Literally picking up where we left off, the gang is prepping for summer shenanigans, where Izumi’s male gaze may cause Shikimori to make a rash decision. We also see Izumi’s secret skills and, between video games and the fireworks festival, there might not be any tropes left to hit.
Okay, I give up. I like this now. Turning this into an ensemble piece that happens to focus on Shikimori and Izumi was definitely the right choice as it really helped break up that endless repetition and continues to do so here.
Outside of our leads, these aren’t great characters, although Hachimitsu, the short one, is so incredibly odd that she’s starting to steal scenes now and then. They get the job done though. If that first volume was like eating nothing but bread, we’ve at least added some peanut butter and jelly to the mix.
They also let Izumi get a few wins so this isn’t constantly about Shikimori looking cool while saving his butt and that makes their relationship a lot more fun. They seem more like partners - Izumi turns out to have wasted a year, we learn in a very cute exchange, and it turns out Shikimori is really getting used to sweets because she enjoys the look on Izumi’s face when they have them.
And for mostly being a low-key sort of romantic banter, these two definitely manage to be more than that on occasion. Shikimori is practically sultry over a little bit of cooking, twice in fact, and Izumi comes through like a champion for the fireworks. It adds a little spark and also makes them a lot more believably in love than they were initially - Shikimori is especially smooth with her line delivery.
I’ve often said that you can make any trope work if you do something unique with it and this volume really proves that since it’s basically ALL trope, yet still manages to be pretty entertaining. Largely this is down to some fun tweaks, although some things are less successful than others (the shooting gallery is super obvious, even though it does have a cute moment afterward).
Generic Mario Kart is never a huge draw, but this is the second time in recent weeks that one has made me laugh. The specificity of Izumi’s bad luck causing him to get nothing but banana peels even though he’s in last place and to also clip into the scenery is very inside nerd baseball but in a way I absolutely loved. They also have a great parody of a broadcast sporting event when they change games that was pretty clever.
As before, this is all still fluff. It’s fluff that figured out exactly how to maximize its fluffiness, but if you’re looking for a plot other than two people are in love and they have some good friends and fun times together, you won’t find it here. On the one hand, it’s a negative, but on the other it’s always good to have a fun series that has literally no intent other than to entertain (it reminds me of the very slight nature of the similarly enjoyable Futaribeya.
3.5 stars - no rounding up. This is a potato chip series; it has practically no nutritional value, but dang if it isn’t very addictive and easy to consume a whole bunch without noticing. And if you aren’t careful you’ll be done the entire thing before you know it.
Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie, Vol. 3 (My Kindle Review)
Summer has arrived and the cute couple and their friends spent their time by the water, play video games and Izumi even takes Shikimori to her first fireworks show. So much sweetness from these two you’ll get a cavity. A (100%/Outstanding)
This series' art and storytelling is good enough that they are nice easy reading, and the central group of friends is very cute. I wouldn't say this series is especially worth seeking out, though. It continues to be ever-so-slightly too low-key for my tastes, and with so many laid-back series about high school life out there, this one doesn't particularly stick out from the pack. Izumi's curse and Shikimori's competence aren't quite enough to carry a title all by itself. As often happens, it's only because these happen to be in our apartment that I'm reading them at all.
I liked the part where Izumi's dad carries both him and Shikimori after they both hurt their feet during the summer festival, and odd details like Hachimitsu literally turning into a puddle in the summer heat, and Izumi's little cat that almost looks like a bug.
Thoughts: * Summer river trip was just as adorable as I was hoping for!! Shikimori saves Izumi in the river of course, but the friends overall have such a great time together...the scenes of them tuckered out on the train after were too cute. * Still really enjoying the give and take in Shikimori and Izumi's relationship. The small, quiet scenes between them really tug at the heartstrings, like when she called Izumi to check on him after his mishap during the first day of exams. They both say sweet things that causes the other to blush and think, 'I wish I could see their face right now!' o(≧▽≦)o * I've said it before and I'll say it again, the 'Going to the festival while wearing yukata' has got to be my favorite manga trope. Shikimori and Izumi's yukata were soooo nice, especially Shikimori's floral one (◕‿◕✿). Plus, when she took over the shooting game and then gave her prize to Izumi - my heart!! (*¯︶¯*). Izumi then carries her all the way to a secluded spot to watch the fireworks, which was so cute.

As wholesome as this series is, I’m choosing to stop reading at this volume. Izumi and Shikimori’s relationship and is incredibly cute but, it’s also making incredibly slow progress. If they were working towards a goal, whether it be involving their relationship or a personal/individual objective, it’d be a more interesting. Instead it gradually became more repetitive despite the couple doing different activities.
3/5 More of the same. Just light and easy feel good reading without much depth.
In volume 2 the cast heads to the River for a swim, go to a fireworks festival where ::gasp:: Shikimori’s sandal breaks, and hang out at friends house. We’re hitting all of the staple romance moments where do we go from here. Still I enjoy the characters and it really is a chill read.
Shikimori puts up her hair on the cover of volume 3.

Today I have the pleasure of presenting you the review of the third volume of the manga “Shikimori is more than just a pretty face”. Without further ado, let’s begin:
💕This volume begins with the exams before the summer holidays, where Izumi faces a significant incident: the breaking of her pen in the middle of a test.
The narrative then delves into the preparations, revealing the insecurity and jealousy that the pink-haired girl experiences in her relationship. It also gives us a scene of a delicate echhi that does not go unnoticed.
💕The story then transports us to an excursion to the river, where we discover moments of culinary tenderness between the main couple. However, a heroic act by Izumi in rescuing a girl from the riverbed culminates in predictable results, adding a new display of insecurity to her character.
The action gives way to a transitional chapter in which Izumi suffers the consequences of sunburn, while a date filled with cotton candy touches takes place, before leading to the classic summer festival that characterizes the shôjo genre.
After participating in several traditional games, the couple manages to have a moment of intimacy in a discreet corner. It is essential to highlight the role of Izumi's parents, who play an essential role in ensuring that the date goes off without any noteworthy setbacks.
💕In the last chapters, attention returns to everyday situations, such as spending the afternoon playing video games or walking Shikimori's dog. In these vignettes, the young woman's strong character is highlighted, both in her competitive side and in her time out with her pet.
🌸Conclusion: This third volume offers a more human portrait of Shikimori, showing her with the insecurities typical of adolescence. For his part, Izumi stands out as a couple who strives to be both loved and admired by his girl, thus conquering the reader's heart.
The third volume and I am just not sure if I want to continue, just more of the same. There are some ALMOST moments which were fun when you didn't know they were almost moments. I just want these two to kiss already. XD That sounds bad, but I cannot help it. Again, for most I see them as brother/sister with the occasional oh yes, I see some chemistry so a couple. But fun volume despite that. We get some fun summer events like going to a river and eating yummy food, wearing yukata and fireworks, picnics, games with friends, and more! And of course tons of bad luck, it is a wonder this guy is still alive given all that happens with him.
simple yet cute and fluffy romance comedy manga series in which Fdom is a must. it isn't your typical shoujo manga. it is a heartwarming love story which contains simple and nature of love between two characters and no complex drama. i haven't read up until the latest chapter, since my brother and i haven't bought the remaining books. all in all, it's a pretty good palate cleanser after a heavy story.
I’m enjoying the volumes more and more. I love the relationship between Izumi and Shikimori! Also their friends are really awesome! It’s so funny seeing Shikimori getting jealous of Inuzuka even if there’s nothing to be jealous of. I really enjoyed when they were at Hachimitsu’s place playing “Mario kart”, it was funny to see that Izumi has bad luck even inside the game. And Shikimori’s dog is soooo cute! I didn’t see her dog on the anime so it was awesome seeing Kara!

More and more, we see that Shikimori dearly loves Ikumi, AND also wants to tackle him, hold him down, and have her way with him. I like it! I like a cute yet tough girl who's not afraid to say what she wants, or even just take it! The 5 friends spend a fun summer together, having all sorts of adventures. Such an enjoyable story!
Another adorable volume but it’s getting kinda stale. I know this is probably in the slice of life genre as well but it’s lacking a plot and it’s getting kinda old and repetitive. The art is pretty though! I’m not going to be in a huge rush to get the next volume but I will eventually.
This volume contains summer activities, fireworks, riverside antics, picnics and more! Cute and sweet for the most part with some nice comedic or awkward moments. I am enjoying this series quite a bit so far!
Okay now that the side cast joined in more this is becoming really fun. It is true Shikimori is more than just a cutie. We see her in regular clothes, helping out around the house, we meet her older brother, and of course we head to the beach. This is a fun volume.
