Gods & Monsters #2

The Fallen Queen

Rate this book
Even immortality can have its tragedies.

Jane’s impressive powers allowed her to secure her family’s safety but at a terrible cost. Now, with a message from two mysterious beings, a new series of trials begins on Jane’s heart, mind, and soul.

The plague was just the beginning. Thrust among the most wicked creatures, she will learn more truths about the myths and monsters of her world while also discovering the extent of the power she holds. However, it is the source of her power that is her most evil rival and, this time, Death will not be there to save her. She will have to face her inner demon and new enemies all on her own.

Death’s absence gives Lucifer a greater opportunity to acquire Jane than ever before. His interest in her is unclear but one thing is certain, he desires to see her fall. Perhaps, though, that has been Jane’s destiny all along.

How else can darkness end if she, the most evil monster of them all, remains?

TRIGGER WARNING: Sexual assault, abuse, a plethora of mental illness talk, and also I get really angry

DNF at like... 35% or something. Don’t remember and I already took it off my kindle.

It’s rare I am able to stop myself from finishing something, even if it takes a really, really (really) long time. But, fortunately (or unfortunately?) I was able to stop here. And I was able to stop because reading this was making me so fucking angry.

I don’t quite remember how I came across this series, to be honest. It was either on Facebook or twitter and I kept seeing it go around and the covers were REALLY pretty and I guess there was enough to interest me, cause I picked up all three books and whatever side novel or whatever there is. And they ruminated in my kindle library, the way most books do when I look upon them and tell them I’ll read them one day, and on a whim I decided to start reading book one. Coincidentally, this was shortly after the corona virus became a major problem in my state. I’ve always had a knack for timing, it seems.

Anyway. I didn’t write a review for book one, but I didn’t like it. And I liked book two even less, so I’ll review them together.

The characters are the easiest target. I’m saving them for last.

The world building is... weird? Some of it I was able to follow along with, but this was such a melting pot of religions and theology and it was all confusing. And there was the Knights of the Round Table for... some reason. And they’re all vampires. Mostly. Every time something new got added, my first thought was “...but why.” And the answer? Don’t know. I really don’t. This is such a confusing web we’ve weaved and I... it’s not the worst world building I’ve seen, but it’s nothing impressive.

Plot. I... don’t know what the plot was. We have an apocalypse happening and Jane gets weird and then gets infected, runs away... is turned into a vampire. After that, there’s some fighting but there’s really no plot after Jane is turned. There’s some waffling about being a vampire and being attracted to Death and David and some...thing? with Lucifer. And at the end of book one, her entire family is forced to relocate from their home to the vampire palace in Canada. Whatever. Then book two and I... there’s nothing happening. Jane just cries about liking people, Death is absent for some reason, all of the conflict is contrived and forced, Jane cries some more... there’s nothing really happening, actually. At all.

And now, characters. I’m saving Jane for last.

None of these characters are compelling to me. Any woman that isn’t Jane is just a mindless slut for David and/or a threat to Jane and her “relationships”. They’re all evil. This series is the epitome of internalized misogyny. Seriously. It’s very disappointing.

Death is.... um... well, he exists. Except in book two he just fucks off for some reason. I didn’t read far enough to really know why aside from “dealing with some threats” and he hangs around Jane a bit the way he used to, except this time he ignores her the entire time when she’s begging for help. What a compelling love interest.

The Knights, too, are not compelling. Dagonet might’ve been the closest one I got to liking, but he died so he doesn’t count anymore. Everyone else coddles Jane, tries to push Jane and David together, or serve as punching bags as Jane tries to grow into her new vampire powers. Despite her constant transgressions, they forgive her with a smile and wave it off cause she’s David’s Other or whatever.

Jason isn’t even a believable antagonist/husband or whatever. Even in sections of his POV (and I don’t understand why we get them), he’s such a straw man of shitty and abusive husbands. I get the author wants us to hate him so Jane will go to someone else, but this is frankly ridiculous. I’m not even mad he’s such a shitty person. No, I’m mad because he’s such a shell of a character. He only exists to be bad to Jane, to right before I stopped reading, to dwell on how much he doesn’t love Jane.... he’s the cartoon villain we laugh at because of how absurd he is. Except I’m not laughing.

David is short of useless. He spends the first book and a third flirting with Jane, coddling Jane, making threats towards women and other men, being really creepily possessive, being “hot”, monologuing about how perfect Jane is, being really creepily possessive, fighting monsters, being a knight, and did I mention being really creepily possessive? He almost chokes a woman to death because she made fun of Jane. He almost murdered Jason. He growls at any man who looks at her wrong and threatens and slutshames any woman - but not Jane! - who wants him. Because how fucking dare they. If Jane wasn’t such a shitty character, I would hate him the most. But alas, I only hate him slightly less than her.

And now... Jane.

In the beginning, I wanted to feel for her. She’s in a failing marriage and struggling with two kids when the apocalypse hits. At first, she was kind of sympathetic. But then the “plot” gets rolling and I can’t... fathom her.

Let me preface the rest of my thoughts with this: I've been in shitty relationships, I have experienced sexual trauma - and other trauma - and have ptsd (plus an assortment of other mental issues). This is not someone peachy keen housewife ragging on a flawed character. And I really don’t give a fuck what the author’s disclaimer on the first book blurb was. This was not a realistic character with trauma. This is a fucking nuisance. I got to the part where she tries to engage sex with David after having a ptsd meltdown, then got furious. Furious!

Here’s the thing about Jane. She’s a child in an adult mother’s skin. She cries at literally everything

And her trauma? What trauma, honestly? The most we get is aforementioned meltdown, which comes after a full book and a third of a second! And her dumping information about her trauma in one chapter in book one, for no reason at all. There were a couple of times she mentioned disliking bathrooms, but otherwise... that was it. Most of her personality is crying and spiraling into depressive thoughts for the Melodrama and actually? Being a shitty person. This is a goddamn BRAT, throwing fits because she doesn’t get her way. She nearly rapes David on numerous occasions and doesn’t receive any real consequences for that. David forgives her, IMMEDIATELY! This is not a strong female character. She’s not even a strong character. She’s annoying, she’s fucking spoiled, and she gets away with so much shit. I feel sorry for anyone who actually looks up to her.

You know what’s even worse? The blurb and the very text go on and on (and on) about how she’s the most awful or evil person to ever exist and she’s just... not. She’s not. She’s not evil by a long shot, she’s just a whiny little kid pretending to be an adult and stringing multiple men along. I really hate this classifier, but she really is a Mary Sue. She is. And she barely develops at all in the book and a third I’ve read her in.

Anyway like I said I stopped reading this about a third through book two and I’m going to see about getting a refund for at least book three. This was a pain to read through and some of the worst “romance” and characterization I’ve ever seen. Maybe I’ll try to stomach reading the spinoff book, but honestly? I doubt it.

Where to even begin? Gods and Monsters book one was like a rollercoaster ride, it shook you up, made you feel like your insides were going to come out of your mouth and you were gonna vomit all over the place while simultaneously crying and laughing like a maniac. It's hard to believe you even survived it. All of that is nothing compared to book two, The Fallen Queen. No, The Fallen Queen was like base jumping out of a fucking plane. Without a parachute, butt ass naked with the whole world watching, just praying you have some kind of trick up your non existent sleeve like super strength or the ability to fly. Book two of Janie Marie's Gods and Monsters trilogy had me on my knees begging for the main character Jane's pain to end and for the perfect David and the seemingly unstoppable Angel of Death to swoop in and make all of it better with a few bandaids and some steamy make out sessions. Well, be prepared for that NOT to happen. Be prepared to laugh like a maniac and cry tears of blood or acid or something that hurts because goddamn are you going to have your heart ripped out and left bare. If a book doesn't pull you in like a riptide and leave you gasping for breath, then it's not worth the read, and this book does that and so much more. I thought I was prepared, but it may honestly be too much to prepare for. So grab a box of tissues, maybe some bandaids and a clean pair of panties, because you are in for an action filled, groundbreaking, sexually frustrating, blood splattering hell of a ride.

The second installment of the Gods & Monsters trilogy is everything I hoped for and much more. soo much action, adventure, romance, heartbreak and lots of tears. We see Jane experience all the emotions in the human heart and the author write them soo magnificent that you feel them too. Jane is not your average heroine amd The Fallen Queen is not your typical vampire book. For me was a no sleep the day I started reading because Is one of those books you cannot put down even at 5am in the morning. I don't whant to give anything away but if you read Gods & Monsters you see how Jane and her Hotties go on the relationship roller-coaster and if you haven't read the previous book YOU MUST read it. Looove how Janie Marie uses different mythology in her trilogy, If you are Fan of Vampires and Ancient myths and Gods like I am this is a book for you.

I rarely drop and do not finish a book, no matter how crap it is. I just go read it until its over.

Sure, I read the first book, and its bearable, but this book, is in a league of its own. IT IS SO BAD. WTF WAS THAT. Look, it has the makings of a good story. I like Angels, Demons, Vampires, Gods, but all in one book?! Nothing makes sense! Is this a reverse harem gone to hell?! Plus the most annoying heroine ever written! WTF is wrong with this heroine? All she does is cry, dry hump and stare into space. Even the male protagonists are annoying... well maybe except Death.

Sad that I can’t give it 0 stars! It deserves it!
Save yourself, stay away from this one!

Where do I start….I wanted so badly to get over the first book and love this one. Unfortunately it was the same as the first. Jane hates herself, Jane cried and doubts herself, David heals and loves her unconditionally, Then she goes back to hating herself because he loves her.
This book was written in the shadow of the author’s own trauma and that fine, but us who have similar trauma in the book are not sad little victims. The author portrays women who have suffered from all forms of abuse as Fragile broken things, and we are not.
The story line is there. The plot is amazing. The way it was written….was a miss.
Spice is a 🌶🌶
Noncon at parts
Severe emotional and mental abuse
Bestiality in the end.
I have no triggers, but please know something about the abuse and crippling mental disorders before you try to write 3 books on them.
Will I read the last one…yeah cuz my husband bought them for me. All in all I have beautiful decor for my book shelves.
Sorry y’all, I tried.

I really wanted to read this trilogy, I loved the fact that all the legends and myths are mentioned, and everything is well tough. However, the main character Jane is really boring, she’s crying all the time, really self-centered, she wants everyone to love her, to always be here for her but she doesn’t show the same patience and love that other give her.
The love triangle is the same : boring. Jane can’t make up her mind, make everyone suffer, and at the end of the book I couldn’t really stand most of the characters. I will try to read the last book, because I’m planning to read WAOTBBW.

The Fallen Queen is the second installment, in Gods And Monsters trilogy is here to shake your world upside down.
And I am so grateful to have been chosen to read the Advanced Reader Copy, i.e., ARC of The Fallen Queen.
And I could not have been more proud of this book and the most wonderful author, Janie Marie's ability to make you feel things like never before. She continues to amaze me, with how much life she breathes in this book, with just her words.
If you thought the first book was an emotional roller coaster, I can assure you that this book is here pushing up that benchmark way higher (May God provide us with strength for the 3rd book). This book is so much more intense, it will cut your heart out and leave it to bleed.
I personally had to read the book in breaks, because I kept feeling so much at the same time. Every single emotion is so beautifully described and written, you will leave connected to each and every character, in the end. This book had me speechless and a mumbling mess at the same time.
Just a little heads up, you will most definitely feel a strong urge to throw the book or whatever device you are reading it on, across the room. In short, some characters will test your patience.
Now on a personal level, I connected with Jane much more than I did in the first book. Her journey is not an easy one, but it's worth everything and much more, when you realise how strong, kind, forgiving, loving and caring she is. And that no matter what you are going through, you can be too. I really believe all of us can find some part of Jane, in ourselves. I find her in myself, when she chooses to fight, even when giving up is so much easier. I find my loved ones sharing her insecurities and fears, which makes me love them even more fiercely than David. She is a character, you cannot help but love to bits and pieces.
This book had me rooting for each and every character, at one point or the other, be it be Death, David or Jane. I was on the sidelines, cheering them all on, in my mind, while looking crazy in the real world. That being said, nothing will ever change the fact that I am always going to be on Team Jane.
This book has so much more than just vampires, werewolves and zombies. I felt so giddy, when my favourite Norse Gods were brought to life in this book. I especially love how all the characters just fit in perfectly. They are so amazingly woven together. It's so enthralling, when you kind of step back and think about how big G&M family is.
This book will make you feel like you cannot put it down, but also you will never want it to end. That's how you know you have got the right kind of book in your hands, my friend.
If you haven't started Jane's journey, you are missing out on so much adventure, heartbreak, and love beyond your imagination.
So go on and tag along with Jane on her journey! I strongly recommend it!
I cannot wait to have this book on my shelf next to the first one. I am dying to see what Janie has in store for us with the third book which is The Light Bringer.

Gods & Monsters saved me before. Now, The Fallen Queen kept me sane. ❤

Dumbfounded. A word that truly suits how I was after I finish reading The Fallen Queen.
Still stunned to even think, it took time for me to start this review. I’m cramming for words as I write.
Overwhelming emotions from the start. My heart beats faster as I read the first part of it. You suddenly find tears falling in your eyes. Then next thing you know you’re smiling, giggling, laughing like an idiot. A turmoil of emotions. Cry, be frustrated, laugh, be excited, be sad, be giddy, be pissed, mourn, be loved.
If Gods and Monsters got you on a roller coaster ride, brace yourself for more than just one ride. If you survived G&M 1, be tougher enough to survive The Fallen Queen for it will give you the ups and down, twist and turn on your insides, crazed emotions that could make or break you. There’s no doubt that Janie Marie has that special magic/touch in writing her stories. I am beyond thrilled, grateful and honored to received an Advanced Reader Copy.
The characters and plot had evolve more you’ll hate to not love and embrace every part of it. Those additional characters you meet will thrill you. I even googled them myself. 😂 The characters and story gave more depth as you came to the end of the final chapter. As much as I want to say more about your favorite lead characters(trust me I have so much in mind I don’t even know how or where to start) I guess I’ll leave it all to yourself to find out what happened to them. 😉
But there will always be an exemption though. Jane. I am still in awe with her. I “something” her so much more in here. She falls through the darkest coldest scariest wicked and hopeless realm in her life but she’s always fighting to come out and get back up again and again. Stronger and braver than she could ever think. Jane will always be especial and dear to my heart.
I don’t know how to end this so I’ll just tease you with few of my favorite quotes from TFQ.
“I see beauty surrounded by darkness.”
“I will never let you end, Sweet Jane.”
“That will be the only time I let you fall, my love. Even then, I will catch you.”
“You are light hidden in darkness.” 💀💞

I absolutely LOVE this book. I have been following and reading Janie's work for a few years now and she never ceases to amaze me! The characters are always so relatable. I love the way her work mixes a little of this genre with a little of that genre. It's always been hard to catch my attention with books, but definitely not with these books. Vampires, werewolves, and Gods..oh my! Janie, you freaking rock girl! Thank you so much for giving me an ARC!

This book has originally been read by me as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy), courtesy of the author herself. What that means is that it had been sent out to all readers who participated in getting a chance to read The Fallen Queen before it's been proofread. Now, as much as it would've been likely that there'd be few errors here and there, what makes this book really special to me as a G&M reader is that all I could really focus on was the context of the whole novel.

Forget the punctuation mistakes and let me just focus on the character, Jane, and how much she's been through since she was just a child and here she is facing even more terror, grief, and pain. Forget the grammatical errors and let me focus on the writing itself, in how powerful each and every word was and how much it impacted me and my emotions. In how it brought tears to my eyes, how it hurt my sensitive heart, how much it angered me to see the turmoil each and every one of the characters, Jane only being one of the many, had gone through to this point...and there's still more.

Forget any dumb errors in general and let me just focus on the fact that this book wowed me beyond belief and needs to be in the hands of every single person that can relate to Jane, David, Jason, and heck, I can't believe I'm saying this but even the freaking Angel of Death!! He's completely unique in every single way and yet there's a part of him in his character that a lot of us readers can just get...we can see how much the author has made him as real and powerful as he already is.

I am not some professional who can critic well and give a more detailed review. All I am is a reader who genuinely enjoys when the author doesn't hold back when it comes to their writing. There's so much controversy over whether too much is just the right amount or never enough, and it upsets me to see this keep some authors back from truly expressing themselves as not just a writer but as a person in general.

There is...so much emotion in this book. Gods & Monsters was equally as heart-wrenching and addictive but The Fallen Queen? For me?

It goes deeper than you would think.

And I couldn't be more admirable of the fact that this author took her own personal experiences and wove it into a story of her own with characters that are so realistic, it's baffling. With scenes that'll hook you till the very end and even characters such as Lucifer and Lancelot and the evil part of Jane who hold your interest so tightly. I, personally, find that the villain(s) of the story have this kind of side that the author is successful in revealing. It's shocking for me to even think in such a way because these people are horrible beings!!! They don't deserve happiness for all the mess that they have done and the dark truths they hold but that's what makes it so interesting!! They're so complex and they're so...despicable but I love them anyways.

Does that make me a horrible person? Probably. I mean, I've always been told that my opinions do more harm than good.

But I'll just say this:

This book (the whole G&M series to be more specific) is ultimately one of the best and deserves so much recognition and just a whole bit of understanding. I could never be able to relate to what Jane and the author have been through in their lives...my childhood was bright and fun and memorable and to this day I'm still truly innocent to the ugliness of this world. But that fact didn't stop me from knowing that I'll hold the G&M series to my heart forever and be even more excited to read on more of Janie Marie's writing and how much it can affect me as a person.

The Fallen Queen is real...and even with all the fantasy, I can't help but think about how as I read...not once did I feel distant from the story.

And that's the most amazing thing about it.

I was generously provided with an ARC from the author in exchange for honest review. Any quotes used I. This review are subject to change upon completion of the novel.

The Fallen Queen was a thrilling experience for me as I was once again a participating beta reader for the lovely Janie Marie. It had been a while since I read the beginning chapters of the novel and I was delightfully surprised when re-reading as I realised this is a HELL of a book. Seriously, so much happens! If this book was on the McDonald's menu it would be a Big Mac for sure.

Like any Big Mac I'll start with the bun. The novel starts out exactly where the last one left off. Personally, I love it when books open out this way, probably because I have major FOMO. But we start with the beautiful Mr. Green Eyes and from that point he pretty much disappears for a while (I don't really know what he gets up to...he's a mysterious fellow, probably saving Jane and eating some souls).

"You're all I have, sweet Jane."

The main meat of this burger is David "White Knight" and Jane "Sweet Jane" and their blossoming love. More importantly, Jane's love. Jane is a woman that has many insecurities like all of us. I found her internal battle in this novel frankly inspiring because despite it all Jane still has the courage to love and eventually be loved in return. She starts out like this:

"I don't deserve any of them. All I do is cause pain."

And ends up like this:

"My David, I something you."

How freaking cute! Honestly, David is literally like a vampire Prince Charming...can u send me one in the mail pls DM for details lol.

I suppose the lettuce, tomatoes and all that jazz can be named as Jason, Melody and Artemis aka the ones who would win the BIGGEST drama queens of the year award. As much as I disliked them I think Jason had some very emotional scenes that exploited Janie's writing she always manages to get the tone just right, balancing the romance, anger, sadness and comedy. I find that the hardest thing to get right.

"I see you. Only you. And you will not ruin me. You make me a better man. It doesn't matter that your heart isn't mine. Mine is still yours."

Before we get onto the final part of the review I want to share with you my favourite chapters. 42 & 43. Now, don't get me wrong I'm a David girl at heart, but the chapters in Death's realm were really something else. I can't think of a word to describe them...heartbreaking, maybe? Bittersweet? Raw? They just stuck with me.

"I love you, Jane. You are my everything, and I will never want another. I would have you and call you mine right now if I could, but for now, I will wait for you."

OKAY SO THE FINAL BUN! What the hell were these chapters?? I was not emotionally prepared for the torture Luc inflicted on Jane at all. I mean of course I understand it all now, but I don't understand my feelings towards Luc. Do I hate him? Or like him? I certainly don't trust him, but I sense that he cares...

"'Would you burn with me?' He looked up. 'Yes, my queen. We will burn together.'"

So overall I feel like I need a therapist lol. All jokes aside, if there was one thing I wanted more from Gods & Monsters it was intense battles. I feel like I received that in more ways than one with this one. So congratulations, Janie! I'm so excited for the final instalment "The Light Bringer" and am ecstatic with the opportunity to work with you again!!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book in return for an honest review, and it's once again a pleasure to write a review for this series.
[Again, I won't be giving away any spoilers of information about the storyline that spoils future readers.]

For those that have read book 1 'Gods & Monsters', and if you think that one was happy just grab on because it will be a rollercoaster.
I thought about this review and what to write while reading but mostly while I was driving home after classes. I wondered what I could say that would represent the story, the book, the events that happened, and honestly, I couldn't find words that could really describe what I thought that could do justice to the book.

This all story is unique and you won't find it anywhere else. Janie created a world full of mysteries that little by little we beginning to uncover. If you guys thought there was a lot of question in the 1st book, 'The Fallen Queen' will answer some of them and still give you the powerful and epic moments that makes us hooked to all the motions and going on that rollercoaster with the characters. And we do this while getting deeper and deeper in all the mythology of the book and in all the mysteries and action scenes combined with all the sweet moments or even the "What the hell just happened?"

I could say a lot more, but if you are reading this review you have probably already read the first book and are thinking if this one is worth reading or not. I'm not here to judge if you go read it or not,but I can tell you that you should. You will found out things that you weren't expecting, things my became clearer (I'm not saying you will get the answers you need, I'm saying if you want to know, you should read)... plus, this book gets deeper in the storyline, deeper in the characters lives and problems, deeper in the way they choose to act and react.

I totally recommend the book, especially if you like reading books that are unique or just outside of your comfort zone.

I'm honored to have helped out Janie and to have been a part of this all process and I can't wait to have the final book 'The Light Bringer' in my hands and Kindle app.

So, if you want an epic story full of uncertainties, questions, an all different combination of mythology aspects and some very fun and action full epic moments, and you haven't read the 1st book, stop readying this review and go grab the first book, then grab the second and continue to fell in love with the character, be mad at them too. (I was mad at them at some point too) Just don't be scare and give it a chance.

And a message to Janie: Thank you, Janie! You are awesome and brilliant!

Big hugs from a Portuguese reader,
Jéssica

I read an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Also I'm gonna write this review without spoilers.

This book will live up to all your expectations. It's book 2 of the Gods & Monsters series and it's just as good if not better than the first. In true Janie Marie fashion you'll be taken through the entire range of emotions. You'll read a part of the book and have to take a breath just to be able to get through your emotions of anger, pure joy or overwhelming sadness, but that's what makes this such a good book.

Where in book 1 you get introduced to the premise of the story, the characters and the situation. Book 2 really goes off on a rocket. It does add a few more character, while giving you a bit more of characters that haven't been in the picture a lot in book 1. It'll still raise a lot of questions like in the first book, but answers a few here and there as well. Although to really understand everything we have to wait for book 3, of course you can't give everything away yet!

We've already established in book 1 that the story in combination with the characters and how much is going on is not for everyone. There's subjects that are breached that some people can not take, characters that annoy the crap out of you (which is the sign of a good book if you ask me) and moments where you just want to throw the whole book out a window. But if you're reading this review there's a good chance you've read book 1 and are still interested. In that case I'd say to you, read the second book. You'll love it!

I've been through this book twice now and I will never get sick of the story or the characters, they've almost become part of my life.

There's still a book coming so it's not the full closure yet, but still well worth the read! I recommend this series to everyone that need a good story that will stay with them well after they've read it.

TRIGGER WARNING. Yikes. Lots of SA & then some. This is HARDLY spicy, so disappointed. The story line is a hot mess and is very hard to follow at times. There is also so much filler, this book DID NOT need to be 500 pages. I skimmed a lot. I’m a huge fan of myth and legends but she jammed everyone she could think of into the book and then made them all vampires.

Would you like to know what happened to the human race & the zombie apocalypse that’s also happening in the background? I would also love to know. It was hardly brought up.

Still debating on reading the third book, I’ve read reviews that have said it’s even worse and that she must have been high when she wrote it. And it’s over 600 pages which is insane. These books could have easily been 300 pages.

I personally don’t recommend.

I love vampire books and this trilogy had such great reviews that I thought for sure it would be a winner for me. The story line held a lot of promise; unfortunately, I just couldn't relate to the characters at all. They were all pretty much a mess, the main female character crying and depressed 90% of the time, and I ended up skimming more than I read. I made it through two books, but I won't be reading the third.

Jane's whiney, self-righteous, blubbering really annoyed me, but oddly, I still love the storyline. So I kept going. I'll read the last one, just because I want to see how she dies.

If you're reading this review, you want to see if buying the second installment of the Gods and Monsters trilogy is worth your while - it is! (Or you're in search of a good book in which case - go find Gods and Monsters, it's book one)

To sum up pretty much everything I'm trying to say below (for those who want a quick review) : "A stunning novel. It kept my mind in a constant whir of excitement to keep reading. A riveting experience."

WOW! The author of this trilogy will honestly blow your mind! She manages to intertwine the most bizarre things into her work. If you're a fan of Mythology, Romance, Action, and at times really gory stuff, this book is for you. So many questions from G&M are answered in book two. We were left hanging, but trust me, it's worth it.

Yes, the G&M trilogy is not for everyone, but coming from a person who honestly thought she (me) would hate it, I can tell you I was surprised. My mind gets boggled over and over and over again. The minute you think, "Okay, I get this. I'm sure this will happen. GREAT this finally happened..." etc. BOOM, Janie [The author] throws something else in there. I can't describe how many times my mouth was left hanging open, or I was clutching a pillow balling my eyes out, or laughing/smiling ridiculously because of this novel.

I am trying to remain vague, because it's the type of book where if I say anything, there is a HUGE possibility that I will spoil something for you.

The Fallen Queen is SOMETHING (read the book, and you'll understand my hint) that everyone with an open mind can love!

Yes there is a love triangle, but then again, there isn't. It's not your typical love story, it's not your typical book. It is something entirely different. Something that takes a special kind of person to understand, and accept. Do yourself a favour - Be a special kind of person. This novel opens your mind up to so many different, but wonderful things. It reinforced something I believed in strongly - DON'T jundge until you've heard the WHOLE story.

I loved the book. I know many people can't understand why Jane is the way she is, but like I said, a special type of person will. I hold Jane near and dear to my heart. I am #TeamJane all the way.

In this book, you will constantly want to know more. Understand more. This book is just more. At the end I was left feeling amazed that I could end up liking some characters and hating others, where I should technically have been feeling the opposite.

Take it from me, if you enjoyed book 1 enough to be looking at this long AF review- You will LOVE book two. So far, it's my favourite.

From the very first page of this book, there’s just this indescribable undercurrent of tension that does not disappear throughout the entire story - and it’s a massive one! There are points where it eases but, even then, you’re wondering what’s going to happen next because not having that tension makes it feel like something even bigger is coming - and it usually is. I mean, if you thought the zombies, vampires and werewolves of Gods and Monsters were the baddest of the bad, you have no idea what is coming for you. We finally get to see Camelot and move from our world into the world of Gods and Monsters, and it’s pretty damn amazing! This book goes from one fight to the next, and I love that it doesn’t just focus on the fights with the enemies from the outside - Jane’s greatest opponent is the demon within, and watching her fight that darkness all throughout the book is such an amazing journey. There’s a triumph in every fall she takes because she almost always manages to stand on her feet once again. It’s also so nice that no one tries to fix her because she’s broken. When we break we’re not meant to be put back together as if nothing ever happened, we’re meant to wear the cracks - the scars - and be proud that we made it. Jane may not be proud yet, but I think she’ll get there, and that’s the beauty of it.

I’d recommend this book to anyone with supernatural, paranormal, fantasy, action and / or romance interests, especially big mythology fans like me - you will not be disappointed. It’s dark too, you should be prepared to go to Hell and back, but it’s worth it. Oh, and Asmodeus is mine ;)

If you think Gods & Monsters was really good then you'll be even more amazed with The Fallen Queen. Expect another rollercoaster of a journey. If anything a much more intense one. I don't think I can express how amazing of a job Janie Marie did on writing TFQ just like G&M. You can only expect great things with her writing.
TFQ takes you deeper into the world Janie has created and you find yourself falling farther. But you can't help loving it regardless of the wide range of emotions you feel. You're too deep in and hooked to want to do anything else but continue reading. G&M and TFQ are on my top favourite books to read and I know the third book will follow too.
To the readers who are scared to venture out into a book that you won't normally read know that you won't be making a mistake when you give Janie's books a chance. You'll love every second you spend reading because you aren't just reading a book that's great. You're feeling, you're connecting, you're on the journey that Jane is on and lastly you're getting a part of your author in there too.
I hope to anyone that is reading this takes that step and discovers the world our wonderful author Janie Marie has created and shared for us all to be a part of.

I was so graciously gifted the ARC copy of TFQ, and I’m so grateful for it. In the past I had referred to Gods and Monsters as a rollercoaster of emotions, but that was before I read TFQ. This book blew G&M out of the water in terms of drama, emotion, and action. It had me reacting and feeling in ways a book had never given me before. I cried, I cringed, I face palmed, I got pissed, and then I cried again. All the emotional turmoil is completely worth it, though. Jane, David, and others who shall not be named, have an amazing story and journey throughout this book. It’s unusual, it’s both heartwarming and heartbreaking depending on the page, and it’s definitely not like any other book I have ever read. It’s almost as if you have two books in one. The turmoils and discoveries are so different in the first half from the second half, that when I went back to chapter one, I had to go back and check because I had thought I accidentally opened G&M again. That’s part of what makes the story so great, though. There’s never a dull moment, and you’ll never get bored. The strength of every single character is pushed to the absolute limits. Who will fall and who will overcome these challenges? You’ll have to read and find out!

Amazing! I absolutely loved it so much I couldn't put it away and stayed up late nights just to read and finish it and I'm reading it again, it's one of those books where you want to know the end but you also don't want it to end! Good thing there a book 3 in this series💚🙏🏽 I thought book one was a book that none other could win over, but this has become number one for me and that says a lot as I read book one at least 6 times since it has come out. I'm excited for the release of book 3 and can't wait to see what it's gonna do to me and just how things are gonna go in there! And my birthday twin David , this book made me fall in love with him so much more than I already had been it just amazes me what Janie the author is able to create and how she makes us fall uncontrollably in love with all the characters and just in general makes it seem like I'm in there with them 😍
In summary I LOVED it ❤️💙💚and give it a 10/10 rating! Everyone who hasn't read needs to get on this trilogy ASAP trust you won't regret it one bit

The Fallen Queen is the second book in the Gods & Monsters trilogy, and just like the first book, it does not disappoint. It's hard to pin a certain genre to it, because it's so much more than fantasy or romance.
The main character, Jane, is a tortured soul, to say the least. She's incredibly flawed and will never be a perfect heroine, but she doesn't need to be. In a world that's crumbling to pieces, all she needs to do is survive. That means she's got some inner demons to fight, some wickedly delicious men to keep her company, and creatures in the night waiting to destroy her. There's never a dull moment in Jane's life (or should I say afterlife?).
If you're looking for a book with a perfect heroine that does everything right and saves everyone, including herself, then you might need to find another book. Jane isn't perfect, but she's willing to sacrifice herself for those she loves. So if what you're looking for is a twisty tale of self-healing and love and fighting the not-so-dead...well you might just want to pick up this book.

I have been reading Janie's work for a while now, specifically another book and now this series all which I've found to be excellent books! I received this as an advanced reader copy and was a fantastic gift. This girl is sooo amazing, never fails to amaze her readers with terrific plot lines that keep you hooked and forget your reality only to be immersed in the feelings and all the emotions of the characters which are conveyed through her spectacular writing! Her story is a mastery of the right amount of normality of characters personas and supernatural elements, tying them together to produce a one of a kind mythology novel. The characters progression is astounding and brings about a constant anticipation which she finely delivers !!! Its like we're in the journey together with the characters and getting through everything with them!!! It really brings out the best of emotional roller coasters - the tears, crying, laughter, smiles, jokes and really all the feels!!!!!

I received an ARC of this book, I was in awe when I finished the first book in the series. I loved Jane like she was a part of my life. So when I got the chance to read The Fallen Queen early, I freaked out. I was scared the book wouldn't live up to my expectations, but it blew them out of the water. This book has everything you want in a book - drama, truth, struggles, and strength. You experience all of the up's and downs that Jane experiences as if they're your own. You can't help but want to keep reading. I couldn't put the book down, I was upset when it ended. There were so many unexpected twists and turns I didn't know how to handle. Overall I loved the book, I love the characters, and mostly I love the author. I'm so excited to continue this journey, and be apart of a world that Janie Marie has created. I'm thankful for this experience.

I was one of the lucky people who received an ARC of this book. I totally fell in love with the first book of this trilogy, Gods and Monsters, and I couldn't see how anything could be better. This book was!! I loved every second of it! It took me longer to read because I was an emotional wreck while I was reading, and I didn't want it to be over... I love reading about mythology, vampires and Gods and if you do too, this is the book to choose. The characters draw you in.. you fight along side them, cry with them and feel their pain. Janie is a phenomenal writer and she will forever be one of my favorite authors. So, YES!.. it is a great idea to read this book!! Read it and sink into a world that will stay with you forever. It's one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I would like to say I love the ARC I read. It kept me reading from the first page to the very last . I couldn't put it down. It is the second book in a series of three books. I love how they flow together. this one picks up where book 1 left off you continue the story of Jane's battle with herself, her love's and of course the battle continues against evil. You get to meet new people along the journey. most of the old friends and some foes are still around . I highly recommend this book. I would go on and on but I don't like giving spoilers. I love this book and can't wait to own it . very well written and keeps you wanting more every time you turn the page.

The much awaited book 2 of the G&M series is not to my suprise a page turner. I couldn't keep my phone down until I finished it of. I had received an ARC so I was lucky enough to get to read it before it's release. But I've purchased the final released book and am gonna read it again😁 Jane's journey has taken a massive turn in this book that we never thot would happen. The only thing that I missed in the book was that it has little of Mr.Green eye than what I was looking forward to. I really can't wait for the light bringer now. An amazing emotional roller coaster with good amount of fight & blood spilling scenes that don't get too much. I loved it❤❤❤

I mean it's Janie Marie. you can't go wrong with her books.I don't want to spoil anything for anyone but I highly recommend reading this book, but before you do...read the first "God & Monsters". Janie Marie has her own unique way of describing things such as emotions, feelings, senses, details but her way of doing so allows you to feel like your in character in the book. I find it amazing! This is more of a female book in my opinion only due to more romance in this book. Still an amazing book for anyone (Male or Female). Once again, I highly recommend this book!

Thank you so much for the ARC of the second instalment of Gods and Monsters. I read the trilogy way back when it was in wattpad and I'm so happy to finally read the edited version. I don't know where to begin or how to describe this book. It's dark, funny, heart breaking..... I can feel it in my soul!!!!!! I don't think words can give it justice. Janie Marie makes us feel through her words, it's a roller coaster of emotions and everyone should definitely have a copy of her books. You did it again Janie. CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!
