When the Zakro Corporation attempts to build a mammoth supermarket outside Cherringham, the whole village is up in arms. But the accidental death of lead environmentalist Sam Lewis seems to hand victory to the developers. Could Sam's opposition to the project be the real reason he died? When Jack and Sarah take on the case, they will learn that what looked like an accident was - in fact - one very wild murder.
-- Cherringham is a serial novel à la Charles Dickens, with a new mystery thriller released each month. Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing duo: English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby. Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick read for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa.
-- For fans of Agatha Christie's Miss Marple series, Lilian Jackson Braun's The Cat Who series, Caroline Graham's Midsomer Murders, and the American TV series Murder She Wrote, starring Angela Lansbury.
-- Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid 90's, creating content and working on projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, and Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and - most recently - the successful crime fiction series Cherringham. Now into its second season of 12 novellas, Cherringham is popular around the world and has been adapted as a series of audiobooks in Germany.
It’s in the little details, and with that, Jack and Sarah solve the case of Sam Lewis, a farmer who just wanted a corporation to go away therefore allowing him to enjoy his simple life with his wild boars. Others may not agree with me, but as the series goes on, the mystery part is getting more obscured. The reader may think a certain person knows more than they are telling, but another part will throw you off the trail -- not quite a red herring, but more along the lines of a distraction.
Then we get to the end, Sarah lets a feeling slip, and Jack falls back into a memory. The way these two dance around each other is delightful. I only wonder how long it will take for the idea to hit them at the same time.
That was really sad murder, which happened, again, just because of a greed for money. Damn greed in human's hearts. I liked this part and will continue on!
A huge multinational corporation wants to build a new super-sized grocery store in Cherringham which most of the village is against. Things come to a head when the village council grants permission for the project and a near riot breaks out pro and anti grocery groups. The next morning the vocal leader of the anti-grocery group is found, killed by the huge male boar on his own farm. Jack and Sarah are asked to investigate... they're both convinced that they are not just investigating the dead of a farm owner but also looking into the council's vote that doesn't reflect the majority of the Cherringham community's wishes. Is something crooked in Cherringham?
Murder Most Wild: Cherringham 21 Chronological order recommended but not necessary
In A Nutshell:A new hypermarket is set to be built in Cherringham despite public protest. The Council vote stays when Sam Lewis rallies the locals. But when Sam accidentally dies, the project looks set to go ahead. So was Sam's death an accident?
The Protagonist(s):Jack is a hard-boiled widowed former New York City Detective retired to Cherringham. Sarah is a British mother of two, divorcee who fled home to Cherringham. Sarah is a techie in graphic design. The professional and amateur join forces in the sleepy Oxford countryside. It's an unusual but addictive pairing.
Another rewarding read in the Cherringham series.
The Cherringham series are comfortable, easy reads. The plots are interesting. The characters intriguing and the world building so complete one wants to visit.
Recommended for all those who enjoy well written cosy mysteries that are light on the cheese.

My rating system (* = star) 0* Could not finish this book (waste of time) 1*Finished the book but didn't like it not fulfilled 2* Finished the book it was okay. 3* A good read worth your time. 4* An excellent read often with a novel concept or unusual plot. 5* A magnificent read. A prominent example of the genre.
This episode involves a grisly death after a contentious town meeting with a suspiciously attained outcome. Sarah and Jack are asked by their friend, the town lawyer, to "look into things". Things get more than a little threatening as they investigate! Love this idea of a series given in short bursts that are just the right size as well as so much more flexible than a whole novel! The ongoing sleuthing involves a retired and widowed older NYPD homicide cop who is finding life in the English countryside a fair antidote to his mourning, and a local recently divorced woman with a web design business who has returned to her hometown with her children. They make a good sleuthing pair and they usually do it all gratis, but if pressed, they donate any payment to a local charity. Voice actor Neil Dudgeon has been an excellent asset to my listening pleasure, making sure that I know who's talking while I do mindless things.
I've read several of the later books before I found these, and I wanted the backup info. These are shorter and fill the stories in quite well. I like well defined characters. Thank you.
Jack and Sarah are called out once again to help with a suspicious death. Is it an accident or is it murder? Did someone hate this farmer enough to kill him. Read and discover another the real reason for the death.
A big supermarket wants the land that used to be an ancient village. The town is split—those who want it for jobs and benefits and those who don’t want the big superstore in their village.
A good book to listen too when you clean the house. It gives you ”Midsomer murders” wibes. It is fun to try to figure out how the guilty person is. Jack is a retired cop from US, Sarah is a singel mom and they solves crime together. This one was about a murder/accident.
I just love this series and I'm so happy to see that Mr. Costello continues to write more. As long as they have Neil Dudgeon narrating I will continue to listen to them.
