An unforgettable summer at the Seabreeze Inn changes lives forever.
After Ivy Marin decided to renovate the rambling beach house her late husband had purchased without her knowledge, she and her sister, Shelly, rented extra rooms online. Yet, due to a fire along the Summer Beach ridgetop, they suddenly have full occupancy with residents forced from their homes, even though some can’t afford to pay. As the summer heats up, old feuds erupt and attractions simmer. Even the mayor, Bennett Dylan, who was Ivy’s former high school crush, moves into a room next to hers. As their relationship grows, Ivy is faced with difficult choices, particularly when her estranged daughter Sunny shows up.
Now living in the house he had hoped to return to the residents of Summer Beach as a community center, Bennett finds himself at odds with Ivy’s continuing campaign for a bed-and-breakfast license. Worse, his developing feelings for her are intruding on his carefully balanced life. With Ivy, the memories of his late wife’s illness and battle to live surge through him, and he questions whether he has the strength to risk love again.
Despite the chaos of the summer season, Ivy has just one summer to save the house from an impending tax sale. Complicating matters at the Seabreeze Inn is Ivy’s sister Shelly, whose feelings for the owner of Java Beach cool when his criminal record emerges, making Shelly question if Summer Beach is the right place for her.
Amid the turmoil, when a documentary filmmaker arrives to reconstruct the history of the old house and its secretive former owner, Ivy discovers that the old beach house holds yet another secret that will forever change their lives.

This is a well-written, entertaining, contemporary romance novel. It has likable and engaging characters, a vividly described, lovely beach setting, supportive friends and family, a bit of mystery, a sweet romance, and a satisfying conclusion. I listened to the audio book, and the narrator, Ms. Erin Bennett, does an excellent job voicing the characters. This is the second entry in Ms. Moran's delightful Summer Beach series, and it should be read in order, due to a continuing theme. I am looking forward to reading the next installment in this series with great anticipation.
I really enjoyed book 2! I think what I like the best about the Seabreeze series is that they are relaxing to read! The characters are nice and with the stress of daily life they are a wonderful outlet.
I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
Featuring: Southern California, Small Town, Disaster Trope, B&B Trope, Sisters, Clichés, Secrets, Second Chance Trope, Pets, Nosy Neighbors, Celebrities
Rating as a movie: PG-13
My rating: ⭐️⭐️½
My thoughts: 📱40% 3:51:52 Ch. 13 - I'm so over this story. It was going fine, I've accepted it as a knock-off but I have a limit on how many clichés I can take at once. This story is too hackneyed for me at the moment. I need to clear my mind, again. 📱74% 7:06:05 Ch. 24 - I just can't wait for this to be over at this point. I was hoping the 2nd book would be better but it's the opposite. More cliché, repetitive, and now stupidity. All just gets glossed over and excused. I can't stand excusing bad behavior to create Pleasantville, this will be the last book. All of the delays are annoying too.
I didn't like it. I could say I'm burned out on new beginnings set in small beach towns but that's just not true. I could say the writing isn't as inviting as similar stories, but the truth is these characters and the structure of the story just got on my nerves. They constantly ignore bad behavior and give passes on consequences. Every time progress was made in the historical mystery they put a pin in it to take care of a frivolous task. They spent too much time repeating the last book, and I feel like the last half of this story is going to be the first half of book 3. The MC was very negligent and I just can't do an entire series of this. Just knowing Sunny is coming is enough for me to throw in the towel.
Recommend to others?: I won't be recommending this book to anyone unless they really want a widow-inn-beach-fluff story.
2nd In the lovely Seabreeze series. I will have to pick up more as I love the characters and these books are such fun reads.
Ivy and her sister still plan on renovating the beach house as a bed and breakfast, but a fire forces residents to move into the beach house for temporary relief. Some of the resident cannot afford to pay and are hardly surviving.
Bennett is the high school crush/mayor and he ends up at the beach house as well. Ivy and him start to rekindle a romance, but is it too soon. He is still dealing with his late wife’s death and hoping he can manage a new relationship. Ivy’s daughter Sunny also shows up which is a difficult situation.
Other characters enter the series, with her sisters new love, whom has a criminal record and a documentary filmmaker arrives wanting to explore the history of the house and the former owner. Secrets abound.
I had planned to continue on with this series as I kind of like the characters and the idea of the story but I’m done after this one. The story is dragging on and getting rather boring. The same stuff is on repeat. Ivy’s husband didn’t tell her about the house. We KNOW! I’ve read it 100 times at this point. I hate repetition. The characters are so wishy washy. Bennett is practically in love with Ivy close to the end and when the tiara goes missing and they’re afraid it may make Ivy look bad he’s suddenly having thoughts about how it could affect his reputation as mayor and if Ivy is worth it? I was already getting bored because it’s not moving along enough for me but that was the point I decided I’m stopping with this series. Good riddance. I don’t even care what happens to them. Also, I hate cliffhangers. It’s just a ploy to sell more books. Pitiful.
I really enjoyed this light beach read, but couldn’t help my disappointment in the poor editing. I noticed a little bit in the first book, but this one was way worse. There were so many typos, misuse of tense, and one pretty significant storyline error. I liked the characters and setting and stuck with it because I was hopeful...
There are series and serials. It is good to know before you start. Hard to say how this story ended, or if it ever will. I will not find out. I don't care enough to bother with the next book. Even if free, I am so finished with Jan Moran.
While I realize that some repetition is necessary for those who didn't read #1, it seems like there was too much repetition. Fast beach read. Relaxing with some tidbits, drama and romance. Just a relaxing book.
This only gets 3 stars because it’s a series I listen to when I know I’ll be distracted by other things. There is so much repetition in this book, if I was reading it I would be skipping pages. So if you need a mindless, frothy read, this is it.
3 stars - not as good as the first one but okay. I downloaded the whole series so I will continue to listen on my morning walk and find out what happens to everyone
Book 2 is every bit as great a read as book one. Ivy's and Shelly's new life and business continue to evolve. There's love, laughter, hardship, friendship, and so much more in this series whose cast of characters is primarily mature adults each with their own unique personality and talents. Highly recommend both book 1 And 2.
3.5-ish/5 stars. Very “feel good” and “clean”, but lovely series in a beach setting! Ticks a few boxes for me! I’ll def continue with the series; enjoying the change from my usual high intensity reads :-)
Continuing a series in the same year isn’t something I usually do, but Sunbreeze Summer pulled me right back into Summer Beach. This second installment captured the same warmth and charm of The Seabreeze Inn, while deepening both the relationships and the mysteries surrounding the inn.
Ivy and Bennett’s slow-burn romance was one of the highlights for me. Their relationship develops with patience and tenderness, making every small moment meaningful. I enjoyed how their connection felt natural, with just the right balance of sweetness and tension.
Another strength of this book is how the secondary characters continue to grow and evolve. They aren’t just background figures; they each have their own storylines and arcs that made me care about them—and made me eager to return to Summer Beach. That balance between the central romance and the broader community is part of what keeps the series so engaging.
The Seabreeze Inn itself remains a wonderful anchor to the story. Its history and lingering mysteries add intrigue and emotional depth that complement the romance beautifully.
While the pacing felt a little slow in parts, the atmosphere was exactly what I wanted—a cozy, heartwarming escape. Sunbreeze Summer earns four stars from me, and I’m glad I decided to continue the series right away.
Ivy and her sister Shelly are back in this second novel in the Summer Beach series!
Ivy and Shelly are living in Summer Beach and trying to make a home and a business out of a house that was left to Ivy by her late husband. She needs to turn this historic home into an inn to help pay the back taxes after her husband left her not only broke but in shatters. Ivy needs to convince the town council to rezone her home so she can officially be an inn instead of a ibnb.
After a devastating wind storm Ivy and Shelly find themselves with a full house of neighbors and friends who have been displaced by a fire. This is truly a test for the ladies! Their house guests are a mix of adorable, quirky fun people who soon become true friends. With the help of their niece Poppy, the handsome and single Mayor, Bennett Dylan and other friends, they are making their new house a home. Add on a celebrity wedding and things get very exciting for the ladies and guests.
When Ivy makes a new discovery of some very expensive jewels, once again the local police and FBI become involved and when things start going missing, all the guests and Ivy and Shelly's friends become suspects. Will they find the culprit in time when the FBI show up to gather the jewels?
This was an amazing book, and I simply adore Jan Moran's brilliant writing style. She mixes in family, friendship and love so beautifully into this story. I loved all the supporting characters, yes even the cranky ones, and I can't wait to begin the next book in the series. What I really enjoyed was that this was not a typical fall in love by the end of a single book, the stories continue and we get to watch the characters evolve along with new supporting characters added in. This by far has been one of my favourite series and Jan Moran is one of my new favourite authors.
Seabreeze Summer book two in the series starts off with the brush fire in the ridge and Ivy offering shelter to the residents of Summer Beach whose homes were destroyed.
In book two Ivy and Shelly contend with getting the town council to change the zoning of Las Breezas to the Seabreeze Inn, a celebrity wedding, more hidden treasures from Amelia Erikson, a pesky dog, and a lawsuit from angry neighbor Darla.
Seabreeze Summer is a light, feel good summer read. I like how the characters band together for the success of the Seabreeze Inn.
Notes below the line are for me to remember the book ———————————————————————
1. Ivy is able to get the Seabreeze Inn zoning changed so she can now officially operate it as an inn. Ivy and Summer Beach residents band together to help displaced residents from the ridge fire.
2. Bennett restores the old Chevy he found in the garage for Ivy. Inside the trunk there is an antique doll. Pixie, Gilda’s dog tears the doll and inside Ivy finds jewels. The doll’s trunk had a hidden compartment and inside it was a jeweled tiara. Ivy alerts the FBI and does some research with niece Poppy and documentary film maker Megan. It turns out the jewels were from a Germany royal family that went missing in 1946. They were stolen by American service men and brought to America after World War II.
3. Ivy and Bennett are starting to fall in love with one another. Shelly is falling for Mitch. Then, the tiara goes missing because of Mitch’s previous record of being jail he is questioned. However, the tiara and many other items went missing because Pixie (the dog) was hiding them. Mitch is cleared. Shelly leaves Summer Beach and returns to New York.
4. Ivy’s relationship with daughter Sunny is rocky while she is in Europe and daughter Misty is happy for Ivy’s new venture with the Sea Breeze Inn.
5. The celebrity wedding was a fun part. The groom’s father almost drowns in the pool and Ivy saves him. He presents Ivy with a brand new Merceds, but she declines it.
Jan Moran never fails to delight me. I know when I pick up one of her books I am about to take a journey with some intelligent, strong, very likeable women. The friendships and family bonds in her books are something I look forward to.
“Seabreeze Summer” picks up where “Seabreeze Inn” left off. Ivy, Shelly, and cousin Poppy are working together to make Seabreeze Inn a profitable endeavor. However at the end of the previous book many Summer Beach residents were forced out of their homes by a massive wildfire. Ivy and Shelly have opened the inn to anyone that needs lodging, even though some cannot afford to pay. This gives us several new characters. Imani and her son Jamir have lost everything except her flower shop Blossoms. Gilda, a magazine writer, brings her dog Pixie. While Ivy is providing assistance to community residents her neighbor Darla is still trying to prevent a zoning change that will allow Ivy to operate as a commercial inn. Ivy’s attraction to Mayor Bennet Dylan is growing, and Shelly finds a love interest.
Amidst the heart-warming relationships in the book there lurks a thief. Amelia Erickson, previous owner of the house, was a bit eccentric. It seems she hid treasures in various places throughout the house. In this book Ivy finds a stash of jewels but the “crowning” piece goes missing. This may mean the end of Shelly’s new romance. Her new love Mitch has spent time in prison for robbery so, of course, he is the sheriff’s main suspect.
All is not roses for Ivy and Bennet as they a rough patch when Ivy’s teen idol takes a liking to her. Can Bennet compete with that?
I am eager to read Book 3 in the series. These characters have stolen my heart and I want to visit longer with them.
I may have considered giving this book a higher rating if it wasn’t so painfully repetitive! These are definitely not standalone stories, but even if a reader did not start with book one, by the second or third chapter in this book, they would be fully caught up with the whole storyline, and every detail of each one of the characters. However the writer feels the need to repeat every single detail over and over up until the very last chapter. Even the characters’ internal dialogues go over the same details again and again. I will probably continue reading the series because I am a glutton for punishment, and I enjoy silly romance novels with tons of cliches.
If you are looking for a book that requires any critical thought don't read this series. I've enjoyed the first 2 books in this series despite, or perhaps because of the fact they are so unrealistic. Problems and logistics are magically resolved and the story is advanced with a simplicity that is both profoundly unrealistic and somehow comforting.
I was frustrated by this book. It didn’t seem like much happened. The story could have been summed up in a short story and the relationships move too slowly to seem real. It’s an easy read and pleasant enough that I’ll read the last book in the series just to see how this author resolves the stories.
I read to fall asleep at night. I use this time to read books that I consider fluff - no complicated stories, no trauma, no mystery, no getting lost in a story that you can't put down - just looking at words until I fall asleep. This is one of those books.
Love it! Sweet, inspiring, and fun! The mystery of the priceless artifacts is just the beginning of the excitement that continued in this book. Looking forward to book 3.
