On her 21st birthday, Ophelia was due to marry her guardian. Only she didn’t know it.
Miss Ophelia Crowe has led an extremely sheltered life. After her parents died when she was five, she went to live at her guardian’s country estate. She went on to live a life where everything was managed for her. From what she could wear to what activities she could do, each and every day had been carefully structured by the servants.
The problem was, she didn’t know who her guardian was...
Until the morning of her 21st birthday when the maids present her to him looking more like a doll than a lady who would like to have a say in her future.
And a doll is exactly the way he treats her. She comes to realize just how much he’s structured her life so that she’s been trained to be the kind of wife he wants. Well, she’s decided she won’t marry him. In a bold move, she runs off on a horse in the night in order to escape the fate everyone has set out for her ever since she was a child.
All Vicar Julian Roskin wants is to lead a quiet life. He’s caused enough trouble in the past. He doesn’t need any more problems. But, late one night, his safe and predictable world is turned upside down when a beautiful young lady ends up on his doorstep in need of protection. Protection, in this case, will require him to marry her.
Reason tells him not to do it. Nothing good can come from marriage to a lady he doesn’t know anything about. But something about her demands he take her up on her offer. Dare he take the risk, or should he do everything he can to send her back?
This is loosely inspired by the Little Red Riding Hood story.
What's to say? I write a lot. I read often. I sleep little. Once in awhile, I've been known to clean the house. A number of kids live in my house and there's this guy they call dad and I call husband. All in all, it's a pretty good life. :-)
Ok so I needed my go-to author to comfort me after a few disappointing reads.
Although, this was not one of her best, it was the medicine I needed and I really liked it.
There were some things I found annoying like the childish h and her complete lack of common sense. I found the villains too villainy. And there is something about the stream of consciousness writing that is too.....formulated? Sometimes it works great, but other times, it is awkward. I think to myself, why are the characters stating every move they make before they make it? Can't the author just have them make the action without it being verbalized? Show them doing things more?
I hate the secrets thing....and there is some in here. If only they just told the other about xyz....frustrating but I've seen much worse by other authors.
Well, who am I? I'm not a writer.
Her stories are usually safe for me, and very comforting. Even if there are parts that make me roll my eyes, she always redeems it. (If that makes sense).
4 stars. Today I just needed something really mind numbingly simple and sweet. This delivered what I wanted, and therefore it gets a high rating. Was this book good in comparison to other four star books? That’s a negative. But sometimes, that just doesn’t matter.
Safe; both virgins

This was alright, but definitely not my fav. I probably would have enjoyed it more if it were longer and the relationship developed slower. It just rubbed me a bit wrong because Ophelia is so innocent and doesn't understand so much that she didn't really have an opportunity to become her own person before becoming simply being Julian's wife.
This book is like an AU fanfic that I used to read in fanfiction.net….
The author had a good outline but the execution is poorly done. Too many plot lines she could have focused in just one. The story about the hero’s family is not needed, IMO, it did not add anything.
Too many plots for a short novel.

I enjoyed reading the book she write really good, and I like the spin on the romance with the love. I know how it feels to have a love match it brings out the best in a person
This is a review for books 2-5. I was looking for some good fairy tale retelling. They do have some fairy tale elements but not a lot. The stories were pretty good but wasn’t in love with everything.
Ophelia is 21 year old today, and the maids are dressing her in a beautiful gown and fussing over her. She is told she is to meet her guardian today. She meets Lord Wolfe who informs her they will be married the next day. She is frightened of him and does not want to marry him. She decides to run away. She climbs down her ivy trellis, takes her horse and race away. She falls off her horse and is found by Vicar Julian. Ruth Ann Nordin weaves her story so compellingly that keeps your attention to see what will happen next. Read this book to see how it unfolds. Happy reading! 😊
4.5 stars. Ophelia has been sheltered her entire life from everything, and yet, she isn't afraid of the outside world. I liked her desire to learn and experience life. Julian has lived a life that is self-serving until he hits the bottom. Now a Vicar his life is about service to others. He knows that God has forgiven him but there are still consequences and guilt. There are mystery and intrigue in the story, as well as very light spicy moments and plenty of sweet ones. I really enjoyed seeing characters from the past books make an appearance.
Julian- 3rd son, disowned by brothers and now a vicar Ophelia- been hidden away since she was 5 after the deaths of her parents. I enjoyed reading this captivating dramatic story that is fantastically entertaining with charismatic characters. Their story has a wonderfully sweet HEA.
Fascinating read. Ophelia finds refuge from the big bad Lord Wolfe at the home of the local vicar. She escapes Lord Wolfe while wearing a red cape. Interesting. Mystery and death is in the story but it's not graphic. Some spicy love scenes but for the most part is a sweet romance with a beautiful happily ever after.
