They survived the witch’s game. Now they’re fighting back… The offspring of the four families have barely managed to escape the Bell Witch’s deadly harvest. Exhausted, terrified, and haunted by their families’ twisted secrets, they know that death still awaits in the woods. Unless they can work together, and end the curse once and for all.
Determined to free their families from the witch’s game, the young survivors return to the mist-shrouded forests of Black River, Tennessee. But they soon realize they are not alone. Something is watching, stalking them through the gnarled trees. Something that wants the witch’s secrets to stay hidden.
When a bloody confrontation forces the group to flee even deeper into the woods, they soon find themselves in the witch’s decrepit old house. As the full moon rises over the cursed ruins, they must each confront their darkest fears and doubts. How far are they willing to go to end the witch’s bloody curse?
Basheba is still my number one in this novel even though her psychotic side is starting to shine a lot more in these pages. For me this book was more of a filler bringing in the background of the families and the cult-like craziness that surrounds their hometown. I can see this as a movie in the making. Onward to Book 3!
I loved this book and the one before it and I didn't expect to. Kindle Unlimited often throws me recommendations that are badly written or the characters are awful.
This series is sort of a cross between the Hunger Games meets The Bell Witch Haunting. The plot moves very quickly, the central premise is interesting, but the best parts are the characters and how they build relationships with each other and how those relationships reflect on their family relationships.
So I have read the first book in this series, and to me it makes it all the more exciting to follow this story from the beginning. This series so far is absolutely amazing it grabs your attention and you get locked in!! Once you "see" or put a face to the characters, its just like a movie playing as you are reading; although I really imagined Basheba totally like emo/goth dark hair etc.... but if you like excitement, thrill, suspense, and being on the edge of your seat, read it! I do feel like there may be some things a little too predictable. I am not far enough in to see if the things that seem so predictable really do happen, so i could be siking myself out anyways!! I hope it is an element of suprise because i love being on the edge of my seat filled with questions and suspense!! Thank you Sara so far every book of yours that I have read are absolutely amazing. I recommend this book, it is well written and exciting.
The second installment of the Bell Witch series is, once again, well written and entertaining, but action/adventure more than horror. Once engaged in their adventure, our 4 main characters work together to survive. There is more of the backstory and more character development, but my complaint with this installment is the same as my disappointment with the first, it moved to quickly to be frightening.
My impression is that this is a young adult series. The idea of the Bell Witch comes from an actual haunting that is well documented in Southern folklore. While this story has very little to do with the original Bell Witch, it seems Clancy is drawing on and elaborating her own childhood fantasies around the idea of a disgruntled witch who takes retribution on the descendants of family members.
Fast paced and entertaining, this installment builds on the first and does not lack for action. Once again, atmosphere and slow building tension are not what this series are about.
Disclaimer: I received this book for free from LibraryThing in return for an honest review.
Sacrificial Grounds is the second book in the Bell Witch Series and you should read the first book in the series before reading this book otherwise it will be confusing. Bathsheba Bell, Willimina (Mina) Crane, Cadwyn Winthrop, and Osgood (Ozzie) Davis/Sewall survived the witch's harvest last October. Now they are planning to put a stop to the witch's harvest for good. In order to do that they need to return to where it all began, Black River, Tennessee. But when even the town is trying to stop you, what chance do you have against the Bell Witch?
I could not put this book down! It was a quick read and goes deeper into the backstories of the characters that we were introduced to in the previous book. Overall I enjoyed this book and I cannot wait to read the newt book in this series!
Again, I cannot say enough about the author and narrator of this series.
This second book in the series, continues to build on the characters from the first book. This was great because I love the characters so much.
They’re all coaxed back into Black River to try to defeated Katrina, to try to free their families from the games she plays with their lives every year.
Again, there’s no cliff hanger, but the battle is definitely not over and there’s more to come in the next book. As I said in my review of books 1, I read and listened to this book as we were traveling over the holidays. The Audible is absolutely INCREDIBLE!! John Pirhalla does such a good job at giving each character its own voice and personality and gives more life to the comedic tension Sara Clancy creates in her writing.
I read all 6 books in the Bell Witch series. The driver to do this was primarily for the characters, and secondary for the plot. But the plot started to fall apart or get too muddled for me after the 3rd book. In a way it was disappointing. The main characters started to get too far out there about the 4th book. I honestly believe the author should have left both the plot and characters alone. The scene settings were fairly decent and remained constant throughout the series. All in all it was worth the time and effort, and I found it enjoyable.
I'm glad this next book stuck with the characters from the first one. I like them and wanted to learn more about them and what happened after the Harvest. It seems there's a lot of secrets the four families have - some revealed here - and that will keep me reading! The Bell Witch has a lot of tricks up her sleeve, and I have a feeling we haven't seen all she can do.
This is book number two and it builds on book number one. So I recommend you read this first. The storyline is well written with good character building. You will start to know the characters and their moves. It is fast paced. If you are a fan of thrillers and Horror stories you will love this series. I recommend this book.
What can i say that i love this series. I have not like a character since Anita Blake before she became a whiny nymphomaniac and that she has to have sex with every supernatural being. I like the four heros in this family trying to break the curse. I can't wait to start book three...5 evil bell witch out of 5
As the family members start to fight back against the Bell Witch, they are going to discover its not as easy as they think. Some are finding family members sold out, others are finding they were not told everything - but together, they can come together to try and break the curse.
Great book. I enjoyed this one. Interesting take on the Bell Witch haunting.
I totally recommend this book! The characters are great! The story is well written. And you can turn page after page and never be bored. And you need know, Did it work?
Loved it! It's packed with spooky action from the very start and is a fun read all the way through. The characters are interesting and well developed and the story line is a lot of fun.
This book is just as great as the first!! If you like these kind of book, you'll enjoy the whole story line and books!! Can't wait to read the 3rd one!!!!!!!
Love this series. I enjoyed this sequel better than the first. Let me tell you, Basheba is that bitch okay? Excuse my language but I like her badassness
Ok basheba and her dog are definitely my favorites! It was kind of a “filler” book but it lacks nothing. I’m starting the third now because I’m an addict and can’t wait to see what happens next.
I was lucky enough to get a free audio book code from Scare street. I am volunteering to leave this review. Awesome audio book plenty of twist and turns. Starting the next book now.
This one wasn’t as scary as the first one was but it was still super good! The action/fight scenes were written so well. I’m super excited to get to the last book.
