Grace Holbrook believed she couldn't have children, but now she was pregnant after just one night with sexy, bad boy Ford McCabe. She was delighted by the news, but not so thrilled when Ford insists they get married, especially when his recent return to Whitaker Falls after eleven years away is shrouded in secrets.
Ford has always wanted Grace. Even back when he was the town rebel and should have known better -- until he was blamed for the death of her brother and was shunned by the community. Now a successful and wealthy businessman, he's back to claim what is rightfully his . . . including Grace and the baby they'd created together.
Mia Porter’s books are sweet, classic romances set in small towns, featuring sexy heroes and the women who bring them to their knees (in the very best way!). All books are full-length, stand-alone novels that can be read in any order.
It’s hard for me to imagine that I’ve been writing romances for over twenty years now! I started at the young age of 21, just after I got married. Reading romances, and then writing them, came about as a result of having too much time on my hands. When I first married my husband Don, I was working a regular nine to five job and he worked swing shift, from four in the afternoon until midnight. It wasn’t an ideal schedule for newlyweds, and in order to pass those hours when I was alone I started reading romances, and eventually tried my hand at writing them. The road to publication wasn’t an easy one. It took me five years and dozens of rejections to make my first sale, which was to Harlequin for their “Stolen Moments” line. THE FAMILY MAN, written under the pseudonym Danielle Kelly, was one of the twelve novellas published in 1993 for this promotional line.
It took me another two and a half years (and more rejections!) to sell my second book. HEAVEN’S GIFT (written under my own name) was published in October 1995 by Leisure Love Spell for their “An Angel’s Touch” series. Another two years passed of collecting even more rejections before I finally sold to Harlequin Romance and Harlequin Temptation. At the time, writing for both Temptation and Harlequin Romance provided me with a wonderful creative outlet for both my modern, ultra-sexy stories, and my warmer, traditional romances. But as the years passed, I realized how much I enjoyed writing the sexier stories and streamlined my career accordingly so that I was no longer writing the sweet traditional romances, and instead focused on the hotter, sexier stories for Temptation and Blaze.
After writing over two dozen books for Harlequin, I decided to branch out. I wanted to write anthologies and single titles, and came up with an idea about three sexy brothers with the last name of “Wilde”. Little did I know that those Wilde brothers would become such a sensation with readers. In the second Wilde book, WILDE THING, four Wilde cousins were introduced, and readers started writing in for their stories, too. It’s been a joy and pleasure to write each of the Wilde stories, and I want to thank everyone for purchasing those books and putting them on the USA Today Bestseller list!
I’ve been a full-time writer for years, which consists of being deep in deadlines, writing proposals (growling at the husband to fix a glitch in the computer so I can get back to work!), perusing contracts, line-edits (stressing over a scene that won’t work or characters that just won’t talk or cooperate with my plans for them!), galleys, art-fact sheets, promotion, and other publishing paperwork. Admittedly, I wouldn’t trade all the craziness in for pantyhose, rush hour traffic, and a nine-to-five job again. Writing is hard work, but I find the rewards are well worth the effort. Fan letters are one of those priceless rewards, and can keep me on a high for days! I’ve met the most wonderful people through my books, some of which I now consider good friends.
My first book by this author! The book was nothing that I haven't read before. It falls into category of OK. It has a very sweet and understandable hero with a typical mommy daddy issues plot.
A great little story of a man determined to redeem his name after a questionable childhood. Who also wanted to beg forgiveness from the only woman he ever loved.
Ford was a hell raiser in his youth. He drove the town crazy with his bad behavior and childish pranks. He was an illegitimate son of a woman who spent more time hanging off a bar stool than raising her son. If not for the his best friend Aaron and the love of Aaron's sister Grace, he most likely would have starved. When he is blamed for Aaron's death, even though it was deemed an accident, he knew he had to leave town. He was hell bent on making something of himself.
Grace was a sweet caring girl. She loved Ford and helped him as much as she could. She knew there was more to him than what the town thought of him. Grace was devastated when Ford up and left without so much as a goodbye. He reputation is ruins for even associating with him, she eventually marries a man she doesn't love. That marriage is short lived and now she lives alone and runs a flower shop.
Now Ford is back, ready to show the town he isn't that rebellious kid anymore. Unfortunately, they aren't welcoming him back with open arms. Especially, Grace's father.
--no cheating or ow/om drama --both are with others after he left town, but there is not much detail. Grace had been married but it was loveless --not very steamy --some pushing by heroine --epilogue that was a few years out
While this story is sweet, it was entirely too predictable and thus boring. For me it was a complete snoozefest.
Grace runs into Her First and the sparks fly again. After a one-night stand, surprise! the infertile woman is pregnant. Baby's father insists they marry, blackmailing her with a public outing of paternity if she doesn't agree, and surprise! they fall in love. But there's still something the baby's father is holding back, and surprise! that secret threatens to end their relationship until he (surprise!) changes his mind. Grace's father still has animosity toward the kid who killed his son, and doesn't approve of the marriage or acknowledge the baby as his grandchild. Then a public confrontation results in (surprise!) a private change of heart, and (surprise!) they all live happily ever after.
No. None of that was a surprise. It is textbook romance. Sometimes these kind of books are a good way to pass a lazy summer afternoon, but the rest of the book should be perfection. Here it was not. There were significant, glaring grammatical errors that could only make it to print if no one edited the novel. Overall, I'm really sorry I wasted my time, but at least I got this during a freebie promotion so I didn't waste my money, too.
This book was predictable and cheesy but I actually loved it. It was super fast paced. Kept me intrigued and I couldn't help myself; I fell in love with Ford. Ugh. This was definitely worth my time.
The Millionaire's Proposal is a sweet book written by Janelle Denison, however this is the new and improved version, the first one coming out in 1998, a Harlequin Romance named The Baby Surprise! This book is the story of Grace Holbrook and Ford McCabe.
Friends since they were in grade school, Grace grew up in a loving home, and as they grew up Ford became known as the hoodlum of the town and a rebel without a cause, but Grace fell in love with him. One day she got up and he was gone, leaving her broken- hearted, after he was accused of causing her brother's death.
Years went by and Grace got married but to someone her Dad wanted for her and after 5 years, and being told she was infertile, they split up and now Grace has been single again for quite some time. She lives by herself, and her Mom died a year after her brother, so it is just her and her Dad and even at her age, he still tries to run her life.
After 11 years, Ford McCabe returns home a millionaire, and while some accept him, most do not. Ford still wants Grace after all these years. And she wants him too, but is afraid. After Ford and Grace spend the night together Grace avoids Ford for almost a month until he can't take it anymore, so he goes to her house-and finds the positive pregnancy test in her bathroom! What follows is a storm of angst, fighting, and opinions all over town expressed within their earshot!
The book is full of emotional angst and the author puts a little twist in the plot that throws everything including Grace into a tailspin. What will happen-will she decide to try with Ford, what will her Father say, what will the townspeople say, can a town full of narrow minded people accept Ford back into the town he grew up in? Especially when he does something that threatens the whole town!
I gave this book 5 stars, and I look forward to more from this author.
Very predictable formula and plot. Predictable can be really good but I wouldn't put this book in that category. If you don't read many of this type of genre then it will be an easy romance read that doesn't get graphic.
This was a cute story, but there was nothing really special about it. Nothing that grasped you and kept you up all night until you reached the very end.
I honestly like the first few pages of this story. Second chance romances are a hit or miss for me and for this story, though it didn’t impressed me that much, I have to say that it was still a pretty decent read. Plus, I find the “first” meeting of the main characters a bit entertaining. I like heroes that aren’t just hot but also talk and act hot. And my! Ford certainly caught my attention there!
The Millionaire’s Proposal is the second chance romance story between Grace and Ford. Ford was a known troubled kid in their town thus gaining him more hate from the town people. Grace was told by her father to stay away from him but that can’t be help since he’s a good friend of his older brother, Aaron. Because of that, she got to learn more about him and then sympathize with his situation. Their friendship then grew into boyfriend-girlfriend relationship, until an accident came that changed their lives forever.
Ford left Whitwalker after the accident but came back after 11 years without the trace of the troubled kid he was once. He then met up with Grace and the two of them catch up after not seeing each other for such a long time. Grace believed that she’s sterile because she wasn’t able to conceive when she’s still married with her then ex-husband, which was also the main reason of the divorce. But after her one night stand, she was surprised to discover that she’s pregnant with Ford’s child! I know, sorry for the spoiler hehe.
The two of them we’re having a great time catching up when her father came and told her about the reason of Ford’s return. Ford we’re so full of secrets and are reluctant to tell her thus making it hard for her to trust him. After finding out about her pregnancy, she’s determined to raise her child on her own. But Ford doesn’t want his child to grow up just like him (without a family), so he propositioned her of a wedding.
I am giving this one a 3-star rating. It wasn’t that remarkable but it sure gave me a good time. I love stories with family drama. I hate drama, but when it’s a family drama, I wouldn’t mind at all. Anything with family in it whether it was good, bad, sad, small family or big, it’s all good to me.
Ford was branded as a bad boy and a troubled teen. He lived with his alcoholic mother that didn’t care for him at all. Without guidance and love from his mother, he didn’t grew well, he was always doing trouble that’s why all the people in Whitwalker hates him. It was only Grace and her brother Aaron that understands why he’s doing all those things. Their closeness then resulted into them falling in love with each other. And then on one fateful night, all of those changes when her brother Aaron died and a year after, her mother passed away. She suffered a great loss and her reputation was tainted because of her association with the troubled kid. That’s the reason why her father hates Ford so much. After her brother’s burial, Ford left the town without even saying goodbye. 11 years ago, he came back.
I really like the idea. You can really see how this troubled kid grew to a man he is now – a successful millionaire. I always like it when one of the main characters came from a humble beginning and then worked their way to the top. It always fills my heart with pride and joy when finally, they reached all their dreams. And besides, after all the bad things Ford had endured, I have to say that he deserves everything he has now.
Ford going back to Whitwalker to face his past and to correct them was an understandable reason. But his grudge with the bar that his mother used to work (which also makes her become alcoholic) wasn’t healthy at all since it clouded his mind on what’s really need to be done.
I actually anticipated the conflict which makes me really hate Ford. I always believe that the foundation of a good relationship is trust and not just love and respect alone. I don’t see any reason being in a relationship when you don’t trust your partner, the first time Ford “omitting” the truth from her, I was annoyed but I understand it because they’re not in a relationship yet. But the second time?! My! He should have told her about it the moment the idea came to mind. But my irritation with what he did was pushed back when Grace was having a fit with his father. I really understand her father, that even after 11 years, he still holds a grudge with Ford. If I lost all of my loved ones because of him, I will sure feel the same way, but keeping it for 11 long years?! My! That’s pretty long, and staying angry to someone is such a straining thing to do, and it’s really not good for the heart. There were times that Grace’s father irritated me for his stubbornness but I can’t fully hate his character, he’s a father and a husband after all. The scene where they finally settle things over, it really made me cry. It wasn’t very emotional but I’m always a crybaby.
Both of the main characters didn’t give me a lasting impression. Yes, Ford caught my attention during the first chapter but he failed to hold it ‘till the end. Overall, I guess he’s a fine man. Same goes for Grace too. She was fine and there was no part in this story that I remember hating her. So I guess my reaction for both the characters were just neutral.
This was my first time from the author so I wasn’t really expecting much. The story line was good, plus I love the fact that this story was taken from both of the characters’ POV, it was very reader friendly too, and the sexy scene wasn’t obscene.
The story as a whole wasn’t really exceptional but it was undeniably really good. If you’re up for a decent short read, then you may want to check this one out.
I wish this was longer mostly because there were a lot of problematic people/characters (not with how they were written but on how they were acting) that has to be dealt with. The residents of Whitaker Falls were annoying and judgmental, especially the Grace's father. I would have loved it if the reconciliation among the characters were drawn out to make it feel more natural.
I also wish there were more moments for Ford and Grace, and that we got to see Ford as a father. I felt a little bit disconnected during their time together because it was more like living inside Grace's head rather than being in the moment with her.
Overall, it was a good and fast read. It was a good story about second-chances.
I had a big problem with the H in this story. He deceived her about his plans at first. Then he did it again even after she called him on it -- and the second time was far worse, because he knew she would never approve of his plans. I can't believe she forgave him so easily, because he did NOT deserve it. He should have had to do some serious groveling, and even that should have taken a while to gain her forgiveness.
And about her father. First, he was horrible, and it would have served him right if she had never spoken to him again. Second, there is NO way a man with that much hate would change his mind after one conversation with his daughter and her husband. People with that level of anger just don't change that quickly, and usually not at all.
Boy from the wrong side of the tracks returns years later, all matured and cashed up.
The only person who ever believed in him was florist owner Grace.
One dinner at the country club - a first time ordeal for him - and one whoops-a-baby later, they have to get married because he knows all too well what it's like to grow up illegitimate...
*eye roll*
Clichéd to the max.
I think it actually got worse as it went on, all the way to the neatly wrapped reconciliation with her father...
*more eye rolling*
and the birth of the child, who's gender Ford already knew!
A little bit predictable but I enjoyed reading it.
Rebellious teenager from the wrong side of town falling for the beautiful girl whose father doesn't approve of. When a tragedy happens, he leaves without saying goodbye. When he shows up 11 years later to win her back, things get steamy and she ends up pregnant, he demands that she marries him. He then sets out to show her that he loves her.
A quick, easy flow and cutesy romance, because a few dark romances I needed something light. It’s well written but the reason she initially gives him the boot is so weak that it dropped a full star from my review.
This book is a re-release that was originally a Harlequin Romance, and it :) as the sweetness and romantic bent typical of the genre. A little dated, obviously, but well done.
It was a beautiful story from beginning to end. The hardships Ford grew up in, we're not easy and that's what motivated him to become someone better. 😍😍
Nothing spectacular about this book. The whole basically forced marriage was a little much for me. Doesn’t really fit with our new society. Just makes Grace seem weak and Ford controlling.
Poorly written, stilted and unbelievable characters/dialogue. I just couldn't care less whatever mystery of the past/present separated/brought these two insipid nitwits back together.
