This is not a review of the blurb, but a review of the authors writing.
Fiction does have it's own set of rules. You can stretch the truth, you can create worlds, and you can pretty much create your own language.
BUT, if you are going to pick real careers for your characters to portray, at least research them! No Veterinarian that young has any time to do the things this author wrote about. You get ONE mention of a dog and that is it. And, the Vet has no pets? As for the Physician? She gets the pet, and it is written pretty much as the wrong species... More dog like and unbelievable.
This story had potential but fell FLAT on its face when the author chose a Vet and a Physician to write about that she did not research thru.
This is a perfect story for those looking for a uncomplicated read and predictable ending.
For me, I am glad it was free and I will not be looking into the series or this author again. Except for the vanilla sex, it could be labeled young adult.
Let’s Do It by Ann Christopher is the second installment for the author’s Journey’s End series and features the youngest Harper brother, Edward.
I read the A Journey’s End, the first novella, a while back and liked it but didn’t really keep tabs on the subsequent books which is why I was surprised to see that I had apparently missed two releases.
Let’s Do It takes a stab at the classic love at first sight trope. Reeve Banks is on her way back home to begin her medical residency when she experiences a flat tire. After trying to change the tire on her own, a good Samaritan stops and tries to help. “Tries” being the operative word here. Reeve is wary of this stranger, but Edward Harper soon proves that he is a man simply trying to help. What should have been a brief encounter turns into something more when they run into each other on more than one occasion shortly thereafter.
Edward knew what he wanted, and that was Reeve. Reeve had been through a lot, was wary of any relationships, and still dealing with some raw emotions due to a tragedy years ago. Edward wasn’t perfect by any means, and a revelation early in this book had the potential to put the kibosh on any long term romantic plans. After a steamy night, emotions start to overwhelm both of them, and Reeve bolted. Edward didn’t let her off that easy and proved to be very persistent no matter how many roadblocks she tried to put up.
Let’s Do It deals with love, loss, and the courage to move on; in the face of tragedy, and when a relationship has run its course.
I wished this book was a bit longer. At 218 pages, it was a pretty quick read and while we got our happy ending, there were a few questions I still had at the end. We briefly met Ethan and James; two of Edward’s brothers. However, that was it, which surprised me a bit. Usually with family series, we meet all of the siblings at the beginning even if we don’t get in depth with any of them right away. It would have been nice to meet all of the siblings so we can start investing in their stories beforehand. In the epilogue, we find out that Edward’s parents have been married 50 years but why didn’t we meet them before? Edward seemed to be very big on family, but we really didn’t get to know much about his. The same goes for Reeve as well, we know about her previous relationship and his family, but we didn’t know much about her biological family except they didn’t have a lot of money to grow up.
While it was a nice love story, there was definitely a lot more potential and I just wish that we got a bit more backstory on both of these characters. I liked them but I didn’t love them, and with a bit more backstory I feel they would have won me over even more. I’m holding out hope that the next book, On Fire, will rectify this. On Fire was recently released, so I’ll be tackling that in a couple of days and a review should be up soon.
Let’s Do It by Ann Christopher is a part of a series though it can be read as a standalone. For those of you who like small town romances, this book is short and to the point and can be read on a lazy evening after work.
Has anyone else read Let’s Do It, what did you think?
Reeve Banks returns to Journey's End with a lot of emotional baggage and guilt. When she is rescued by handsome Edward Harper, she is tempted to let go of the past and the burdens weighing her down. Edward has his own problems, though. Between these two protagonists, every nuance of guilt, emotional burdens, melancholy and indecisiveness was used - and I ran out of my imaginary tiny violins about half way into the book. It was not as bad as this may sound, but all the darkness, all the negativity, was too much for me - and quite honestly, a bit difficult to believe. Although the protagonists were still quite likeable (they did have their moments), and the plot was not bad at all, I did not take to the way it was told, too much to-ing and fro-ing, too much drama for my taste. All in all, not that bad, nothing I would not finish reading, but I have read better books with a similar plot that were just more interesting. I am sorry, maybe I was just not in the right mood for this book.
I literally laughed out loud as I read the beginning of this book. However, after the first few chapters, the book went a bit stale. It had the potential to be a great book but so much was rushed and left opened.
I bought this book a year ago and never read it until this week. Still, I had a problem reading it. I kept picking it up and putting it down. I should have finished this book in a couple of days at most, but it took me over two weeks to read it. the book wasn't what I expected. It's a contemporary, African-American romance
Reeve and Edward meet because Reeve has a flat tire. Edward stopped to help her. They both were drawn to each other immediately. For some reason, she refused all his offers of help. It started raining so Edward went and sat in his car but didn't leave. He couldn't leave anyone on the side of the road. Finally, Reeve asked for his help. He told her to sit in his car while he fixed her flat. She saw a black ring box and knew it contained an engagement ring. Her spare was flat also so he couldn't fix it. Her friend finally came to pick her up.
Edward went on to Journey's End and never expected to see her again. He thought of her constantly all day and wished he had gotten her phone number. Reeve also went to Journey's End and she also thought of Edward but never expected to see him again.
They both had serious issues to confront. Reeve was a widow and was full of guilt. She didn't love her husband enough to have a child with him. He pushed her about having a baby and she told him that. He was in the military and went to war and was killed two years ago. His mother also hated her.
Edward had dated Amber for seven years and had a baby with her. He bought a ring but knew he couldn't ask her to marry him. Meeting Reeve and feeling the attraction for her let him know that he had made the right decision. In spite of the problems with Amber, he knew he loved Reeve. I felt sorry for Amber. She spent seven years with Edward and had a child with him and even finally quit her job to move to Journey's End. She expected a proposal but was told by Edward their relationship was over. Then she finds out that he's in love with someone he's only known a week. She was bitter but should have known Edward wasn't in love with her which is probably the reason she finally moved to the Journey's End.
Reece and Edward kept running into each other in Journey's end but their issues kept them apart. Even after being together one night, Reeve couldn't admit that she loved Edward. After a few misunderstandings, they both dealt with their issues and admitted their love for each other. Yes, there's a HEA.
This is one the worst books I've ever read. I have never disliked a MMC love interest as much as Edward. He is super charming initially, but then he says and does some of the most immature, rude, and borderline abusive shit that is completely appalling. It's not part of the story where his behavior is acknowledged and then worked through by the characters, it's just supposed to be acceptable.
This honestly feels like it was written by a man writing under a woman's name. Or at the very least, a woman heavily influenced by misogyny. I usually hate giving bad reviews, but I have to warn others away from wasting hours of their lives reading this book. Unless you are attracted to mediocre and rude men that lack empathy, I do not recommend. In my opinion, that's easy enough to experience in real life; no need to read a book about it.
Examples WITH SPOILERS**** -When Reeve and Edward sleep together for the first time, he grabs her arm right after it's over and demands to know if she had been thinking about her LATE HUSBAND. WHAT?! -He treats his ex/mother of his child horribly. I understand that sometimes you're just with the wrong person, but this is a fictional book. Why choose to make him so unlikeable in such a variety of ways??? -As Reeve is trying to rush to her mother-in-law's deathbed, Edward is asking her when he will see Reeve again. WHAT?!? -Edward says, "I could never marry a woman who couldn't cook." Gross. -Edward basically forces Reeve to tell him that she loves him. If this was a dark romance or something, this might be acceptable, but it's not. It was bizarre and controlling.
This was really quick, in love in two seconds, short read, unbelievably understanding male lead that has a 10-month old, got out of a relationship that morning, and by that afternoon knows he wants the girl he just met. In a lot of ways I should've hated this book but I didn't, instead I found myself hopeful for Edward and Reeve. It's most likely because I can't help but love a story where the man is in deep and Edward was clearly that along with the vulnerability that comes with being the one who puts themselves out there first. I'm glad he kept trying because Reeve wasn't as convinced as quickly, even if she did go home with him the night they met. Their intensity was engaging and Edward's consistent shell shocked countenance whenever he saw Reeve was cute.
Some things that I thought would make the story better, more background on Reeve's demons when it came to her relationship with her husband. I didn't really like reading the book and Reeve having flashbacks to stuff that happened in the past without the why to go along with it. The families could've been developed and more prominent, I actually don't even know where Reeve's parents were or if she had other relatives or siblings.
Edward and Reeve experienced a real connection upon first contact despite the baggage both were carrying from her past and his recent present. Despite the things she was hanging on to Edward was all in almost from the whopper of a kiss he bestowed on her after encountering her for the second time in the same day. After much trials a baby he did not tell her about at the beginning of their budding relationship with her guilt about her past relationship with her deceased husband and a strained relationship with her mother-in-law these two finally made it to their happily ever after. This second book in this series did not disappoint me in the least. Another great book/story Ms Christopher, truly great story.
I have to echo some of the comments in other reviews. . . this could've been a really great book and the opener was laugh-out-loud funny. But then it seemed to morph into an angsty tear-jerker, and from there it got sadly predictable and kinda boring. For a woman who was a pediatric doctor-in-residency and a hero who's a vet, they both had zero work-life stuff going on. Our hero threw over his first love and mother of his child literally minutes before meeting and falling in love with the heroine? Really?? And the heroine was annoyingly indecisive. The writing was really solid and the book had great moments. But overall I was disappointed. Like the book never figured out what it was really supposed to be.
On the one hand, I'm not usually a fan of insta-love. On the other, this was sooo good I couldn't resist.
4.5 stars
I loved Reeve. I loved that she realised something was wrong and she got counseling. I loved that The Black was male. I loved her sense of humor.
Edward was a little harder for me, as he fell headlong into love without hesitation. Who does that? But he was sweet and hot and also made mistakes and won me over in the end.
I found Ella's appearance in chapter 15 (!) a little jarring, but I got over it :)
Standalone. 3rd person dual pov. No violence. Steamy.
This book wasn’t terrible, but was average and felt rushed. It was a very predictable book from the very beginning but I was still interested in seeing how it played out. The amount of free time these characters have is pretty unrealistic but another thing I can over look. The most bothersome part of this book to me was the FMC abandoning her best friend during a break up crisis. At first it was because her mother in law was dying, and then she ran to the MMC for the rest of the weekend while her best friend was staying at her place distraught. No other mention of the best friend until predictably, we find out she is married to the brother of the MMC. This one just fell pretty flat for me.

Sheesh! Talk about HOT! This delightful book is just one hot coupling after the other. Our couple is delightfully fleshed out, as are the characters around them..
It's strangers into lovers with no time wasted on inconsequential padding, and this is erotic writing at its best, never descending into porn, and with a satisfying HEA.
Another to join my read-again favourites on my digital bookshelf, and I definitely want to read more of Ann Christopher's work.
Love at first sight... Possible? Edward and Reeve would say yes. Edward first meets Reeve when he stops to offer help changing her tire. She gives him a hard time before having to ask for his help. They go their separate ways, but fate steps in and they run into each other two more times that day. Their journey is entertaining and refreshing. Edward openly shares his feelings, something you don't see often, and Reeve is holding on to her past. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
This is a fun read! You immediately like Edward and Reeve from their first encounter. Edward immediately knows . Reece knows but she has survivor's guilt and sense of inadequate to overcome before she can allow herself to live in the present and embrace her joy. Their journey is interesting and holds your attention to the last page. I was surprised when I turned the page and I was to the epilogue.
Pretty good romance, and a nice start to a series. Lots of side characters introduced in this one that will clearly be getting their own books as the series progresses. I was a little disturbed by how quickly the two leads ended up in bed together, but that was mitigated a bit by the fact that in the story they were also concerned by that same thing, reflecting what should have been an obvious reaction of the reader. But it all works out in the end.
I couldn’t put this book down! I loved the story of two strong, independent people finding each other and instantly recognizing their soul’s match; regardless of past performance, regardless of past pain. I enjoyed the surprise that Edward had a daughter, and how she only added to his love of Reeve. The timeline was a little fast at times, to be entirely plausible, but having been in one half of a love at first sight I can understand that sometimes time isn’t really a factor.

Reeve was just beginning her new life when her car had a flat tire on her drive. An awesome BMW suv stopped, she was alarmed. However what got out sent her heart racing. Edward was returning from a trip of dread but knew from seeing Reeve his life was forever changed. They both had baggage that could have destroyed them both but in Journey's End their new beginnings had just begun. Heat and love hit them fast and furious. Loved this read and it's author.
I enjoyed this story on a few different levels. It is a sweet, well-written love story. It is shaped by the guilt that can stunt the one left behind for years. And lastly, it shows how even smart people can be captive to irrational thoughts. Light and well-crafted with great characters. Nice.
I skipped through this instant attraction/ fall in love romance and skimmed a few parts too as it fizzled out for me. There’s some guilt depression thrown in but corny was my over ruling conclusion. I wish Reeve and Edward joy in their mutual kayaking, shared reading taste, skin tingling touch etc etc
I enjoyed this book. Dr Reeve Banks had returned to Journeys End to finish her residency. She needed to find closure on her marriage to her now deceased husband. She meets a veterinarian named Edward Harper. They had a whirlwind romance. He was a parent to a young daughter named Ella. It was great how everything came together.
This was a fast paced story. It's heart felt. Edward and Reeve each had there own history. Edward put his heart on his sleeve and told Reeve upfront how he felt about her. She eventually let her past go to give Edward her heart and love. It was a very enjoyable story.
I love a good love story, and this is one that is just that. There are ups and downs, but the story progressed in a truly delightful way. I like to read the characters as though they were like me; with similar feelings and emotions. I was swept up in this story from beginning to end! A delightful read.
Excellent read. This book was so well written that you could feel the good, the scary times and all the emotions that Edward and Reeve were going through. Edward handled the situation with his ex (also mother of his child) very well and truthful. It was good to see Reeve finally let go of the dark feelings she carried for so long. I loved 🥰 it.
OH MY, what a great book. Haven't read her before but I will be reading her again. Funny, entertaining and had me from the beginning. The characters were smart, thoughtful and explained there thought process. It was great to understand where they were coming from. READ This BOOK!
What can I say! This was a great read - one that I finished almost in one sitting. It spoke to my heart and soul and I loved that it recognized topics that we don't speak about in the African American community - depression, death and dying. Would highly recommend this book.
This story will make you think it can be. Complete with lots of complications like girlfriends, ex’s, children, new jobs, butting-in family with their opinions and the like to complicate the trip to true love.
Book #2 was just as good as the 1st Book! This book made me start to believe that there is such a thing as love at first sight. I loved Reeves and Edwards whirlwind romance. I can't wait to read #3 to see what happens with Ethan and Sofia!
Loved this book. The characters were brave and bold. I enjoyed how Edward was written. He wouldn't let Reeve get too inside her head. He made her face her fears. We could all use someone like that in our life.
