From USA TODAY Bestseller Sabrina Stark comes an exciting new standalone romance: Sure, I swooned over him. But everyone did. He was only Flynn Archer, the swashbuckling, brooding bad boy who starred in the biggest movie production on the planet.
But me? I'd known him before all that, when Flynn had gone by a different name in a different place. We hadn't been friends. But I owed him, bigtime. And now, he'd come to collect.
Not my body. And not my soul. Just a favor. For money. Lots of money.
The only problem was, my body and soul were sliding dangerously close to the line. And if only he weren't so annoyingly similar to the character he played on screen – smoldering, fearless, and just a little bit crazy – I might've stood a chance.
But I didn't. And now, like a total idiot, I was falling for him, hard. And just maybe, he was falling for me, too.
There was only one problem. We hated each other. Really, we did.
***This new adult romance is a fun, full-length standalone contemporary romance novel with a guaranteed happily-ever-after!***
How did I forget how much fun I have when reading Sabrina Stark’s books?? I can’t think of another author who writes such quick and witty dialogue that has me almost liking the “villains.” (Maybe Jana Aston?)
This is a fun and easy read with a lot of laugh out loud scenes. Anna and Flynn are extremely likable characters on their own and even better together. There’s also a nice balance of drama as they overcome their past to get to their HEA. And a lot of waffles. Jack Ward needs a book very soon (maybe Becka?)!
(I immediately realized I now need to reread Unbelonging and Rebelonging.)
I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
Rom-coms are admittedly not what I typically go for, but this one kind of grabbed me and pulled me in. The story was simple and didn't try to be anything it wasn't, which leant a genuine feel to this revenge/ hate-to-love tale that probably wouldn't have been so well executed in the hands of another writer. The characters were realistically drawn and well-developed and very likable. Flynn had his jerky moments, especially at first, but he had a load of victim's anger and with good reason. Even so, he was never unlikable. He was aware he was being a tool and constantly torn by his actions. He was actually a good guy who didn't always deal well with how he'd been wronged. And I'm rarely a fan of heroines, but Anna was great. She was sweet, but resilient and just enough awkward at times to be funny rather than annoying.
The writing was clever and the writer's sense of humour was woven throughout. I laughed out loud a few times, particularly over the whole waffle 'surprise' bit that became a running joke. It even became jewelry. And I've never met a character who wanted to shove things up so many people's asses as Flynn often did, but it was hilarious. I loved that it was kind of a go-to for him, enough that Anna finally had to point out that it was probably illegal to do that to someone.
All in all, very sweet, very cute, light read. A little angst here and there. Some harmless OW stuff. Moderate steam. Fun and very safe. I would happily read Ms. Stark's work again.
It's closer to 3.5 stars but it dragged the whole middle... everything happened twice... Felicity appears at least twice as does McKenzie and photos in the bathroom, twice...the only real odd thing was the appearance of an otherwise unknown character, Jack, who was interesting. Bully waffles were cute...it just dragged over the couple of months but cute concept.
There was a lot of conversations that sounded like my kids: “so?” “So what?” “Why?” “But, why?” “Don’t do that again, okay?” The underlying story was good and I found it hard to put down but I was also skimming the internal diatribes and rolling my eyes at the back and forth.
Enjoyed this book immensely. Lots of banter, hurt, angst, but also sweetness. Had some laughs along the way as well. I wish Gordon would have gotten taken out painfully in prison. That man was awful and the FMC's mom should have been held accountable for something, even if she simply got dropped from the girls lives. No man is worth the safety of your daughters. This is an enemy to lovers, fake relationship romance with no cheating and an HEA. Story told from both MC POV. There were a couple plot holes, but nothing significant. Overall, a great read.
Love this one, i really enjoyed Flanna's story, it may have started out as revenge but it definitely didn't stay that way, it may have taken them a little longer but they were both under an awful lot of stress, but when they got there it was worth waiting for, very well written, a couple of spelling mistakes but nothing that detracted from the story, with reading if you love a contemporary story about love and revenge.
Enjoyed this book a lot. Love a good enemies to lovers trope and Flanna did not disappoint. The quick and witty banter between Flynn and Anna was perfect and their food competitions always made me laugh. Also, that ending... made me tear up. It was PERFECT!!!
This book does what it needs to. It has a few weirdly worded sentences but it doesn't detract from the book. It's a feel good book and they get their happily ever after.
It wasn’t always like this, the hate and loathing festered. No good deed goes unpunished as Flynn found. Anna tried to help to no avail. This is their story.
Wow! Where has Sabrina Stark been all of my book reading life?????
This book is FAB! I immediately started a re-read. I didn't want it to end.... but the ending was terrific.
Here's what did it for me: characters, writing style and storyline
The characters: Flynn (John) and Anna. They have history, a wide range of emotions (hate, fascination, charisma, infatuation, and passion). Their characters are well developed. Each wrestles with demons of their own making and those of others'. Supporting characters are believable and move the story along.
Ms. Stark's writing style is solid. I really like the chapters from different points of view, alternating between Flynn and Anna. We see Flynn start out as cold hearted, then question himself, and finally realize that he has to give up something if he wants to get Anna.
The storyline goes beyond "don't hate me because I'm beautiful." Flynn is out for revenge and Anna is carrying the weigh of the world on her shoulders while fighting to give her sister a chance.
I'm now following Ms. Stark and am anxiously awaiting her next book! Download this book. You'll be happy you did.
Always on the line of strong emotions I loved this story which is extremely well written, both tender and more violent, while remaining simple. Everything is in the finesse of the description of the feelings of the two heroes who can be hateful or in love. Some parts, especially the dares related to waffles can be humorous, others more poignant. I loved these two characters. Due to manipulation 10 years ago, Flynn was in prison a few months while he was in high school. He thinks it's because of Anna, but in fact it's her father-in-law who had everything planned thinking that she was hanging out with Flynn. From this mistake came a hatred against Anna. Since then, he has become a movie star and to take revenge on her, he hires her as his fake girlfriend without giving her his reasons. In the meantime, her father-in-law has fallen for fraud and Anna has no more money and is a waitress. To help her family, she accepts the offer of Flynn that hates her and will do everything to make her feel his hatred. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Less than five percent into the book and I got the feels!! I was instantly hooked from the beginning and definitely laughing with the antics going on!
Flynn and Anna have a history. But not all is as it seems. When Flynn needs a (disposable) fake girlfriend, he immediately thinks of Anna. She’s perfect for what he needs and he’ll also get his revenge. Anna’s always regretted what happened to Flynn. She’s far from the rich girl she was in high school. So when Flynn shows up in town again, she knows he’s back for revenge. She wasn’t expecting his offer and was in no position to turn it down. What happens when they each don’t really know the whole story, pretend to date, and challenge each other with crazy waffles? You get this gem of a book that will give you all the feels and plenty of laughter! I initially disliked Flynn, but man did he win me over. Hard!! Anna was such a sweetheart. You can’t help but love her. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This is such a lovely loathing to loving romance that just made me sigh out loud more than once. Sabrina Stark has such skill in making misunderstandings and old wounds into the foundation of new love and respect amongst adversaries. Flynn Archer is a Hollywood star who returns to the town he'd been run out of as a teen to exact revenge on the girl he believes did him wrong. Anna was once the rich girl in school who has since been brought low by crippling debt and responsibilities. Flynn sets out to humiliate Anna as he was once humiliated. Anna of course is nothing like Flynn imagined and he finds himself reassessing what he thinks he knows about her.
Oh, the slow burn of both these characters falling in love is glorious to read. I relished every single twist, turn and truth as it was revealed. Every Sabrina Stark romance is a treat, but she has really outdone herself with this current novel. A perfect, feel good romance.
Flipping His Script is about an actor, Flynn and a diner waitress, Anna. Flynn loathes Anna, planning to make her pay, from their past history. His plan is to get her to be his fake girlfriend. Anna, doesn’t know why he needs a fake girlfriend, but her financial life, has her agreeing. For the months, that they are pretending to be in a relationship, truths are coming out, things are not what they seem, and people are not who people think they are.
The plot of the story was a very interesting one. The beginning of the story caught my attention right way, but the middle dragged a little, this is why it’s getting four stars. The characters were great, and they had some funny scenes. The book had hardly any sexy times, which coincides with the story, it wouldn’t have made sense, but I do know some of you like it steamy. All in all I would recommend this book because the ending is well worth it. I would also be delighted to read another book of Sabrina Stark .
I received an ARC for an honest review. Anna and Flynn knew each other in high school but one kind act causes Anna's controlling step-father to use his influence over the town to get Flynn thrown in juvie for 10 months. 10 years later, Flynn is a famous movie star and Anna is working as a waitress after her family lost everything. Flynn hates Anna and returns home with a proposal for her to be his fake girlfriend for 4 months. I liked the premise of the book and was initially hooked by the beginning but the more I read, the harder it was to get through. Anna was such a pushover and allowed Flynn to dictate way too much in her life, along with pretty much everyone else in her life. They were also both so childish in their interactions with each other, and the revenge waffles were just ridiculous. I had high hopes for this book when I started it but was quickly disappointed.
I was given this book for free from Hidden Gems in exchange for my honest review. I loved this book! The first two chapters were vague about what was going on, that I was a little confused, but after the third I figured it out and had a ball reading this book. I laughed so hard, I woke my husband up at three in the morning. I could not put this book down. This story is the perfect balance of hate, love, misunderstandings, misconceptions, angsty fights, and hysterical situations. I loved both Anna and Flynn. They were both strong-minded people that didn't let much get them down. But they were also very down to earth. I would love to know them in real life. I would love this as a romantic comedy movie. If you need a funny and sweet palate cleanser, this is the perfect book for that. Hands down, 5 stars or more, in my opinion!
Flipping His Script was a fun read. I usually don't like hate to love romances, but stark did it well, giving him a good reason to hate her and her a good reason to stick around. Anna was flat adorable, in the end, you just couldn't see her ever doing anything malicious. The writing was fun, Stark does the romantic comedy well. The whole waffle bit was hysterical. Flynn was definitely brooding and hot. But I did want to punch him on occassion.
I wish shed left out all of chapter 1, we reread that anyway. It seems like Anna could've tried to explain herself harder. I know I would've. I thought Stark might've done more with the Gordon angle, but I can see that she wanted to keep it a Light read. A fun book, just what you expect from the author of Unbelonging.
Sabrina you have done it again! This was so much fun and what a heck of a story! The world building was exquisite. The plot was incredible and written so well that it grabbed you and would not let go. The drama was written so eloquently that it was easy to read but left you feeling like it will only get better. It does! This was a really good story and I would recommend this story to everyone who wants to read a spectacular story that has it all! Anna and Flynn were written perfectly although in the beginning the back and forth from present to past was a little jagged for me but it was a really good book. You Miss Sabrina can write! I received an ARC for an honest and voluntary review.
I didn't really appreciate the way this book started and then flashed back like 10 years and then flashed forward to 3 months before the opening scene. It read like the author saw that bit of advice about starting a book in the action and took it too seriously.
However, other than that I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the writing. The characters felt real and their reactions and emotions rang true. I enjoyed the setting though I wish we saw more of it. I do wish the side characters were fleshed out a little bit more but honestly in a romance novel I'm not too bothered by 2D side characters so long as the main ones are written well.
The relationship between Flynn and Anna is not one that is kind of filled with loved because in high school Anna does something that gets Flynn locked up but she does it to protect him from a far worse sentence, he just doesn’t know that so he spends years hating her. Flynn asks Anna to be his fake girlfriend because of the hate he has for her there won’t be a chance for them to fall in love, yet that’s exactly what happens. I loved their push and pull, I felt bad for Anna, and wanted to smack Felicity a few times, also smack Flynn occasionally until he comes around. Great angsts read
strangers who know each other briefly reunited. It was a good story. Flynn was very direct and rude, it is funny in a book I had to laugh, but in real life I would not want that kind of man. But stop there, I have this kind of man at home, at least sometimes. 🤔 but it was all pretty good explained why he choose her and not someone else. Sometimes the banter between the two was a little much, but All in all I liked the story and the characters, def. a good read. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance free Reader Copy of this book
Everytime I start a new novel from this author I always wonder will I love it as much as her previous novel. No worries I loved this novel just as much or maybe more! I love when I start a novel and it grabs me and does not let me go until the last page. This novel did just that for me! I loved Avery and Flynn. Oh my gosh the chemistry was so good! The dialogue and the banter were laugh out loud funny. This novel made me laugh out loud in public and when I finished reading it left me with a smile on my face and a happy heart. I LOVED IT!
Poignant and deep, the author goes from sweet to dark emotions. It was hard liking the H at the beginning but as the book developed and I realized the background story I could understand him more. The h was never a bad person but life has been hard for her and she never knew what her step-dad had done. Mistaken guilt gives two people that barely knew each other in the past a chance to dig up what makes them tick and find love. I'm voluntarily reviewing this after receiving a free copy from Hidden Arcs.
