Far Reaching Consequences

Rate this book
Phoebe needs a second chance at life.

In the aftermath of the devastation from her failed marriage, Phoebe returns to her old stomping grounds to open her own bed and breakfast. Starting over is the bravest thing she’s ever done – or so she thinks. But opening her front door to find a blast from her past on her front porch changes all that. The teenager she’d once known has become a jaw-dropping, dominant man in his prime.

He wasn’t looking for a relationship until she blazed back into his life.

Graham runs his own construction business, remodeling homes, and building brand new ones. When his buddy gives him a lead on a new project, he never expects to run into Phoebe, the woman he shared a single kiss with eons ago. Nor is he prepared for the Dominant in him to stake his claim before the end of their first meeting. He wanted her in high school but there had been too wide a gulf separating them. Now, Graham will stop at nothing until he makes her his. But there are larger forces at work, attempting to tear them apart.

When everything Phoebe holds dear becomes a target, Graham will risk it all for the one woman he knows he can never live without.

Publisher’s Note: This steamy second chance romance contains elements of power exchange.

Anya Summers' Crescent City Kings is one of the best kinky romance series out there, and I hope she continues it after the third book (or at least writes something new that's equally spectacular). In Far Reaching Consequences the characters are authentic, with deep emotions, real flaws, and honest relationships. I don't want to say too much to spoil the book in my review, but she manages to subvert expectations and deliver a satisfying ending. I can't wait to read book three.

I've read many of Ms. Summers' books and recommend them if you're looking for BDSM stories that contain consent, relatively light play, and characters who are likeable and relatively realistic, and who view BDSM as a partnership. Although this is the second book in a series, it can be read as a standalone as each follows the burgeoning relationship between one Dom from Club Underworld and the woman he falls in love with. I do want to advise prospective readers that although the sex scenes are detailed, there's little BDSM action in this particular book.

In this story, Phoebe is a survivor of extreme domestic violence (her memories may be triggers for some). With her ex-husband in prison for trying to kill her, she decides to open an inn in New Orleans. Her contractor is also her high-school crush, Graham, and soon her affections are rekindled. The plot concentrates on their growing relationship, complicated by their pasts (Graham's ex-wife had cheated on him). Here, I appreciated that unlike so many books that depict a domestic abuse survivor, plenty of time has passed since Phoebe was with her husband; she and Graham take it relatively slowly (for this genre); they discuss at length her very reasonable fears regarding giving up control; and Graham more than earns her trust.

TBH, this is not one of my favorite books from this author. Although I liked the MC (we get dual povs so get to know them both), and admired Phoebe's strength and tenacity, the story suffers from Ms. Summers' usual problematic writing style. While it's technically competent and at times very evocative ("Jagged pieces of glass hung in eerie suspension"), it's also far too detailed (did we really need to know that Daisy's claws needed cutting or what Phoebe planned to serve at each meal?) and very repetitious. Yes, we get it: Graham thinks his ex-wife is evil; Phoebe liked Graham in high school; and each thinks the other is cute. Usually, I skim some parts of her books, but, in this case, I skimmed a lot since the detail quickly turned into info-dump. While I understand that the author uses the mansion's renovation as the means through which the MC fall in love, it was still too much. I really urge the author to consult an editor and/or beta reader: as it stands now, the detail and repetition (particularly the endless internal monologues) really slow down the pace and, thus, affect my enjoyment of these books.

In addition, the has been done to death in these books and I really wish authors would find something else to create tension between the couple and suspense for the reader. In this particular case, Phoebe's past history of abuse was already enough of an obstacle; more was not needed.

Shout-Out: Thank you, Ms. Summers, for stressing that the inn needed to accommodate those with disabilities.

If the above doesn't bother you, however, you will probably enjoy this since there's no question that we root for Phoebe and Graham's HEA.

3 1/2 stars. I added a half star for Graham's lovely apology to Phoebe when he did something wrong. So many authors seem to think that "real men don't apologize;" well, actually, real men do.

Note: I adhere to the ratings system as laid out by Goodreads: 2 stars = it was okay; 3 stars = liked it; 4 stars = really liked it; 5 stars = it was amazing. I gave this book 3 1/2 stars because I liked both MCs, even though I thought the writing was repetitious and the pace very slow. I do not think that every book I read is "amazing;" further, I think that it cheapens the rating system to always assign 4 or 5 stars. If a book really earns the 4 or 5 stars (and I realize that this is, to some degree, subjective), I'll give them -- but it certainly shouldn't apply to every book. YMMV, and everyone should enjoy/rate these books as they wish.

Additional Note: I did not receive this book as an ARC; I'm not another author who hosts or is hosted by other authors in this genre on our websites; and I'm not friends with the authors IRL, "friends" on this site, or friends on any social media site.

Phoebe is starting a new life and building a B&B with the Riverland Plantation she bought to renovate. Turns out, Graham is the builder that she hires for the renovation. Graham and Phoebe have a bit of a history, a memorable kiss in highschool that turned into a lifelong crush in her memories. There was great suffering and physical abuse in Phoebe's marriage but she is now divorced and her ex is in jail for the abuse and murder. Graham is a man to drool over but he's also a dominant who also remembers Phoebe with good memories. With her past abuse and trauma from her past, Phoebe has her support dog Daisy who is also trained to guard Phoebe. If Graham ever wants to renew his affection for Phoebe as he feels he needs to claim her as a dominant, he will have to have patience and built trust slowly and boy does he! There is also some mystery and danger to deal with as someone seems to be after Phoebe and her new life. This whole story starts off with grabbing your attention and never letting up until you get to the HEA and the words The End. I LOVED IT!

I LIVE TO SERVE

The second story in the Crescent City Kings was as good, if maybe not better than the first, and I loved it. Each story will read well as a stand-alone. I will admit this story is an emotional roller coaster ride with the various characters. My heart breaks for Phoebe and all she has lost, the memories, the regrets, and the horror and fear she has endured, and now, trying to move forward in life. The story has a great cast of characters, plenty of interaction, and emotions. This will be the story of Phoebe MacKenzie and Graham Layton.

“I am safe. No one will ever harm me again. I’ve taken all the necessary precautions.”

The story is mystery, suspense, danger, flash-backs, and includes a second chance romance. Phoebe has moved back to Louisana, to Thibodaux Parish, and has purchased Riverland Plantation that she plans to turn into Riverland Bed and Breakfast. She has moved into the caretaker cottage and lives there, along with her German Shepherd, Daisy. She works at Bayou Sin as a waitress, and with the inheritance from her grandfather, she purchased the plantation and now with plans in place, it is time to start the renovation. With the recommendation from Dante, she will contact, Layton Construction and what a surprise to discover that G. C. Layton is none other than Graham, her old high school crush from twenty years ago.

As Graham and his crew work on the remodel, he is still drawn to Phoebe but can tell she is as skittish as a cornered rabbit. It will take time and patience to gain her trust, but when strange things start to happen, he knows he has to protect her. In high school, there was a four year age difference, but now, that doesn’t matter and his heart is in the game. The more he learns about her life, the more he wants to protect her. But she has been hurt, not just emotionally, but physically, and he must be careful with her. Graham is a dominant, part-owner of Club Underworld, and he doesn’t think he can ever do ‘vanilla’ again, but will Phoebe explore his lifestyle of BDSM and power exchange?

“When a woman gives herself fully, surrenders her body, her pleasure to the right man, it is a gift. One to be treasured. I’m not vanilla, Phoebe. I enjoy sex that pushes conventional boundaries. And I am willing to give you time to learn. I realize that Dominance and submission might not be for you. All I’m asking is that you try.”

The story is a beautiful exploration into freely giving up control, learning to trust, knowing that your partner wants you to feel pleasure beyond anything you have ever known. This won’t be easy for Phoebe, and Graham doesn’t push her, giving her the freedom to know that she can use her safeword, that she is really the one in control. For her, sex has never been pleasant, with an abusive husband, she doesn’t know if she can surrender to Graham, or to enjoy sex—but he is going to prove to her that she can with him.

The scenes are emotional and erotic as Phoebe surrenders her control to Graham and learns the beauty of trust and, for the first time in her life, experiences orgasmic bliss—repeatedly. They set their guidelines and he respects her need for control in her everyday work life and that in the bedroom she will submit. What happens when danger makes him take control to protect her—can she grant him that during this trying time or has he broken his promise to her? Who is terrorizing Phoebe? Has Rob come to finish what he started? Or is there a new threat?

I love the chemistry between Graham and Phoebe and how protective he is with her, but he also praises the strengths he sees in her. When she trusts him to try a few scenes, relinquishing control and soars with pleasure, it is a power trip for both of them. At his house, she is the one to push him to try and explore more—she would have never done that a month before, but with his support and guidance, she has found freedom.

“I would like to think we had to go our separate ways and experience what we did so that we would recognize just how special this is between us. We were given a second chance when many don’t even get the first.” –Phoebe

“I don’t think that forever will be long enough with you. But It’s a start.” --Graham

Far Reaching Consequences is the second book in the Crescent City Kong’s series, but could be read as a stand alone. Phoebe has a dream of reinventing her life, starting with an old plantation that she wants renovated into an inn. Graham arrives as the main contractor on the project, and is surprised to see Phoebe, an old friend from high school. Phoebe has experienced a dark past, but Graham starts to show her she can trust in others again. But will he be able to connect to her emotionally before danger strikes?

Oh my goodness, this book... I felt like I could experience everything that Phoebe and Graham could and I felt like I was right there next to them! Phoebe was so courageous, so brave, and I loved that she was willing to try things, even if she was a little scared. She stood up for herself, even with her dark past, and I was cheering for her victory from the very beginning! Graham just might be my new favorite book boyfriend - not only was he extremely patient and caring, but he helped Phoebe grow so much. He showed her that he cared, that he could be trusted, that he loved her, and that she wasn’t alone. Hello, if that’s not the perfect man right there, then I don’t know who is. Their connection could be felt right from their first meeting, and while she tried to fight him based on her past, I loved the dance they did, even once she did give over. The focus of this book was definitely on their relationship, which I loved, and then you add in that danger element and phew, I’m completely sold! I love Ms. Summers’ writing, I am already invested in this series, and completely enjoyed reading this book!

Anything by Anya Summers is worth reading

This is by no means the best Ms. Summers has written, but it's still better than some other authors. Editing is poor; phrases are duplicated. Information provided multiple times. I found that most annoying.

Spoiler alert... I would love to see this couple venture off to the island retreat, because those characters have more depth. Perhaps a cook-off?

For me this story is closer to 3.5 stars. This book says it’s a second chance romance, I mean only one kiss while in high school and nothing after for me doesn’t scream second chance romance, it’s more like a hey I remember you from high school remember when we kissed that one time?

Phoebe is looking for a brand new start in her life after surviving a very abusive marriage. Trigger Alert with her abuse it is very graphic and may be a problem for some. She bought an older home with loads of promise that she wants to turn into a bed and breakfast in her hometown. Looking for a contractor puts her back in contact with the guy who gave her the first meaningful kiss in her teenage life Graham.

At first startled to run into Phoebe again after all this time Graham is pleased to finally have an opportunity to hopefully start something with Phoebe since he too remembers their only kiss.

Both of them have some baggage, with Phoebe’s being more of a huge life size trunk. Graham had an ex that cheated on him so his trust in women is very guarded. A good portion of the book revolves around Graham helping Phoebe come to grips with the abuse that she went through. As the author states there is a power exchange/spankings. I’m not a fan of calling someone sir or master in the bedroom, thankfully it’s not so much that I couldn’t skip over it when I saw it.

Took me a while to get over how much parts of this book reminded me of another book with the female lead going through something pretty much identical to Phoebe’s experiences. That lead was also fixing up an old house. This author at least made Phoebe not as pig headed when it came to taking assistance from others. That other character wouldn’t take any and it almost cost her, her life. The characters in this story had more depth and maturity such as Graham apologizing for overstepping, which drew you into their situation, and you were desperately hoping they would figure things out to get to their HEA.

There were times when the characters spent too much time in their heads. Plus some of the story was repetitious and drawn out. Some of the mundane things could have been left out. Then for some reason we were suddenly given a stalker that was causing more problems for Phoebe. The ending felt very rushed and we didn’t really get much of an explanation as to why things played out the way that it did and why the really nasty language!?!? For me the ending was a bit murky and left me with lots of questions.

I received an ARC from Booksprout and I am leaving a voluntary review.

Oh boy. So as most know, I didn’t read FSOG or watch the movies. BSDM used to be on my favorite sub-genres to read but that book more or less ruined it for me. I was told by too many people that I would throw my Kindle and Nook, so I didn’t bother. And the influx of all the books that followed, I just stopped reading them. To my surprise, I choose this book to read for a couple of reasons. One being the author. I trust Ms. Summers to write an emotional, character-driven book with a satisfying ending that is believable. The smexy parts are a bonus for me when reading.

Ms. Summers didn’t disappoint with Graham and Phoebe’s story. It’s about a second chance at romance, finding the strength to give up a small part of the control and to trust that the control that you give it will cherish it, respect it and give you wings to fly. Phoebe’s been through hell and back so finding a person to trust is really hard for her. She doesn’t give up control at all and knowing that she could possibly do that with Graham is huge for her. What makes the story so poignant is Graham. He realizes this early and doesn’t push her. He gives her the time and space that she needs.

Both Graham and Phoebe are richly drawn and fabulous characters. There are some flashbacks, danger and emotionally filled scenes that kept me glued to the book. I read this book in one afternoon telling my boys to leave me alone. The secondary characters are great, too. I didn’t read the first book but you will not be lost in this one. Ms. Summers gives you just enough that you will want to read the first one, too.

Again, I went into this book with my eyes open and I’m sure glad that I did. Ms. Summers and her other pseudonym are fast becoming my favorite authors. I can always expect a great story, wonderful characters and a satisfying ending that I crave more. And yes, with this story, I will dip my toes back into the world of BDSM. Baby steps, just like Phoebe.

Far Reaching Consequences worked for me because of its two wonderful protagonists. Phoebe is recovering from a long, abusive marriage by setting out on her own and restoring a foreclosed property into a B&B, and Graham is her contractor. But they’re also long-lost friends from their youth, so their reconnection is exciting and unexpected. Both carry scars from past relationships, and that affects the immediate pull they feel for one another. But the past is coming for Phoebe and Graham in more ways than just their memories….

I liked that Phoebe is both wounded and resilient, reacting to the abuse of her past while actively working to overcome it. Graham was also wounded after his divorce, but he’s found release in his BDSM lifestyle. One thing I really enjoyed about Far Reaching Consequences is that Graham truly respected the challenges Phoebe faced in addressing relationships and her own sexuality.

While Graham reveals his dominant nature too openly for me (that didn’t gibe with Phoebe’s lack of knowledge of this lifestyle), Summers avoids the tired “Dom magically getting past old wounds with a small dose of dominance” cliché that you find in other books. The club scene of so many BDSM romances is avoided here because it isn’t right for Phoebe, so Graham finds ingenious ways to make Phoebe comfortable not only with him and his lifestyle, but with herself once again.

The threats that Phoebe faces bring intrigue to the story, and Summers admirably moved the suspense elements of Far Reaching Consequences in ways that were surprising. Crescent City Doms is turning out to be Summers’ strongest series to date, and this romance is a great new part of that series.

This was a highly emotional read which covered an issue that haunts
many women in today’s society.

Phoebe MacKenzie had lived through such heartache before returning
home to Louisiana. With the inheritance that her grandfather left her,
Phoebe purchased Riverland Plantation. Her dream was to run her own
Bed and Breakfast and finally have control of her life and feel safe.

To Phoebe’s great surprise and delight, the contractor recommended to
her was none other than her first ever crush.Graham Layton had turned
out to be one fine looking man.He exuded testosterone and dominated
her mind however despite her dormant desires reappearing, Phoebe could
not risk taking a chance. Her flash-backs haunted her dreams but Graham’s
loving persistence made Phoebe decide to take a leap of faith and open her
heart to him. Graham gently started Phoebe on a journey of submission. She
called to the Dominant in him and his need to protect her was paramount as
there was someone out to hurt Phoebe. Was her past catching up with her?

This book was such a roller coaster ride of highly strung emotions. There was
intense chemistry between Graham and Phoebe as she blossomed under his
hands. The storyline unfolded slowly and was not hurried in anyway. The plot
includes danger, mystery, mild elements of BDSM and intense sex scenes .I
connected with this book and would not hesitate to recommend it.

I am voluntarily writing this review for this book I received through Booksprouts this.

Phoebe was waiting for her contractor to come and talk with her. She was now ready to open her bed and breakfast at the Riverland Plantation. When the contractor stepped in she realized it was someone she knew when she was in high school Graham. Phoebe remembered she doesn’t do relationships as she watches Graham. Graham new the Dom in him was looking at her. Graham like to keep women at arm’s length at Club Underworld where he could live out his lifestyle. Graham and Phoebe were getting to know each other through the renovations. Phoebe and Graham went out on a date and she realized that he would never hurt her like her ex husband. Graham wanted her to trust him and would do whatever to have that trust. Graham wasn’t sure he could go back to a vanilla relationship and did he want anything permanent with Phoebe.Graham knew he had to have her but then remembered what he found out about her ex who beat and raped her. Her renovations were coming along and with the security system being installed. He told her he wanted to ease her into the lifestyle when he explained it to her about power exchange. Things started to get weird Phoebe had a feeling some one had been watching her but when she checked she couldn’t find anyone.
Graham had been staying at her house to protect her.. Twists, turns, and attempted murder makes this a fast and good read

After the first book in this series, I’ve been impatiently waiting to get my hands on the next one. (And I’ll be impatiently waiting to get my hands on the one after this.. and the next one… and the next one…) I am very impressed. I always tend to get a little nervous reading any book that involves the Lifestyle and a heroine who is a domestic abuse survivor. The situation is handled with a very deft touch in this book. No part of Phoebe’s amazing journey of survival is taken for granted here. There are in-depth conversations between Phoebe and Graham before anything happens between them; including discussions about consent, safewords, and the true nature of the power exchange. Their chemistry is instant, but their relationship is a slow build. Which I really appreciated considering her history. These characters felt very real to me in their reactions. Phoebe wasn’t a pushover and Graham understood the necessity for genuine apology when he committed alpha-hole acts. There were times I thought Graham was a little over the top with how quickly he went “all in”, but I loved seeing how devoted that made him to Phoebe’s care and well-being. I’m already looking forward to seeing what the next book in this series brings us.

I truly loved this book, Anya Summers truely has written another winner in my opinion. The City Cresent Kings really are a delight, each male although Dominant knows when his women is submissive and also knows how to handle a women who has had a bad time in her life. Graham a construction builder and in his own time a Dominant, is given a number for a women who wants her house fixed up, and when he gets there , there stands a beautiful women whom he recognizes as Phoebe with whom he shared a wonderful kiss with.
Phoebe has come back home, picking up the pieces, learning to be a strong women who can make her own decisions. Her ex husband tried to kill her, and is in jail for murder and her abuse.
She sees Graham at the door and is assailed with memories long gone. She hires him to do her villa up, but is unaware that she is been stalked, till dead animal bodies are found on her property. Sparks fly between them both and a love is kindled again, but it takes courage for her to be with him, can she overcome her fears?

A must read, it really is a great book, 5 plus stars and i have to say im looking forward to the next book which comes out.

Phoebe is creating a new life for herself after a dangerously abusive marriage. Her dreams of rebuilding and creating a bed and breakfast from an old mansion are about to come true. All she wants is to see her dreams of her bed and breakfast come true, that is - until she hires a contractor to work on the mansion and realizes he is Graham her high school cruss and first kiss.
Graham a successful contractor is going thru the motions of life, but is he really happy?
Graham a strong alpha male feeds a strong need to protect Phoebe and she feels a strong attraction to Graham, a surprise to her after suffering life threatening abuse in the past and never expecting to feel love again.
This book navigates the couples feelings and struggles to overcome past hurts, huge differences in sexual appetites and hidden dangers threatening Phoebe. These is plenty of steamy scenes, mystery , danger and a great cast of characters that can be revisited in other books in the series.

I loved this book. This story pulls you in right from the beginning and keeps you on the end of your seat till the very end. I wanted it to go on more. Phoebe is back to her old stomping ground after a failed marriage and abusive ex-husband. She is ready to start over. Graham runs his own construction company and is going to a new protentional job. When the door open and Phoebe is on the other side. One look at her and he knows she is the one and will have her. One look in her eyes tells him a whole lot. She is holding back secrets and he wants to protect her. The connection between these two is amazing. The characters fit well together and develop and evolve nicely. They have a lot to over come as they both have secrets. Will they be able to lower the walls they both have built up? I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more about these alpha males and their woman they will stop at nothing to protect and love. I recommend this book and series.

This is a story of second chances for Phoebe and Graham. What started off as a sweet kiss as teenagers morphed into something hot and sensual. Phoebe is trying to move ahead and create something from the dreams she had and she hires Graham to help her realize that dream. With a past like Phoebe's, she could be bitter and hardened. She chooses to keep her distance from people. Graham has is own issues and yet is open to a relationship with Phoebe. Graham is dominant, yet understands Phoebe needs time to trust and learn. When danger lurks, Graham is ready to protect Phoebe. Will his need to protect scare Phoebe away? Will her need to stand on her own two feet cause Graham to give up? Follow along as Graham and Phoebe work towards their HEA! Wonderful secondary characters. Another hit by Ms. Summers!

by sewsummore

Phoebe was a woman who had survived an abusive husband who almost killed her the last time he punished her for the rage he carried inside him. Years later she is a much stronger woman who hides her pain deep inside her, refusing to allow any man close until she met Graham. He was a surviver of a bad marriage, content to have his sexual needs catered for by willing submissives who belonged to his BDSM Club. Not until Phoebe had he felt such an attraction to a woman, or the need to protect her from her past and ease her fears of the future. I enjoyed reading this book and delighted in the loving care and attention Graham showered on Phoebe. His restraint made her trust him and the respect he gave her proved to her that he was a man she could trust.

I loved this book. The story was well written and the characters were complex and relatable.

Phoebe MacKenzie is starting over after years of abuse by her exhusband. She purchased the Riverland Plantation with the intention of turning it into a bed and breakfast. Graham Layton is the contractor that was recommended to her. He also is the first boy who ever kissed her and who she had a huge crush on as a teenager. He also is a Dom, former Army pilot and divorced from a cheater. Their mutual attraction reignited but she is still terrified of men. He helps her learn to trust him and they have a relationship where he gradually introduces her to the BDSM lifestyle. Her dream is threatened when her B&B is broken into and her cottage is set on fire. Graham is able to save her from being abducted and killed. They get their HEA.

Anya Summers has done it again. I love this series and this book is a great addition. Graham and Phoebe shared a single kiss of thanks between an innocent 14 year old and an almost 18 year old. I appreciated teenage Graham's restraint to pursue the connection, but understanding the consequences of anything further. After years apart and years of abuse and worse from her ex, Phoebe returns to her hometown to follow her dream of opening a B&B and who shows up as her contractor, Graham. The connection still seems to be there, but can it be rekindle into something more. I love Graham's thoughtful pursuit of the very skittish and damaged Phoebe, his concern for her needs as well as his own to dominate. Their developing relationship, her past abuse, and the drama that is unfolding, all create one fantastic read. I can't wait for more.

★ The knock of second chances ★

—>>> Freed at last from her abusive ex-husband, who is now serving time behind bars, Phoebe has set out to realize her dreams of turning an old plantation into a bed and breakfast. But first, complete renovations of the rundown property were required. A referral from her boss lands a familiar face on her doorstep, a face she has not seen in nearly two decades. As Graham is hired for the job, he finds that he is more than up to task for everything required, but he realizes that something has caused the dark shadows in her demeanor, and it is becoming clear that someone is targeting her in her new home as well. All of Graham’s protective instincts come to the forefront, and he is going to do everything in his power to protect this woman from his past whom he has never forgotten. This was a great read, along with slow-building steam, suspense and intriguing supportive characters.

Our heroine has escaped an abusive relationship and returned to her home town where she runs into her high school crush. Can they rekindle the good from their past while protecting her from the bad in hers?

This is book two of the series, but it is written as a standalone. No prior reading is required to enjoy this book.

This is a second chance romance with elements of BDSM, mystery and suspense. The story is well written and easy to read with excellent characters that have a lot of depth to them. The plot takes its time to build up the suspense and the romance, but once things get started they roll downhill quickly. I really liked both of our characters, the tough heroine who is trying to start over and the caring hero who wants nothing more than to protect her and make her happy. The chemistry is solid and the story is fun to read.

Highly recommended.

Coming home can have consequences........but for who?

Far Reaching Consequences is the second book in the Crescent City Kings series and is the story of Phoebe MacKenzie and Graham Layton. This is a roller-coaster ride of a second chance romance story. The story itself is filled with drama, intrigue, danger, fear, loss, mystery, lots of very sizzling hot and kink filled sexy times and so much more. The characters are well written and you find yourself rooting for them to make it to the end and their own HEA.
I enjoyed this book and the very intense, exciting and engaging story-line. However, I did have an issue with the proofreading errors and editing issues. I felt it could use another round or two with both to really tighten it up and make the easily spotted corrections. But otherwise I quire enjoyed this book.

Another excellent story from Anya Summers. It follows her usual pattern. Phoebe is a damaged young woman – having survived a marriage where her husband almost killed her, and killed their unborn child. She has moved back to where she grew up, to open a bed and breakfast, and the contractor turns out to be the first guy who kissed her, when she was a freshman in high school. Now he is a successful contractor, and attracted to her. He has a hard time breaking through the defenses she has built in order to protect her from men after her awful experience, but gradually he succeeds at getting her to accept and love him. A few spankings and a lot of loving help along the way. Both characters were strong, and the book moved quickly. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review

Phoebe is back in Louisiana, and she's going to renovate the old plantation into a B&B. Her boss suggests a contractor, and it turns out that they know each other. Graham was a few years ahead of her in school, but they shared one very steamy kiss at the Winter Formal. He's always liked her, but senses that she's hiding something, that he sees fear in her eyes. As they begin to get closer, he feels that she can't fully trust him yet. When someone begins to target her and her property, can he keep her safe? Her abusive ex is in prison, or is he? There are a number of very steamy scenes, but also the suspense and mystery surrounding the vandalism on her property. Graham wants for her to trust him and join him in his lifestyle, and is patient enough to wait for that to happen on her timeline.

An intense love story with heat and danger! 💞❤️🔥💞

Phoebe finally thought she had found somewhere she could be safe live her life on her own terms. After a disastrous marriage, she moved back to her hometown and was going to open a bed & breakfast. Well, that was after her new contractor and old friend, Graham, finished the remodeling of the aging plantation home she bought. Or that's was her hope at least...

I really got caught up in this one. The connection between Phoebe and Graham was intense and the storyline kept you guessing what was going to happen next. 💗🥰💕

This is the second book in the Cresent City Kings series and can easily be read as a standalone. It does deal with the BDSM lifestyle and it's many, many variations so if that's not for you don't read this book. 😉❣️

Phoebe is a young lady that thought she should just stay quiet and never speak of her
abuse by her husband. The decision is taken away when her husband beats her with in
an inch of her life. He is caught and sent to prison. Phoebe is left to deal with the emotional,
physical and sexual abuse she has suffered. She decides to go back to her old hometown and
realize her dream and open a bed and breakfast and who should show up to do the restoration
of the Riverland than her old crush Graham Layton. He puts all aside to try and keep her safe along
with her German Shepherd Daisy that is trained in protection for Phoebe. Can they both keep Phoebe
safe? I am going back to read the first book in the series but it can definitely be read as a standalone.

A really lovely story of two people who had been betrayed in their marriages coming together for a second chance. It shows the courage and trust needed between two people to make a relationship work. From a kiss at 14 to entering the lifestyle, Phoebe has suffered more than than most of us can imagine and yet she is able to trust Graham enough to let herself fall in love with him. Graham for his part had been deceived by his wife and yet he fell in love with Phoebe as soon as he saw her again even though he hadn’t wanted a relationship. He was patient and kind and Daisy trusted him and soon so did Phoebe. A real twist at the end takes the reader by surprise but a beautiful happy ending.

Second change in love and life

Graham and Phoebe shared an unexpected kiss during high school but the age difference then meant they each went their separate ways. Now Phoebe is back and Graham walks back into her life as her contractor. Both have scars (emotionally and for Phoebe, physically) from previous relationships. I would add a trigger warning for Phoebe's past trauma. Their relationship journey is paced perfectly for the emotional growth that leads to physical intimacy. I appreciated Graham's patience and understanding, while Phoebe showed courage in taking next steps. The story did not feel forced or paced incorrectly for the past trauma. I loved the HEA.
