Toxic Apple Turnovers

A baker who sees the dead. One too many suitors.
And a killer. Living in Honey Hollow can be murder.
*A laugh out loud standalone cozy mystery by New York Times Bestseller Addison Moore* All books in the series can be read individually but are best enjoyed in order.

My name is Lottie Lemon, and I see dead people. Okay, so I rarely see dead people, mostly I see furry creatures of the dearly departed variety, aka dead pets, who have come back from the other side to warn me of their previous owner’s impending doom.

Fall is in the air, the weather is crisp, the leaves are golden and the atmosphere is ripe for murder. It’s the first catering event of the season and I’m blindsided by what transpires at the outlandish party. Not only that, but I stumble upon the one person I would never want to see facedown in a flower bed. And to top it all off, something wicked has rolled into Honey Hollow and every dead spirit I have ever encountered is back to help me fight it.

Lottie Lemon has a brand new bakery to tend to, a budding romance with perhaps one too many suitors, and she has the supernatural ability to see dead pets—which are always harbingers for ominous things to come. Throw in the occasional ghost of the human variety, a string of murders, and her insatiable thirst for justice, and you’ll have more chaos than you know what to do with.

Living in the small town of Honey Hollow can be murder.

Before, things didn't make sense. Now that I've read all the previous books? It makes sense, lol. She still needs to make a decision though...
________________________________________
Is it weird that I kind of want to make some apple turnovers now?

If it isn't, cool—I'll make some. If it is, I'll make sure no one dies? Maybe?

Even though Toxic Apple Turnovers is the 13th installment in the Murder in the Mix Series, I wasn't completely confused with what was going on. There's Lottie Lemon, who can see dead pets. Plain and simple. As for everything else that was thrown my way? I just kind of sat back and watched it all be unleashed.

The reason why is because I never read books 1–12. Oops? Oh well. When a challenge throws a book my way, for a certain reason, I don't question it. Ever. I just see if I can get it for free and then dive into it. Plus, it was nice to dive into another cozy mystery book. I had no idea there were so many not on my radar, and now I'm thinking I need to make better cozy mystery decisions in my life.

In the end, this was a pretty fun book and meeting all the characters. I do think Lottie needs to make a certain decision, but maybe that will happen in the next book or something. I guess I better suck it up and dive into all the previous books before this.

Toxic Apple Turnovers by Addison Moore is the 13th book in the Murder in the Mix series. This series is about Lottie Lemon. A baker with the abillity to see dead pets and when she sees them awful things are about to happen. I really like this series! As always Addison Moore's writing is amazing.

Lottie, Everett and Noah are up to their ears in it again. I really enjoyed this book, as I did all the previous ones. There is so much going on that Lottie winds up with lots of “help”. The ending is spectacular. I can’t wait to read the next book!

I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited.

Okay, so I've made it to book #14 in this series, and I feel like I need to post a review for all the books I've read up to this point. These books rea all set pretty close together, so it's almost like you're reading one big, long story or watching a TV drama or soap opera. There are some really fun, interesting things in these books, and some other things that are problematic.

Things that I like:

The setting - Honey Hollow is one of those adorable little towns that exist almost exclusively in rom-com books or cozy TV shows. Think Stars Hollow, but in Vermont. It's the kind of town that has absolutely no major corporations in the downtown area. No McDonald's, no Walmart's, nothing. Everything is family owned. Every business decorates for whatever event/holiday/season is coming up or going on and everyone in town is always at every event. I'm here for that. If I could find this kind of town in RL, I would be in heaven. I'm sure that some place, somewhere, is like this, and I haven't found it yet, so that's why I'm saying it's almost exclusively in books or shows. But I do really love this little town.

Most of the side characters - I love Keelie and Meg the most of the side characters, but Lainey, Brittany, and even Cormack are fun and have enough quirks to keep them interesting. I'm not saying they are perfect, but they are a lot of fun and I want a friend group just like them.

The premise - I'm not going to do spoilers for any of the books, but this isn't really a spoiler, since it is literally the first paragraph in every book. Lottie's power is really cool and something different from the normal cozy mystery realm. She sees ghosts of pets and people who are there to help her solve a murder of someone they are close to. Love this idea. It's really what sets this series apart from the other cozy mystery type stories. The fact that her powers do grow and shift, and her reaction to them, is something that seems like normal reactions.

Everett - I really like Everett. He's understanding, has his own demons, is a calming force on Lottie, and really cares about her. He tells her things that he's hidden from others in the past, which just shows how much he cares for her. And he's willing to give her time to figure things out on her own. He also supports her in everything, but mostly in her investigations. He knows she's going to do whatever it is she's going to do, so he tags along to make sure she's as safe as she can be in the situation. He doesn't try to fit her in a box of his own expectations, but lets her be her own person, which is very refreshing.

Things I'm on the fence about:

Lottie - Yes, the FMC herself. First of all, I do like Lottie. She has a lot of good points, and she genuinely cares about people and is fiercely loyal to her friends and family. She is stubborn and keeps going, no matter what obstacles are in her way. I like that part of her. However, the other part of her is a complete mess. The woman cannot make up her mind about her love life and frankly, it's pretty darn annoying. I get that it's easy to be attracted to two different men at once, but if she actually sat down and looked at how each of them treats her, she would be able to make her choice. That part of her makes her seem kind of airheaded and jealous all the time. I really don't like that treatment of her, even though those are normal emotions and behaviors, and she is relatable. But given how focused she is in her business and the other parts of her life, it's almost like the author is afraid to make a choice for Lottie and make someone mad. Which just leaves everything in a long, drawn-out romantic triangle that no one really asked for.

Things I really don't like -

Both of Lottie's mothers - Look, the backstory of Lottie's birth mom having been a teenage who got pregnant and left her to be adopted by her "parents" is good. Love the back story and the support Lottie gets from her adoptive family is great. But both of her moms act like they are mean girls in high school and the only thing they have to do is fight each other over who has which guy as a boyfriend now. After hearing about how much Miranda loved her deceased husband and spent 10 years not dating, to have her having a revolving door of dates now seems a bit of an overkill. I do think that people can and should have meaningful relationships after their SO's pass on, but her relationships seem so superficial and juvenile. Carlotta, on the other hand, has every reason to distrust men (that we know of. We don't get a whole lot of background on where she was and what happened for the 29 years she was gone), but she just jumps back into competing with Miranda for every man in her life. It's very 1980's soap opera-ish. And really, it's somewhat distracting to the main stories.

The constant repetition - There are certain words/phrases/paragraphs that seem as if they are just lifted from one book and dropped right into the next. Do we really need the first paragraph (which is also the blurb for every single book) about Lottie and her ability to see the dead? Couldn't the author think of a different way to work it in somewhere in the first chapter or so? Why don't we get any background as to why Lottie's powers are suddenly escalating? But nope, just the same "I'm Lottie Lemon and I see dead pets." every single story. Also, why does everyone refer to Lottie almost exclusively as Lottie Lemon? It's not like Lainey comes in and someone always says, "Lainey Lemon!" I'm sure there are multiple ways to keep putting her last name in there, if that's what the author is really wanting to do. And the shoulder shimmy and hip bump. It's like those phrases are used 40-50 times per book. The books are not that long at all. There is no reason for someone's shoulders to do a shimmy every other chapter or so.

Noah - I know this will probably cause some hurt feelings, but Noah is not a likeable character. He is controlling and stalkerish. His and Lottie's meet cute was cute. I enjoyed that. But then, Noah got problematic. I enjoyed the beginning of his relationship with Lottie. He was her pick, and Everett was there in the background, but I was fine with Noah. UNTIL Brittany showed up. Do you mean to tell me in SIX MONTHS Noah couldn't find one second to have a serious conversation with the woman he said he was falling in love with to tell her that his divorce was not finalized yet? Oh, his bad. He "forgot" to tell her. Just like he "forgot" to tell her that he put a tracker on her car. Is that even legal? Oh, and cameras pointing at her front door? Really? Hello, stalker. And when Lottie, who did not want to be the other woman, tells him that yes, she has feelings for him, but she is done with him because of his wife, he refuses to accept that. Instead of figuring out his relationship with Brittany (and Cormack -but that's next), he continuously busts in on Lottie and Everett. That really bothered me. Lottie set boundaries and eventually, when things had settled down, she and Noah could have been really good friends, but he refuses to accept the boundaries. He constantly interrupts Lottie and Everett, breaking in whenever they are alone and making snide comments about Everett. You know who doesn't do that later? Everett. When he tells Lottie to figure out who she wants to be with, he even says no to getting physical with Lottie so she can decide for herself between Noah and Everett. But Noah? Nope, Lottie is his toy and he can't stand other people touching his toys. And then, he "accidentally" gets engaged to Cormack and "can't find a way" to tell her that they are actually not engaged. He takes her on dates. Takes her to dinner. Takes her to relationship counseling. Let's Cormack throw them an engagement party. And through all of this, he keeps telling Lottie that "he just can't figure out how to get Cormack to understand." Idk, dude. Maybe stop taking her on dates? Slap her with a restraining order? You're a detective. Figure it out. OH, and that brings me the worst part of Noah (if you can believe that). He doesn't want a relationship with Lottie. He wants to own her and to put her in a box or on a shelf. The whole first part of their relationship is him telling Lottie to stay out of everything and be a good girl and get back in the kitchen. Look, I get she's a baker and he's trying to keep her safe. But there is ALWAYS a point in the books that he realizes she's far ahead of him in the investigation and all of a sudden, it's fine for her to be involved. As long as she follows his rules and does exactly what he says.

So, I read through the first 13 pretty quickly and have started 14. But I think I'm going to take a break, because the things I am annoyed with are slowly starting to outweigh the things that I like about this book series. Hopefully, when I go back and pick it up again, I'll be able to enjoy the stories once again.

*I read an ARC and this is my honest opinion*

This novel is part of Addison Moore’s Murder in the Mix series and I have to say that this the first one I have read. It’s a standalone so, you do not have to read the others in the series. Toxic Apple Turnovers is a wacky romantic suspenseful story about Lottie and her unusual power of seeing spirits of someone’s dead pet. She can sometimes see human spirits but most of the time it is an animal. Lottie also has the dysfunctional relationship with her family and she needs to choose between two men. The men in her life are total opposites of one another and are also step brothers. Then there are siblings and friends of their small town that I find to be the hit of the story. From what I have read Lottie always finds a dead body and this time it’s no different because she gets a warning right before it happens. She doesn’t know who the person is until she finds them and from then on throughout the book she tries to find the killer. Lottie is known in the town as having the best apple turnovers and helping solve murders but there is something else lurking in the background. Lottie, Noah and Everette must navigate their relationship while trying to figure out who the killer is and who is robbing the good folks of their small town.
Toxic Apple Turnovers was a good story with some funny moments mixed in the batter. I have to say though that there were a few times it got hard to follow the dialogue and I didn’t like the fact that there was so much drama. I am all about a story having drama but when there tends to be scenes where the emotional aspect is overdone I start losing interest. I love the supporting characters but not so much Lottie. She couldn’t make up her mind and her feelings changed everyday like from one extreme to the next. I was screaming like please choose someone and choose the right one. I usually know which male character to root for and in this one I couldn’t root for either one of them because she didn’t deserve neither of them. It was a quick read to me and I found that it did drag out somewhat. The being said the story is a romantic comedy/romantic suspense rolled into a good book with good characters. If you like the quirkiness, suspense and romance then this is the story for you. Happy Reading!!!!

I have no idea how Addison Moore manages to keep going with this series, the more I read of it the more I want from her. Seriously, this series in amazing and I am loving how it’s developing, you never know which way Addison is going to take Lottie, Noah and Essex and I love that about Addison. The writing was incredible and the plot just kept throwing me off which I loved and I’m excited to see how far Addison will take this series and the characters within. Each adventure that Lottie has is always as exciting as the last one and you can’t help but love her. I am excited to see what happens with the next book because yet again Addison knows how to write amazing endings. Seriously if you’ve not read any of these books, then you should pick up this series and start reading because it’s incredible.

After having all of the spirts from the last 12 months surround Lottie, Noah and Essex, Lottie has no clue what is coming and how she is planning to stop it. So with trying to make sure she can handle all that is about to approach her, she is busy focusing on an event that she’s catering for. Little does she realise that another murder is about to take place and that things are about to start going crazy for all the people who live in Honey Hollow. Lottie’s love life is also complicated and she has no idea what to do about Noah and Essex, she loves them both dearly but her heart can’t decide on who she is meant to be with and with Cormack still in the way when it comes to Noah her life doesn’t seem to be getting any easier. Will Lottie be able to figure out who struck in Honey Hollow and be able to keep the danger that’s about to embark on Honey Hollow away?

I’m enjoying this series so I have purchased up to #35 I will most likely continue until the last one. I said if the love angle didn’t resolve I wouldn’t keep reading the series. Unfortunately I enjoy other aspects of this series which I can’t ignore. Lottie’s unresolved love issues still have me frustrated but I choose to move on. I hope she does too. I also get annoyed that she misses obvious clues and signs that for a person touting herself as the best crime fighter seems unrealistic she shouldn’t be so naive. Then there’s two other factors I find a bit unbelievable. She never realizes the first time she sees a ghost or Spector for who they are! The description she gives is of sparkling lights translucent in nature yet she doesn’t see that from the beginning? Then there’s the idiocy of following the said Spector to the ultimate find of a dead body!! She should be smart enough now to know what’s about to happen expect it and make adjustments. Let someone else find the body. Noah perhaps? He knows her secret he’s a detective so it makes sense. Instead of her blindly and idiotically following on her own and oh there’s a body, scream like a moron draw attention yet again to yourself!! Please!!! Instead send a professional or let anyone else find the body but be observant enough to note clues left behind. Noah might not tell her everything at first but Everett seems to find out everything due to his status and he relays everything to Lottie. Which to me makes him the better choice for her among other reasons. I first rooted for Noah but now I believe Everett is best but will Lottie or ultimately the author??

What a ride!

Toxic Apple Turnovers is the 13th book in the Murder in the Mix series from Addison Moore who never fails to deliver crazy antics, a romantic roller coaster ride and a suspenseful mystery. Poor Lottie Lemon once again stumbles across a body in Honey Hollow and must race against time to figure out whodunnit. With the help of all of her spectral associates from her previous sleuthing endeavours and some of her real-life best friends, Lottie dodges mischief as usual while on the hunt for a murderer. Previously warned that something especially wicked this way comes, Lottie has more than one deadly mystery on her hands that she must solve while somehow juggling two sexy suitors tempting her with their naughty invitations and putting her heart in almost as much danger as her life will be if she doesn't find the killer hiding amongst the citizens of Honey Hollow. Now that Noah's divorce is final and Everett has given Lottie permission to find the closure she and Noah were previously denied, Lottie must attempt to put her feelings for Noah under the microscope to discover if their hot and heavy spark is in the past, present or future. You won't want to miss this newest installment in this fantastically sarcastic and fun-filled series from the delightfully talented Addison Moore. Put it on your TBR and pick it up ASAP.

Toxic Apple Turnovers is book 13 in the Murder in the Mix series, and this series is just so much fun! Each book is a stand-alone romantic mystery, but I highly recommend you read the whole series because the are fun books. Toxic Apple Turnovers is the latest adventure of Lottie Lemon and her bakery, not to mention her love triangle with Noah and Everett. Lottie sees dead pets, but occasionally dead people, too, and it puts her on the detective path.

Addison Moore's books are well-written, light reading, and a quick, humorous, enjoyable ride. If you want to read this, but you want to catch up on the entire series first, you can easily do so within 2 weeks. If you have read Addison Moore's Murder in the Mix series previously, you will enjoy this story just as much as her previous books. If you are new to this series, and are a fan of fun, entertaining, quirky reads, this one is for you. It takes the fun of the series and adds just a touch of mafia intrigue! Definitely recommend.

This book was an amazing addition to the series. Another murder hits Honey Hollow and at the same time, a string of dangerous robberies. Lottie is determined to solve both. And as the reader, I'm always trying to solve the murder too. There are quite a few suspects to weed through. Along the way, Lottie's love life is still an issue, with Noah and Everett vying for her heart. Although this is a stand alone book, I really recommend that you read every single book in the series. You will not be disappointed. Addison Moore does an excellent job in characterization, plot, and romance. As a final note, I was surprised at the ending of this book and can't wait till the next one to see what happens next.

Every book in this series has been amazing, but I think this one takes the cake..Or should I say turnover..LOL So much action and suspense all packed into one book and it is from start to finish. If only these book would come out faster so I could keep reading all about this awesome Honey Hollow family. There is always something happening and Lottie is sure to be in the middle of it all.

Of course, when Lottie is in the middle of the happenings there is sure to be a ghost around to help her out.

The ending of this book is one for the record books. So not what I was expecting and I can not wait till the next book is out to find out what happens next.

Addison Moore continues to bring stories with realistic, but still a bit out there, characters to life. Within the pages of her Murder in the Mix books you get fun, frisky, crazy characters and a bit of hometown adventure with a dash of suspense for good measure. I have loved her Murder in the Mix series since Cutie Pies and Deadly Lies. The characters are amazing and the fact that the lead heroine has the ability to see dearly departed pets, and the occasional ghost, is awesome. It puts a little twist on a supernatural classic. The male leads in the story are two opposite sides of a delicious cake and, to me, you can't have one without the other. I just love this series sooooo much and can NOT wait for more. Well done to the author!

Toxic Apple Turnover (Murder in the Mix #13) — Addison Moore (19 chapters) October 22-26, 2021

I read this book as a part of Cozy Halloween that has been sitting on my To-Read list for a year or more and I had a due date of Oct. 31, 2021. At this point in time in the series and I can pretty much write this series’ individual books with my eyes closed. There is not much movement/growth with Lottie; that all happens with the individual who passes. The plots are fun, by the main plot is the same old same old.

Another turnover in a dead body and a ghost animal to help. Great mystery, tiring boy toy issues.

I feel like I am starting to get these books mixed up. As always, great mysteries, but Lottie: pick a dang mate!

Two stars.

While this book is a standalone in a series of standalones, this particular story feels like a giant hug and tribute from this author directly to devoted fans. If you've been reading along with the series then this book gives you a look back at previous characters and spirits, gives you two mysteries to solve, twice the man drama, and all the Lottie love.

If you are new to this series you are in for a treat with this one. It is pure cozy mystery perfection. Lottie, our main lady solves mysteries that happen (weirdly) to all revolve her bakery. She is a fantastic detective and can see spirits that both help and hinder her goals. I love that Lottie is courted by two men (because I could never choose) and the reader gets all the hijinks that that entails.

Lottie is one of those characters that a reader cannot help but love and I really think this story is the perfect example of her strengths, intelligence, humor and wit. What this author did so well with plot of this story was that no matter how much you guessed, you were always. Wither it be who the guilty party was, their motivation, or how they pulled it off; I was never bored and always excited to turn the pages. This is my favorite to date and I am always excited for more! I received an ARC and I am leaving an honest review. 4.5 stars.

Awesome read, well written with a great plot and characters. I was engrossed from start to finish. This book has it all suspense, mystery, humor, spirits of deceased pets, the occasional spirit of humans, murder, justice, romance....love triangle. Honey Hallow has another murder that needs solved. Lottie Lemon of course is up to the task with the help of Noah and Everett and the spirit animals. Also her love life is still up in the air. She also has another mystery to solve....read to find out. I am loving this series and can't wait to read the next book! Lottie finds herself seeing another dead animal from the great beyond, this one an owl. She knows someone is going to die and, of course, finds the body. She is then left to figure out who did it. There is also a rash of robberies and burglaries that have her trying, along with assistance from all of her friends from the great beyond, to find out who is behind those as well. She is still torn between Everett and Noah with no end in sight for that to be resolved. There was a slight twist in Lottie's investigation that comes to light at the end. Am quite interested to see what happens next.

The adventures of Lottie Lemon get better with each book! Lottie has so much more than her love life on her plate when murder and a string of burglaries hit her tiny town. In true Lottie fashion she sets out to not only bring down a killer but to also catch the thief’s responsible for the chaos. Addison knows how to write to pull you in and leave you wanting more. Each Murder in the Mix book is a stand alone, but they are so good I can’t suggest enough times you should start at one. Just to get the full effect of their awesomeness!

From cops and robbers, romance, murder, and wedding planning galore! This latest read from Addison Moore will give you a front row seat to Lottie Lemon's crazy life. She runs the town's best bakery, shares the affection of two men, and finds herself discovering another body. With the help from her friends and family, and a team of ghostly helpers, Lottie will do whatever it takes to solve these mysteries. This book starts out with a lot of action and ends the same way. It definitely leaves you wanting more!

This has been a wonderful addition to the murder in the mix series! Lottie has found another body and has set out to find the killer. There has also been several break ins around Honey Hallow and Lottie is gearing up to solve those crimes too. She has a lot of much needed help this time. All of her dearly twice departed gohst friends are ready and willing to help her before going back to paradise one more time. I loved getting to revisit all the past characters and just wait for the ending! Lottie's love life has taken a HUGE step and she didn't even know it!

I can't believe this is the 13th book in the series! Which means, Lottie, the MC, has been helping solve murder mysteries for 13 months in Honey Hollow. She may be a certified baker, but she moonlights as a detective with the help of her disembodied friends, her two suitors, and a few of her friends and family.

Though this book is a little more special than the others. All of her ghost friends make an appearance in this one! Plus, there are two mysteries to be solved! You're going to have a blast and a hard time putting this one down! And that cliffhanger? Ahh! Need the next one right now!

Honey Hollow has experienced a murder every month for the past year. Lottie Lemon has had the misfortune of discovering each body. Due to her super sensual abilities she has become an amateur sleuth usually aided by the ghost of a pet beloved by the victim. Recently Lottie was warned that more trouble was coming to Honey Hollow. Can this small town handle much more? Will Lottie push things too far in the name of her investigation? Will Lottie, Noah, & Everett untangle their love triangle?

The Murder in the Mix series books can be read as standalones, so this is a nice addition but it can also be a GREAT first book to dive into. Lottie Lemon is your typical small-town Baker, except, well, she’s really not. Lottie is supernaturally gifted and has a knack for solving crimes that even baffle the police. Detective Noah Fox and Judge Everett Baxter are two men that love her, and she loves them. Solving crimes is their passion, but Lottie’s thirst for justice rivals even the good judge and the good detective.

This number thirteen in the series. You do not need to read the other twelve to get know the characters and their background stories. In each book she fills the reader in on who each person is and how they fit into her life. This book does the best job an filling the reader in on who’s who. But read the other twelve you will not be disappointed. Each book is a joy to read.
One murder and lots of suspects and reoccurring characters. A lot of romance (she has two serious boy friends). She talks to the dead who help her solve the murders. They books are a lot of fun.

This series is pure confectionary fun. It's light, it's sweet, and it's guaranteed to keep me entertained for a couple of hours. I give the author credit, because at no point was I able to outthink the plot of this book. Though, I was a little surprised that Lottie missed picking up on some of the clues about the robbers that I thought were kind of obvious earlier in the story. Under ordinary circumstances, a love triangle would drive me completely mental. But for some reason, in this series, I'm kind of enjoying the push-me/pull-you dynamic between Lottie, Noah, and Everett.

Fall is in the air; the leaves are falling, and the atmosphere is ripe for murder. Lollie has another catering event and what happens there has all reeling. Of course, there is another murder,
and to top it all off, something wicked has rolled into Honey Hollow, then all the dead spirits Lottie have ever seen is back to help me fight it. So, what happens next has everyone running to help.
Can't wait to see what happens when Carmack finds out they are married. That is going to be fun. But I think Noah should have gotten rid of her months ago.
Love the author.

Lottie Lemon is back at it again. Baking the best treats in all of Honey Hollow and solving crime on the side. Another murder has taken place in her sweet town and a group of criminals are tearing their way thru the city as well. Can Lottie and her two sexy sidekicks with the help of her ghostly friends save the town and solve another murder? Read to find out. Another delicious book by Addison Moore.

This book was beyond amazing as it gave us a chance to revisit all the beloved characters from previous books. All the people of Honey Hollow, every previous spirit and two crimes to be solved simultaneously with the two men feuding over Lottie’s heart, ensures that this book does not have a dull moment! And the icing on the cake is the curveball at the end no one will see coming, leaving you wanting more! 5 stars is not enough for this book....more like a million!

Lottie always seems to find herself at the right place at the wrong time. Addison has done such a great job of writing such wonderful characters and I just love reading each story. This one did not disappoint! Lottie has a host of characters to help her solve the latest murder. All while still trying to sort out her love life. Can’t wait to read the next one! Got to get some more of my Essex fix!
