*Matt donates money from each book sold to find a cure for Rett Syndrome, a neurological condition his youngest daughter has*
Like the legendary R M Williams, Matt was born in Jamestown in rural South Australia. But that’s where the remarkable similarities between these two end. While Reginald went from bushman to world renowned millionaire outback clothing designer, Matt is a complete dag who was lured by the city lights of Adelaide. Kindergarten in the big smoke was a culture shock, but it is here he first discovered his love of storytelling.
In high school that love found an outlet in a series of completely unflattering cartoons about fellow students and teachers alike. He survived long enough to further his art into a successful career in multimedia design but, like a zombified leech, the lure of the written word gnawed at him, forcing him to pen his first novel, the award-winning sci-fi comedy epic, Kings of the World. It was followed the next year by Amazon Australia dystopian sci-fi best-seller Apocalypse: Diary of a Survivor.
Matt donates part-proceeds of each book sold to find a cure for Rett Syndrome, a neurological condition the youngest of his three children, Abby, has. As a gorgeous Rett angel, Abby cannot walk, talk or use her hands in a meaningful way. So, not only is each of your book purchases a ticket to fantastically rounded, character driven, hilarious and poignant sci-fi awesomeness, it wraps you in a warm feeling that you’ve made a difference to people who deserve your help the most. Like the zombified leech it’s a no-brainer.
What a satisfying and thrilling ending to the Apocalypse: Diary of a Survivor series!
After the events that took place in Book 3, things for Ash and the remaining crew looked bleak, but with their resilience and teamwork ways, they build a new world for themselves instead of giving up and admitting defeat.
They sure are a savvy and resourceful bunch, each bringing skills that are very much needed in an end of the world event, I would sure like these guys in my side if it was ever to occur.
Just when things are looking hopeful though, Mother Nature threatens their plans and war seems to be imminent with the Norwood crew. The battle is action packed and Jack and the crew are fighting for those they’ve lost and their future, along with that of the Goodwood crew too.
I am sad to say goodbye, but that ending left me feeling happy and proud of these guys, it ended with a lot of hope and heart and I even had a little tear in my eye as I closed the book.
Just finished this 4th and final book in the series, and I was not disappointed! The whole series was excellent! Well written, with characters you could love and hate. The ending was so satisfying, but not without sadness.
Matt Pike thought of just about everything when it came to the challenges faced by Jack and the other survivors... I would start to think of issues that could possibly come up in a post-rock world, and Matt would have it covered.
Once you start reading, it's hard to stop, so prepare to ignore the real world while you get lost in post-rock Adelaide!
Love, love, love this book and this series. Though I'm sad the series is at an end, this was a great ending. Completely satisfying, with room to imagine what cool things could happen next. I don't want to give anything away, but everything ties together nicely with the rest of the series. I'll probably go back and re-read books 1-3--that's how much I like Matt Pike's writing :).
I'm so sad that my journey with this series is over! But I know this is a story I will come back to again and again over the years! It will also be the answer to the question, "What did you do during lockdown?" "I read Apocalypse: Diary of a Survivor!"
What an ending, it could have gone in so many ways and when I was reading book 1 I couldn't have imagined that this is where we'd end up! We lost so many people along the way, and I say 'we' because the way these books are written, it makes you feel like you're there. It's like I was battling with Jack to prepare pre-rock and then fighting to stay alive with him each day post-rock. But was it all worth it? Did we survive? You'll have to read to find out!
Each book was just as amazing as the last. The diary format makes it easy to read, and allows for a unique display of emotion and experiences. It really felt like I was in Jacks head, and I felt each positive and negative experience as if I there with him. I love this series and my well worn covers really show it.
What a finale. Just amazing to see the story conclude. I won’t spoil of course. I have borrowed the series from a friend, but, if and when I see Matt’s books on the shelf I won’t hesitate to get them, especially the recent spin off, always good to be able to support a local Australian author. Can’t wait for more of your work!
The Apocalypse: Diary of a Survivor series has been a great read from the very beginning, and I was really pleased to find that the final book in the series is no different! I enjoyed every moment of this book, and the series as a whole. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone, and it's always nice to see some genuine Australian fiction out there.
I enjoy a man who cares. Not just looking to get ahead. He is willing to fight but would rather not. This is an unusual find in post apocalyptic stories.
