Something terrible happened 100 years ago at Stone Mansion, a dilapidated ruin that looks over the small town of Oak Valley, Oklahoma. Acting police chief Daniel Minco is driven to learn its secret but he is blocked by oil billionaires, militant archeologists, TV evangelists, rogue OSBI agents, a new state highway, and Lianne Ortega, a young, by the rules cop from the big city.
Mystery, murder, and romance. Oak Valley has it all.
I live in Oklahoma, and was so looking forward to relating to the areas; but unfortunately I was disappointed in the quality of the Novel. The characters were flat and the scene settings were lacking. There were also instances of improbability, like a man posing as an OSBI officer; with a “Team”. Or a man hiding a hunting rifle under a suit jacket, and using it in close confines (forget it). This suited man intended to commit murder but was wholly unprepared. At least I now know that I should avoid the series. There’s always a bright side to the wasted time.
I was once again surprised by this authors storytelling skills. It was a very good book with plenty going on. I was drawn to the cover and spending time living in OK it caught my attention. I then realized this was the 2nd book I'd read by this author and really enjoyed reading this on a dark night in Feb of 2021, still in a pandemic. Great way to escape for awhile reading this book.
I rated it at 5 stars because it grabs you from the first page and holds you until the last. It's nice as a reader to find you don't know where the story is going when you thought you did. Several surprising twists in it before you finish. An all around excellent read.
I really enjoyed read this series so far the 1st one was fun to read this was sad to read .this about two cops who dislike each other and end up solving the disappearance of a whole town. This is a great book looking forward to book 3
