First off, this isn't a post-apocalyptic read. The plot is about characters surviving an apocalypse in the making, but it's only in america. The plot was incredibly weak with similar writing, backstory, and interest. A mysterious agency plans to take over America by killing off everyone and starting their own world. Twist, they don't kill anyone, they infect them with a virus that makes them go feral. Then they send in agents to kill survivors... and that's where the plot holes begin 1) just develop a virus that kills 2) why are you sending agents into infected territory, they're all going to die 3) seeing as this is only applicable to the states, you're literally inviting any nation to just walk in and set up shop... 4) not to mention the characters are all pretty useless and morally sound, zero creativity

My Analysis
I listened to and read the entire series in one chunk. The link above goes to the audio version where you get everything in one set.
Okay, to break it down, this is nothing new here. Instead of a T-virus (and we all know where that comes from), or just waking up and the world is full of the walking dead (hey, that would be a good name for a television series), you have a group of baddies putting a virus into food and water and turning a bunch of people into what amounts to cannibal zombies.
Then you have the obligatory survivors having adventures on their own or meeting with others all trying to get somewhere (home or to an ultimate safe spot) fighting not only the creatures along the way but the worse monsters in other survivors (bad guys and bad guy employees of the company who started the entire mess) who run around killing and raping and destroying because there’s no accountability. And just when you think one of there heroes or heroines are about die, never fear. One or more of the zombies come to the “rescue” killing the baddies while the white hats escape.
So, you have Noah, Dan, Sam, Quinn, Meredith, Delta, Caddy, Sandy, and a few others seen throughout the series.
Nothing new here, standard fare. Not saying it wasn’t enjoyable, just don’t expect surprises.
The main issue I have with this is the passive language throughout. “He could see/feel/hear…” and “He was/They were ___(insert ‘ing’ word here). What this does is distance the reader from the story. I want to be right in close to a character. “Dan could see the creatures. They were shambling up the street.” This lets the narrator tell the reader the story instead of showing it.
This is the only problem. Otherwise you have a quick read for each book with some basic descriptions of setting. Not too much, just enough to get a decent mental picture of the scene.
Dan Lowry was a police officer for the past five years in St. Matthews, a small town in Arizona. Senior Officer Howard Barrett arrived at the station for the night shift. Frank was the only prisoner for a drunk and disorderly charge at the Down Under, a local bar. Dan went home for supper with his wife Julie and daughter Quinn. Before he got home, Howard called him back to the station. Something terrible had happened and Frank was dead. Sam and Delta were tooling down a Utah highway on his motorcycle looking for survivors. They found the Two Rocks Trading Post. Government Agent Cromwell was deciding which city to visit first; Denver or Baton Rouge. Agent Hopper monitored security screens, wondering if Salt Lake City had been infected yet. Meredith Tilly and John Parish were late-blooming lovers and all was going well until John’s wife appeared in his store. With John’s store under attack, all was forgiven and Meredith went to save him. As the saga continues, it switches from person or group to follow their situation to survive. It is presumed that the infected would only survive for a few weeks before they would succumb to the virus. The origin of the virus is believed to be a government plot to destroy humanity because we've been bad in a left-wing liberal sort of way. Much confusion, a lack of direction, and stupid people that never learn. It’s a slow process and I see why it has been provided as a box set.
OK, so each book individually I think I marked as 4 stars - but the series as a whole I'm going to do 3.5. Because it was book 4 I think when we decided the "creatures" were zombies and started eating people. Up to that point, they were just crazy and tearing people apart which was bad enough. And this is apocalyptic not post-apocalyptic, and really it's not that either because they ultimately stop the spread and only the South West is in an apocalypse really...
All of that being said - I liked the characters enough to care what was happening to them, I liked that they all were able to come together, separate, and then we see them come together again. So an HEA of sorts. I liked this series. I think I've read 0-3 previously and was angry that the rest weren't out, so I'm happy that I got the rest of the story now.

GREAT ACT STORY OF SURVIVAL, CHAOS, AND HUMANITY RUN AMOK.
The story is well written, definitely develops the main character early on and keeps on going until you know the character as if they were your friends. PIPERBROOK loves his craft and it shows! I enjoy reading his works because I’m ensured of a damn good read with action, suspense, and realism. His work is always well edited and all are real ‘page turners’. How many times I have read his work well into the wee hours simply because missed sleep was well worth the sacrifice of missed sleep and worth the risk of being late for work!!! Keep writing PIPERBROOK, KEEP WRITING, PLEASE !!!!!
This series is different than the typical zombie or apocalypse book. It’s more believable. Something that could happen…maybe not to that extreme but maybe even worse. Being different is what makes it good! Just give this book series a try…I bet you’ll find it very interesting! Only 4 stars because it’s missing something but I’m not sure what. Maybe I’m just used to the more action packed full on zom-poc books. Don’t get me wrong, this is an awesome book series and I’m glad I read it…there’s just something “missing”. If I figure it out, I’ll come back and change my review.
This is a grizzly romp through the aftermath of a manmade contamination of water and food supplies. Taken at face value, the story line is good, I love that there are follow ups on all the main characters. I think what is lacking is the hows. How did the baddies get the contaminant into the water and the food? How did one guy mastermind this with no one having a clue? What was the contaminant in the first place and how did it get manufactured? I read in the afterward there were or are some stand alones. Hope one is a preface to the whole saga. Well written and thought out (although I think the aunt's rifle was magic and had an extra bullet).
I loved, loved, LOVED these books!!! It's going to be hard finding others as good as this one though. Most other hooks are really rubbish, but these had me gripping my seat and wanting to read more... parts were a bit predictable but nothing that destroyed reading the books . I'd definitely recommend these to everyone else. Now to waffle rubbish so I've written enough words to get the submit button yo highlight do I can press it to submit , but its taking a while , how annoying
I suggest reading this series box sett. I am currently reading the last book (as of now) Dead Instinct.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series. I found myself invested emotionally — yelling at stupid but well intentioned mistakes by the characters; disgust at the AH agency teams; glee at some of the characters happy endings; and sadness for those who turned or whose stories were cut short by bad guys or bad luck. So many emotions!
I liked the stories. I appreciate you following everyone . .l' m reading these as the Coronavirus Pandemic sweeps the world. I really hope there aren't that many truly evil people out there. If there are, please take me in the first wave. We all love the heroes who seem to miraculously survive certain death. Real life isn't t.like that . I would like to be Dan or Simon. Dave my family and friends and find safety for all.
Came across this box set and couldn't put it down. They are the first books I have read in this genre and I loved them all. I really enjoyed how it let you follow each characters journey and how they intertwined with each other and the plot. So happy to see that Piperbrook has written much more and I look forward to catching up on those.
The story in and of itself ran a bit slow at times but the premise and the direction were great. I would like a little more on Carter and his hideout and if he ever returns to civilization. Just as one of the future stand alone novels that were mentioned.
Not generally a fan of zombie stories, but theses zombies are just people infected with a virus, but one that doesn't turn them into the undead, but just mindless ravenous cannibals who die after the virus runs its course. The Agents were a tiny bit implausible especially Cromwell.
I loved how the author showed the workings of the human mind, for greed was the cause of so much. There’s also kindness, love and respect, all graphically portrayed as well. I could almost smell the terrible scent of death. It was so hard to put down this story. Even sleep got delayed!
I recommend this book series to anyone who loves zombies and/or apocalypse stories. The storyline is fast-paced, with many anxiety inducing scenarios that make these books real page-turners. The characters are engaging with readers cheering for their survival from start to finish.
I read a lot of apocalyptic books and novels. This was one of the best I've ever read. I highly recommend it, it's a real page-turner. I read the entire series. It was interesting from the very beginning to the very end.
As a lover of post apocalypse books, these definitely didn't disappoint, couldnt put them down. Well written, fantastic books that had you rooting for the characters to survive.
This series of 7 books was an amazing price and well worth it. Apocalyptic genre, well written, good characters, the usual ‘good, bad and ugly’ behaviour to which situations like this are likely to lead. Def get it.
This book was filled with adventure, zombies, bad guys and gore! An intoxicating blend for me personally! Hours upon hours of epic storytime you won't want to put down even to sleep! Enjoy! I sure did!
Very exciting, plenty of action and often made me cry. Wonderful characters, for the most part. A very enjoyable read. Just a few discrepancies on occasion, but very good otherwise.
At first I wasn't sure i was going to like the set. But I kept reading and the more I read, the better it got. So when you begin reading, don't give up on the series. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
A very good book. I am so interested in these types of books. And with what is going on around us in 2021, this could easily be a true story. TW Piperbrook never disappoints me.
Good characters, very good read.I’ve never been to this place but feel like I have.Running, slashing, shooting the infected wore me out.I struggled with them all and suffered as they suffered.
This was a spell binding book that just kept you reading. I enjoyed all the characters. & appreciate the authors forsite in closing all the different family stories
Read about one man deranged plan put into motion by his army to destroy the USA . Poisoning thee food change and water supply people turn into monsters. The immune are being hunted by the army and the monsters. Read their harrowing tale.
I liked the whole books. It was totally feasible. The characters were exact with reactions during the whole debacle. It seemed totally In line with what would happen in a terrorist attack .
This was just as good as the first time I read it. From beginning to end, the story was well told, the characters believe able with good guys and bad guys and of course the monsters. If you're into apocalyptic books then this will keep you reading to the end.
This book was exhausting. I mean that in a good way. I couldn't put it down. The characters were compelling. The storyline was, unfortunately, all too possible. I highly recommend this book, and author.
What a whirlwind of a series. It was a truly fun read. I could t wait to see what the next chapter would be each time. Emotional and also inspiring. Look forward to more from the author.
First book or books in the series were enough to get me invested. Too many Zombies and fighting zombies as filler in the story to make it really good. Feels kind of like copy of the Walking Dead, but perhaps it's vice versa.
