Fly Bear, Rider Hendrix, is a decorated military pilot working with the Justice Squad. As dare devil and risk taker, Rider never thought he wanted a mate. Then a close call changes everything. He signs up on a shifter dating app and is instantly matched.

Darcy Lane worked her way up from nothing to head chef at a top Denver restaurant. No matter how far she’s come, the insecurities of her past run deeper than her freckled skin. When Darcy is matched with Fly Bear, she doesn’t think a man as hunky and as handsome as him could ever love a curvy, frizzy haired, ugly duckling like her.

When Rider is sent on an undercover mission to investigate hyena terrorists at the Denver Airport, it’s his chance to claim his fated mate. In the meantime, Darcy comes up with a plan to date Rider while never having to show her face. What could possibly go wrong?

Can Rider keep his head in the game and protect the airport from a deadly threat while navigating the turbulence of Darcy’s wounded heart? And will Darcy ever come to understand that the beauty Rider wants to see is what shines so brightly from within?

This second in the series book is another wonderful quick read novella. Terrorists need to be stopped, and hopefully the Justice Squad is up to the task!

I generally love Scarlett's books, but I had trouble with this one. It felt awkward and cheesy in a way that I wouldn't expect from her.

Not bad, but not great either. A tale of fated mates hurdling over layers of lies and terrorist threats to find each other. Rider (H) is a pilot going undercover at the Denver airport, looking into suspicious activity by potential shifter terrorists. Darcy (h) is a shy, insecure, weak human who works as the lead chef at a steakhouse in the Denver airport. Coincidentally, they find themselves matched on Mate.Com right as he goes undercover. Between his undercover identity and her insecurities, will they be able to find their way together?

Ok, I did not like Darcy. There's insecure, and then there's hopeless. I get that she didn't have a supportive upbringing, and had taken a lot of verbal abuse from former foster families. But really - she's a successful female in a very male dominated field. How had she made it so far, and yet still had absolutely no confidence? I mean, dating confidence is one thing, but she didn't even put in her real profession on Mate.Com! She's got no confidence in anything!! And all her dithering about sending her friend into the date? She knows enough about shifters to know that they can sense their mates, and that it's a one-and-done sort of deal, but she's still dumb and/or insecure enough to send in her friend posing as her, and expect him not to figure out that something's off? Or to go for her attractive friend over her once he sees her? Sounds like she has absolutely no concept of how mates work, which is hard to accept when she put herself out there on a mate finding website! And then how is it all solved, all those years of insecurities overcome? Rushed development, about 48 hours knowing Rider in person, and then feeling the mating bond - boom, magically healthy and self-confident. Insta-love solves 20+ years of insecurity. Super weak character development, especially after suffering through pages of her monologuing about how unattractive she is, how she doesn't know how to do make up, she doesn't know how to dress, etc etc etc. And then all is well and good after spending two nights with the guy? Bit of a let down.

Would have been alright if the suspense/action side of the story was more developed. But the final scenes (especially her scene at the airport) were just rushed. Ended up feeling anticlimactic. Plus, a bit unbelievable (even for a shifter romance). I mean,

Alternating 3rd person POV. No cheating, no OW/OM drama. Minor sorta, kinda love triangle with Darcy's friend, but it really doesn't come to anything (fated mates and all). Mostly drama from Darcy being insecure as all get out. No character development (basically, all solved by having sex/mating), and the adventure side of things was too rushed. A really weak entry in what's normally pretty light escapist fun. Really didn't like the h in this, so was rather hard to root for her HEA. Which they did get - HEA and no cliffhangers.

Would I read more in the series/by this author? Yes. While not normally a favorite go-to author, Scarlett Grove is still enjoyable light'n'mindless escapism. This was just a one-off weak entry in the series, I think.

Learning to love.

Scarlett Grove never ceases to amaze me, I find myself easily transported into the lives and scenarios of the novels she creates while getting to know the characters each with their own uniqueness personalities that make it impossible to not want to get to know them, while knowing that Ms Grove will ensure to keep us totally invested with the action, drama and determination to keep us completely moved emotionally with how deeply the events of what they are dealing with could easily change the lives and happiness of the characters we have come to know.
Rider loves living life to the fullest, the more risks the better, he loves nothing more than jumping into something that gets his adrenaline pumping. After another crazy late night dirt bike race he comes close to realising he definitely is not immortal, he could quite easily have died in the blink of an eye.
Talk about helping a man take a good look at what he could have missed, so he does what any shifter would do when it's time to settle down, he joins fated mates.com.
Darcy reminds me of how most young woman feel during their YA years very insecure about themselves and never believe they are capable of finding someone worthy to love.
A strong determined compassionate chef who is unable to see the beauty of who she is, meeting Rider certainly gives her a spring in her step, actually the way Ms Grove has designed this amazing adventure you want nothing more than to see the hopes and dreams of these two come together.
But as life often does a curve ball is thrown into what Rider is trying desperately to achieve, suddenly people everywhere are in danger and need to be protected.
Darcy and Rider are basically glowing from the inside out, both realising as a couple they are stronger almost as if finding t he pieces that they had both felt were missing seemed to click together like a puzzle inside making them whole and complete in every way.
Now what taunts you throughout is knowing that by doing what is right both these characters could still find themselves alone again, so really do you take a chance not knowing or stay safe by protecting your heart.
Beautifully written with the unique qualities of the author's natural abilitiy of deeply expressive description and narration giving us a rollercoaster ride of the emotional fear of the unknown.
So what's going to happen in this dramatically intense set of situations that have been put in play
will those hoping to bring down these sleeper cells or will they win the terror they're inflicting, definitely a brilliant read you need to get hold of.

Ryder & Darcy

Darcy Lane is a curvy woman. She is more focused on achieving her goals. She is the head chef at a restaurant in a Denver airport. She is more on the shy side. Darcy also has some self doubt.

Ryder Hendrix is a bear shifter. He is part of the Justice Squad. He lives for the thrills and adventures in live. He is sent undercover to be a pilot.

They both meet through mate.com. Where they discover that they are mates. They both held some secrets from each other. But when all is revealed. They realize they are just what they needed. At the end this is a happily ever after book.

A risk taking daredevil undercover special ops bear has finally decided to find a mate, joins mate.com and at the same time is given a new assignment to prevent terrorists bombing a Colorado airport. A goal oriented chef with no love life is dissatisfied with her life follows her friends advice and joins mate.com. What could go wrong? Or what could go right? This book is that story. I enjoyed it.

This is precisely the kind of situation that gives online dating a bad reputation. When both of the people searching for love have secrets, it is really not conducive for the development of a real relationship. Still, Rider and Darcy manage to fumble their way through their own obstacles toward true love. I enjoy the characters of Rider and Darcy; I know a few daredevil types and Darcy embodies too many of my own insecurities for my comfort.

Fast and Good

I've read this authors works before and have never been disappointed. This i s quickly read shifter story with plenty of action. It's a bit different in that you'll be guessing who all are the bad guys. There is some sexual content, but not a lot that it detracts from the story. If you like shifters then you'll love this one.

Darcy grew up in foster "not caring" at all and has a bad self image of herself. When she signs up to Mate.com she never expected to be matched or loved by a shifter, so when she is matched to gorgeous Rider she hides from him but they both have secrets they have to face to get to their HEA. A hot and sweet story line.

The Justice Squad has some security measures to take care of and the books are just as good as the Fate Valley Mysteries.
In this book two, you have Rider and Darcy a human with insecurities and a squad member on a mission. Secrets can derail the mated match and you get a real good read on how the issues are resolved.

I am really enjoying this KU series.

This was a fun short read. There was a lot of story packed into these few pages. I have not read book one and was not lost but I think to get the whole picture and understand all the characters it would be better to read them in order. I liked this female character- she was not confident in her looks because of people in her past saying she was ugly. Her life as a foster kid played a huge part in her personality. The author kept her the same throught out the story and you really see those around her build her up. Once she finds her inner self she let's it out in full force. The male character was all male. A bachelor living on the edge -an adrenaline junkie. But then fate steps in ! Even though he is this big bad bear he knows how to be soft and sweet. There was lots drama and suspense along with some sweet loving as well. I enjoyed this read.

This is an OK shifter romance, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 3 stars from me.

My main issue with this book is that it is simply too short to have enough character development. It is really more of a short story, not even quite what I would call a novella.

The terrible editing bothered me a great deal -- there were so many errors, and they were distracting. It also really bothered me how Darcy lied to Rider at first. I get that she had terrible low self-esteem, but it was a big lie. I also found it difficult to believe Darcy fell in love with Rider so quickly. She was a human, after all, so she wouldn't have felt the mate insta-love that he did.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Loved this book

Darcy is a hard working woman in the busy Denver steak house restaurant she worked hard to get where she is today but lacks confidence in how she sees herself as a child growing up in the foster care system the last person she was placed with was a woman who was a drunk and always told Darcy how ugly she was and she’s never got over it so when she signs to mate.com and it says her 100% match is fly bear aka Rider but when they are to meet for the first time she gets a friend to stand in for her. Rider is an adrenaline monkey he has a dirt bike and loves racing it on his last race he has a close call that brings his life and wants to the forefront he signs up to mate.com 100% match is Darcy they text and through a mission he is going undercover as a pilot at Denver airport he is to find any information on the hyenas who are due to bombing attacks at airports. The first meeting doesn’t feel right with Rider but after a second meeting all comes clear why but Rider needs to be truthful as well. They end up stopping the hyenas attack one from the air and one from the ground. This a beautiful story that’s a must read and will be on my read it again list

Fly The Friendly Skies...

Captain Rider Hendrix aka Fly Bear a decorated pilot and member of the Justice Squad is all about taking very dangerous risks, but a near death experience made him realize that life isn't getting longer and he wants to experience life's pleasure of having a mate and children so he joins mate.com and s very pleasantly surprised when he receives 100% match instantly. Problem is he doesn't feel that certain zing when he sees her profile picture, sure he loves texting with her she is smart and witty, but her picture just doesn't do it him.

Darcy has always felt like the ugly duckling always being told that by her foster parent, never having learned to spruce up or date. She decides to join mate.com and is very pleasantly surprised when she is matched up 100% with the most gorgeous man she has ever seen. He wouldn't want an ugly duckling like her, so she decides to put the fated mate theory to the test by asking her friend to play the part for her date.....It all backfires on Darcy and she feels the green monster coming to the surface.

Will Darcy take the leap and tell Rider the truth, or subject herself to a life of solitude with Mr. Whiskers?

Rider is a bit of a danger chaser. That is until the danger about takes him out. Maybe his job with the Justice Squad will have to provide enough for him. He's never thought about settling down--until now. Mate.com might just be an idea even though some of his teammates have been waiting for their mate for a long time.

Darcy isn't pretty, she isn't sexy and she doesn't have guys making passes. At least that what she thinks after being told such growing up. She does have a great job. Makes good money has a nice place to live in. It's enough, right? Maybe not. When one of her few friends talks her into it she too fills out the mate.com app.

Could the two of them really make an immediate match? How will they both respond? Will his job let him respond right away? Just how much danger is he facing with his new assignment?

I enjoyed the short shifter romance with two deserving characters.

Good shifter romance with some action

This one is less intense than book 1. It was good, but I didn't get as personally involved as I usually do. Rider is a pilot who goes undercover at the airport, where Darcy is a barbeque chef. She has severe esteem issues, and can't believe that she could be anyone's fated mate, even though she signed up on Mate.com! The pace is fast, the tone is uncertain and hopeful, while the storyline is character oriented with some action and steamy scenes. The characters are well drawn, but they didn't draw me totally into the story. The storyline seemed a little off to me. However, this is a decent follow-up to book 1 and I still plan on getting book 3. I would read book 1, and then this. There are 2 previous Mate.com series. They are Fate Mountain box set and Fate Valley Mystery box set. You might like those as well.

i loved this story, while it is a quick read, it has plenty of action and romance. I have to admit i did love Riders character even though he was undercover he was still trying to be honest. And honest he was to a point with Darcy. She didnt see herself how he saw her, she was beautiful in his eyes for she was his mate. As for Darcy, she didnt think she looked anything special so when it came to getting a date and putting on a profile she used someone elses picture but soon learned that its better to be truthful when it comes to mates cause mates love you no matter how you look.

Theres much more than just their romance in this great story, one click to read more it really is worth it.

5 stars.

Fast Forward Romance!

This is a fast moving story about a dare-devil bear shifter Rider and a grill chef Darcy. Captain Rider is with a secret special ops team trying to stop a terrorist group. He and Darcy have just discovered that they are mates. Darcy doesn't think she's worthy of being a mate to a gorgeous shifter like Rider. Rider is determined to change her mind while successfully completing his mission. I really like the series even though I feel like these stories need to be a little longer. So many rules of nature are ignored for expediency. Like opening an exit door on a plane at 50,000 ft. with no consequences. Other than incidences like that, I do enjoy reading these stories.

Just O.K.

This was a very quick read. Rider and Card's story was just OK. I prefer stories that are longer. The plot was off Hyena terrorists who apparently have been targeting airports so Rider who pay off the Justice Squad crew is sent to the Denver airport on a secret mission. He signs up to mate.com and gets matched. She is in Denver. Darcy is a chief at an airport restaurant. She had been convinced in signing up to a shifter dating app. Never expecting to be matched...Now she has found her fated mate. She consists herself too ugly so and comes up with an idea.

It all takes place too fast for me. I prefer longer more fulfilling stories. Hopefully, book 3 will be longer and better.
