They say I'm the Dragon Fae. They say I'm the savior of our people. I know they're wrong.
My entire life I've been an assassin, but after a botched job, I'm the most wanted sorceress in the world. I lie low, taking whatever jobs I'm given. When I'm assigned a new partner, a dragon shifter named Deacon, he strides into my life like he belongs, whether I want him or not.
When the fae court declares I've fulfilled an ancient prophecy, they anoint me the Dragon Fae, the mythical savior of our people. That explains Deacon's presence. He's the Dragon Fae's fated mate. Problem is, the fae court is manipulating this sacred legend. Lies may be my trade, but I can't stand for this deception.
So I cut a deal. If Deacon and I can stop a terrorist plot, I can go back to lying low. If we fail, they'll make me the Dragon Fae. I was raised on this myth, and the most memorable part? The Dragon Fae dies young and alone — and the fae court has shown they'll do whatever it takes to make the prophecy come true.
Dragon Fae Prophecy is the first book in a fae urban fantasy series with a slow-burn romance.
This book might be fine for other people, but it pushed all my buttons. I just cannot stand a supposed badass FMC that has a spine made of wet toilet paper.
Do these people own her? Is she a slave? The author makes no attempt at explaining why she has to do what they say when she knows - and gives it to the reader clearly in her narrative - that they are corrupt fucking liars.
QUIT YOUR FUCKING JOB! Tell them to eat shit, and quit!
Don't give me a badass that bends to the whims of douchebags, authors, unless you're going to give me a goddamn compelling reason why she has to. Honestly, the implication is that they own her - there is a throwaway line where she says she was finishing up school when they showed up, told her her parents are dead, and she had to come with them. And she says that was when she became an agent. So, like, she's a slave, or what? Because she also, in her narrative, expresses that she likes her job and is proud that she's good at it because they're the good guys. So how do these two sentiments fit together?
I have no idea, and the author doesn't care to tell us, so I'm out.
I started off really liking the story even though it was a bit darker than I'm used to. There are essentially two words which is Earthside and Elustria. Nadyia is essentially in hiding but works as an assassin for a Circle member named Alistair. She's partnered with Deacon after her previous partner's untimely death. She's a sorceress and he's a dragon shifter and they're trying to uncover and stop a plot that's getting a lot of humans and Elustrians killed.
I was very much into the story and I love a few of the side characters like Pint and Harry. There is sufficient world building and a lot of plot but the story flowed very well. Where it lost me was this forced romance between Nadiya and Deacon. I don't even know if you could call it forced because one second they were just partners and then you turn the page and all of sudden there's sexual tension.
I usually do not have a problem with this but the setting has to make sense like a huge argument or someone does something stupid and the other saves them from death and all of sudden they're looking at each other differently. That is not what happened here. Deacon is essentially told Nadiya is his mate and he goes along with it like a job and she 1000% was never going to be on board with this. But then they sat down and had a deep conversation about how miserable life is and next thing you know they're imagining each other naked?? I'm sorry but it wasn't even slightly believable.
After that it seemed like the ending was just really anticlimatic and I just wanted the last 20% of the book to be over. I will not be continuing this series.

(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I completely change my mind on a series, so want to change my scoring.)
Decent idea. --
Argh. This book irritated me, because it could have been great from the premise.
First time read the author's work?: Yes
Will you be reading more?: No
Would you recommend?: No
------------ How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)
I've been wavering between a one and two star rating for all my time reading this book. But honestly I've been close to DNFing so often that I cant' really say this is an ok book. (I still wanted to trash it at 90% mark....) What I can say is that it had potential, but wasted it all. There are a really interesting story and world in there, but that's the only thing I can say. Otherwise the caracters are flat, oftentime downright stupid and cardboard, the plot is more an "author says so" than an organic thing, world building is minimal, the "romance" comes out completely out of the blue. (See heroine).
Heroine is a character I could have rooted for... if only. If only I've been given an explanation for her role. She is a liar and murderer and I'm not sure why. She accepts lies and manipulation without really fighting (even if the story is supposed to be about that), she trusts people for no apparent reasons. (They are supposed to be on her side, but lied to her for years. They are the puppet of those whom she fights against...) Let's not talk about the supposed romantic interest. That came out of the left field. Again he lies and manipulates her but hey he really believes she's the Dragon Fae so who cares. All of a sudden after pining after her lost love for years (and up to 10 pages before), literally all of a sudden there's a shift toward the hunk. The more I think about it, the more irritated I get. I was told she's something but then she behaves totally wrong for what she was told to be. It was frustating, as you don't get the why or how. Sorry so not the book for me.
DNF - quit at 40% I don't know, something about the main characters didn't resonate with me. I wanted to like the story, but the hero seemed so deceiving, I couldn't see where he could come back from that kind of behavior to change my opinion of him. The heroine, between her denials of being the prophesized Dragon Fae, & being too wrapped up in the love she ruined, for me to like her. I just couldn't enjoy the story though I tried to keep reading. I think others might like the book, it just wasn't my cup of tea.
At my age (approaching 60), life is way to short & my time is to important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.
A well.written book with some twists and turns and ultimately the start of the love that will transpire between two characters. Looking forward to next one.
I really enjoyed this book, bit it’s kind of a hard one to review. The plot was well-developed with a good flow; the story never dragged and the antagonist was a surprise. It’s a bit of a conundrum how I was drawn into the story, because I didn’t really connect with the characters or the world.
The world-building was minuscule and at times it felt like this was the second book in an existing series. About halfway through I realized the author had written a previous series in this world, but this being a new series, a bit of recap would’ve been nice.
As for the characters... I’m just not really invested in them. Any of them. I’m interested in the story and looking forward to what comes next, but the characters fell a little flat for me. That’s not necessarily a bad thing because there is a lot of room for character growth. And as far as the love interest, thank goodness it’s a ‘fated mates’ romance because there was NO chemistry between the h and H. Meh, I’m in no hurry for the romance as long as the plots remain strong.
Lastly, let’s talk about the proposed date for the release of the second book, because I can’t wrap my head around the fact that the release date is almost a year from now. Ugh. I should’ve known better than to start an unfinished series, but geez.
I don't feel very invested in the book or the characters, but I have enough curiosity to want to continue on.
It's almost like it's made me want to care about what's going to happen to the main character even if I don't. Like in the future I'll come to care.
The heroine is compassionate in a world lacking it. Three different types of people and no one would lend a hand when it could have resulted in the loss of FOUR different types of people? I get it, the mages, sorcerers, and dragons don't care about humans.. I can understand that. But when the mages are trying to take out the sorcerers and, along the way, the dragons then why is there really no assistance? Or anything, really? They were going to have their little feast to not let the bad guys win, although that was just making the mage's lives easier because that was the when and where of the whole shebang.
Anyway, that just... Really made no sense and seemed to be a pretty big flaw. Maybe it only bothered me though. I mean she was prophesized to save the world (more like the sorcerers), or whatever, with only the assistance of a dragon. She had that, "the Oracle" and her mentor, so I guess that was enough.
A strong and caring heroine that was exiled from her homeland to Earth for her own protection after being witnessed while doing an assassination job. What a mouthful. She was a sorceress, the target was a mage, and their people were already at odds. I really don't know why there was a hit out on the guy... If it was ever said why, then I don't remember.
It ended up decent. The ending was a cliffhanger.
Plus, there's more to the prophesy... And who knows if or how it will come to pass?
This is the first book in a series, about the predicted hero of the magical realm... the dragon fae. Nadiya was an assassin in the magical realm of Elustria, before things went wrong. Now she works Earthside, her magic bound, to stop the mages encroaching into the human world. When a mage plot of mass destruction is uncovered, Nadiya and her new partner Deacon (a dragon shifter) must race against time to fix things. A good fantasy book pits the heroes against the odds, and this is no exception. The book maintains the story flow well, and the characters are interesting, but it’s just the first in the series, and so the story moves along on the slow side. That’s not to say that it’s not completed; the mage plot is solved, but the overarching storyline is just getting started, and the fleshing out of the characters, and the world in which we find them, is only just beginning. I shall look forward to the future books in the series, and hope I won’t have to wait too long!
Nadiya is one tough lady or should I say, Sorceress. She made one mistake and has been paying for it for years by not being able to access her magic and exiled to Earth. When she is told that she is the Dragon Fae, she doesn’t believe it and says that it is lie. She will do everything she can to make sure that she is not proclaimed the Dragon Fae.
Deacon is a dragon shifter and the fated mate of the Dragon Fae. He is assigned to be Nadiya’s partner and she is not happy about it. Deacon is there to stay even though she doesn’t want him to be in her life.
The story is full of action, violence and plots to destroy worlds and it is up to Nadiya and Deacon to stop it. But can they do that without the help of anyone? You get the story mostly from Nadiya’s point of view but there is a little side story from the author that you can read after you finish. It is a must read as it gives you Deacon’s point of view and really pulls the story line together nicely.
First in a Series that Sets Up the Rest - It'll Be Worth It!
This story continues C. Faron's world, building on Elustria, A world at war between magical beings such as Sorcerer, Fae and 'shifters,' and Mages. Mages are people who use magic but need a charm or talisman or charmed wand to perform magic. Not all mages are bad but there some who have organized into the Directorate who are trying to take magic for their own. They've infiltrated Earth to somehow turn humans into vehicles for destruction against all magical beings in Elustria. Only Humans cannot travel to Elustria. Our protagonist, A sorcerer exiled to Earth, an assassin with her magical signature hidden, has to find the Mages on Earth, discover their plan and somehow stop it herself without getting yet another partner killed. There's much more storyline but this should interest you plenty to want to read it!
Dragons, magic, shifters and a murderous plot make for a great start to this series.
I really enjoyed this book. It's the first in The Elustria Chronicles. The world building was good. So far we've only caught glimpses of the magical realm of Elustria, as our heroine is currently in exile in Earth. This book is filled with magic users, shifters and dragons. What more could I want? The plot is good and pulled me in quickly. The book ends at the close of one arc and the beginning of another. Book two promises more and I'm looking forward to reading about the realm of the Fae. As for romance, there's the hunt of a slow burn starting. Hopefully that will ignite in the next book. I've already bought book two, so I'm off to dive back into this universe.
A great take on the a fae adventure. Our leading lady is an assassin keeping her people safe even though she is exiled. When a prophecy throws everything in the air...just when a major threat comes to light can she manage all the changes, threats, and surprises. It's great reading of her remunerations and decision discussions...not just for herself but also to protect those she cares for. Wonderful characters and a journey that you lose yourself in...an addictive read and one that i want to continue. Word of warning....there is a bit of a cliffhanger!!! Grrr!!!!!
I'm sorry but I couldn't even finish this book. I was lucky I got to about 25% before I just stopped. I don't like the idea of a forced prophecy nor did I like the dragon shifter Deacon. He was not what I expected, not only that your female MC is terrible. So much explaining of the mages and their society but almost none of it makes sense. I just couldn't get into the writing style. Not for me.
None of that sex stuff which is great. The author doesn’t rely on it to sell the story. Nadiya learns that she is the dragon fae and flat out denys it. It takes a long time before she’s ready to accept it. Meanwhile she and her partner race to thwart a bombing attempt at the dragon festival. One clue leads to another and they follow the bread crumbs. Finding out that the attack is all for love is a great responsibility, one she ultimately started.
Start reading it early in the day so you have time to finish it before needing to go sleep, or you will end up reading until 1am like I did. The characters are great and the story sucks you right in. Loved the magic, the mini and larger dragons, as well as the action and locations. This looks to be the start of a really fun series, and that is good. I definitely enjoyed this book and really recommend it as well.
Nadiya is an undercover magical agent, who takes out evil mages. Now they are threatening her home of Elustria. Her new partner Deacon is a dragon shifter. They are telling her she is the Dragon Fae, the savior of her world. But if she doesn't find who's trying to kill her people there won't be anything to save. Paranormal mystery, with romance. Really enjoyed !!!
3/5. I've come to find out I don't like slowburn romances. It's good otherwise but very hard to keep my attention. Didn't get good until about halfway through when the rising action actually started happening and wasn't just backstory. I like Deacon. I'm not sure if I like Nadiya yet or not. I might read the second book just to see if it grows on me.
Awesome series, fast paced, exciting and very entertaining!!!!
Congratulations to Cathes Faron for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories.
Not a favorite story of mine. It is continued throughout the series. Although some issues are resolved, the major issues remain throughout. I don't like that in a book. The writing was not as smooth as other writers I have read, but not really stilted like some. The grammar, etc. was good. Just not my type of book.
I struggled between giving a 2 or a 3 star. I thought there was enough to finish the book, but I kept waiting to learn more about sorcerer/mage/fae differences. You never even learned why the mages are in conflict with everyone. This could have been any FMC human story, if you just took out the very few references to magic.
Liked the plot. Well written story. What I missed was a explanation about the do's and don'ts of the main characters in this world. It is like they already have a shared history but it is not told in this first installment. Like why the cuff, what is the circle exactly and how is one recruited for this. So lots of promise but less worldbuilding. 3.5 stars for me.
Dragon shifter, mages, sorcerers oh my. This is one really great read. Magic and mayhem abound . Rage, compassion, deceit, and human nature all play a part in this story. You have got to read the book.
The ONLYthing I didn't like was hearing that the next installment doesn't come out until October....horrible to have to wait until then. PS I loved that it was set in my home Arizona.
It was fun to be back in the world of magic after reading the Magic Born series. The characters were interesting and easy to get to know. Great storyline and loved the contrary heroine. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
Took me quite a while to get into this one and I almost dnf-ed it several times before it really captured my interest. It did however really pick up towards the end of the book and is all in all a solid set up for a series with lots of potential. Might pick up the next one some time.
I usually read kindle unlimited expecting a fast moving book with little character development, which is fine with me, but this book was slow moving, with hardly any development and whiny main character. I couldn't even finish it
Nadiya hides on Earth ever since her magic signature became known. What she didn't know were plans to make her the Dragon Fae of prophecy.Decon becomes her partner as an assassin.Sybil is the Orical.Together they work to stop the Mage plot.
