A family ranch to save. A man with a mission. A love that would betray it all.
Kate Fletcher would do anything to save her brother's ranch, and she's definitely not about to sell it to the persistent Michael McFarland, who wants to buy it for the railroad. But as they work together to stop cattle rustlers, they begin to see each other as more than adversaries.
Falling in love would mean betraying the one thing that is most important to each of them, but staying apart seems impossible. As the rustlers grow more bold and the danger escalates, Kate and Michael must make a choice — love or business?
Kate is trying to hold together her family's ranch in spite of the mysterious and prolonged absence of her brother. Michael McFarland works for the railroad and is charged with purchasing land to open up new rail lines. Kate's ranch is the last one needed in the area, but she refuses to sell. Michael keeps visiting Kate, but somewhere along the line, he becomes more interested in Kate than acquiring her ranch. To top it all off, she must deal with cattle rustlers who are stealing from her. This novella is a quick read that tells the story of how the McFarlands met each other before taking their positions managing the Crest Stone Hotel. The McFarlands are featured frequently in The Gilbert Girls series, but this novella is a stand-alone that can be read at anytime.
This is my first book by Cat Cahill and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to reading the entire series. The characters are rich and I easily connected with them. It’s well-written with a good storyline, void of editing issues and grammatical errors. A total joy to read.
I enjoy her style. Nice clean stories with some mystery attached and nice strong heroine. I like that they are not "soppy" in the romance area. Just a good clean story with good plot and satisfying ending. My copy had a typo toward the end, but hey, to get the guy's name wrong is not such a big deal when the story was good. Looking forward to reading more of her books. Satisfying.
I am interest in and love reading anything about the Gilbert Girls. Forbidden Forever was a good clean story with good plot and satisfying ending. I wasn't sure how the title of the book fit, but that did not take away from the story at all. It was a fast read and I finished in one afternoon. Can't wait now to read the rest of this series.
I really enjoyed this book. Kate and Michael start out at cross purposes but soon find themselves in love. The quickness they fall in love is hard to imagine but, I imagine in those days men moved faster to secure a woman. LOL I look forward to reading the rest of the Gilbert Girls series. R. K. Hanson
This was probably one of my favorite books that I have read in the last 6 months, and I typically read 3-5 books a week. I enjoyed reading how stubborn they could be in their perceived purpose, but ultimately deciding to hold true to love and merge into one common goal.
What an enjoyable book to read. It was not modern, but I love to read about the past. Regular history is an interest of mine, so this book was a fun read which included love & some suspense too. I will read more by Cat Cahill, and I hope to finish up the Gilbert Girls series.
This book does not boast a ton of pages but boy does it pack a punch! There are characters I won’t soon forget and intrigue galore. The love story is sweet and will give you butterflies if you’re not careful. This tale is the perfect set up for the rest of The Gilbert Girls series.
What a wonderful preview to a series. This book gives background information about how the Gilbert Girls get started and the building of the hotel. It is an enemy to lover romance. As with Cahill’s other books, it is a clean romance. The characters are amazing and make you believe in miracles. The storyline is full of romance, unexpected twists, surprises, danger and suspense, all of which keep you invested until the end. It is a great story worth reading. If you like historical romances you will enjoy this one. I found it heart warming and it left me feeling uplifted.
This sweet, clean romance was well written with a swift moving plot. The characters were likable. It is a great beginning to a new series. I look forward to reading about The Gilbert Girls.
