This was definitely a good intro to the series. I am intrigued. Malcolm & Ned were way more complex than I expected. I found that reveal to be a bit odd considering some of the things done in their little war. Overall, an interesting start and I wouldn't mind giving book 2 a try.

Ugh, I had so many problems with this book. It could have been good.

I love time travel romance, but it has a serious weakness as a genre: the author needs to be able to pull off a vaguely believable method for time travel and handle the impact to time consistently. To me, this book failed at this and a few other things in a number of ways.
1. The unreliable narrator. Chapter 2 introduced some of Ned's internal thoughts, which quickly prove to either be untrue or to put into question the author's treatment of the consistency of time. I found this extremely unnecessary. The author could have hinted with truths rather than undermining our confidence in her or Ned.
2. Spell functionality. The spell that is used for time travel its said many times but only sometimes does it work. No one ever seems to question what makes it work when.
3. Spell users. Even though Ree says the spell to send herself back in time, once there she seems to assume someone else would need to cast it to send her back. Malcolm and Ned also state this like it's fact. All that changes at the end, but spoilers! Both issue 2 and 3 could have been solved by having her know she can get back on her own but only if she can figure out the details beyond the words. This could have been stated from the beginning.
4. Don't even get me started on the whole weirdness with Malcolm. Pretty much every interaction Ree had with the man from the third to the last chapter distressed and confused me.
Massive cleanup could make this a decent book. I don't recommend reading unless that very unlikely event occurs.

Missing pieces

While I don't think I would care much for time travel, the stories around it always fascinate me. I enjoyed this one very much and with the two rival clans and not being able to tell which is the one she should be safe with made the story extra good. The twist at the end was great! So unexpected but added a new dimension to the story.

Good intro to this time travel series. I enjoyed how the story about Ree and Ned/Niall progressed mostly. How interesting - a group of immortals being hunted to extinction by mortals struggling to regain power and control over money and lands. As well, it is unique that the initial attack on the immortals eradicated all the women. Ree is a present day business woman with a particular interest in chemistry and a dark personal burden to overcome. I was a bit disappointed in Ree as she wavered quite a bit in allegiance and romantic interest between Ned/Niall and Malcolm. I also found that she really struggled with her dark past which eventually war resolved. In the end things sorted out... but it felt like a "quick and easy" solution? Still, an interesting story to read with a clear link to the next novel in the series.

62%

I titled this 62% because that is where the first instance of any erotic moments happened in this story. 50% for the first kiss happened, just putting that out there.

Interesting storyline and plot, with time travel, Highlanders, immortals and pirates. The chemistry between Ned and Ree was built upon throughout. I rooted for them with the hope of being together forever, pun intended. However, the ending is not nigh, it continues on with Ellen , one of Ree's best friends and coworkers , into the second book.

While I understand most of this book gives the historical basis and reasoning , I truly wish there'd been more hot moments at the beginning. Wink wink!

I did enjoy this a lot and I'm looking forward to its continuation in hopes that the potion for immortality gets created .

I liked the first book of the Cipher's Kids series.

But due to the violence and sexual content; in my opinion, is inappropriate for those under the age of18. A mortal woman is sent back t o 1740 Scotland. She finds herself caught between human vs immortals. She calls in love with an immortal man. He sends her back to her time to recreate the formula to make a mortal woman immortal.

This was an interesting story.
The sex scenes were not fabulous. She used interesting words, words that didn’t really fit. She described well, but it gave you the absolute wrong feeling. Example: Like ~ “she yelled loudly” vs “she whispered softly” ~ you get that she said something, but the feel of how she said it was different.

Ree Hamilton hires Ned Lewis to help her company avoid a hostile takeover bid. There is an instant attraction between the two, but Ned has other intentions than just helping Ree with her company. He sends her back 300 years to Scotland into the middle of a conflict between the Lewis clan and the Gunn clan.

Time travel

The story was interesting but too many games. It was fine until one of the major enemies became the hero's best friend without the hero giving any clue to the heroine. That would have made most people really angry but the heroine just accepts it as ok

No

I did not enjoy this book. I did not feel the connection between Ned and Ree. I did not really understand or empathize with the backstory. Overall not a fan and won't be reading it again or the rest of the series.

Pirates of the Angui (Cipher’s Kiss Book 1)

Red Hamilton along with her four best friends built Primary Industries. Allied Chemical wants to buy them out. She called Ned Lewis to help with input of what to do. Ned wanted to walk in the park with her to talk. He told her about his tattoo and she told him about her prosthetic leg. He then tricked her into reciting a spell that sends her back into time. She being from 2018 and now in 1740. She ends in a war between the Angui (immortal) and the Falisa ( human ). The human didn’t want the Immortal to find the Cipher’s Kiss that or even a way to formulate it. Ned found a book with the formula but it had to be made in the future. Ree is now sent back to the future to do the deed. All her friends from the past are there to help. Now to understand it
