💀 Character Development: between Deep/Memorable and Iconic/Unforgettable (4.5★). Jim’s character seemed to have taken a dark turn in this book, just like Rick’s did in The Walking Dead... but for some reason Jim’s rubbed me the wrong way. Rick’s I could see certain events that turned him, but Jim’s seemed sudden between book 6 and 7... unless I just forgot something major in book 6.
💀 Originality of Subplots: Inventive twists, but not brilliant (4★)
💀 Plausibility of Collapse/Fallout: Terrifyingly plausible (5★)
💀 Reader Engagement: Hard to stop, but not sleep destroying (4★)
💀 Emotional Impact: Gut punches, but not life-altering (4★)
💀 Human Behavior Under Stress: You see yourself in the worst choices (5★)
💀 World-Building: Between Rich and Immersive and You Practically Smell the Ashes (4.5★)
💀 Theme Strength: Sharp insights, but not deep philosophical aftershocks (4★). I actually captured a quote for the first time in this series: “Everyone in Washington was familiar with the idea of not letting a good crisis go to waste.” It’s Naomi Klein’s Shock Doctrine
💀 Overall End-of-World Vibes: Dystopia with Depth, but not Apocalypse as an Art (4★).
