Well hell, this was so cute!
I loved that this story was set in 2003, back in the good old days when video stores still existed and cell phones were barely used. This gave me major flashbacks to my own youth and it was so refreshing!

Nicole is a bit of a wallflower and a senior at Rosemark High. She works at a video store and likes to go running with her dog during her spare time. She feels like she doesn't really belong anywhere, until one day she encounters Chase, one of last year's most popular seniors. He gives her the idea to try out for the school's track team, of which he is the assistant coach. And what starts out as something that would look good on her college applications, quickly turns into something more!

I could totally recognize my younger self in Nicole, and maybe that's why I had such a blast reading this! She's very self-conscious, insecure and doesn't have a lot of friends. She has incredible character development throughout this story though!

A little warning though: there is a love triangle here. I know not everyone likes those, and I personally don't either, but it didn't really bother me here because I had a clear favorite the entire time.

I haven't read the previous books in this series, which wasn't really necessary to understand everything, but now I really want to!

Received a free copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

I liked a lot about this book. A lot! I liked how goal oriented the main character, Nicole, was. I liked that she was not a cheerleader or even popular. She was normal and she was ok with that. She had very real goals and struggles. She was trying to do cross-country for the activity for college, not to become popular. I like that she figured out the improper intentions of the not nice guy before getting in a bad position she couldn't get out of. I like how the mom supported her and helped her. It was a very refreshing book because it was realistic and positive. Great job Tirrell!!

I have read all three books in this trilogy and once again it was a walk down memory lane. Things mentioned that I loved during that time. This book was sweet, funny and I was sad that it's over. I love that there are references to the previous books. Kayla Tirrell is becoming one of my favorite authors.

Nicole will be starting her senior year soon and is surprised when she runs in to a cute guy she knew who graduated last year. Even though Chase had a few classes with Nicole, he doesn't recognize her. When they start working together at Blockbuster things gets interesting, haha. He convinces her to start cross country and she goes for this idea. Nicole is a quiet one and while her grades are good, there isn't much on her extra curricular activities. This is a great opportunity. Amy, her best friend, joins too and that makes it complete. Being close to Chase stirs up feelings, but so does Neal, another cross country member. This is all new to her and can get pretty confusing. Amy is a great best friend and there are plenty of funny moments in this book. This book is just like the romantic comedies I used to watch around this time. Kayla Tirrell brought me right down memory lane with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawson's Creek, Blockbuster, Glamour Shots, She's All That and many other references. I wish we would get more of this amazing Mountain Creek Drive.

Thank you Kayla for for sending me an advanced copy of Chasing Love.

I really enjoyed all of the books in this series, but this one was definitely my favorite of the three.

I adore all of the 90s and early 2000s references in this series. They bring back so many memories.

I also loved the main characters in this story. The characters Kayla creates just seem so real and you end up rooting for them throughout the story.

I also love that even though all three books are set in the same universe and some characters carry over into the others, you can definitely read any of them as stand alones.

My only real critique with Chasing Love is that a couple times a chapter would end and at the beginning of the next chapter something had happened in between the two and it really wasn't made clear what had exactly happened. The times that happened, it did cause me to stop reading and go back to make sure I hadn't actually missed something.

Tried the free month trial of kindle. Turns out, there's not much on there - except a whole world of self publishing. After starting several books and quitting them, I settled into a happy bubble gum world of ya high school romance lit. (Clean and happy endings - it was like beach reading on my couch.) It's not something I'm terribly proud of, haha, can't even remember all the titles (they were fast reads). (And some of them were so bad that I quit.) This one was pretty cute.

Don't think Kindle unlimited is worth paying for.

This is a super cute book that gave me TONS of flashbacks because I worked at a video store the summer after my sophomore year of college and SO much of this is true!! I loved the dynamic between Nicole and Chase—even when her decisions had me banging my head against the proverbial wall. (But hey, that's why we read YA, right?) Neal was perfect in his role, and Amy was exactly what a best friend should be: supportive, forgiving, and there to push you when you really need it.

What a cute and sweet YA romance novel. I loved that it was set in 2003.
This was my first book by this author but I liked the writing style very much so it won't be the last.

ARC kindly provided by The Weapenry Cooperative in exchange for an honest review.

Chasing Love follows Nicole, a “wallflower” who’s determined to submit the best college application in her town. One day when she’s running with her dog, Meatball, she runs into Chase, a popular boy that used to go to high school with her. The next day, he walks into the Blockbuster where she works (yes, this is set in the early 2000’s), and it turns out they’re now coworkers. After Nicole and Chase spend more time together, he convinces her to join the cross country team and broaden her horizons.

I loved that this was set in the 2000's with the occasional reference to the popular culture of that time. The main character works in a Blockbuster, which was something that I dreamed of doing when I was younger, but now they're unfortunately obsolete, so I found this quite an interesting subplot to follow.

The characters in this were nothing different from any other Young Adult contemporary book. Nicole is a smart, “wallflower” that is completely invisible to her classmates and Chase is the popular jock that would never pay attention to her. Nicole is also the typical immature protagonist that immediately calls any girl that looks in the direction of her potential love interest a “skank” for having the audacity to be interested in a single guy. It’s 2018, why are we still promoting this detrimental trope? If anything, girl on girl hate is limiting to the characterisation of Nicole and contradicts the “good girl” vibes that she’s attempting to put out. If you think another girl is a “slut” for wearing a thong and talking to a guy that hasn’t shown any previous interested in you, then maybe you’re the problem in this situation.

I was definitely a fan of the romance. The dynamic between Chase and Nicole was interesting and I liked that everyone saw his feelings for her before she did. It was the perfect blend of clueless and attraction. I wish we got more development, in the end, to see what they're up to now, but this is a contemporary novel after all. Also, I found the love triangle situation a bit cliched. I appreciated the message it gave when it warned other girls about charming guys who give them lines like "you're not like the other girls" but then expect "compensation" for this.

Overall, this was a fast read that I flew through quickly. The romance had me squealing from excitement, while some moments brought me to tears. I'd recommend it if you're starting out with Young Adult contemporary or want something similar to the authors I mentioned at the beginning of this review.

I was gifted this book and this is my honest review.

This is the last book of the Mountain Creek Drive series. It was a solid ending to a fun series. All these books were written by different authors and had different main characters. Some supporting characters were in multiple books and it was nice to hear a little of the characters from the other two stories. I like when a character is in the background of someone else’s life. Everyone is someones supporting character, someone’s antagonist, love interest, or partner in crime. This series worked with that and wove multiple lives together. Everyone is interconnected.

To start I need to say this book made me want to start running. I don’t run but now I feel like I should. Like right now. I was reading and wanted to put this down and go for a jog. Thankfully that feeling has passed.

Slight spoilers ahead.

This book was refreshing. I liked the unpopular girl opening up and making friends while not climbing super high up on the social ladder. She was becoming herself, finding what she wanted to do, not trying to become popular. Nicole was (mostly) well liked and respected, but only in her circle. Not everyone was running through the halls to talk to her.

It was nice that Nichole chased and almost fell for another boy. (You know who she is going to end up with. It’s basically the title.) She was struggling with a choice and just went for it. Life is not perfect and people make mistakes, this made Nicole a more rounded character. I like how she was innocent and inexperienced but it didn’t come off as prudish, it wasn’t a huge part of her personality.

Amy grew into herself in this book. She was so shy and quiet in Stage Kiss. It was because this was the viewpoint of a friend and not strangers like the first book. She found someone she was comfortable with. There were points where I didn’t believe that Nicole was her best friend. I wanted more evidence that they were close. It felt like a friendship of convenience, not affection.

I liked how bad Chase (Mr. Perfect) was at talking to the girl he liked. Every time he complimented her it sounded like an insult. He tried. Chase was good for Nic. He made her do things she wasn’t comfortable with but were good for her nonetheless. He was a good friend as well. I wanted more of him and Amy. They would have been good friends.

The writing was fun and I would definitely try something else by this author.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Chasing Love is a cute story about Nicole, a high school senior trying to balance school, her job at Blockbuster, and the brand-new world of dating. Her awkwardness and unease in certain situations was totally relatable, as was her grit and determination to prove herself both to her peers and to the authority figures in her life (her Blockbuster manager, her cross-country coach, and to a lesser extent her parents). She alternates between wishing she could stand up for herself more, and holding her ground when it really counts.

As a class of 2004 graduate myself, I enjoyed the throwback references author Kayla Tirrell cleverly worked in, without making it overly nostalgic or sentimental.

While there were moments throughout the book that supported Nicole’s characterization (her dismay at having to make small talk with her best friend’s mom made me chuckle, because who doesn’t remember that seemingly excruciating torment from the time before cell phones?), there were also some moments that were a bit too handwavy. Granted, I may be biased from my time working in a high school counseling office, but Nicole claims that her “…SAT and ACT scores were both high enough to get me into almost any college I wanted to go to.” (LOL OKAY), but she “just needed a way to make herself stand out”, hence, following Chase’s suggestion to try out for the track team. Like, girl, one semester of varsity cross-country isn’t going to tip the scales for college admissions, but alright.

That said, I still really enjoyed reading Chasing Love. I appreciated how real all the characters and their motives felt, and my only disappointment was how quickly the ending snuck up on me! I wish we could have gotten a few more scenes between the end of chapter 26 and the epilogue, instead of how it wrapped up with a neat little bow. I will definitely be putting Kayla Tirrell on my “authors to follow” list!

Kayla Tirrell is growing in her voice as a writer. Synopsis- Nicole is about to begin her senior year of high school and realizes she needs to find an extracurricular activity to add to her college applications.

If you enjoy young adult stories that let you peek at realistic characters who are funny and fallible, you should enjoy Chasing Love. The hardest part for me starting out was the activity the protagonist Nicole chose to pursue was cross country. As an adult who only runs for fine chocolate and book sales I was concerned I would have trouble relating to her. However, Tirrell does an admirable job at explaining why someone would be attracted to cross country, the satisfaction of finishing a run, and the relationships among teammates.

Now, for some reason, the first chapter or two did not seem as strongly written or revised as the rest of the novel. once past those the rhythm of the dialogue and narrative picked up and smoothed out.

Nicole is a person who still hasn't grown to trust herself completely. Since the story is set in the early 2000s, it is interesting to read of pop culture references and limited technology that frame the story. Nicole longs for her folks to buy her a cell phone, but it is a fleeting desire since her friends, her flirtatious, and family fill her world. At times I wanted to shout at her about some of her dating decisions, but I know how realistic the feelings of 'liking' a boy are and how fickle teenagers of both genders can be. Tirrell captures both the highs and lows of teen life quite well. I certainly would like to read a book about Victoria and her back story at some point. Pick up one or all of Tirrell's Mountain Creek Drive books. Better yet, add on all of these and the River Valley Lost & Found books for a delightful set of weekend reads, for you won't be disappointed.

I was gifted aand asked to read an ebook version of this series. This is my review of the book and solely my opinion.

I requested for a copy of this book from Kayla without knowing what this book was about and only reading it because I love her books and could not not read any of them. I am not disappointed. First, reading this brought me back to the times I've had going crazy over Lord of The Rings with my friends back when I was still young. Of course it's different for me as I'm from Malaysia but the nostalgia is real! What also felt real to me was Nicole's own uncertainty and the lack of a direction for her own future. I remember all the anxiety I've felt at that age. Of believing that I was falling in love without actually knowing what love really was and of the confusion I have for my future plans. As I read on I felt like sending a letter to my younger self and telling her not to worry too much and just indulge in her passion and have fun. I just wished there was someone like Chase around to nudge me in the right direction when I was feeling a little lost. Some books are amazing but felt like you're just reading someone else's story. This one is amazing and it feels like you could be reading about your own story, that's what it's like for me. This gave me so much food for thought. I'd love to have others read it as well. It is that good!

A giant thank you to Kayla for sending me an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. Also for allowing me to fangirl once again.

I absolutely adore every book in this series but this is my favorite. Kayla has a way of shaping characters that you just fall completely in love with this. This has happened with every book I have read of hers. Chasing Love is no exceptions; I love love Chase and Nicole. Their chemistry jumped of the pages from their very first meet cute.

Also Amy was the best sidekick/BFF I've seen in a long time. I think she needs her own story(HINT, HINT!).

The writing was fun, and really funny. I almost spit out my drink over "Manly exertion." I loved the blockbuster settings and the mall scenes. It took me back to my HS school days, nothing like a little mall Chinese and a sale at American Eagle. This book is an absolute gem, and a great wrap up to a really fun series. Honestly if you guys decided to continue on with this series I wouldn't complain at all... I should also note that you could read any of these a standalone, but why would you want to? If you're in the mood for a cute, fun contemporary this is the book for you!

***I received an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Kayla Tirrell.***

Chasing Love, by Kayla Tirrell, was super cute. High school senior Nicole wants to leave her small town behind and feels she needs to become more well-rounded for her college applications. Recent grad, new co-worker, and fellow runner Chase pushes her in the direction of cross country. Little does she know that he’s also an assistant coach for the team. Nichole has to learn the ins and outs of being part of a team, and figure out who to give her heart to.

This story takes place in the early 2000s. in a time where Blockbuster still existed, and the throwback was lovely and nostalgic. Nicole is quiet and has only one close friend, so moving beyond her comfort zone and trying something different is new for her. It also provided a great opportunity for growth, as did the mistake she makes at work. She kind of needed it as I found her to be immature at times. I really liked Chase. I especially liked that he wasn’t super smooth when it came to talking to Nicole. It made him way easier to relate to. His somewhat mixed signals also left natural room for one of the other runners on the team to take an interest in Nicole. I really liked that it didn’t feel like a love triangle, rather as though Nichole was figuring out what she wanted and needed. And I have to give a shout out to Amy, Nicole’s bff. She supported her friend by going out for cross county, giving it her all and really coming into her own.

The writing was solid. There were a couple of things that kept me from rating the story higher. One, I wish Chase’s decision to fight for Nicole had been better explained, as seemingly nothing had changed. I also wish there’d been a bit more character growth. And lastly, for me, the story was a bit lacking in big swoons and witty dialogue, which kept me from falling in love with the characters.

Over all, it was a fast, enjoyable read that fans of YA or romance will enjoy.

A Moral Dilemma Fuelled Read!!🏃🏃🏃

I enjoyed Nicole & Chase's book!!

Nicole is Amy's (Amy won Homecoming Queen in book 1) best friend. They're both shy, quiet and usually get overlooked at School. Amy's win was a fluke!!!

Nicole is out with her dog running, during summer, when her dog runs off. She catches up to him with a running shoe in his mouth, chewed up😳 A hot guy she realises is Chase, who was a year older than her, walks to her only wearing one running shoe 😀😎

This is the start of Nicole, & her brilliant best friend, coming out of their shells slowly, getting noticed and finding something they love and are both actually good at!!! It opens their horizons & friendship circle too.

Thanks to a naughty dog called Meatball this girl gets to learn a lot and grow!! This is an adorable will they - won't they coming of age romance. Enjoy, I know I did 💖🎉

Yay 90s nostalgia

This was a great third book from the Mountain Creek Drive series! It really reminded me of the teen flicks I used to watch and I loved the pop culture references. I also loved how characters from the previous books made appearances too. I just wished we got more background on some of them (really hoping the authors might consider more stories in this series). But overall, if you're looking for an awesome throwback to the late 90s / early 2000s with fun, romance, and character growth about coming of age, finding yourself while staying true to who you are, this books is for you,!

First love, first romance, first dates, first everything. When high school senior Nicole comes away from the wall and in to a life, she gets more than just she expected. Nicole has been a self professed wallflower her entire high school career, but now, a chance encounter has her making changes. Nicole's journey, while not entirely dramatic, is dramatic enough for this high schooler. The story is not deep, but is well written, easy to read and follow and holds you just enough to question if you really need to put the book down. Perfect book to add to your summer beach read pile.

Chasing Love is a fun Young Adult romance.

Chasse and Nicole bond over a runaway dog and a stolen sneaker. He's also her new co-worker, and her new assistant cross country coach.

With Chase's help, Nicole is no longer a wallflower, but her life gets crazy, with two boys after her.

The story is fun, flirty and has all the charm of a first kiss/boyfriend romance.

What a throwback!

I listened to the audio of this one and had to pause and go back when I heard mention of Blockbuster!

So many of the references in this book were relatable! Especially not having a cell phone.

I really enjoyed Nicole and Amy’s friendship throughout the book. I just wish we had more Chase!

This was a super cute YA romance. As far as YA romances go it was pretty much what you expect but as I say that I still really enjoyed it! Honestly I loved the video rental store aspect and AIM!. TBT to the love of my life Blockbuster (I miss you) and the AIM aspect had be missing Smarterchild aka the robot we all loved to talk to . I wish there was a little more character growth but Ive come to expect not to much development in these light YA romances. Overall it was a super cute book that I will probably re-read later on when in the mood for a cute YA book.

Chasing Love by Kayla Tirrell is the 3rd book in the Mountain Creek Drive young adult series. I really enjoyed this book which takes place in the early 2000's . Nicole Andrews is a senior in high school, who runs into Chase, while chasing her dog. Chase graduated last year and is attending the local college. Chase talks her into trying out for the track team because she runs so fast. Nicole and Chase also end up working together at Blockbuster. Nicole who has never dated, now has two hotties after her. I recommend this book for a fun young adult romance novel, which takes place almost 20 years ago.

Chasing Love is such a cute story of a sweet high school senior growing into her personality with friends, boys, and life in high school. I truly enjoyed getting to see Nicole grow and change through the story and would have loved to have seen even more of her story. I appreciated all the nostalgic references - AIM and Buddy Lists, no texting, land line phones, and of course makes me miss Blockbuster! It was fun to see the little references to the characters from the other books in this series. Overall a fun, light read!

I received a free copy for an honest review. I really loved this book. I could relate emotionally to Nicole which for me is a big deal. The nostalgia hit me like a grenade. Especially the mention of Blockbuster. I laughed, I cringed, I cried, and I screamed (internally). But in the end it all worked out. If you like teen romance, going back to high school (figuratively),a swoon-worthy male lead, and a happy ending then you'll like Chasing Love.

This one had me at blockbuster and AIM. What a fun romantic read set back in the early 2000s. Cute romantic read with a lot of charm and excellent defences to the recent past. Realistic character and relationships. Liked that the story and will recommend this to my students who are looking for an appropriate for high schoolers to read.
