Chet Coppock was a Chicago sportscaster who died, at age 70, in an auto crash in April, 2019. He was completely unique, a style of his own and a massive ego. This book is highly entertaining and loaded with opinions. It also is full of “Coppockisms”, grandiose statements comparing something real to something almost unimaginable.
The charm of this book is in its heartfelt stories. Chet was emotionally involved in everything he covered. He got to know all the big sports names he covered or otherwise associated with. Michael Jordan. Jack Brickhouse. Bobby Knight. He covered everything at some point in time. The Bears. Notre Dame football. Boxing in its heyday. The Bulls in their championship run. But also pro wrestling and roller derby!
Chet pulls no punches in this book. He dares say what others observe but are afraid to say.
A must read for any Chicago sports fan who wants to get an honest perspective on the last 50 years in Chicago sports.

I was indoctrinated with Chet Coppock, the sports reporter, through WISH-TV telecasts (Indy) while a student at Indiana University. He was eccentric, crazy, and entertaining in his pursuits of sports reporting. When news (earlier this year) of his death through an unfortunate car accident in South Carolina, I became familiar of his latest book (2018) which is a compilation of shorts detaining his experiences, relationships, and interests over a long sports career in Chicago, Indianapolis, and New York. This book is also an opportunity for myself to reacquaint with the sports highlights over my adult life, now that I am semi-retired. Chet Coppock had a knack for injecting humor and fun into covering the contests, personalities, and event of the past 50 years. His interests are mutual - Cubs, White Sox, Bears, Bulls, Indiana University, Notre Dame, Northwestern, and many more, including Black Hawks, Roller Derby, and Boxing / Wrestling (fake).
