It's a fun and light series that makes me smile. I particularly liked how organic the relationship between Max and Katrina felt. It wasn't forced, they were genuinely attracted to each other, and worked well as a couple, especially with the import they put on Freddie's comfort and feelings.

Nice. Maybe 3.5 stars.

I enjoyed the read. I’m not sure why the hero was so sure that he couldn’t have a real relationship just because he has a daughter? It didn’t make sense to me. Other than that, it was a decent read.

Really thoughtful, well-balanced romance. Age-gap, but not icky (It’s actually the same age gap as me and my husband, so I was probably gonna be cool with it.) This is my second book by this author, and I’m really digging her vibe. I think anyone who enjoys Olivia Dade would like her books, too.
