Finding Home #3

Close to Home

Rate this book
Jasper Scott is a single workaholic. He split with his girlfriend two years ago and hasn’t felt drawn to anyone else since… except the sexy Navy SEAL he met at his brother’s house two years ago. But that man lives halfway across the country and after so long, Jasper’s convinced his mind has embellished Greg’s sexy gray eyes, rippling muscles, and gorgeous salt and pepper hair.

After his husband died, Greg Joseph devoted his life to raising their two kids and his work as a Navy SEAL. Now, his kids are grown and in college, he’s retired, and he’s facing a house that’s too big and too empty for one person. After dropping his son off at college, Greg accepts an invitation for drinks with a friend and runs into the man he hasn’t been able to get out of his head—Jasper Scott.

Harrison West’s life is falling apart at the seams. After walking in on his partner of ten years in bed with another man, he flees Tennessee and heads home to Oklahoma to figure out what to do next. When he’s dragged out of his house for a night at a bar, the last thing he expects to find is his long-time crush, Jasper Scott, kissing another man. He’s also not prepared for how being around Jasper again awakens feelings Harrison thought he had put behind him a decade ago.

For Jasper, deciding to take a chance on a relationship with Greg was confusing enough, but what happens when Jasper and Greg both realize they have feelings for Harrison? Is Jasper ready to accept both men into his life and his bed? Are Jasper and Greg the two men who could mend Harrison’s broken heart?

Close to Home is an 88k word novel and has many appearances from the Scott family who are known to overshare-- a LOT. age play/ABDL, Daddy/boy, and other adult themes are mentioned within.

Bolton Hill is a new to me narrator. Though there weren’t drastic differences between character voices, I had no real trouble keeping up with who was talking. By the end, I was actually enjoying the narration. Don’t get me wrong. He’s no Greg, Michael, or JF, BUT I won’t skip an audiobook just because he narrates it (I’m looking at you MP/MD 😒).

Reread 1/5/2021- it’s growing on me. I’ve actually listened to this several times in the past few weeks. I dunno. It’s doing something for me. 🤷🏽‍♀️

reread 2/11/2022 bumping up to five for the numerous, uncounted times I’ve listened to this. I adore Jasper.

All reviews are voluntary and my honest opinion.

This is Jasper's story. He's the oldest, but because he's repressed his emotions for so long he actually comes across as the baby in the family. In the first book Jasper's naivete often leaves him looking homophobic, but it's really a certain amount of innocence, combined with a sheltered upbringing, and a fear of disapproval from their father, that keeps Jasper's personality from fully presenting.

Jasper shared one kiss with his childhood friend Harrison, who then assumed that Jasper was straight and moved on.

You begin to feel for Jasper, who's been alienated and left out by his brothers, who's almost become the butt of their jokes due to his outsider status regarding his sexuality. Jasper doesn't feel comfortable talking with them, and it's almost gotten to the point that his fear of being mocked has kept him from seeking help from anyone. His brothers often come home to visit other people, leaving Jasper to feel like an afterthought. He's gotten to the point that he craves their attention, but resent it when he gets it because they're generally not there for him, they've come at the request of family members or friends.

With Greg, the hot guy Jasper found himself attracted to at Declan's party, back in town, and long-time crush Harrison jilted by his cheating husband, things ignite, and Jasper finds himself in a complicated relationship with not just one hot man, but two. Jasper wants to come out, but he's tired of being the butt of his brothers jokes.

I think this is Carly Marie's best novel yet. She has a knack for writing men that you can sympathize with, men who come across as emotionally vulnerable, but not emasculated. I've gotten to the point where Carly Marie is a favorite author of mine, I'm willing to give any of her new novels a read. But this is my current favorite. 5 out of 5. I eagerly anticipate the conclusion.

The writing was a bit repetitive but I did like the characters. Their story continues in the next book. It’s on KU so I’ll probably check it out.

OH - MY - FUCKING - GOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!

This book was everything! Every-thing!!!! I love all books from Carly, but this! OMG THIS! Ahhhh i have no words! Kidding- i have one: it was short! LOL I want more! MORE!!!

I loved it so much! I started reading it without the knowledge of the blurb. Typical me, not reading the blurb, but it's so much more exciting!
And you should've see my face when I found out this book is a THREESOME! A! THREE! SOME! Aww kill me now, menage is my weakness - lol I have many, but threesome is in the top 3 - LOL!

And now about the book :)

Jasper, Harrison and Greg! HOTNESS LEVEL 10000000
I loved Jasper and Greg's relationship, it was so good and well written. I love reading about the falling in love process, and it was more exciting because of Harrison. He was such a cutie!
And Jasper and Harrison's friendship, aww, both men were so in love with the other, but so blind to really see it. And I loved Greg for it, how everything had turned out.
It was so perfect. But short as I said earlier :D
JK I know it wasn't short, but it IS always short when it's amazing!

I really can't wait for the next book, i want- no, i NEED more Jasper Harrison and Greg!

HIGHLY recommend it!

okay, so it seems I just keep having issues with the queer rep in this series. First she essentially erased the demisexual rep from book two, and now she has made a quintessential bisexual man who is actually gay. Like I just think she did bisexual men wrong in this one. No one is saying that bi men have to be attracted to men and women equally, but they probably should not think so terribly of women and want sex with them to be more than "tolerable". It just felt very uncomfortable for me.

Anyway, for the actual book, I haven't read the next one yet, but I'm almost positive it could've been mashed with this one. there just isn't enough stuff in this one even though its almost 300 pages. Would the resulting duo book be pretty long? yes, but it would be much better imo. Will update when I finish the next one.

Close to Home is the third book in the Finding Home series and focuses on Jasper, the eldest Scott brother. Jasper has always been the steady brother, the brother whose life everyone in the family already has figured out, the brother who’s always pushed aside. But that’s not who Jasper is. Not now. Not that he’s met Greg and ready to explore a hidden side of himself.

I really enjoyed this book. Jasper never really had a voice in other two books, and now we know why. His brothers don’t understand him, in fact, Jasper doesn’t really understand himself. He’s had a crush on Harrison, his old childhood friend for forever, but nothing ever came of it. Now that Harrison is single and Greg is in their lives, can these three men start to move forward.

Greg is a retired Navy sailor figuring out his next steps in life now that his kids are in college and he’s out of the Navy. What he didn’t see coming was finding the new chapter in his life in Oklahoma with two amazing men. Harrison has found immense success as a country music star, but his personal life is falling apart when he finds his long term boyfriend cheating on him in their bed. Fleeing Tennessee he goes back home to Oklahoma and soon finds himself spending time with his old childhood crush, Jasper, and Jasper’s new man, Greg. The attraction between these three men are undeniable, and their chemistry leads to some of the hottest sex scenes, but also some of the sweetest cuddle moments ever.

This book felt more like part one in the Jasper/Greg/Harrison saga. It ended on a sweet, happy note, but you know there’s more waiting around the corner in the Already Home, the last book in the series. I can’t wait to see how Jasper, Harrison, and Greg’s relationship continues to develop and grow.

Audiobook Review

I know that Jasper is not meant to be the main mc, but he is to me. So much so that I skipped book two as it upset me so much the way his family and their partners treated him.

I do suggest you read the entire series, to understand what I am talking about.

Anyways, in here we have Jasper, the abused brother of Derek, the star of the series and Ty, the younger brother from book two who also abuses him for fun. We also have Greg, who is a friend of Ty's and finally, Harrison, a member of Derek's band and best friend from childhood.

Confused yet?

Don't worry, it sounds more complicated than it is.

Jasper and Greg had an instaconnection two years earlier when they met at Ty's house in California. Greg ends up in Oklahoma and they meet again. The connection is too much to resist and they get together. During this whole time, Harrison has been Jasper's support but has crushed on Jasper since he was a teen.

These three actually feel a connection and talk about it. Wild right? They decide to take a chance and start a throuple relationship. And then the book ends.

Don't worry though, this is basically book 1 of a duet as this story is too big to be put in one book.

Bolton's voice has grown on me though I wish there were more differences between the three mcs voices.

Tis so good

Finally Jasper can be happy. Not gonna lie, I hated the way his brothers treated him in the previous books. I'm glad he gets two men to make him feel good.

2.75ish. This book was, surprisingly, an exercise in endurance for me. I really wanted to love it because I loved Book 1, but Jasper read like an angsty 15yr old, who was unbelievably naïve for a grown man. He was just exhausting. Greg was delicious and Harrison was cool.

The problem for me was that the threesome was neither believable nor sexy. A successful threesome must feel organic. There was literally nothing about this threesome that felt like they HAD to be together. Actually Jasper and Greg fit so well, and felt so complete, that I wasn't sure where Harrison would fit in, and why. Because of that, Harrison's introduction felt clunky, and everything that followed defied belief. The sex was not sexy. The book already had a really repetitive feel to it, with Jasper 'screaming' for every daggone thing. Now you had three people whose body parts needed to be accounted for. I kept reading because I had already invested time and because I reallllly liked Greg but meh. I will not be reading Part 2 to see them come out to the family and have Derek be all extra, and Jasper be all emo.

Having said all that, you can tell a lot of work went into writing this. I just wish I liked it more.

Jasper has kept his bisexuality a secret from both of his gay brothers and the rest of the family. He falls for Greg who has been single since his partner died. They find they both have feelings for Jasper’s old friend, Harrison. This is the third book in the Finding Home series which showcases more unusual relationships, this one focussing on ménage à trois. I’m always fascinated by thruple romances, watching how a couple negotiates the inclusion of a third person without upsetting the balance and this didn’t disappoint. The three main characters were very likeable and incredibly supportive of each other, which was heart-warming. There are a lot of recurring characters in this series and it was the first book I read so it took a little while to sort out who was who - I’d recommend starting with the second book (I’ve avoided the first book as it is not to my taste). 🎧 Once I’d sorted out the characters, Bolton Hill’s voice really grew on me, he has a lovely resonant timbre and good expression.

I love this series and this book (and the next) is my favorite - Greg, Harrison and Jasper are just everything. They are so perfect together, and I love reading about them. This time listening to them... :)

Jasper and Greg's relationship is so good, I love that they got together first then Harrison got in the picture a bit later. I loved Jasper and Harrison's frienship too, both were crushin on the other so hard but they needed Greg to see those emotions. Their threesome is so good.

I loved listening to the story, the voices were good. I think I needed a little time from listening to this narrator, because the last time I listened to his audio I wasn't this happy - there is such a thing that too many times using the same voice, and I needed time to be able to appriacate it again.

I need the next book right now. I miss them.

Out of all the books, this one by far is my favorite. I think it's partially because while I enjoyed Derek/Colt and Ty/Declan's stories, those books focused way too much on their 'kinks'. Jasper's book is just him discovering himself.

I loved Jasper and Greg together. I'm a little undecided on how I feel adding Harrison to the mix, but I like Harrison. My heart broke for Harrison with what he went through with Neil. No one should have to go through that. My heart also broke when Jasper had his moment and yelled at Derek and Ty. Neither of them came to Oklahoma because of Jasper.

I knew that Greg and Jasper would have chemistry. They had it in Ty and Declan's book. I'm really curious to see where this will all go. Looking forward to the next book.

Well written ménage between a rocker, a rancher, and a former SEAL. Jasper meets Greg and they begin a relationship. Slowly, Harrison and Jasper’s long-time friendship sparks an undeniable fire between the three men and by the end of this book all three admit their feelings for one another.

I loved the Scott brothers before, but Jasper’s (and Greg’s and Harrison’s) story if my new favorite! Jasper is so conflicted about his life, and how to handle his sexuality, and how to handle his attractions to two men, that it’s a joy to see him find so much more than he ever dreamed of, and be so happy! This book can stand alone with an HEA, but I’m looking forward to more!

Good

Still having some issues with these but still loving the stories too. I love Jasper's character development over these books and was really happy that he manages to make it work with Harrison and Greg. The ending was a bit abrupt but, thankfully for me, I can slide right into the next book ☺️

Jasper and Greg meet in the previous story and this picks up when Greg visits Oklahoma to escort his son to college. Jasper, always the straight guy in the Scott family, except for a crush on his childhood friend Harrison, is sexually attracted to Greg and vice-versa. I like the way the author slowly brought their attraction to the forefront and created a character, Greg, who was mature and strong in his experience and worldliness, to counterbalance Jasper's hesitation and fear about coming out, telling his oversharing brothers Ty and Derek, (previous books), most importantly telling his father who is also his boss.

I also liked how she introduced Harrison into the scenario without a quick "hi, how are you, let's go to bed" sort of scenario. But there was something about Jasper that just didn't click with me. Harrison? yes. Greg? sexy silver fox, oh, yes, sir. But Jasper? Not so much. I think it was the constant worry over his brother finding out and it was his inexperience and hesitation to initiate anything at all. After a while one would think he'd start to get with the program, so to speak. After all, he manages a huge horse farm operation and is already 35 years old. IDK.

So the story was heartwarming, and the sex scenes hot. In fact, the poly scenes when the three got together were so steamy my glasses fogged up. I'm torn between giving this 3 stars and 4. I'm going to read the next book in the series right away as that picks up where this leaves off and we'll see some resolution with Harrison's ex and with the big coming out for Jasper and for the throuple as a whole. Here's hoping my love for Jasper and his men grows and the next one is a 4 or 5 star story.

Single workaholic Jasper Scott split from his girlfriend two years ago and hasn't felt drawn to anyone else since apart from a sexy Navy SEAL he met at his brother's house two years ago. After his husband died Greg Joseph devoted his life to raising their two young children and his job as a Navy SEAL. Now he has retired and the youngest is now going to college. After dropping him off he accepted a drink with a friend and ran into Jasper Scott who he couldn't get out of his head. Harrison West had walked in on his partner of ten years in bed with another man and so fled home to Oklahoma to figure out what to do next. At a bar, the last thing he expects to find is his long-time crush Jasper Scott kissing another man and he is not prepared for the feelings that have awakened. For Jasper taking a chance on a relationship with Greg is confusing, but when they both realise they have feelings for Harrison they have to decide if they want to pursue it further, Can they mend Harrison's broken heart?

I enjoyed this story with three men who started from different angles - two with broken hearts (one from death and the other from infidelity) and Jasper who had never been with a man before. There was a lot of analysis of the men's feelings and emotions, which became a little confusing as there were three of them. Easy to read and mostly understand. This is an MMM story with mature content.

Good, but...

Teased knowing the menage is coming but it takes forever to get there. Retired Navy seal, Greg, lusting after Rancher, Jasper, for the last 2 years. Country music band Player, Harrison, has just broken up with his boyfriend of 10 years. Jasper and Harrison have both been quietly crushing on the other for the last 10 years. When all three men finally find themselves in the same place, Sparks Fly, and hearts soar.

Another good book in the series but I was disappointed that it took forever to get to the good stuff oh, and get the guys together. It was a lot of repetitive thoughts between all three men and having and getting what they want, or desire. The other sticking point for me, is the continuous use of the word screaming. Girls scream, men shout, holler, boom. They do not scream.

KU, contemporary, book in series, cowboy, military men, Menage, musician, coming out, first time.

I recently finished Close to Home, and it quietly wrecked me in the best way. There’s so much care woven into this story—care between the characters, and care in the way it’s told.

What I loved most was how the romance is built not just on attraction, but on emotional intimacy, shared safety, and trust that’s earned with every scene. It doesn’t follow a traditional arc, and that’s what made it feel so grounded and real. The polyamorous aspect never feels like a twist—it’s just the truth of these three hearts learning how to move together.

This story reminded me that love doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful. Sometimes, the strongest relationships are the ones that grow quietly, with full permission to feel everything.

Jasper and Harrison finally get their story. As always with this series, there is a kink involved here...and it involves Greg Joseph, one of the Navy SEALs introduced in Book 2 of this series. Jasper finally becomes comfortable with himself, but several unresolved issues remain setting the stage for a sequel and the final book in this series. The three guys were sweet together, but some of the other characters, like Ty, Jasper's rock star brother, was a bit harsh for no apparent reason. I would have liked to see him at least be a bit more supportive of his brother. At any rate...I enjoyed it, and it was a good addition to the "Finding Home" series. Maybe in the next book, the last one, the brothers, Ty, Declan and Jaspers's father can become a little more human and forgiving.

"Close to Home" and "Already Home"
Books 3 and 4 in the Finding Home series are closely linked and I read them together so I will review together.
This author is new to me and I randomly chose this book looking for an MMM book.
I absolutely loved these 2 books. They are well written. The characters are well developed, with very different characteristics and challenges. The romance and love story is beautiful, the chemistry is palpable and the sex scenes were super hot. I actually shed tears too!
Now I am backtracking and reading the first books of the series j had skipped.
I will definitely be reading more from this author.

Loved how this built!

First it was Jasper struggling with his sexuality and attraction to Greg then this couple fell in love! Harrison joined them. Harrison and Jasper were one another’s first loves from the past! These three men grew in friendship and attraction as well as love. All sexual encounters amongst them are hot, passionate and sensual. I enjoyed how this story was built in layers of acceptance, attraction and love. When I worried about the how of it, the love felt amongst the main characters made a way. This was a good read that kept me glued to my phone! I cannot wait to read
the next installment of the series!

I didn't like Ty in the previous book, and I like him even less now. He's actually mean. He brought his brother (who he believed was straight) to a gay-club because he wanted to see his reaction for fun (and Dec was the one talking to Jasper in the car, when he was panicking), and then laughed in his face over his naiveté when it comes to gay-culture.

Lack of research (or common sense) annoys me:
- It's called a GRADE horse, not a mutt horse, if it's not a thoroughbred.
- Why wouldn't a horse breeder castrate/geld a horse, not part of the breeding program?
- Why would they put a mare (even though she's struggled conceiving) and a STALLION in the same pasture?
